Great video, I learned most of these ideas thru lots of mistakes,$$ errors and constructing 5 bathrooms. This is a lot of time saving info for anyone starting out, great job! Thx complement

Love the pace!. I usually can't finish watching tutorials as I'm either way ahead or falling asleep or my attention is focused on some other issue. This video is great. I subscribed and liked. Thanks.
This is a very informative video. It's annoying when other RUclipsrs make videos on how to do things that they themselves are doing for the first time in the video. Crazy. But this video is ob from a pro!
This is an eye opener video ! We are planning to get our existing bathroom refreshed and you have given us all the tradies phrases and technical words which we could use / understand when they give us a quote ! Thanks so much for this information. By the way do you offer your renovation services to homeowners??? I would love to have your service for our bathrooms renovation!!
I think the floor prep was great, but really, unless you are remodeling the bathroom in the House of Windsor, it is just too much. No one needs a bathroom floor that could double as the outer hull of a submarine. And let me tell you, most everyone says I go WAY too far in my own moisture barrier provisions. But please don’t take me wrong. This video shows the best work I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. As a reference, I was a safety worker for Swinerton. And cutting the grout lines with a circular saw? I have removed a lot of tile and replaced it, but the pry bar and hammer is the most practical method.
Awesome video! I'm in my second year as a home improvement contractor but I don't have a lot of experience doing bathrooms. I'm subscribed and look forward to watching more
One thing i learned the hardway from being taught the complete wrong way is to put positive slope underneath your shower pans!! You gotta slope underneath whatever material you use for your pan! Its a critical error a lot of people make! Excess water will travel thru your grout and mudbed etc. finally hitting your pan and settling in the lowest point! It will stay there because it has no where else to go! Soon it starts making mold and turns acidic thereby eating through to your substrate and walls! If you dont slope your pan toward the weep holes on your drain the excess water is sure to cause major problems later on! I have torn out 50 yr old showers that would have lasted another 50 and others that were 10 yrs old that have rotted the subfloor, studs ,and floor joists! Water is a killer in wet areas! Thats why most insurance doesnt cover damage that occurs there!
Some how to videos sped up like this can be too fast to comprehend and certain steps in the process are not well explained, but this video may be quick but not just visually can we see clearly what to do in each step but the instructor speaks clearly on what to do in each successive step and the sound volume is excellent, good job on this short video!!.... for anybody who worries they can't absorb or remember all the steps, just check your RUclips archives or library to view your history of videos you've visited in the past.
Durrock or wonderboard is fine for floors ! Its not just for walls ! Hardibacker works for either but i hate putting fasteners through that crap , its easier to pilot hole it but the time spent blows that up! I stay away from hardibacker altogether personally! Whatever you use , thinset it down on wood sub floors with a polymer modified product!
Some really good tips in this video! I will be 100% getting myself a laser level, it looks like such a handy tool for bathrooms :D You guys are on point with editing, I also found it really handy to read through the comment section to see replies to other people's questions. Nice touch! Subbed and turned on notifications!!
When installing the vanity top install the facets and hot and cold lines first. Makes it so much easier then trying to get underneath to tighten the nuts that hold it in place.
thanks for the great video, its the best channel on YT!. For the second tip you have in this video, can you use ditra+tile on top of the plywood that is beneath Vinyl? i.e. remove Vinyl using the heat gun and not pull the whole plywood out?
thank you Danish, you could pull the vinyl and keep the plywood of it meets the Schluter standards for your tile, eg if the plywood is 3/4” thick and over 16” oc framing
Wonderful video! Gotta watch the rest of them before I buy a home :) Few questions for ya: does dampening the subfloor make it easier for the thin-set to adhere? Are there any mold concerns with that or does it dry out when the thin-set does? Lastly, do most thin-sets have directions to dampen the subfloor, or is this one of the tricks of the trade?
Its one of the tricks! Without it, the dryness of the subfloor will suck the moisture out of the thinset before it has a chance to set! Always a good idea before bonding any type cement product! Always wet your substrate! And mold is not a concern. Just dampen not flood!
Amazing tips guys! I was looking for information on how to properly make the connection between drywall ceiling and kerdi board on the shower area and between an inside corner where drywall will meet a cement board (tile wall) outside shower area. Any feedback would be amazing! Love this channel!!
normally we don’t treat or waterproof the ceiling to KERDI-BOARD connection but you could flash it with KERDI-BAND if the ceiling is lower than 8 ft. At the drywall to cement board transition outside the shower you could use alkali resistant mesh and thin-set if it’s close to the tile, eg 3” or less. Then you could skim it with joint compound 👍🏼
You guys are the best! Thank you so much! We wish we knew professionals like you here in the rural NB. We built most of our house ourselves, and I am the one responsible for tiling. There are so many details and you guys are a huge help. Your channel is AMAZING!
