      Hi. Just as a clarification, WEDI and other Products like it are not waterproof on the surface. The closed cell foam structure is what gives the panel it's waterproofing. So when applying the sealant it is important to seal to the foam core and not just on the surface.

  • @genecarden780
    @genecarden780 Год назад +91

    I have been in the caulking and waterproofing trade for over 40 years and when I saw the flange stopped short of the edge of the tub I just knew you were going to make the mistake that 90% of people make and leave a huge hole at the outside edge of the the tub, because they stop the waterproofing at the edge of the tub. Well done. Every “professional” tub installer needs to watch this video.( I normally get called in after the fact to try to repair the botched installation and I can’t tell you how many times I have found the tile at the narrow strip at the front of the tub without waterproofing or sometimes just drywall at that strip) I also applaud your numerous references to technical manuals. There are so many “experts” on RUclips that have never read the tech manual for the product they are using. Or they are just so ignorant that they think they know more than the manufacturer. Especially when it comes to sealants and waterproofing. The morons that advocate using soapy water or even window cleaner to tool sealants make my blood boil. Sorry for the rant. Keep educating people on the CORRECT techniques and details.👍

    • @ashleywilkes7632
      @ashleywilkes7632 Год назад +1

      So… say a person did that - stopped the wedi at the flange and tiled so there’s a gap. What would a person do there? Are they screwed?

    • @genecarden780
      @genecarden780 Год назад

      @@ashleywilkes7632 yes they are. Short of tearing everything out and fixing it properly, you can caulk the tile to tub properly, seal the grout and hope for the best. But I have never seen a RUclips video of caulking the perimeter of the tub that was done properly. Having said that it is possible that the water never gets beyond the finishes on the walls. The problem is you will probably never know until possibly thousands of dollars of damage has been done.
      It’s not one of those” it will leak” problems More of a “ it can leak”

    • @ashleywilkes7632
      @ashleywilkes7632 Год назад

      Hm okay. It’s at the back of the shower, so I wondered if ripping the drywall out to expose that gap would work, using wedi sealant to caulk it really well. I suppose the alternative is getting the experienced tile guy to come in and redo the shower, which is fair. At least it’s not a full bathroom remodel…yet

    • @genecarden780
      @genecarden780 Год назад +1

      @@ashleywilkes7632 if I’m understanding you correctly it sounds like that would work. That is kinda what I meant by” tearing it out” and fixing it. I meant remove the finished wall in that area. Not remove everything.Sorry my reply was poorly worded.

    Thank you. I never even thought of that. I'm putting in one piece but still going to use that board. I have allot of work to do before then but want to do it all right.

    Great video, I’m a bit tired watching you work, but I’m inspired. I’m in Spain, they don’t use this method here, or the didn’t on my house, It’s the 5 blob method, 3 inch blobs, makes Reno a nightmare. Thanks so much 🙂

    Awesome work , love your videos so informative and give me confidence , I now know how to waterproof easily instead of what I was going to use .
    I'm pulling out my fibreglass shower and installing a frameless shower panel so no having to go around a tub lol
    Thanks so much

    Outstanding video! FINALLY someone who demonstrated how to install the waterproof panels to the tub flange!! THANK YOU! Question: if you have used Wedi and Schluter, in you professional opinion, how do the 2 products compare?

    This was an amazing tutorial. You solved several installation challenges I was thinking through. I liked how you used ample Wedi joint sealant but what is the best method to clean up where excess gets onto the tub surfaces? Thanks, again.

    Silly question, Is that a 48" tub?
