      It depends on the area and that's the most important factor. He works in wealthy area's so he's going to charge more to stay competitive...etc. If he was in some crap hole town in the deep south where having $0.02 in the savings account is the norm and the customer makes minimum wage while complaining about illegal aliens taking all the coal mining jobs that never even existed in the first place then he would not be doing this update there. I live in the crap hole south and our labor costs are dirt cheap because dirt cheap people with no self worth will do the jobs and that level of quality is deemed ok.

    WOW!! $20,000????? Where do you live?, Suckerville? For $20,000 you think that would include at least a new tub and drywall throughout the bathroom.

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  6 лет назад +32

      This is a vintage cast iron tub. Replacing it would have devalued the house. I live in a major us city with over 3 million people. Older homes in the city are very expensive and the remodels are even more expensive. The wealthy millennial's refuse to live in the suburbs and want older homes. The also have very different design preferences than people who live outside the city.

    • @MrDzdevil
      @MrDzdevil 6 лет назад +23

      Would not pay that much for a bathroom reno. Its also pretty tight in there. Unless that tub took a month of 8 hr days to refurbish, i dont see the 20k in that bathroom.

      Fair play Handyman - not knocking your work you're an expert craftsman - but for that money you'd want a lot more. Still if people pay it lap it up and you can laugh yourself to sleep at night. God bless the rich American sucker consumer.

If these homeowners would just sacrifice a month of weekends, they could do this project for under $5,000. Crazy what people are willing to spend their money on. Nice work Handyman.

      I know each country and job is different, here in oz an electrician charges about $80 au per hour. Same with a plumber, tilers charge around $50 au per square meter, but depends on the tile. The average worker earns $20-30 au per hour.

    its in a vintage home...you have to charge more for that. He puts himself at risk removing all that stuff in that bathroom. Not only that but drywall work on lath and plaster walls takes alot more time then usual. He redid the plumbing, redid the electrical, its completly revamped. 15k-20k with furnishings is reasonable.

    Great job! To all the "Haters," if he did the job for $8,000.00 and subtracted the cost of materials, liability, commercial vehicle, workmanship compensation insurance, sales, corporate & income tax he would have approximately $1500.00 left over.

    im just wondering.. if the sink leaks and the floor is flooded, where does the water go? its so trange because in norway you must have a drain in the bathroom and the whole bathroom floor must tilt towards it to prevent problems. but in the US its "here comes the flood down the stairs" hehe..

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  6 лет назад +4

      This is a very common question from people watching in different countries. Bathrooms in the USA do not have floor drains.

    • @t-gmailaccount6796
      @t-gmailaccount6796 6 лет назад +1

      They should. That’s a good idea. I’ve noticed that because most of the commercial building bathrooms will have them, but not residential. Definitely would’ve saved my carpeting at least once in my lifetime.

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI 6 лет назад +6

      Christopher Haugan we don’t need drains in a bathroom floor because when we notice a leak we fix it. There would be very, very few times we would ever need one in the US. The most it would used is if you were in hurricane country like I am and you flood from that but then you’ve got bigger issues to worry about than just the bathroom being wet.
      We have more than enough codes in the US and don’t need suggestions on importing more please

    • @nicholashartzler2205
      @nicholashartzler2205 6 лет назад +1

      I have never had a leak in all my years that has flooded a bathroom. I cant believe it is enough of a problem in your country to justify adding a drain to every bathroom. do you also have drains in the kitchen? My kitchen has far more fixture that could leak than my bathroom.

    • @whitechris720
      @whitechris720 6 лет назад

      That would be nice on that one day something terrible happened and you weren't home. How often do you actually use that drain? I have never had my bathroom flood in almost 40years.

    Nice job man. We just finished up a $30k bathroom. Most dont understand the amount of skilled work it takes to do what you did here. We are on another bathroom now, but much smaller scale. After that its off to an addition project. Glad things are going well for you.

    • @jay-rus4437
      @jay-rus4437 5 лет назад +1

      The Handyman ....LOL....you and I both know that is a complete impossibility. Was there profit at $20k?...sure, but what is wrong with that. If they went into business, and soon realized what it actually takes to operate a successful business, then they would have a different opinion of all of your work. You made a good profit at that cost....and that is great, and you should have...but even if it were at a lower cost, it couldnt be too much lower or there wouldnt be sufficient profit needed to stay in business.
      Non-business owners, or unsuccessful ones, do not understand the difference between hourly labor rate, company overhead, company profit, and project oversight expenses. It just so happens that you are the same individual that performs each of those things, but it doesnt diminish their value. If you were a lager company you would have had skilled tradesman on the job at the going hourly rate....you would have had someone go meet the client and ultimately bid the job....you would have had a project manager that coordinated the project....someone else to invoice and handle payments. So should you be paid the hourly rate for skilled work? Absolutely. What about project oversight? Yes. What about the bid process, invoicing etc? Without a doubt. And those functions are a necessity in running a successful business. The rest of these yahoos are out of business before they even begin. They just may not have realized it yet

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  6 лет назад +2

      Lots of behind the walls work before the remodel even started. All new electric circuits. All wiring was removed and replaced. Most all the plumbing behind the walls was cut out and replaced. There is a 15 video play list of all the details that went into this project. ruclips.net/p/PLpy7a6cc133hxnCQBPerx1waTV5YvSbLg The labor is expensive for all this work.

    • @GabrielGonzalez-kb5by

      Must be no competition in labor in that area. $1000 a day not even surgical doctors make that much. I think that labor is more important. Lol.

      Let’s see, for a 10 hour day that works out to $100 an hour and for that you get:
      Plumber
      Flooring
      Design
      Build
      Electrician
      Carpenter
      Painter
      And more
      On top of that I’d be willing to bet he speaks English, knows how to read prints and has GLI.

      Performensch the biggest percentage of my customers have me install curtains rather than antiquidated glass doors that are a nightmare to keep clean and mold free.
      We do glass surrounds on showers but never a tub/shower combo. And most of my bathroom remodels are over twice as much as this one and many run three times as much or more but are big rooms with big custom built showers etc.
      Shower doors are a dying piece of glass

      @TheHandyman1  6 лет назад +1

    I just had my bathroom redone, but no walls were taken out, the tub wasn't changed and it still cost 13K. Labor is expensive and there's a lot of labor here, including building the vanity from scratch! The homeowner might come to regret that weird sink. Cleaning it will be a nightmare.

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  6 лет назад +1

      Replacing all the plumbing for both bathrooms , replacing all the wiring in the walls and attic, and rebuilding the sub floor added to the costs of this bathroom. Also the custom quartz counter top with crazy sink added a lot too. What year was your house built.

    • @cherrybarb4651
      @cherrybarb4651 6 лет назад

      @@TheHandyman1 I agree. If I had all those things done - a complete tear-out and rebuild by a contracting company - would have cost me 25 - 30K easily. The only plumbing done was to add a second sink. My house was built in '92.
