Great video, really enjoyed your take on this subject. i have a hybrid and driving iron, but looking at this, maybe i need to choose one over the other... loving Trotties Tuesdays
Hey Chris, I was using a driving iron, I had difficulty hitting it out of the rough, found it easier to hit my hybrid out of the rough. Teeing it up was awesome though, I love the videos.
Built the Ultimate Driving Iron: A SIM UDI, bent 1 degree strong, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 85 X-Flex Shaft, Mid-Spin, Mid/high Launch Profile, tipped -0.5 Firm, Playing at 0.75" longer. Added extra tape under the grip to get the Swing-weight to D2. Great off the Tee and Fairway.
That sounds like a fix for my situation. I have a 4 iron, 4 utility iron and 4 hybrid. Hybrid and utility are adjustable. When I strike the utility good its always lower, struggle to get it up, but prefer iron over hybrid hence the utility. Maybe I'll search for a shaft that will help me and my swing. I notice my hybrid is over an inch longer than the iron or utility, your post giving me more ideas. Thanks
Great video👌🏻 I just received my New TaylorMade Stealth irons 5-PV a month ago. But i need to fill the gab from my 5 iron to my 3 Wood. I am more safe hitting irons therefore i maybe would go for the DHY.
DHY's are my favorite thing that have come out on the market. I have never been able to hit hybrids because i dont like the way they look. DHYs give the pop and appearance im looking for
Great advice Trottie. I’ve had two fittings with Taylormade here in the UK, brilliant best I’ve had. I had a space in the bag for one more club. I’m a senior (73) my handicap now down from 22 to 15 using Stealth 2 clubs. It was decided to compliment the driver and three wood and 4 hybrid to go with an alternative to my 5 iron with a 5 rescue,it fitted in with my gapping and distances so important. Originally I wanted to try the DHY but it was decided not the one to go for . It’s so important to have a fitting what ever level you are playing it really will improve your game and cover the gaps. The ball for me was the Tour preferred which I found excellent again through a fitting and Taylormade are by far the best I’ve experienced. Would love to see you do a video on course management and how you play a round of golf. Keep them coming great videos. The new wedges look awesome along with P790 irons!
Have a ping 3 crossover and a tm m3 rescue. I play to a 19 hdcp. I just feel more comfortable with it even though the hybrid is probably the better choice
Great video trottie. A question for a future tour truck Tuesday. How would u go about building your wedges to your irons on shafts. Would u go same shafts or heavier or lighter?
If not by now taylormade needs adjustable loft in all woods hybrids utility iron. I have cobra 3 wood hybrid and utility iron all adjustable. Im not brand specific, im just saying it comes in handy to fill gaps. That aside , i am currently deciding between these specific choices in your video. I like the idea of an iron over a hybrid. I carry 5 wood so its about the 4 uron position. Currently have a mizuno mp52 4 iron, a cobra king utility and the same year cobra f7 hybrid. Lofts 21.5-22. Im not the best striker and struggle to get the utility and definately the iron up high to have better chance at holding a green. The hybrid gets up fine and the shaft i notice is over an inch longer than the irons. For my eye, i dont prefer the hybrid. This is where it all started. The utility came with a TT AMT s300 white shaft, think a shaft change would help? Should the shaft be lengthened if so?
How would a 5 wood compare to a Utility Iron in terms of carry and total distance? I have a 17 degree (2i) utility iron and am looking at getting a SIM 2 Ti 5 wood to interchange with it depending on course conditions.
Just ordered a SIM Max 2 5 wood. When I tried the 3 wood, it didn’t go any farther. I’m guessing it’s because my swing speed isn’t high enough for meaningful difference. Any suggestions on what I should do to bridge the gap between my driver and 5 WOOD?
Just got fitted with a sim2 max rdx 6.0 black speed was 108mph driver, as well as 770-Mc combo set with modus 120s flex with 7iron speed in high 80s. Unfortunately the modus are back ordered until mid June. Just wondering your thoughts on a comparable shaft so I can still order taylormade. Would a 120x modus soft stepped once or twice work? Said I was border line to x flex. My runner up was apex pro same shaft and there order dates are 1-2 weeks. Would rather stay taylormade!!! Thanks!!
@@trottiegolf driver is order. But for the modus 120s backordered. Would you suggest soft stepping a x flex to get closer to the 120s I was fitted for?
Trottie, this is a little off topic here but I have a shaft question. I did choose a UDI. In theory I love it. It should fit my game well. I am hitting it well but even on my best strikes I feel as if the distance just isn't there. I haven't hit it on Launch monitor to see my numbers so I really don't know what is missing. It has 130g steel shaft that my fitter sugggested. Do you think that the swing weight may be too high? My 7 iron club head speed is around 110. Another great video! Becoming my favorite channel!
@@trottiegolf It has a swing weight of E6... Even at the speed I swing I think it is too heavy! Thanks Trottie! PS. Got TXG to shout out to your credibility in a one of the live chats. I'm reppin this channel until it get the credit ti deserves!
One of the best Clubs Taylormade ever produced was the 3-Wood V-Steele, 13 degree head, with Steel Shaft. I have revived that club by swapping the Steel shaft with the new Project X Hzrdus Smoke Black, RDX, 80gr, Tour Extra Stiff. Shaft tipped 1/2" playing at 44", with a 6gr hosel weight added. It's swing weighted at D6. Produces a mid-trajectory, wind piercing Ball flight, carrying 280yds with a 297yds total distance. And that's in 413 Density Altitude and 40 degree temperature. Old School technology mixed with New School technology, produced one of the best, if not the best, 3-wood ever made. Let me know if you would like to hit it.
V steel is the best , I have a 4 & 7 in the bag both with dynamic gold steel shafts, been looking around for some graphite shafts to throw on there might have to see how this combo works for me
As a taller player, Would love to see a fitting of someone 6’5” or taller. Cant understand why I’m told to extend 1.5-2” longer in irons but DJ and Finau play .5” over standard? I know way more factors go into this besides players height but would love your expertise on this. Cheers 🙏
@@lawbinson could be... I have average arms for my height. 6’5” wingspan. I bet Finau does but I’m not sure about DJ 🤷♂️ I’ve also heard they grow up playing standard length their whole lives and seem to be decent players lol, so why change anything

Hey Chris. How about a “what’s in your bag”? That would make a great vid 👍😎

P790 UDI 2 iron is hard to beat...great off the tee, versatile and easy to shape, works well from the fairway.
yeah I agree 100%

i loved the Adams DHY's, unfortunately face caved in on me :( havent been able to find one (reasonably priced) since.

Is the dhy less draw bias than hybrid then? I'd love to eliminate the left side of the golf course.
Yes due to CG being closer to face 👍🏻

of course..... if you like 5 Woods

Does weather not dictate your choice in your bag?
It can....... more so if you have a prevailing wind that’s consistent & impacts how you’d set up your wedges
Hey Trottie. Could a DHY replace a 5wood? Thanks L E G E N D🤙🏽
Yes but peak height lower so depends on what you’re looking to use it for.... consider stopping distances, roll out etc

Your 7 iron club head speed is 20 mph faster than PGA tour average and 3 mph slower than PGA tour average driver swing speed. Nice.
@@ChrisS2325 It's actually the speed of all my irons. I play SL. 1/2" longer than standard. I sense some skepticism?
