I think a challenge for Wes Anderson would be to try a horror film. His staging and visual framing techniques bear many similarities to Kubrick so it would be a welcome change and challenge to see him try to use his hyper-artificial style to invoke horror instead of comedy.
I see that from these podcasts Adum is the most knowledgeable of film however can be really annoying, Ralph is the most immature out of the three and Alex is the most quiet however most humble and relatable
@@angusboyd468 No, I think Ralph is very ignorant due his young age (and clearly being American), but he's really smart, I mean he's a film nerd in school still- also whether he's wrong is completely subjective- you could say the same about Adum too, it works both ways lol

Doug Walker strikes me as someone who's a nice person, but an extremely poor businessman. And for someone who always criticises other people's movies, he seems to know very little about how to actually make a movie. To Boldly Flee is one of the most incompetently put together movies I've ever seen.
I can't speak to anything else you said but I feel like while it takes the same knowledge to criticize as it does to create they are two different skills. A good food critic knows how food should taste but that doesn't mean they could step into the kitchen and whip up the same dishes.
I’m so glad you guys watched Boy: it’s for real one of my favorite films so it’s nice to see it get some love - I highly recommend it to anyone especially if you’re wanting to see more of Taika’s work after Thor & Jojo Rabbit!
Finally someone talking about Barry Lyndon! It is one of my favourite movies of all time and one of Kubrick’s finest works! The score is terrific and the performances are amazing! More people should watch it!

Oh my heart when Adam mentioned Dear Zachary. I’ve seen that documentary at least three times. It’s so gut wrenching and wonderful. That’s the movie to watch if you want tears. Also thank God my theater was mostly adults. That sounds awful.

All I know is the death of Channel Awesome has spawned a new genre of youtuber... Which is people who talk about Channel Awesome. Seriously I watched 1 video going over the "Not So Awesome" memo and I still get suggested 50 sub count nobodies making videos on how upset they are at Channel Awesome.
I have rediscovered Phil Buni through all this, and I've enjoyed watching him critique the worst of these bandwagon videos in his livestreams. There's this red-faced potato man who made a video trying to shame anyone who wants to take down or edit their old videos with Jew Wario in them, as if RUclips is some high art that needs to be preserved like classic film. I made a game of clicking through those videos and counting how many times the video 'producer' sighs at the camera and declares 'I didn't want to do a video about this.'

BEST SARDONICAST EVER!!! Listening to you guys having such contrasting opinions and explaining why you feel that qay as opposes to the other is just fantastic.
After watching Isle of Dogs, I watched both YMS and Ralph's reviews, and my first thought was "huh, they have almost opposite views on this film. I'd love to see them discuss it on the podcast". So thank you for letting that be real.
I think Ralph's arguments about Wes Anderson (as well as the ones he made in his Isle of Dogs video) have honestly aged pretty well, especially in light of The French Dispatch and Asteroid City. I think a lot of people at this point *are* getting quite sick of him using the same tricks everytime (esp. the deadpan and overtly direct dialogue which I will forever argue is the worst of his Wes Andersonisms).
Fun fact Alex! I’m a huge Zappa fan and love him for his interviews even more than his music (which I love). Zappa hates drugs and drug influence. I'm so excited for Adam to watch and discuss Barry Lyndon. It is easily in my top 5 if not 3 films of all time, I had noticed from his Letterboxd that he had not seen it but didnt know about the memes
@Sardonicast Sorry I'm a couple weeks behind, but this is the best episode yet! Really got the flow going and love more input from @I Hate Everything ! Keep it up!
When I went to see isle of dogs, I saw an elderly couple take their maybe 6-8 year old grandson to see the film, and within 20 minutes of the movie, they left after realising it wasn't a kids movie. I live in the UK and there were kids movie trailers when I went to go see it, I thought I walked into the wrong screening.
The way Antichrist was filmed felt really surreal and offputting. It had a really strange unnerving feel to it and it really filled me with a sense of dread and anxiety. It was really raw and visceral. The droning atmosphere and looming feeling of doom was terrifying to me.
I love listening to Adum in these podcasts. Like I'm getting a look into his real feelings and insecurities even. On his channel he takes a very professional approach and doesn't bring up any of his feelings if they aren't 100% relevant, and even then they're scripted carefully. I like getting little glimpses in this.
Would love to hear Ralph and Adam talk Isle of Dogs again but with spoilers because Ralph’s biggest problem with the film was the story and every time Adam was trying to defend the story he would stop his argument to not spoil the movie.
Dear Zachary did not make me cry, it make me furiously angry at the incompetence of the government officials allowing this mentally ill woman to continue her weird, controlling and abhorrent behaviour until the inevitable tragic outcome. Sorrow was not my primary emotion, anger was.
I have abstained from watching this episode because I wanted to see "island of dogs" before so they wouldn't spoil it for me. I have just gotten home from the theater(I personly love the movie) and now!! I can finally watch this I have been looking forward to it so much.
The issue is, It Comes At Night WAS marketed as a horror movie. I saw 3 different trailers and they were all themed as if it was going to strictly be a horror movie.
i just watched that fox scene and ralph/alex are right. it is funny. the fox looks too cute and opens his mouth too wide when he says it. also that ridiculous altered voice. the slow motion too adds to the humor. it felt like a clip from one of those talking animal comedy videos.
I guess it's one of those things that's sitting on the thin line between creepy and funny. The fact that it's so unexpected can either scare you or make you laugh.
A great changer of film as a film director is David Fincher and his films. As they talk about how film directors don't change much in style and don't grow.
Can't wait when they make the realization that Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr. Fox are for almost all ages. especially Mr.Fox. you could be 55 or 5 and enjoy that movie regardless.
I've just started listening to this series, and I get that this is from five years ago, but I really hope that Ralph gets a bit more detailed and concrete in his opinions, his general and nonspecific way of explaining himself really makes me understand why Americans get such an anti intellectual reputation.
The trailers I got for Isle of Dogs a were strange pattern. The first three were indie films (Can You Ever Forgive Me, Eighth Grader, the Mister Roger's Neighborhood documentary), but then we got trailers for Show Dogs and the Grinch. What a contrast. 😐
Also in Quebec, Canada. The Grand Budapest Hotel is rated G... An unaccompanied minor could walk in and go see that movie. Its an entirely another country.
2:40 - "I don't think anyone got assaulted." Allegedly the late Justin Carmical (aka, JewWario) did more than just harass or assault a girl. He's been accused of flat-out raping a woman in her sleep.
I agree with Adam's sentiment that Boy doesn't bring any revolutionary ideas to the table, because plenty of films have been made before and since confronting the same ideas, but to us Kiwis - we don't get our culture examined and critiqued like this often. It was uncomfortable and phenomenal to experience our own sheltered reality up close and personal in a film like this. The setting this movie presents feels like my home, and I think that's why the movie carries more weight to me and all the Kiwis I know than to Adam.
Both times I went to a theater to see Isle of Dogs, a trailer for an R rated movie called “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” played and then 3 kids movie trailers played and I was so confused. (They were “Showdogs”, “Hotel Transylvania 3”, and whatever that shitty Grinch movie by Illumination is called.)

Lanthimos then hahahahahaha
You should check out that SNL skit "The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders."
i fuckin love that sketch
stop being smart in a comment section- its against the rules of youtube
He should do a stop motion horror film
“That’s a good lesson for you Ralph. Everything you love dies eventually.”

Canada is a country, America is a country and Britain is not.
xanderdoesgames you're right
Britain is so much more than just a country
If you want to get pedantic like that America is a continent. Well two.
Will Davies agreed, it's a city
Eddie the Head The United States of America is not a continent.

This recording has aged POORLY.
RickRaptor105 can someone explain this comment to me? do you mean after this recording there has been confirmed sexual assault?

does Ralph not understand how "review" websites work? does he really think the scores are directly derived from the brains of the audience?
The issue is, It Comes At Night WAS marketed as a horror movie. I saw 3 different trailers and they were all themed as if it was going to strictly be a horror movie.
i just watched that fox scene and ralph/alex are right. it is funny. the fox looks too cute and opens his mouth too wide when he says it. also that ridiculous altered voice. the slow motion too adds to the humor. it felt like a clip from one of those talking animal comedy videos.
UnbelievabIeMontages The bit before with it eating its own flesh is kinda disturbing, and it actually makes it funnier somehow.
I guess it's one of those things that's sitting on the thin line between creepy and funny. The fact that it's so unexpected can either scare you or make you laugh.
A great changer of film as a film director is David Fincher and his films. As they talk about how film directors don't change much in style and don't grow.
HOW THE FUXK have none of you seen the Royal Tenenbaums?
Can't wait when they make the realization that Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr. Fox are for almost all ages. especially Mr.Fox. you could be 55 or 5 and enjoy that movie regardless.
Alex that is literally the most abysmal New Zealand accent I have ever heard

It was half Jeff da Māori and half Australian.
2:40 - "I don't think anyone got assaulted."
Allegedly the late Justin Carmical (aka, JewWario) did more than just harass or assault a girl. He's been accused of flat-out raping a woman in her sleep.
When i have nothing to do, i get blessed by sardonicast
