Sardonicast I’m glad I went ahead and treated myself to Happiness earlier this year. A very dark but illuminating look into the pursuit of happiness and how a person’s desires are rarely in their own best interest. Despite that, it can be terribly funny at times, where you are laughing at what is possibly the worst thing you could hear a person say. I really look forward to your discussion.
broderick kurtz I would love to see Ralph's RUclips channel but let's be honest, he isn't promoting it enough on here. Can't he just say it and spell it out every time?
OMG. Adum was right on the money when he said people were doing the clicking sound in the the theater to prove they're not scared. I had so many in mine theater and it was annoying and distracting.
Manuel Velazquez MY worst theater going experience was Midsommar at AMC with these two metalhead vampire assholes who kept going “OH SHIT” when anything slightly off was happening, which was about every minute of the film.
It’s two different sports with different play styles with the only real similarity being that it’s a contact game of taking land to make a goal and though they wear pads they do hit each other way fucking harder
To answer the Shaolin Soccer/Football in Chinese: It's 少林 = Shaolin And 足球, in which 足 means foot, and 球 is ball, so yes, literally translated it's Shaolin Football, but I guess it doesn't roll off the tongue as well lol
Yes, it has been simmering nicely for the last 11 episodes. They clearly have completely different opinions on a lot of things. I hope, at some point, it builds to a crescendo. We shall see...
Athena Jaxon lol I actually thought it was the other way around. Though, I think they were trying to debate objectivity when it was really just perspective.
ZAP ARTS ZAP ARTS I agree with Athena Jaxon. Take for example when they talk about Do The Right Thing and Adam talks about the progression of the movie. Ralph: I think it builds everyone up very well for the climax - Adam: No. Like what the fuck? He wasn't even done talking. Just seems like the wrong sort of language to respectfully disagree.
"We became independent from Alex's shitty country to make awesome sports. We invented baseball, football, all better than soccer where you score once every twenty years" - Ralph the Movie Maker 2018
I had the exact same experience watching Hereditary as Alex. The movie kept subverting my expectations and surprising me. The things that happened kept hitting me like a brick wall, I was feeling such empathy for the characters and the realistic way they went through the ordeals of the movie. And the whole fucking theatre was talking, making jokes and they kept doing the clicking sounds and laughing at each other. It was a weird experience because I was emotionally invested in the movie and had my blood boiling because of the audience at the same time.
Yeah theatres where I am mostly don’t play the movies I want to see sadly but the ones I did get to catch like 12 Years a Slave and Phantom Thread almost invariably had annoying dumbasses and almost everyone walking out. That’s fine I have a pretty solid little Blu-ray/DVD collection and a decent setup and I like introducing people to weird movies if our interests seem to align
BathroomTile oh, and GET OUT was a really bad one. Literally a whole row right behind me of young black kids all on their phone playing videos with the sound on and talking like they’re at the mall or something. So inconsiderate. When I saw split apparently this black lady thought it was an appropriate movie to bring a newborn infant to and the kid cried the whole fucking time. I try not to let it bug my enjoyment of the movie but I’m also the type to ask people to knock it off and bitch to the employees if they won’t stop
The movie "The Meg" is actually based on a novel simply called "Meg" and has been in development hell for almost two decades. The only reason it's finally getting made is because it's now an American-Chinese co-production.
My experience watching Hereditary was TERRIBLE. At least 6 people did the clicking sound at random points, the guy next to me was on his phone 90% of the flick, people laughed when the brother jumped out the window, one of the people I was with kept over-praising it. No joke. I was super irritable after it
Tito Miranda It was just the person in general, they wouldn't shut up about it. Like literally every sentence was something related to how good it was. Which that can get annoying. Like yea if a movies good praise it, just don't make everything relate back to it
Dude, I had almost the exact same experience. I saw this with two friends and my boyfriend, and the only other respectful people in the crowd were the couple next to us. Everyone else was laughing, talking, clucking, shouting, etc. I had been anxiously anticipating the movie since the first trailer came out. The first movie in a long time that I wanted to see unironically, and it was ruined by idiots who don't understand good horror. I was fuming after the movie was over.
AngryGuy2 I learned my lesson many many years ago thankfully about this kind of stuff by trying to recommend entry level “thinky films” to stupid assholes haha
We had a substitute at our high school who had Shaolin Soccer on DVD, and whenever we had him, he would just play it for us because he was pretty lax. Shaolin Soccer is now a running gag at our school now.
Jake Cormier sadly, yes. It's just a fucking sport. Of Course, the company's probably only do it because they need to make sure they can maximize income.
The games were on during evenings and Saturdays. You can't blame them for avoiding competing with that popular sports event anymore than you can blame a studio for not premiering during the Superbowl.

when adam said he had tickets for the Man who Killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot I thought it was 2 different movies. but then i looked it up and, oh no, that is the actual one movie title
Everything Adum talks about with regard to a film being subtle and making you figure things out by thinking about the film later is represented perfectly in my pick for best film of the year, Annihilation. However, he didn't like that one as much. I'm not sure I understand what he wants from freaky, slow, scary movies at that point. I agree with Adum often but his complaints for Annihilation and Hereditary don't make sense, especially in comparison. At least he loves Wes Anderson films as much as I do.
Annihilation literally represents passing through the looking glass with an anthropomorphic mirror appearing from pure light and then mirroring the protagonist as they Wrestle with their mortality, subtle is not how I would describe it, cryptic maybe, but to each their own.
There is foreshadowing to all the decapitations in Hereditary. During the party scene, Peter's friends are watching a video on their laptop that shows a guillotine. Also, during the first scene of Peter in class, I believe his teacher is talking about Paimon, though I'm not sure.
No close the class is discussing the Greek tragedy which relates to one of the central concepts of the film one of hopelessness despair and inevitability
Infrasound, outside of the context of a "rave party," is actually very spooky and unnerving to people. It causes feelings of dread and auditory hallucinations. 90% of the time if someone thinks they have a ghost in their house its environmental infrasound pollution from one or another source.
i just watched hereditary for the first time today and tbh i thought of what adam mentioned with the ending when it happened, but i definitely agree with ralph and why he felt it didn't do a disservice to the film or its ending. anyways i really loved this movie, it surprised me so much, even though i had hunches throughout it i was so shocked at how they created those uniquely unsettling scenes.
i always feel like there's this weird tension between ralph and adam because of their constant disagreements but then alex always has something to say to cool it down, it's strangely adorable
Gotta back Ralph up, Colin Stetson has described his recording methods in-depth, & a lot of the percussive & rhythmic elements of his music are produced by his fingers tapping the keys, as well as his thumb tapping his saxophone. There’s certainly other instrumentation all over the soundtrack, but in the scenes in question, he’s doing a mixture of repeated low notes on the baritone, & tapping the instrument.
Christopher Lowery yeah it was kind of annoying and embarrassing for me to see Adam be so confident and yet dead wrong especially since he’s a musician and didn’t even seem to recognize or care about the soundtrack, which is brilliant btw
The reason for "Incredibles 2" and "Ant Man and the Wasp" being delayed here is because of the World Cup and Disney didn't want to lose out on potential viewings.
YESSSSS! I've been waiting for you guys to pick a movie by Todd Solondz! I looove his dark sense of humor. so excited that I'm not the only one that's seen that movie! can't wait for the next episode!

i just watched hereditary for the first time today and tbh i thought of what adam mentioned with the ending when it happened, but i definitely agree with ralph and why he felt it didn't do a disservice to the film or its ending. anyways i really loved this movie, it surprised me so much, even though i had hunches throughout it i was so shocked at how they created those uniquely unsettling scenes.
Late night bois who up?
: (
Ooh, ooh! Me! ME!
Pablo M. G-M I'm telling your mom
It's 1 am here
Im asleep
I can see you guys made a conscious effort to talk equally and it was really good. Thanks :D
I think Adam was being unreasonable in not wanting to explain his viewpoint and criticising Ralph for asking him to explain
18:34, Coming this Fall. Alex Hits Puberty 2: Eccentric Ballgaloo.
i always feel like there's this weird tension between ralph and adam because of their constant disagreements but then alex always has something to say to cool it down, it's strangely adorable
Wait the whole conversation before Hereditary I thought they were talking about Hereditary and was SO confused
Barry Jenkins has a movie coming out this year
The reason for "Incredibles 2" and "Ant Man and the Wasp" being delayed here is because of the World Cup and Disney didn't want to lose out on potential viewings.
I remembered that my Friend rented “Shaolin Soccer” when Blockbuster was still around. Shit had us dead.
"Sorry to Bother You" needs to be discussed
YESSSSS! I've been waiting for you guys to pick a movie by Todd Solondz! I looove his dark sense of humor. so excited that I'm not the only one that's seen that movie! can't wait for the next episode!
1 am uploads are always blessed
Hereditary is easily the best horror movie i’ve seen since The Exorcist
I love how there all so different but they still have similar views on films.
Ralph needs to watch the animated film Redline, it is also just straight entertainment.
Cool, a new episode of Adams Podcast... also IHE and Ralph
You want to hear something really mean, Adam?
Incredibles 2 isn't out in Switzerland until September.
Adam getting feisty with Ralph on First Reformed
