I can not believe what you guys have done with this episode. You have shamelessly COPIED another podcast called the "Sardonicast." I did not expect this from my favorite youtuber Adumthemoviehater
Twan Van Der Linden This is actually the spiritual prequel to *Sardonicast Episode 1* they bought the rights. The full name is *Sardonicast Episode 2: before the bogaloo*
Adam suggested that Hausu (1977) might have been the first movie to use "the creepy black hair thing." However, I think that it's much more likely that it originated from the 1964 Japanese horror anthology movie Kwaidan (怪談). The first short in this movie, entitled "The Black Hair" (黒髪), features the ghost of a scorned wife with (as the title suggests) very long spooky black hair. I would highly recommend this movie both as a standalone horror experience and also as a significant event in the history of Japanese horror films.
I think it goes all the way back to certain yokai. I don't remember the name but one is basically an umbrella with one eye and long stringy black hair. There is also a creepy woman yokai who shares a lot of similarities with the j-horror stereotype.

Omg Adam read my comment?? ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Senpai noticed me 😂😂 All jokes aside though I love that the three of you are doing this, I watch all of you individually and enjoy your content. It’s really weird to have something I said get through to you though, to the listener it feels like you’re in a room talking to us and we can participate in the conversation, but for you it must be like a deluge or cascade of feedback with each comment a tiny drop in the onslaught. I don’t know I always find that thought strange... The movie was Shakespearean? So it had cookie cutter farcical characters, was filled with jokes that appeal to the lowest common denominator, and was meant to be a blunt and on the nose commentary on topical issues? I got very off topic... And watch Nausica Valley of the Wind - it was Miyazaki’s second movie and still my favourite so far
I kinda love how, of the three, Alex is probably the most positive for a lot of things, especially during Black Panther And this is the guy with the channel called "I Hate Everything".
I'm sorry but that 2 in that typeface looks way too much like a 1. The curve at the top isn't defined enough and the little curl at the bottom is too squashed so it's barely noticeable.
Niŋinturdle 已ric beŋamin horton I mean, I can tell what number it's supposed to be but it barely looks like a 2. Also it will happen again because there are more numbers that use 2. Unless they addressed this.
I hate when people say a show gets good after the second, third, fourth, etc. season. If it doesn't have something compelling going for it within the first half of the first season why should I have any reason to continue watching based entirely on other people's opinions? Films abide pretty strictly by a '20-minute rule' where an inciting, compelling incident must occur within the first 20 minutes of the film or it will greatly risk its possibility of hooking the audience. Where do we draw the line for TV shows? By comparison, 5 or 6 hours should be enough.
Fair point, but maybe those later seasons are actually very good with interesting, compelling material, and while the early seasons are not up to that standard, they are needed for context. I guess it depends on how long the build-up takes, the depths of the worst, early episodes, and the heights of the later, good episodes. And everyone's mileage varies. Plus, films and shows are different beasts. Films are done and released, and then they get feedback. They're done over shorter schedules. Shows can last years, have changes in writers, sometimes cast, producers, varying directors episode to episode, can change things up from feedback between seasons or breaks in seasons, and can progress over time, and even adapt to real world events. Also, the genre of a show can have a huge impact. A tight, fast-paced drama with lots of continuity can be seriously ruined by several bad seasons. However, a comedy with a more loose narrative like The Simpsons or South Park can survive a few horrendous episodes and newcomers can skip out on the ones that have bad word-of-mouth, and have a more enjoyable experience.
There are some exceptions though I feel. BoJack Horseman deserves a full season and with the knowledge that every season gets better than the last. Episodes like 7-12 are so so different than the first 6 of season 1. IndieWire had to amend their process of reviewing TV shows because of Bojack horseman. It toaly changes after the first half of season 1 and maintains that tone. They went from giving it a C+ to calling it the best animated show of all time.
I get it. I say the same thing about Kubrick films and some of Kendrick Lamar’s albums have a lot of layering and cross referencing going on that you simply can’t catch on the first sitting
im so fucking glad you adressed saying inhibit instead of exhibit. i had to pause the video last time and look it up to make sure i wasn't going crazy. i thought i trusted daddy adum too much but clearly not
I use Rotten Tomatoes, but only because I'm aware of how the percentage system works. I always look at the actual critic average (which they don't even bother showing on the mobile site), read some of the reviews, and then watch guys like Ralph and Chris Stuckman to gather whether or not I would actually like the film.
Jeff I also like to compare Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic with IMDB to see if the audiences and critics agree. Btw didn't SynthCool call you out in his Metal Machine Music review?
This has easily become my favorite podcast with how respectful each of you are to each other, with the different backgrounds, cultures, and opinions. I can imagine, finally, a youtube community that creates conversation rather than arguments. Thanks for the recommendations - it would be really neat if you could add some sources pertaining to Michael Haneke (or whatever is being talked about), because your topics are genuinely intriguing (I know that takes some time though and i could just not be a lazy fuck and look it up myself)
I have a friend who claims to be a film enthusiast, who's said to me "Really? You liked The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? It only has a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes." and "But Black Panther has 97% on Rotten Tomatoes! How did you not love it?". He's also said something along the lines of "Oh nah [insert movie here, I forgot which one] doesn't look good, it's got a [somewhere between 40%-59%] on Rotten Tomatoes."
I got a novel idea. How about paying attention to the class material, maybe utilize some critical thinking and engage with the courses? Instead of being a shitbag dumb kid whose only knowledge and experience come from YT videos.
Dog Debarko whoa dude, i had finished a test and we had time to do whatever. got the notification then. i dont know what you have against me, but calling me a "shitbag dumb kid" is kinda childish
I thoroughly enjoyed Black Panther, but it was just another Marvel movie. Nothing more. The politicizing of factory made, studio produced products like Ghostbusters (2016), Wonder Woman, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and now Black Panther is really pissing me off. Not only are they just movies, they are movies that are made by a bunch of suits according to exactly what the charts and test audiences say to make the most profit and sell the most toys possible. They don’t care about you and your feelings. They’re manipulating you
J Victor Lol yeah, I know it isn’t really that brave of a sentiment to express here (it is the Sardonicast after all). Doesn’t make me feel any less passionate about it though
I feel like the studio/makers really only did that with ghostbusters and kind of wonder woman. Star Wars and Black Panther have a lot of minorities, but the story of BP requires the mostly african american cast based on the comics and the politics of the film considering it focuses on a new KING. Last jedi just had diverse casting but it wasnt played up very intensely the way Ghostbusters was for feminism. I think thats the main example id use of a company actively trying to push whatever beliefs on their audience, especially with the responses to negative criticism at the time by Paul Feig and Sony. Of course little girls are gonna be excited for WW, thats a given.
alex, here's a tip if you want to watch a video you might regret, open it in incognito, those youtube employee's wont be able to track you when you're using INCOGNITO mode....
Guys, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Hausu is brilliant. Also, in my opinion, "Requiem for a Dream" is scarier than any Horror film I've ever seen. It's just so... uncomfortable.
+Mr Robot Please for the love of god tell me you've watched the whole thing. I'll admit, if you've never been depressed or anxious or don't really care about the political commentary, there isn't much in the characters for you to connect with other than the comedy, but as someone who cares about all of that, I found the show quite profound and stepping forward in the right direction for adult cartoons.
The problem with videogames being art is the fact that very little few titles have made the quote unquote "interactive art", most games try so hard to be as cinematic as the masterpieces from film industry that fail to be a game. The Witness, as Adam said, it's a great example of interactive art, because it uses everything that videogames can do to communicate what it wants to communicate, instead of using cutscenes to show you the message, it makes you discover all the crazy and weird stuff it wants you to see and feel. My favorite game ever is The Last of Us, I think is one of the best games ever made, but in the subject of being art, The Witness is better in every single way. Ken Levine, the mind behind the BioShock series, once said that videogames as a form of art it's on the silent films era, it still needs ti grow up to be considered the next art branch. He is totally right. Great episode, Alex needs to, like, fucking talk, but great episode.
Q and A questions: 1:14:49 - What's your favorite musical score from a film? 1:30:07 - Any lesser known RUclipsrs you would recommend? 1:33:27 - Which is your favorite Star Wars film and why? 1:44:48 - Roger Ebert infamously said once that video games can never become art in the same way that films, music or literature can. Do you agree with this or disagree with it? 1:52:13 - What are your favorite TV shows?
I like Adum's perspective on TV shows. If you don't find yourself invested in the characters or storyline by the end of the first three episodes, it's never going to invest you, even if you "keep watching" or "give it a chance". It shouldn't take more than three episodes to get you hooked.
Netflix once released a list of an average of how many episodes per show before the binge watching kicked in. For instance the typical viewer had to get to episode 4 of daredevil before they opted to power through the rest. Some other shows like Lost got people from episode 1 it was an interesting list. I felt the same way about daredevil wasn’t until episode 4 it really got going for me
Yeah, that makes sense. I happened to get interested in Game of Thrones' characters by the second episode of Season 1, and then it held my interest with a cool kind of murder-mystery vibe throughout the season, before it hit me with the big guns!
there are examples where some tv shows have completely changes their style after around 6 episodes. metacritic had to renew their system of reviewing a show after only watching 6 episodes after their review of bojack horseman. bojack had a shite start and a lackluster first few episodes but after episode 6 it completely changes as a show and tone and so metacritics review of the show did not reflect the entire show accurately
The Criterion features said House was a massive financial hit in Japan that had children lining up around the block all day (this sounds like a joke but it’s not). However, it was critically reviled and filmmakers were afraid it would be the death of legitimate Japanese cinema because it was so stupid and tasteless.

BattleUp Saber they need to get the director and the video jockey from "Who killed captain Alex"

Mitch L, that wasn't both of the episodes?
Poor innocent Alex

Can someone make a fanedit that cuts out Adum, Ralph, and Alex?
And edit in the soundtrack to Lion King
And edit in the parts where Charles Stiles and Cool Cat speak

John Cage did it

C/\GE \/ICK no haha I worded that really weird I jokingly meant rotten tomatoes will give his movie bad reviews
MoonWalker Productions lmao I see
Gonna be honest I mistook that thumbnail for Cool Cat fanart.
You haven't seen editing until you've seen Hausu.
And you'll never truly be pretentions until you've seen House (english dub).
And also Tetsuo the Iron Man
Omg Adam read my comment?? ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Senpai noticed me 😂😂
All jokes aside though I love that the three of you are doing this, I watch all of you individually and enjoy your content.
As a student of languages when Adam said "I think that language is very important" :')
Senpai validated my poor collegiate decisions.
Confirmed Millenial linguists shape the world!
Why would it be a poor decision? It’s literally one of the most useful degrees
when
Adam doesn't know anything. You are wasting your life.
Dude you just used language to express your negative view of them studying language. Language is very important and very cool.
Never try and co ordinate these just keep them as glorious hilarious shit shows
Alex's voice is SO NICE. And his laugh???? AMAZING. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MAN.
I kinda love how, of the three, Alex is probably the most positive for a lot of things, especially during Black Panther
And this is the guy with the channel called "I Hate Everything".
Sardonicast, more like Serotonincast
ɪᴍᴀɢɪɴᴀʀʏꜰᴀɴʙoʏ I always see you in comment sections.
ɪᴍᴀɢɪɴᴀʀʏꜰᴀɴʙoʏ fuckin got em dude
...what?
OMG YOU'RE SOOOO RIHGHT
No one has fully watched this at the time of me writing this.
3 times already
Don’t need to fully watch it to masturbate
what do you want, a fucking cookie?
Ahri is gay
Yes thats how time works
"Audio quality's not good or anything," says Ralph who has the worst microphone in the podcast.
I noticed it too, but something exhibited me from commenting.
im so fucking glad you adressed saying inhibit instead of exhibit. i had to pause the video last time and look it up to make sure i wasn't going crazy. i thought i trusted daddy adum too much but clearly not
24:00
Birth of a Nation. You guys are talking about Birth of a Nation.
Literally what I thought of when they discussed whether films can be good but have fucked up messages
Patrick Hogan I was thinking that also. Perhaps one of the most important films in film history may be the most controversial.
Triumph of the Will could apply as well
That was the first movie that came to my mind. Amazing filmaking for a KKK commercial.
The original or 2016 film of the same name?
Saw Hausu in my film school history of Special effects class. Was real fun watching it in a small classroom with ~15 other college students.
Ralph predicted coronavirus
therefore, all his predictions of the future must be true too. God my life is gonna be so cool soon
Never stop this podcast!!!
Had a really bad day at school so cheers for making after school decent !
Holy shit, I'm famous!
This is England is fantastic. Goddamn wonderful taste, Alex.
Great podcast you guys. Already an improvement over the first episode. I think this channel has alot of potential bois!
get Jay Bauman to make a guest appearance on the podcast
Jack Harris or Mike stoklasa (they probably won’t though)
*****Rich Evans
RICH EVANS HAS LOST THE WILL TO LIVE
I think Mike or Rich might be able to roll with these guys, might. They are VERY old.
FapMonster they are indeed, dont know if they connect with young folks
Half the comments are just IHE memes.
Durr Plant
Patrick Donaghy fuckin Mars bars

The other half are Ralph memes
RELEASE THE DRONE
De plant
Someone dig up the hour long video where someone claims Attack of the Clones is one of the best movies ever made.
Well ralph commented on the latest hbomberguy video...
He's also said something along the lines of "Oh nah [insert movie here, I forgot which one] doesn't look good, it's got a [somewhere between 40%-59%] on Rotten Tomatoes."
im in school and i forgot my fucking headphones
help me
I got a novel idea. How about paying attention to the class material, maybe utilize some critical thinking and engage with the courses? Instead of being a shitbag dumb kid whose only knowledge and experience come from YT videos.
Should have just held the speaker of your phone directly against your ear and taken a nap. If you are going to slack off, slack right.
Steal a pair from the I.T room
Dog Debarko whoa dude, i had finished a test and we had time to do whatever. got the notification then. i dont know what you have against me, but calling me a "shitbag dumb kid" is kinda childish
Duzonim Yee just a shitbag dumb adult that can't comprehend free time.
They’re manipulating you
calvin damon wow brave opinion
J Victor Lol yeah, I know it isn’t really that brave of a sentiment to express here (it is the Sardonicast after all). Doesn’t make me feel any less passionate about it though
calvin damon k
Art means what the consumer decides it means. Get over it.
holy shit they made a second one
legible really?
legible I didn’t notice
weed
I hate mars bars
elon musk talk didnt age well lol
alex, here's a tip if you want to watch a video you might regret, open it in incognito, those youtube employee's wont be able to track you when you're using INCOGNITO mode....
Anything with adult content requires a sign in
I love the way all of Dennis Vileneuve's films are scored. Prisoners, Sicario, Enemy, and Arrival all have very distinct themes.
Mr.Host - don’t forget Blade Runner 2049
All scored by Johann Johannsson, RIP
Oh shit. I had no idea he died this year... Now I'm sad.
Mr.Host yeah, sadly he died only a few weeks ago
RIP Johann Johannsson
OH YES MY FAVORITE STRAIGHT HETERO MALES
dothest thou even hoist WRONG
adum is gay and a furry. that makes you gay too
...Unlike all the gay hetero males?
I'm very surprised adam does not like better call saul.
Oh shit.
I've been subscribed to you for quite some but still haven't watched your videos. Where do I start?
Newest one, honestly.
Need that ad revenue, rate that.
Congrats on the shoutout! Hopefully you get a much needed sub boost :)
I’ve been subscribed to you for quite a while man! Big fan. Congrats on the shout out
I don't think elon musk has ever invented anything. He just does acid and buys companies.
Stan Lees cameo is him in his car locking his door when tchalla is passing by him.
Paul Lehman I can’t tell if your being sarcastic, it’s actually in the Casino scene.
Paul Lehman yeah he was in the casino
Guys, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Hausu is brilliant. Also, in my opinion, "Requiem for a Dream" is scarier than any Horror film I've ever seen. It's just so... uncomfortable.
What love to know their thoughts on Bojack Horseman
Nathan Moore Alex talked about liking it in his Big Mouth review
Best tv show ever made
really amazing show. probably my favorite atm
Mr Robot Someone didn’t get past the first season...
Oh, my god, Alex Princess Mononoke soundtrack is goddamn best. Good taste!
This Is England next episode? Fuck yes, I fucking adore that movie.
Next movie should be mars bars
El Cítrico lol you don't need to type "quote unquote" when you already have quotation marks
TheSwineFlu97 / thx for the advise
Well when you think about it, video games are pretty much just every other art form put together to create something new. Art, music, writing, etc.
Pretty good comment.
I loooove the Lion King score. I saw Hans Zimmer live last year and I had tears in my eyes when he played from it 😍
Q and A questions:
1:14:49 - What's your favorite musical score from a film?
1:30:07 - Any lesser known RUclipsrs you would recommend?
1:33:27 - Which is your favorite Star Wars film and why?
1:44:48 - Roger Ebert infamously said once that video games can never become art in the same way that films, music or literature can. Do you agree with this or disagree with it?
1:52:13 - What are your favorite TV shows?
G
You've hit a complete new low, this is a Bottom 2 episode for sure
I didn't know Adam knew Zach Snyder. Damn Man, getting some real pull in the industry from Canadia.
Ralph's laugh after YMS said that nearly deafened me.
I like Adum's perspective on TV shows. If you don't find yourself invested in the characters or storyline by the end of the first three episodes, it's never going to invest you, even if you "keep watching" or "give it a chance". It shouldn't take more than three episodes to get you hooked.
Yeah, it's understandable, you have already watched 2 movies worth of it at that point
Netflix once released a list of an average of how many episodes per show before the binge watching kicked in. For instance the typical viewer had to get to episode 4 of daredevil before they opted to power through the rest. Some other shows like Lost got people from episode 1 it was an interesting list. I felt the same way about daredevil wasn’t until episode 4 it really got going for me
i'm in 2 season of Mr Robot and i don't know when it gets good...
.... i try so hard and got so far. :(
Yeah, that makes sense.
I can’t believe Suspiria remake only had 65 on rotten. I feel like it’s one of the best horror
Movies ever made.
The Criterion features said House was a massive financial hit in Japan that had children lining up around the block all day (this sounds like a joke but it’s not). However, it was critically reviled and filmmakers were afraid it would be the death of legitimate Japanese cinema because it was so stupid and tasteless.
Omg my mum thought Black Panther was legit dead when he got thrown off a Cliff. Imagine being that naive. Every movie would be a rollercoaster
The Souls-Borne series is a tremendous example of videogames being art
