Why community college students get into “better” schools

  • Why is it easier to get into a Top 25 college if you transfer from a community college compared to straight from HS?
Why do some "mediocre" students from high school get into better schools than some of their "smarter" peers?
Why do most counselors/advisors never discuss the community college transferring path if you want to go to a good school?
What makes community college much easier than high school even though college is supposed to be "harder"?
If you have these questions in your mind, then I think I have the answers for you...

I think it's important to note that the difficulty difference b/t CC and a T-20 uni has a lot to do with your major. I've noticed that the humanities courses at CC are significantly easier than STEM (esp physics), so people majoring in those fields may have a harder time transitioning to classes at 4 year universities.

I got a 2.5 GPA from a community college and transferred to UCSB. Maybe the accepted me in was because even though my GPA was low I completed over 60 units in 2 years and some were in tough classes such as statistics.

This is the school that I want to transfer to as well. If you are a Georgia resident, look into REPP if you want to go into engineering. Georgia Tech has a lot of transfer programs. They also have an art and sciences pathway. Also a first generation pathway. There are so many paths to Georgia Tech. go to admission.gatech.edu/transfer-pathway-programs and look at every single option, see what's best for you.

It depends on the school you are applying to and at what year you will be attending the university. For example, if you graduated with your associate degree and looking to transfer to a selective school, they will ask for your high school transcript - BUT they will primarily focus on your college transcript. Hope that helps.
