  • The Kroot (Krootis aviana), known to the Imperium as Kroot Carnivores, are a fascinating and formidable xenos species, integral members of the T'au Empire. Hailing from the rugged, forested world of Pech, the Kroot are a highly adaptable species with a unique evolutionary biology rooted in their avian ancestry. Standing a good half-meter taller than most Humans which means they are on average 7ft tall, the Kroot are humanoid in form, but with bird-like beaks, long head quills, and sleek body frames. Kroot biology is a marvel of evolution, an intricate system honed over millennia to allow them to not just survive, but thrive in a galaxy teeming with threats. Their wiry, powerful bodies are covered in rough skin, interspersed with small, barbed spines-the remnants of feathers from their evolutionary ancestors. The most extraordinary aspect of Kroot biology lies in their method of evolution, a process that is as gruesome as it is effective. Kroot evolve by consuming the flesh of their enemies, absorbing genetic traits and incorporating them into their own genome. This unique ability allows Kroot to rapidly adapt to new challenges.

The kroot are really bizarre, what ever they eat they gain it’s traits. If they eat an ork they would get stronger, eat an Eldar they get smarter.

Read the karskin book, they go over it and detail and it’s what you say but so so soooo much more. They even get their minor characteristics like one guy who ate something smart was getting frustrated at his tracker who ate a bird last meal. The bird guy apparently lost intelligence it was to a minor degree but other guy got a small spike to intelligence and it made the gap significant in thought speed.

@@MadMalkavian book, it’s a pretty good astra militarium one, starts off slow and the kroot aren’t in it until like the last 1/3 but they dont waste time making you love them. It’s also kinda heartwarming how the kroot and humans bond but still have duty first.

@@MadMalkavian I was curious about that too diet wise. They only showed purely natural beings effecting them (I think to keep it simple on the writer for the battles) but even with a hawk and a few normal animals the changed was significant. They even mention aspects that I didn’t even think of like eyesight and hearing improved too. They also seemed to have the side effect of animals of the species they ate felt MORE comfortable around them and in some case accepted them as one of them.
