    Good Morning Paul, Thank you for the update and a reminder for me to plan to attempt hardwood cuttings very soon. I will watch your hardwood cutting video again. I will definitely try my variegated weigela. I cannot believe how good your propagations look, they grew fast, faster than I would have expected. I have to try this. Oh My, companies are sending you products, now! Congratulations you YOU Tube influencer 😄 ( My garden update: I have purchased a fabulous camellia called Paradise Blush to plant in a new area. Weather: hammering frosts and sunny days ) PS. love your relaxing videos and tutorials and it is lovely chatting to you across the globe. 🌱

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  Год назад +1

      Hello Margaret! You stand a very good chance with the variegated weigela. As it’s easy and you’ve probably got lots of pencil thickness stems - take a lot of cuttings and put the pots in different locations so they get different amounts of cold and rain - remember ‘belt and braces’!
      Yes, lots of offers from companies - dozens of them. Most not appropriate for gardeners - there was one which was offering me a back massager - I dismissed it out of hand but now I’m thinking perhaps, it’s a maybe - particularly after weeding! 😂
      Lovely camellia - lot’s of ericaceous everything for it!
      It just wouldn’t be your garden without a ‘😱’ weather forecast 😆

      I do think vermiculite is a great medium for cuttings as they won’t rot and it does encourage roots. However I left them too long without any nutrients. Some shrubs do ‘take’ better than others. We’ll do some Summer cuttings which have a higher success rate.

    Hi Paul,
    I remember that video where you took those hard wood cuttings.
    Nice to see the results.
    Last year I bought rooting powder and took cuttings of my lavender, flowering current and other plants.
    The flowering current sadly didn't make it in the end.
    Probably because I took the cuttings in februari.
    Next time I will do in October or November.
    From a local blackthorn, 1 out of 4 only rooted, 1 out of 2 hawthorn and 2 our of 3 elderberry.
    I have them all in a mix of compost and that white, fluffy stuff (don't know the name at the moment)
    Those water butts look lovely.
    In the new garden I don't have one yet, but next year I will invest in one.
    Best regards, Titia

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  Год назад +1

      Hi Titia, yes - get a water butt, they are so useful and brilliant for the ericaceous plants.
      You did well with your cuttings successes - particularly with hardwood cuttings many don’t make it but as long as some do it’s a success and inspires the following year’s efforts.
      Are you going to try softwood cuttings this Summer of the hydrangeas? That’s fun and often many ‘take’

    • @titiaswildlifecottagegarden
      @titiaswildlifecottagegarden Год назад

      @@paultsworld I'm not sure if I'm going to take cuttings from hydrangeas. I just put the hydrangea from my friend in the ground, it doesn't looks alive to be honest. I didn't realised I needed to water that tub quite often. But the foxgloves where doing fine.
      I will wait for later this year or next year's spring to see if it will do something.
      If not, then I want to buy a bright, pink coloured lace cap hydrangea as a replacement.
