Gaz has great screen presence, it was a great review. I mean, really. I rarely watch a reviews of something I don't want beyond 5 minutes. Here, it was over 15 minutes before I skipped a bit. The guy got me for over 15 minutes in a review of something I don't need or want, just because he's interesting. And he's got a really good musical angle at things, very practical. Top reviewer I've seen.
Thanks for this Gaz! The Launchpad Pro deserves serious consideration for me. The added midi really makes it viable as a stand alone controller! Great stuff!
Great demo Gaz! The polyphonic aftertouch is particularly exciting. Looking forward to what people do with the open API and if any templates become available for Bitwig.
Gaz seems like the guy who trips up over your tent a 7 in the morning at a festival and you ended up sniffing Ket and having morning Tea with around your fire !
Excellent in depth review! Seemed to me like you covered all the bases. Looks like they've really thought this one through, though as a Push user, i'm not impressed with the note mode. There's so much more they could've done with it, and the transposing strikes me as kinda dumb. Pretty much all other functions make perfect use of the available resources. The velocity sensitive "faders" are particularly clever. While ultimately still a "fix" for the lack of real faders and/or knobs, as backpack-fodder i can really see the point of not having pots or faders sticking out. And that's probably the point, they're aiming to make a cheap, light Push that's much easier to toss in a pack and go. For the MIDI on mini jack dongle, i agree. When there's actually room for proper MIDI DINs, it makes no sense. But i'd rather have the dongle than no MIDI at all. And with this there _is_ room, so not good enough in my book. Personally, i think they're about 60% of the way to "replicating" the Push they so desparately wanna steal market shares from. And it's about 60% of the price, so i guess that's all good and well. I don't like the way they've implemented note mode, and i'd really miss the step sequencing. There's ofc quite a few other minor details where the Push is more elaborate, and keeps your head out of the computer more of the time. But if they bring those 2 major points up closer to Push with a software update, then they got a *real hit* on their hands! Untill then i think most people that can afford the Push, will still go that way unless the size/weight means a lot. I know i'll keep dragging my Push along for the ride.
For anyone watching this now, Launchpad Pro now DOES have "in key" modes, like the Push (32 of them, actually) ... this was effected by way of a firmware update (in 2016, I think). Makes it better than the Push 1 in all respects, except for the lack of a screen (sample editing on it, etc), really.
thinking about gettin a launchpad pro and a midi keyboard... or should i just get push 2? i use fl studio and ableton depending on what im making... which the launchpad and midi keyboard would both work for...i dont own ableton yet so i would also have that to buy if i bought the push 2... but i also really like the push 2.. suggestions?
Great review as usual Gaz! Is it possible to control more than one synth using a midi interface like the iConnectivity mio10? Can we also do program changes? Is it possible to save multiple midi clips like in the ableton session view? ==> That would mean being able to get rid of the laptop for live performance one and for all.. .
When demonstrating your own pad configuration while using the drum rack, were you actually in "user" mode? It seems that, when otherwise using note mode for a drum rack, it configures automatically to a 16 button block layout. Thanks in advance for any help in the matter. =)
im new to launchpad pro can someone help me plz? although i watched the get started video that novation provides, i still dont know how to put track on the midi tap in Ableton live, there is no sound when i drag a file in the midi colum there is no sound when i tap the key pad on the launchpad
I found this on another video: Get the Subsequencely app for a sequencer! So apparently, this Launchpad Pro allows you to add functionality - even program your own stuff. Very cool!
I want use this as an external sequencer for any midi keyboard. What I mean is, play my music on the keyboard and have this device store the midi information so it can play back on the original or any keyboard. is that possible?
Yeah I dunno what is up with making connectors smaller and smaller (*cough-Apple-*cough), why make a connector that is even more prone to being dislodged?
+Cihan Kenar I was too,but then I relized after messing around, pro is actually better,if u watch novations review,in my opinion I think it put push to shame, when when I got the pro I figured out it has every feature push has almost, the only things I didn't find was the sampling feature where u cut samples strait from push, but the cutting samples is no easier doin it on the push than the computer,to me the Launchpad pro is a lighter more portable and cheaper version of push without taking away its features, one thing I like to add is push, even push 2,doesnt have a stand alone feature(where u save samples in the pro and disconnect from the computer and can still play wats on the Launchpad)yet pro does,so decision is yours but honestly push is really not needed in my opinion
+teekanne15 I think they're at a disadvantage with this because it has no knobs. It would have been cool if they had knobs all around the device, so you could map them as you please.
you can power it by usb alone as well without needing to lug around the power cable. its also a bit smaller than the push so its better for bringing around places
No actually - you can use it as a standalone MIDI controller in a hardware synth only setup - with no computers involved. You just use the MIDI breakout cables to connect to the MIDI in on the synth you want to control. I am getting one for this very purpose! I think this is the best feature of Launchpad Pro, and is what separates it from Push. If you work out of the box, and want a grid based controller, this is the way to go.
"DIN plugs make a nice positive connection"? You're kidding right? They were and still are, dreadful and were dropped by the audio industry many moons ago for carrying audio due to the poor connectivity offered by the small diameter pins and the fact that they didn't (as standard) latch. God alone knows why a 5 pin connector like a 5 pin DIN was chosen for MIDI which only needs 3 connections. RIP 5-pin DIN, long live the 3.5mm stereo jack.
I'm always psyched when there's a new Gaz review.
+foodforthegods yeah me 2.. love his enthusiasm
Gaz that was an exceptionally good overview
And you're bang on about them minijacks!

Gas this is an awesome overview! Love that you demonstrated that we can use this as a controller directly into a synth like the Roland JD-XA!
THATS how u do a review
ablo español xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDdd
For some reason, I totally love that this guy's name is Gaz Williams.
There's an open source sequencer and more update called Subsequencely, perfect for no computer setups.
shoutout to Gaz for being the fucking bomb
fantastic review, thx! i sold my launchpad S because it lacked many vital functions, for example undo. great to see it implemented here.
Thanks for this Gaz! The Launchpad Pro deserves serious consideration for me. The added midi really makes it viable as a stand alone controller! Great stuff!
Thank you for pointing out that this can operate as a stand alone device!
Great demo Gaz!
The polyphonic aftertouch is particularly exciting.
Looking forward to what people do with the open API and if any templates become available for Bitwig.
Very entertaining review. Great job Gaz!
Gaz seems like the guy who trips up over your tent a 7 in the morning at a festival and you ended up sniffing Ket and having morning Tea with around your fire !
I was smiling the whole review. Such a great, lovable guy! :) The LaunchPad PRO ain't half bad either...
Great Review Gaz!
launchpad... PRO! haha that intro cracks me up
Hello,
would like to know if in "note mode" you can choose scales ?
thx
Gaz seems to be such a cool man. Great review!

Kieren Moore exactly, I’ve got my push right now but my buddy is buying it and I’m getting a launchpad it’s amazing
Is there any setup like setting up the sounds or can you just plug in and start playing with no configuration
17:30 for polyphonic aftertouch :)

I couldn't care less about this device, but great presentation, Gaz, very entertaining!
Do I need any audio interface if I have launchpad pro and ableton live to make songs and use it for making as a dj
Great review!
How well does it work with FLSTUDIO 11.x.x?

Hey dude, how’d you get that ‘heavy’ guitar type sound at around 14:00? Cheers mate.
so with the price being so much lower than the push ...
LP Pro or Push ?
who else loves that new launch pad smell?
Love the LED pad lighting......But is there a mode that lets you play 'Connect 4' ?
Can you give me more details on how you progrmmed user mode (16:00), a link for the manual for the launchpad pro and how the midi in/ out port works?
When demonstrating your own pad configuration while using the drum rack, were you actually in "user" mode? It seems that, when otherwise using note mode for a drum rack, it configures automatically to a 16 button block layout. Thanks in advance for any help in the matter. =)

Do i have to be a tech genious to use one of these? I dont know how to do any computer stuff and i just want to download tracks on it and play them?
Does This work with studio one 3 artist?
Roland Boutique please!!
Love the purple curtain background.....I imagine the camera panning around, and there's a sofa and a dancing midget, talking in reverse about MIDI
how does this work with garage band, can i assign drums, synths etc on the pad like ableton does?
Have you an answer now?
Ok Gaz. After your first 6 words, I was instantly in love with your voice XD
You can have the step sequencer like the push on the launchpad pro?
I found this on another video: Get the Subsequencely app for a sequencer! So apparently, this Launchpad Pro allows you to add functionality - even program your own stuff. Very cool!
Is Abelton only available on Macs or Apple products?
It works with both Windows and Mac (in case you haven't gotten your answer yet).
Can't wait for my birthday😍😍
I like your videos Gaz. have you done the Pioneer XDJ Rekordbox I think it would be a good reveiw. Z
I want use this as an external sequencer for any midi keyboard. What I mean is, play my music on the keyboard and have this device store the midi information so it can play back on the original or any keyboard. is that possible?
Get the Subsequencely app for a sequencer on this device.
Sir... How to setup launchpad pro and how to make light effects patch
gaz should i upgrade to launchpad pro (from a mini)
Does it work well with Bitwig(if at all)?
do these work in logic pro x or have they made one that works in logic pro x
JOSEPH, Look at something like Nektar Panorama P4
God damn you look majestic. Thanks for the tutorial
Gaz is great! :)
So next you're gonna review a clavinet from 2000bc or sth?
Billy Connolly... is that you?
Yeah I dunno what is up with making connectors smaller and smaller (*cough-Apple-*cough), why make a connector that is even more prone to being dislodged?
Can you use launchpad mk2 or pro on Windows 10
GAME BASE ofcourse u can
I'm comparing this guy to morgan freeman.
Nice Robert Plant shirt.
How about comparing this to Ableton Push? I/m trying to choose between the two, would this offer anything that the Push couldnt do?
The Push is much more advanced, but the Pro is more affordable and portable.

Didn't know one of the Hairy Bikers was an audiophpile
thanks
This guy is like the music version of Bob Ross lol
It seems like a capable tool, but I don't get what the advantage over the Ableton Push is. The pads seem cool, but a few knobs would have been handy
+teekanne15 I think they're at a disadvantage with this because it has no knobs. It would have been cool if they had knobs all around the device, so you could map them as you please.
+teekanne15 MIDI Assignable, Stand-alone, Cheaper.
you can power it by usb alone as well without needing to lug around the power cable. its also a bit smaller than the push so its better for bringing around places
how much is it?
kuah ping sheng $300
But whear do u get one and whot is the cost of one?
lmgtfy.com/?q=buy+launchpad+pro
Launchpad pro is £203 mk2 is £139 get it off amazon.com or uk
Do u have to have a computer?

12 minutes in and all I've learned is that the Ableton Push is much better with extra functionality.
what if I never had a launchpad and no clue from making music. Is it worth it then?
Stuff Channel ure like me rn
Any tips 4 me since ure comment was 1 year ago?
to me, I would start with a cheap Launchpad, like a Launchpad mini from amazon, then if you enjoy, go up to the Launchpad mk2, then Launchpad pro.
could i plug the ass station2 into and use polyfonic ( don't know what the spelling is)
I like you :D
Push 2 is so far ahead.
