Appreciate the honest and candid perspective you shared. I've had a Legend for a few months now and have only run basic settings because my learning curve with tech sounds similar to yours
Sometimes you just have to admit that you have a little bit too much machine in your hands. Even on basic settings this one was a bit too much for me. Thanks for watching!
I bought the 900 and so far give it a A+ as I have found items in areas that I had covered many times with my 800. But I also owned the CTX 3030, sounds like the Manticore might have some of the same complex setups and programs. I sold the CTX after 2 years of frustration. Figured I will not live long enough to master that machine. I just want to dig stuff!
I'm still learning my 800. I don't get out as often as I'd like to. For what I do the 600 would have done me well but I did not want to upgrade for a while. You will love your 900. Looking forward to seeing what you find with it.
Nice to hear your honest review, Had a Nox 800 and from what I see the 900 is a similar machine just better water proofing and nicer features and probably almost as deep for a lot cheaper, The Manticore is struggling for some with iron faulting for a fair few people and hope they can fix with further update. People say D2 is hard to learn the setting but it really is not and lots of videos to help people on Utube, long as your happy and comfortable with the 900 and you have to like the machine to get more out of it is what it comes down to, thanks for sharing 😎😎😎😊
The Equinox series are great machines. I can relate to your feelings about the Manticore. I just stepped up to one from the Equinox 800. It’s like going from a Corvette to a Formula 1 car. Luckily I hunt a lot so I can put the time in.
I pulled the trigger finally and got the 900! I still have both of my 800's hard to let go of... I have gone on 2 hunts so far ...i like it alot.. got to get used to the full scale vdi. Kinda wish minelab would ley you choose the scale like flip it over to the 800 vdi .. it's fine though..... I noticed a big change in the sensitivity though i had to scale back quite a bit compared to running the 800 near wide open. I will adjust! I was going to buy the Manticore... Glad i bought the 900, less to mess around with and get some detecting done!🏴☠️
I bought the Manticore and waited for the update. Which they just did. Xterra Pro can do pretty much the same thing. Just more Bells and whistles with the Manticore. Overall, with Vietnamese, it's better than the anything out there for separation. To each their own, if it's too much for someone, then go with something that's more comfortable.
I'm on the fence about moving up from my Equinox 800 to a 900. I do like the improvements on the Shaft, arm cuff, and coil ears. I've only broken the arm cuff on my 800 so far after almost 3 years of moderate use. What do you think after using the 900?
The main reason I like the 900 is the wider VDI scale. As I said in the video, I would have bought an 800 back in 2016, but didn't like the narrow scale. The 900 also has more adjustability on the iron bias. Coupled with the fact it comes with a carbon fiber shaft AND a free 6" coil, the 900 is a smart move for most 800 owners in my opinion.
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 I completely agree they aren't the same machine. I have both 800 and 900. They are similar, but an easy way to tell that the processor is better and faster is that the stock Park 1 on 800 runs 5 recovery and 900 runs 4. I can swing both at same speed and produce same results. The sensitivity goes to 28 on 900 and that adds several inches of depth to the machine. 900 also has DP tones which from what I understand, focuses more on deep signals. I'm not knocking the 800, but if someone was choosing between it and 900 for first purchase, they can't go wrong with 900. I considered the Manticore when I bought 900, but I am going to wait a year or two down the line after several updates before purchasing it. The advantage of the 800 has been that there is more videos out there on it than the Manticore. I got the 900 in early Dec 22 and have tripled the amount of rings I found in the previous 6 months with 800. Good video!!!!
Good honest evaluation, thanks for sharing. I personally didn’t buy one but felt the same thing when I saw the initial vids. This detector is a handful and I wondered how many would actually be able to get the most out this detector because of the learning curve. Hope the updates come soon for those wait for them.
i got the Nox 600 for my fisrt detector 3 years ago and then when the Deus 2 came out i had to have it .I watched a TON of videos on it before i got it ..I learned that machine before i even got it .its not that hard to learn just keep watching videos and do tests yourself that really helped me learn the machine The God 2 is a really greart machine and so light i can swing that thing all day ..
Nothing lighter than the Deus series of machines, the weight was what took me to them not going back to other machines , age and injury is a sure reason😊
HAHAHA You sound like me.. I upgraded to the Nokta Makro Legend from a White's Spectrum XLT. I just wanted a newer machine that was multi frequency and was a better beach hunting machine than a single frequency machine. But this Legend is taking me a loy of getting use to. It is getting frustrating learning all the button tasks and settings, customizing, and learning how to get that machine stable enough to hunt with. The White's I had was basically a turn on, ground valan e and go machine!!
I know for a fact that 900 of do a fabulous job on the beach but how will it make out in Arizona with all the hot rocks iron and everything else? Please be specific if you reply and thank you. If you could do a video on metal detecting with that 900 in Arizona that would be great. I'm getting ready to buy a detector and I'm looking at the Gold Monster 1000 what do you think?
I like the legend, you can just turn it on and go and do alright, the settings seem daunting at first, but after a while it can be figured out, I just wish it had words for settings instead of icons, and they have some of the setting hidden in other menus since the last update I dont really run any of the settings anyways, ground supressor, audio gain, bottle cap rejection, iron filter I run all at 0, and usually run it in all metal discrimination pattern, in 60 tone or pitch tones
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 oh you can do that on the legend too, I keep iron at 1 and the 60tones at 15 Theres a couple icons in the tone menu I'm not sure what they do, next time I get my laptop out I should pour over the instructions
What’s wrong with the Simplex? Works pretty good for me. EMI is an issue sometimes though. I get much better performance with the smaller coil. I’ll probably never buy another Nokta Makro machine again.
When it comes to being overrated I think the simplex is the very definition of it. A lot of people like it and I'm not saying it's terrible, but people just won't admit it's issues like being unstable or it's failure to give a Target ID on deeper items. It's also incapable on wet sand despite being waterproof. Like the Manticore, there's a cult-like following surrounding the Simplex. I'm one of very few to come on this platform and admit the Manticore needs some updates.
Agreed. The manticore is alot like the V3i, they look good on paper but they are notoriously complex and over complicated. Sometimes less really is more!
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 Garrett owns Whites now. They really need to do something with that technology. When Whites released the XLT in the 90's, it was light years ahead of everything on the market. The software was incredible, but the slow 90s hardware crippled it. Garrett really needs to do something incredible soon instead of putting camo lipstick on an old tired pig of a detector.
About 3 weeks before Garrett bought whites my dealer called me to tell me about it. I was really shocked because as a former AT Pro user that upgraded to an MX Sport, I knew White's was more advanced. Garrett is outdated tech, but they sure know how to market those pigs with shows like KG& Ringy and the new Duck Dynasty one.
That's a good upgrade. I went from an MX Sport. Don't be afraid to run the sensitivity as low as 15. The 900 is really sensitive & hits deep. When you pinpoint if the VDI doesn't lower it's a coin almost all the time.
I had the Equinox 800, and it was okay, but then I had leakage from the box coil issues had to send it back multiple times I ended up ordering the Legend while waiting for my Equinox to get fixed I found a Seated dime in a area that I had pounded over and over with the equinox I sold the equinox soon as I got it back I have been collecting all of my bucket list with the legend I have detected with the DS2 even the Manticore I was able to get the same targets while comparing the legend is extremely capable and I have more relics than most of my buddies so the proof is in the pudding
Interesting, sounds like my path to the Manticore. I thought the Deus ll would be a steeper learning curve than the Manticore and wasn't sure I could handle the Deus. For me at the age of 61 and having a stroke 18 months ago with hearing, cognitive and memory issues. I knew I would have to learn it like I did the Equinox. Do not always run all metal until I learn the sounds. If I didn't do it that way, man talk about a sensory overload, and then frustration and doubt would set in. What counts is that we are detecting. Good luck. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
You have to go with a machine that suits you. I have the Nox 800 and still love it but I wanted to get something waterproof. I decided to go with the Manticore (only 2 hrs on it so far) but there is a lot of new data for your brain to process so it will take time. The Nox 900 (which was also a temptation) will become a wonderful detector for you. I tend to run all metal, no real descrimination and let the tones along with the vdi tell me what is going on. Try throwing out a selection of typical targets (coins and other stuff) to get the feel of the Nox 900 tones and vdi for each of the known objects. It helps when you get out to the field to sense and hear what you are digging. Have fun!
as a long time ctx user and shoulder that does not like that weight anymore i got the manticore mainly for the beach but alas its not great in the salt i have gone back to the whites beach hunter,on land here in ozzie very mineralized ground its lets say chirpy tid on deep stuff is no where near the ctx i hope minelab do something to tidy this up ive even tried the ctx coil on but it does not see it for me the coil is too sensitive rather like a gold machine coil hope dtech or coiltech come out with a coil for it.cheers.
My Equinox has been dunked several times- no issues yet. I almost went with the Deus. I didn't like the idea of a battery & transmitter in the coil. I've heard they don't work well in the city.
I am with you not tech savvy, I have mixed feelings with the manticore. Honestly don’t know if it anything to brag about. It takes me a awhile to learn a machine so my opinion might be the right one Do what makes you happy and as long as your having fun and not getting frustrated with the machine. Then you made the right decision. Good luck
For once a Coastie agrees with a squid. Manticore is over rated. Mine lab flooded the market with the vanquish series, nox 6-900, now the exterra and manitcore. The 540 vanquish will do most anything the nox will
I wouldn't necessarily call It overrated. I hit several wheats 10" deep and a dime 12 inches deep. That's sick depth. The machine has some stability issues. The 540 is definitely a solid performer- far better than the Simplex.
@I Find Metal I got the 700 and have been hitting all my Vanquish 540 spots. I didn't miss much with the 540. It was and is a great machine. The Equinox 700 has been going deeper than the Vanquish was. I've seen it several times, pulling coins at over 12" that the vanquish missed. I really like both machines!
Except for the Iron Discrimination, the Equinox 900 has just as much learning curve as the Manticore. I haven’t got my Manticore yet, but I read the users guide of both, and I just don’t understand your reasoning. You can turn both machines on one of the search settings, ground balance and go. What is easier than that. Price wise, with the Military discount, still overpriced but if you got the 900, so shouldn’t be an issue. I know that 13 year old is going to have a ball. You still have a great machine, and I wish you the bet of luck THing.
Trust me on this, the Manticore is an entirely different animal than the 900. I had both to play with for almost 2 weeks. I was comfortable with the 900 after 2 hunts. The Manticore is extremely sensitive and can be a bit inconsistent on targets. It needs an update. Programming it for a custom coinshooting program took me an hour. I setup a custom program on my 900 in 10 minutes. Thanks for watching & best of luck to you as well!
if it's not for you it's not for you. took me a couple of days to get to grips with it using factory settings and still using the factory settings since i got the machine in early Feb, its still a new machine on the market no one knows really about what's the best setting to use, Minelab spent hundreds of hours programming the best factory settings and you already said you are not a tech guy what made you think that you know better than Minelab for the best settings. i won't change any settings until i know the machine inside out 6 months to a year then i think i can make a few tweaks. 1st couple of days the iron was a real battle but not now comes back to learning a new machine im still digging a little iron but now i already suspect from the signal it might be iron but ill still dig it just to confirm my suspicions part of the learning curve, on your closing you asked are you crazy to sell the manticore, Yep. you cant go wrong with a 900 faster machine than the 800 and updated wish you the best of luck.
If mine lab didn't want us to customize the settings they wouldn't have made it possible to do so. Not only is it possible on this machine it's almost infinitely possible! All of the settings that I changed followed programs that were developed by highly experienced detectorists. Interestingly enough, I have already tweaked just about every setting on my 900 and It performs beautifully. You are correct in saying you can't go wrong with a 900.
700? there is not a 700 right? maybe you mean the 600 or 800 .... correct me if I'm wrong ... also people are telling me the manticore is pretty ... dont know I dont own one ... I do own the 800 and The CTX thanks
I'm talking about the 900. So far, I like it much better than the Manticore. The 600 & 800 have too narrow a target ID range for my taste. Yes, there is also a 700. We got that for my wife.
all you see now is testing and comparing deus, manticore, legend,etc-wish some one would test them against some American made detectors like garret, whitens sport,mx7, etc. walk through a marked area, then go back through and see if you pick up more-with each detector-see if one is superior in depth-not sorting targets because they always say dig everything.
Well, I've got a lot of time in with the Garrett AT Pro, White's MX Sport & MX7 (same guts) and I can say with 100% honesty the Manticore & Equinox hit a lot deeper. The thing is, depth isn't necessarily the main thing that makes the modern multi frequency machines find stuff others miss- it's really their ability to sort out targets quickly. The microprocessors in them are much faster. You need that edge on gard hit or trashy sites.
@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 I am new to detecting but the first time out I hit on a 22 caliper bullit deeper than my trx is long-maybe 12 inches deep- find little staples [for fence wire I guess] -6-7 inches deep, tiny bit of foil etc-and I am old hard of hearing and don't know what I am doing-thanks for answering my question-just wondering if these new detectors are much better for all the money they cost.
The Deus II is the way to go. The factory programs are excellent. With a little tweaking your good to go. I’m not impressed with the quality of Minelab. I’ve got the Deus II and the Minelab Equinox 800. I’ve had numerous issues with the Minelab Equinox 800. If you can afford the Deus II I’d highly recommend it. Ended up with the Equinox 900. Money isn't a big issue, and I may end up trying the Deus as well. It seems Minelab addressed the issues the 800 had when they produced the 700 & 900.
I’m a veteran metal detectorist and I must say I have never been impressed with the Manticore. I currently run a few Nokta Legends and love the machine. Try throwing out a selection of typical targets (coins and other stuff) to get the feel of the Nox 900 tones and vdi for each of the known objects. It helps when you get out to the field to sense and hear what you are digging. Have fun!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
as a long time ctx user and shoulder that does not like that weight anymore i got the manticore mainly for the beach but alas its not great in the salt i have gone back to the whites beach hunter,on land here in ozzie very mineralized ground its lets say chirpy tid on deep stuff is no where near the ctx i hope minelab do something to tidy this up ive even tried the ctx coil on but it does not see it for me the coil is too sensitive rather like a gold machine coil hope dtech or coiltech come out with a coil for it.cheers.
It's definitely not a CTX. I do think Minelab will address the issues. Thank you for watching!
With you man. OTT. Way OTT. BS baffling brains!
For real!
Should've went to the Deus II. Its easy to set up, lightnig fast and superior depth. Plus it wont leak
It takes me a awhile to learn a machine so my opinion might be the right one
Do what makes you happy and as long as your having fun and not getting frustrated with the machine. Then you made the right decision. Good luck
Thanks for watching brother!
80% of the bells and whistles on these New machines I don't use
Thanks for watching!
No it won’t
Thanks for watching!
How much you want
Watch the video & you'll know!
May I suggest nokta legend next time
A lot of people like that machine.
i wish the legends vdi went up to 99
It doesn't? I didn't know that. For the price I guess that shouldn't surprise me though.
I like my simplex +
That's a very popular machine! Thanks for watching.
I just bought the Gray Ghost Uni-Probe that pairs up with the Deus II. Boy I like it. I saw it in use on the RUclips channel Detector Comparisons.
Ended up with the Equinox 900. Money isn't a big issue, and I may end up trying the Deus as well. It seems Minelab addressed the issues the 800 had when they produced the 700 & 900.
Simple is better
Absolutely! Appreciate your support & letting me post content in your group 🙂
Nexus MP V3 much better far superior
Never heard of that one.
I’m a veteran metal detectorist and I must say I have never been impressed with the Manticore. I currently run a few Nokta Legends and love the machine. Difficulty is not an issue for me, I’m just not easily impressed with the price even though money isn’t an issue. Wow if you think this detector is difficult you should had tried the Whites V3I lol
THE V3i was way ahead of it's time!
There aren't a whole lot of things you got a mess with on the equinox. Adjust the emi and that's pretty much it
The 900 really impressed me the other night. I've tweaked it a little, but it definitely is great right out of the box.
Dude, I love my Grand maws beautiful Singer sewing machine in the background. I remember as kid when she would ask me to fix it for her at times. I own the Nox 800 and the CTX3030 and the Excalibur II, Ill wait for the next release of the Manticore. Not buying it.
Honestly, I think it'll be great when Minelab updates it. I'm sticking with my Nox 900.
The Sewing machine belongs to my wife- it's a 1906. Fully functional!
80% of the bells and whistles on these New machines I don't use
Right!
