Ortho-K affects the epithelium of the cornea which is not structural. Years ago we studied the effect of this procedure on Ortho-K and it wasn't able to affect the epithelium. This procedure is effective for the deeper structural layers of the cornea which is the reason it works for Keratoconus.
Last week i had surgery on my right eye , which was keratoconus eye transplant , first 2 days were very painful i was very sensitive to light and couldn't open my eye much.but i got use to it i don't feel no pain anymore only when i accidently touch it .. you have to be very protective! and i do still see blurry but i realize that as each day passes my vision is getting very good , so i'd say its Worth it bud. :)
i have keratoconus...it hit me when i was 16 years of age I'm now 22 and i have had about 4 operations in 6 years ...i had to get a cornea transplant i still have one eye to go but believe me when i say it is worth it to yourself ...we only get one life So make it a good one
Thank you for sharing. A cornea transplant is a last resort as you mentioned. Fortunately it sounds like you had a good result. Dr. Brian's modern Keratoconus treatments like Holcomb C3-R and Intacs can eliminate the need for people to have transplants.
thank you! this guy really inspires me. i have just been diagnosed with this recently and even though, I am just on beginner stage, keractoconus progresses fast & while its progressing, whatever im doing is giving me an eye strain which gives me difficulty to read sometimes. doctors cant save my night vision for now because i rejected contact lenses. only have to keep changing spectacles for now and wear sunglasses at night since my night vision are worse and i keep seeing glare. if im called up for a procedure i think i should be brave and ready by now. ive been suffering with this for nearly 4 months and i can feel how devastating it is sometimes. yes, its true that we may panic if our vision can almost be gone. seeing grey coloured things are a sign.
Atikah M Atikah, Dr. Brian's Holcomb C3-R can stop your Keratoconus from progressing and save you from needing a cornea transplant. Please find more details about Holcomb C3-R here: www.keratoconusinserts.com/c3-r-cxl-crosslinking.html
I got diagnosed with keratoconus today, I have never worn contacts or glasses before , I am 20 years old and just 2 years ago I got my eyes checked and had 20/20 vision. My vision has been a little blurry these last couple months so I got them checked out to find I have keratoconus earlier today. I am afraid my parents won't be able to afford the cross linking procedure. I am scheduled to see a specialist soon and will find out more. Very informative video, thanks.
Brent if you just were diagnosed, you are in the fortunate position of probably not having alot of vision loss yet from Keratoconus. Please see about Holcomb C3-R procedure that can non-invasively stop Keratoconus from getting worse. The procedure has only a 1 day recovery and is 99.3% effective with a single treatment. www.keratoconusinserts.com/c3-r-cxl-crosslinking.html
This is helpful and encouraging. I was diagnosed with this back in April, I admit this is still frustrating and a bit depressing right now. It did take 3 visits in 4 weeks to my doctor before they finally did a topography scan and confirmed this issue (seeing double, terrible glare especially driving at night - I STILL do not drive at night) The glasses I wear with the new RX lens ...these for some reason I can't figure out, the optical office cannot get this right (I went to the specialist...not a chain store like LensCrafters or PearlVision). Now currently on my 3rd trial toric contact for my right eye, regular for my left (the left eye I can see perfectly clear) ..on week 2 with these and it's still not perfect yet...better but not 100% sharp. Doctor feels confident I can get away with this toric lens...trying to avoid the gas permeable due to that is "can be very uncomfortable" At this point I'll do the GP lens...can't be much worse than the thicker toric lens..I can feel that in my eye as well - just as long as I can see! And if this sounds like a mess..4 months back and forth with this, yeah I think so too. I think I have to find a new doctor..not a massive office with 5 doctors, 10+ staff members...I feel like people are moved in and out like cattle. (I guess this is how many offices are now, very impersonal) I had a great eye doctor for 20+ years but he retired in 2008.
Glad you received the correct diagnosis. You can learn about how to stop your keratoconus from getting worse here: keratoconusinserts.com/c3-r-cxl-crosslinking/
This is so encouraging. I've been dealing with keratoconus, well actually pellucid, for 20 years. I do not yet qualify for a transplant...but the vision impairment is so challenging. I notice it most when driving at night and when trying to read. Every few days, I need to take a break from my contact lens (I wear only one because my other eye is just beyond repair). As a single mom of four kids, "taking a break" lol is not really an option. I have to drive them to their activities every night.
Hi my email is rehamahmed26@yahoo.com I need to contact you for the problem of my son He is 10 years suffer from optic nerve atropy from born and from motherside I really suffers from my son all these years 10 years his vision is so low 60 over 6 Is there any sollution for him Please help
When it comes too my eyes, money is not an issue. I just want to get back to seeing in "HD" (High Defintion) again without wearing any contacts or glasses. I hope there is a solution. Having good visiion is going to be vital for my future career field. I live in San Diego Thank you
@Spikey1990Mikey Thanks for sharing your experience Mikey. We hope more doctors will start informing their patients of these less invasive options that are available (and have been for the last 9 years)
I was diagnosed with Keratoconus when I was in tenth grade. I am 18 now and am currently being fit for very large gas permeable lenses. So far I have had no luck. My left eye has a corneal scar in my visual axis and is now lazy. My right eye has very minimal bulging and can still be treated with traditional soft lenses.
I suffee from keratoconus and i had to stop working as a pharmacy technician, now in food service because i cant do what i love. I couldn't see tje screen, i cant get my license back to drive. Its very rough.
you can learn more about these treatments which can help you restore your vision; please call the office 310-860-1900 or email info@boxerwachler.com; treatments can be performed over 3 days in our office
I've had this for over ten years, lost many jobs, lost many activities with my kids, I have hit a big depression, the only thing that keeps me from actually going with suicide are my children, they don't deserve that in their lives, my last job didn't have vision benefits, I am really hanging on to faith here, but I need to support my family, I can't even help my daughter with homework, I feel useless, and that's when the suicidal thoughts begin,
wow I have this problem & I never knew I could get this I had a corneal transplant in my eye & I was legally blind but it improving is this treatment available in australia
I live in the uk and i recently had cross linking on my left eye, it has not "cured" the condition but they said it would stop it from progressively getting worse. ...
Thanks so much for posting this as of today ive learned ive been living with this for a couple years also. Always thought i just needed glasses. My dr. mentioned so other treatment but i will mention this next time i see him.
I tried calling but your office is closed now. The Dr who operated me did not yse the Holcomb C3-R procedure. He just inserted the intacs and thats it.
Hi im in the UK I have severe kerataconus with scarring and have been told that a transplant is my only option because the Lenses are hurting and can't be worn for long x I have vision to a point of three fingers can you help me x
In 2010 I was operated by Dr. Rodriguez Lara in Tijuana, Mexico. He inserted the intacs /kera rings from Brazil in my eyes. Three years later my vision improved but I still need to wear the hard contact lenses. No way I will wear those things in my eyes again. Had my experience with them before the surgery. My question is can the Holcomb C-3R improve my vision ? The hard contact lenses improve my vision to 20/30 on both eyes but they are very uncomfortable. Believe me
Can you recommend someone in New York Dr. Boxer? I am 26 and have had a Corneal Transplant on my left eye but I still can't see out of it, it's all melted wax figures. and my right eye continues to get worse, I need to consult with someone who specializes in this but I have no insurance.
I've been blind in my left eye since birth. However, a few years back I was diagnosed with Keratoconus in my right eye. I was fitted withe gas permeable lens, and it improved my vision to the point of being able to drive and work. I struggle with the lens, and can only wear it for a a few hours a day due to discomfort. Ive talked to my dr about a transplant, but he says its a bad idea. Is this a safe procedure? Would it be worth the risk of being completely blind if something went wrong?
I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS TREATMENT TO CURE MY EYES HOW CAN I GET IN TOUCH WHIT THIS DOCTOR CAUSE I HAVE KERATOCONUS THANK YOU VERY MUCH CAUSE IM NOT LIVE IN US
Michael, Thank you for your comment. It can be scary when you are first diagnosed. We can very likely help with the Holcomb C3-R treatment. Please call the office 310-860-1900 and the staff can provide you with information about how it can help you.
I went to Wills Eye in Philadelphia and Eye Associates in Vineland NJ for my keratoconus, and the consensus was for me to wear a soft lens with a gas-permeable hard lens piggy-backed on top of it in both eyes. I'm having a major problem getting used to the lenses, as well as inserting them and removing them. My eyelid wants to close shut every time I try to get the lenses in my eye, and I can't force them to stay open. Maybe it's some phobia in my subconscious or something. Plus, the soft lens is so small, you can't feel it or see it when it's soaking in the solution. I had to have the nurse help me to insert and remove them. Suffice it to say, I'm very frustrated over this. I'm tempted to look into this Holcomb procedure, especially if it means avoiding any invasive procedure, including wearing lenses.
I too have to wear the piggy back lens. There is a new hybird lens that is a hard lens in the middle with a soft lens skirt, still a little expensive but well worth it, There is a Doctor near me doing this cross-linking procedure and what they do not tell you is that it is still in experimental stages so at this point no insurances will cover it. It was going to be around the ballpark of 3,500, depending on how bad your cornea is they may or may not be able to add the lens in. so wearing a contact may still be necessary. check this out it may help www.synergeyes.com/locator/results_details.php?id=105469&dist=
dennis martin how much more comfortable would you say the these hybrid ones are compared to regular rgp hard contacts? I could see how these may feel more comfortable for some! I just hate that I cannot even even barely touch my eye without my rgp lenses moving all around!
You can send a copy of your most recent eye exam and color cornea maps (topography) to our office for Dr. Brian to review. He can make a preliminary determination if the insertable lens would be a good option for you info@boxerwachler.com or call the staff for more info 310-860-1900
I am living in jamaica and been living with keratoconus for the past eight years .It is challenging because people at time react to u as being blind. I am unable to get accept on staff were I work even though I an qualified for the job I feel I have to work twice as hard to get notice by management,it is so depressin for me not being able to afford this treatment so is there any way the cost for treatment be paid on a monthly or quartly basis
ives had both my corneas done. last one was about a year and a half ago, and the first was seven years ago. both went perfectly for me, my specialist only recommended a transplant as a last resort, preferring me to wear contacts. in the end my eye angle was too bad for contacts, which led to surgery being my only option at the time. after the surgery and some time i now wear glasses(not that i mind, i can see. i can read nearly all the letters). it should be a last resort.
I really wish you worked in Georgia ugh. I'm suppose to get a examination by a eye surgeon soon I just pray my surgeon is as awesome as you are because I want the best. I'm tired of having to see the way I do and those hard lense contact are aggravating ugh.
Lakeshia, you can learn more at www.KeratoconusInserts.com. Also many people like yourself fly here for an easy 3-day trip from Georgia too to have their Keratoconus treated.
You would need to be evaluated to see if you are a candidate for Intacs. Dr. Brian routinely performs complimentary chart reviews. If that is of interest to you, please call 310-860-1900.
I'm from China, I was diagnosed with keratoconus 4 years ago, I got cornea transplant on right eye and got the painful cross-linking on the left. But recently my eyesight get worse again. Is it still possible to get C3R? I am depressed and hopeless. I'm so scared of being blind.
Unfortunately other forms of crosslinking are not as effective at Holcomb C3-R. Many people fly from China for the easy, 3-day trip to have their Keratoconus stabilized. More information is here keratoconusinserts.com/c3-r-cxl-crosslinking/
It's only available at Dr. Brian's office in Beverly Hills. We routinely treat people who fly in from the East Coast. If you would like information about that, please call the office 310-860-1900.
Brian Boxer Wachler Hi Dr Boxer Wachler! Does your business accept vision insurance! I have karatconus in my right eye since i was 14 yrs old and it’s been a struggle for me to see clearly! But i know realize there is hope with your new cure!
anybody know how much this is with insurance? im lucky enough to live life normally for now.... but this is probably going to be an option for me in the future ( just in one eye by the way )
My keratoconus is like whack a mole i get corneal transplant on right eye left eye go bad i get left done right eye go bad now i need a new corneal transplant again, I'm sick of all this i really hope this guy could take my insurance.
Many people use medical financing for Dr. Brian's Keratoconus treatments that makes it affordable with easy monthly payments. Please call Dr. Brian's office for more information about it at 310-860-1900.
no offense, but do not blame the doctor. for what I've learned is that we can never know when the progression of the keractoconus can be stopped, it may take decade or sometimes even forever when in my case, its weird how optometrist or doctors says can "never" be heal so this is a mystery to us whose been diagnosed. the point of treatment is to safe us from being blind and to slow down or arrest the progression. i am still in confusion as well. i know this guy inspires and motivates me but keractoconus is such a doubt for solution. no kidding and this guy is the only person that can keep us positive.
Hi i m from india i have keratoconus in my both eyes for last 13 years in left eye it's more progressive and in right eye is little bit less. I had c3r in 2008 after that i really struggled and even couldn't wear rgp lenses which i was comfortable wearing before c3r.. Now i dont know what to do can u plz help me really struggling in my life
We routinely treat people with your degree of Keratoconus. If you would like Dr. Brian to review your records to see if you are a candidate, please call the office at 310-860-1900.
From my research, all the other offices that offer "Cross Linking" scrape the surface of the eye and can be very painful. Dr. Brian's proceedure is non invasive and his response time is awesome. I didn't experience any pain and I was able to get an apointment quickly (within 2 weeks). Waiting weeks for a consultation and months for a proceedure is rediculous especially for a progressive condition - waiting is common for a lot of other eye speciallists. Dr. Brian's staff is very accomodating and has the patieint in mind at all times. THANKS DR. BRIAN!!!
The good news is Dr. Brian is one of the world's experts in Keratoconus and he can likely help you. And alot of people use a monthly financing option which can be as low as a few hundred dollars a month. For further information on options to help your Keratoconus, please call his office at 310-860-1900. Thank you.
There are options available as shown in this news story that can help you. We understand Keratoconus can lead to depression. Please call Dr. Brian's office for information on how you can be helped at 310-860-1900. Thank you.
There is hope if you have tge money for it it cost about $10, 000 for the procedure I know the condition and cant afford it and it sucks very bad it takes away from the things you can do and want to do or be it's heart breaking....sigh

Michelle Erickson for privacy, you can "message" us your phone number for Dr. Brian's staff to call to discuss how you can be helped.
Unfortunately that will not be able to concentrate the riboflavin in the cornea and the special light also won't be available to activate it.
The goal of Holcomb C3-R is to stabiize keratoconus. In some cases, vision can improve too.

It was going to be around the ballpark of 3,500, depending on how bad your cornea is they may or may not be able to add the lens in. so wearing a contact may still be necessary. check this out it may help

if you would like Dr. Brian to do a complimentary records review, please call the office for information about it at 310-860-1900. Thank you.
put the Contact on the whites of your eye then slide it to pupil.
dennis martin how much more comfortable would you say the these hybrid ones are compared to regular rgp hard contacts? I could see how these may feel more comfortable for some! I just hate that I cannot even even barely touch my eye without my rgp lenses moving all around!
I had cross linking done but very much interested to know about inserted lense, I was adviced to use hard contact lense but I struggle with lenses
You can send a copy of your most recent eye exam and color cornea maps (topography) to our office for Dr. Brian to review. He can make a preliminary determination if the insertable lens would be a good option for you info@boxerwachler.com or call the staff for more info 310-860-1900
How does it cure it? I mean what if it’s already pretty advanced, does it bring the cornea back?
It can help for advanced stages
@@DrBoxerWachler Key word "help" - not get cornea vision acuity back totally

I`ve had 2 cornea transplants, am I a good candidate still?
ives had both my corneas done. last one was about a year and a half ago, and the first was seven years ago. both went perfectly for me, my specialist only recommended a transplant as a last resort, preferring me to wear contacts. in the end my eye angle was too bad for contacts, which led to surgery being my only option at the time. after the surgery and some time i now wear glasses(not that i mind, i can see. i can read nearly all the letters). it should be a last resort.
Does anybody know if inusrance covers this? How much it costs?
I really wish you worked in Georgia ugh. I'm suppose to get a examination by a eye surgeon soon I just pray my surgeon is as awesome as you are because I want the best. I'm tired of having to see the way I do and those hard lense contact are aggravating ugh.
Lakeshia, you can learn more at www.KeratoconusInserts.com. Also many people like yourself fly here for an easy 3-day trip from Georgia too to have their Keratoconus treated.
Can I get emailed prices on how much the procedure will range that way I can budget and save to stay for a day or two there
You would need to be evaluated to see if you are a candidate for Intacs.
Is cxl a one time procedure or needs to be repeated??

no offense, but do not blame the doctor. for what I've learned is that we can never know when the progression of the keractoconus can be stopped, it may take decade or sometimes even forever when in my case, its weird how optometrist or doctors says can "never" be heal so this is a mystery to us whose been diagnosed. the point of treatment is to safe us from being blind and to slow down or arrest the progression. i am still in confusion as well. i know this guy inspires and motivates me but keractoconus is such a doubt for solution. no kidding and this guy is the only person that can keep us positive.
Can anyone get intacs? I want to wear contacts but my eyes are really sensitive!! With contacts my vision is 20/40!

Fantastic
This procedure is called Cross-linking and can be done in majority of the Eye clinics all around the world.
THANKS DR. BRIAN!!!
I wish I could afford it I need the treatment bad I have had keratoconus for almost 9yrs now I fear losing my eye sight
