- Brett Gray was going blind as a result of KERATOCONUS, the degenerative eye condition. More information at www.KeratoconusInserts.com. He was treated with the revolutionary Holcomb C3-R by its inventor, Brian Boxer Wachler, MD, found of the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute. After the procedure which dramatically improved Brett's vision, he and his dad, Tony joined Dr. Brian on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Sochi Olympics. They were there to cheer for Steven Holcomb, the American bobsledder for whom the C3-R treatment is named. (The cornea image from 1:17 to 1:26 is from Luciano Bastos, Instituto de Olhos Dr. Saul Bastos (IOSB) winner of the 2009 BCLA photographic competition in Manchester, UK.)

Amanda Susneros Amanda, yes Dr. Brian can help you. Pregnancy can make Keratoconus progress even faster. Please call Dr. Brian's office at 310-860-1900 for more information about how you can be helped.
This was me for sure. I had the transplant done in 2005 and I did it for my son because I couldn't see his face without those horrible gas permeable lenses. Now I'm considering the cross linking procedure for my left eye. Very Inspiring and Thanks for Sharing!
I am 20. I was diagnosed at the age of 12 and its progressed a lot. We started talking about crosslinking when I was 15. We have never been able to do it due to cost and the fact insurance wont cover it.
But its nice to see someone benefiting from it though.
We offer monthly plans through www.GoAlphaeon.com Payments around $200 month also there are sometimes financial assistance from non-profits; please contact our office to learn more info@boxerwachler.com or 310-860-1900
Hi Dr. Brian. I just saw your video and really hope to meet you one day. Been diagnosed with keratoconus for the past 10 years and have been using hard contact lenses but never seem to get used to it plus it's so painful considering all the dust in my country Ghana. I hard to switch to glasses(which corrects my vision Just about 40%) because I couldn't take the pain any longer. Hopefully I will get to see again when we meet. I'm a medical student too and want to be an ophthalmologist, you have really inspired me. God bless you!
Thank you for your comment. You can learn more about keratoconus treatments at www.KeratoconusInserts.com. All the best with your career!

Thank you for your kind words.
wow and I Am 50 and was diagnosed in college. My left eye is worse than my right. My right is still mild. I am not gonna complain. God bless him
We treat many patients in their 50's, 60's and 70's. Dr. Brian developed these treatments to help improve the quality of vision in contacts/glasses, reverse some of the damage from Keratoconus and stop any further vision loss. Keratoconus continues to progress. While often it can slow down once a patient gets into their 40/s and 50's, it still progresses slowly. You can email a copy of your last eye exam along with color maps to info@boxerwachler.com Dr. Brian will review and provide treatment options. You can contact our staff to learn more via phone: 310-860-1900
I found out I had Kertaconus during MEPS. I wanted nothing more than to serve my country, then start my law enforcement career. I currently have excellent uncorrected vision; although, my left eye vision is a bit blurry and I'm afraid is deteriorating. I'm currently 25 and in the hiring process of a law enforcement agency. If I am kicked out of training for this, I will be completely devastated and years of schooling will be wasted. I have to stop this disease from progressing and effecting my future. I need Dr. Brian's help.

I have already had surgery on the muscles in my eyes to correct crossed eyes about ten years ago and my vision has been rapidly decreasing recently. I've had two pairs of glasses in the past two years and the ones I just got five months ago are already out dated. My contacts all refuse to stop moving around when I have them in. My doctor referred me to a specialist at a research facility for next week. She suspects that I may have keratoconus, yet I have already used up my vision benefits for the year, which is frustrating. My biggest fear is losing my independence and having to move back home on the other side of the country. I can't tell if I'm relieved that people are experiencing the same thing or sad that other people have to go through this.

Brian Boxer Wachler sir I really want to know if drinking alcohol or smoking has any adverse effect on keratoconous progression or anything harmful ?
Eagerly Waiting for your reply.
@@amarkashyap2984 there is no correlated studies on alcohol or smoking; however we believe smoking does possibly increase free radicals. Free radicals break down the collagen structure and possibly increase progression.
Brian Boxer Wachler thank you sir
Thats means drinking is totally safe if we compare the two 🤔🤘
I'm curious about the effects of keratoconus beyond the obvious astigmatism and glare. It seems like it effects the eye's entire behavior. Here's some of the other things I'm experiencing:
Sometimes focusing may create a fisheye effect and may cause minor pain/discomfort.
I constantly get double vision when focusing on near to far objects, my worse-off eye veering off my natural projection.
Object edges, much like the outer edges of night halos, appear to have a slight rainbow tint as well as a rusty texture to them.
I feel like I'm getting worse at detecting motion. It used to be somewhat difficult to rotate my head and maintain a solid projection direction, having to fixate on objects as I turn.
Afterimaging can be blinding in dim lighting and seems to act differently.
A constant tint that's easier to see in dark colors and lighting resembling what you see if you put pressure on your closed eyes.
I'd like to know if CxL and or using contacts could possibly fix any of this. Apparently glasses can't provide the correction I need in my right eye.
+Matthew Brady Matthew thank you for taking the time to detail your situation with Keratoconus. Feel free to call Dr. Brian's extremely helpful and friendly staff to answer your questions at 310-860-1900 and also visit his website www.KeratoconusInserts.com. Thank you.
i have had kerotocounus for 15yrs. i was diagnosed when i was 15 (31 now). my left eye had a very rapid progression and i recieved a transplant when i was 18 on my left eye. i am very sensitive to cold and i can feel it in my eyes. is almost like the cold air goes into your eyes. i am also very sensitive to sun light but i can tolerated is not as bad as the cold. this is my experience. it varies from person to person and on the severity of the progression. my advice is to postpone the transplant as long as posible because it IT WILL NOT CURE YOU. the doctors will not say this clearly but the transplant WILL SAVE YOUR EYE. however, to the average person once the hear that you have had a cornea transplant they will ASSUME that you are cure.
Jonathan, thank you for your post. If you are having high astigmatism after the transplant which is common, you might be interested to learn about this treatment www.keratoconusinserts.com/corneatransplant/

Hi Doc I had a cornea transplant on my left eye in 2009 and cross linking in 2010 on my right eye, but neither seem to have made a difference. I received a hard lens with the transplant but I only started to use it regularly about 6 months ago, because it would irritate me so much. There is a significant improvement in my vision wearing the lens and I think it has also flattened my cornea a bit because I a m seeing a bit better without it in my left eye now... What are your thoughts on hard lenses and do you think ill should get one for my right as well?

No. We see patients in their 60-70s that are still progressing. The rate of progression can slow down after 40, but it is a myth that it stops. Hello doc? I am hoping for a reply, i believe to have visual snow. Is there a cure or a treatment possible for this?
At this time I am not aware of any cure. Sometimes anti-depressants can help. I would suggest you see a retina doctor for a full evaluation and discuss with them possible anti-depressant treatment if they determine retina is normal and you would like possible treatment for visual snow.

Crosslinking only stops vision from worsening - it does not improve vision. Sometimes Crosslinking can be combined with other treatments to help improve the vision, however this will likely not eliminate the need for contacts or glasses. You can email your eye exam records to: info@boxerwachler.com if you are interested in coming to our office for additional treatments

We combine Intacs and CK with Cornea Collagen Crosslinking to improve the cornea structure and reduce the distorted vision. You can learn more on our website www.KeratoconusInserts.com

But i just gone through icl surgery last two months. Is it okay to go through this technique even just after going through another eye surgery?

CXL and C3R does NOT recover eyesight alone. So what surgery or treatment did you do In combination with it for your patients? As it seems fake that you actually restored their vision significantly just with this Holcombe C3R which is epi on and not epi off like CXL. This Holcombe guy is dead as well, he attempted suicide due to depression due to the keratoconus and then shortly died a few years later. This is a disgusting and cruel eye disease that steals your decent vision bit by bit. And if delayed and not early detection, diagnosis and medical intervention then it will get really bad and you'll have a shit life until its somehow managed and improved. Especially like me if you were let down by your eye hospital and opticians and not warned or informed against postponing surgery after an already delayed diagnosis. As I rely on shitty NHS Moorfields eye hospital services as I currently can still not afford expensive and rip off private eye surgeries and due to many other mental and physical health issues and other problems and reasons I made a huge mistake of delaying surgery and then it was delayed even further on 2020 due to corona virus pandemic and panic. They shouldn't have allowed me who is autistic with severe depression and anxiety to postpone my CXL surgery after a delayed diagnosis in November 2018. They and everyone and everything including myself and God all let me down big time. And I feel like I'm the only one who is suffering from the consequences of these retarded actions and regrettable mistakes. This disease is not fully researched yet and many things are still a mystery or not well known or proven yet can still improve the disease or your cornea condition. Like not rubbing your eyes and even avoiding sleeping on your sides or face and sleeping on your back instead which is a huge change for me to do and many other natural remedies and lifestyle changes. I need to know in order to get my vision back or drastically improved. This is very unfair for me as I have never really had a life yet due to all of my other health issues and birth defects and many other issues like housing issues and family problems etc. Everything is working against my heath, wellbeing and welfare. And I am not wealthy, rich people or lucky people can afford expensive surgical treatments and fancy contact lenses and glasses suitable for keratoconus sufferers. It targets young people as well up to like 45, ruining young people's lives and potential. Which is fucked up in my opinion, very cruel and unfair. If I was getting the right care and living in a better place etc and less health and other issues in general and more money or very rich I wouldn't be suffering and still struggling with this horrible disease anymore an sit would have been under control at least or would have had CXL and PRK earlier together or one afer
after the other and would still have my eyesight and ok to good vision and function more normally and efficiently in my life. This shit really makes the quality of your life very low and poor quality. And poor people should be able to receive all surgeries and treatments available for free or discounted as not only the rich or fortunate get this disease FYI and hard lenses are not suitable for everyone, I prefer surgery or glasses and prefer to avoid lenses both soft and hard all together, and improve my unaided vision as much as possible for ASAP.
I understand your frustrations. The patient in the video also had Intacs.
After KC is treated then Visian ICL in good candidates can help unaided vision.
