that has been a comment with quite a lot of drummers, which i think is to do with that if you don't write or sing, you don't get the recognition that a guy like Phil Collins got, which has been very rare. i read that he suffered some substance abuse trouble, so that may of had to do with it to.
England was overflowing with fantastic drummers in that era. Palmer, Collins, Bruford, Andy Ward from Camel, Alan White, Pip Pyle, to name only a few. And they all started as jazzers.
That opening sequence is one of the most epic things in all of Space Rock. The interaction of the steady bass, the languid synth line and the Nik's gorgeous dancing flute is magnificent and irresistible. It evolves and unfolds, surrounding the listener, opening portals of energy and vision.
Try listening to " sunrise in the third system" by Tangerine Dream. From their second album Alpha Centaury. It's kind of quiet and played back but it's spooky good.
Funny the difference: those Hawkwind days ifor us in Australia as fans were full of British clear light,Brown pyramids, camping out surfing on weekends in tents on deserted beaches, then to the cars to the tape decks for a mix of black with whites lines through it. :-)
There are many rock tracks that are worthy of an 11 on a volume knob. But there are only a few that justifiably deserve a 14 or a 15, and this is one of them. Everything in this is perfect.

Once upon a time, Simon House, Nik Turner, Lemmy Kilminster, Dave Brock and Michael Moorcock were all in the same rock band. These could not be more different individuals, yet they were able to melt together into this outstanding work.
The word "Synergy" might as well have been invented for this album, and Space Ritual. It's the end of Hawkwind at the absolute top of their form. Losing one incredibly talented individual after another (and, more importantly, what they made the band DO) is not something a band can withstand.
When I was about 12 in the 70's my 17 year old brother used to play this stuff in our bedroom at night and I used to think what a racket ,,,,,,then I listened to it and realised that this is fantastic.

Hawkwind always makes musical notes to the experience of being high. God bless them. That mellotron steals my heart.Mellotron was a magic instrument. Away with all the plastic synths.
As a Native American with some Scottish ancestors, I’d imagine this is what my folk from across the sea sounded like when they’d speak. They’re worth worth listening to.

In a far and distant past musicians were able to play there instruments really good and could make masterpieces like this. Now we are in a time that the big CEO's of even bigger record companies dictate the musicians their music should be mainstream and could only take maximum 3 minutes. O God I so much love the '70's. This is certainly one of my favourite Hawkwind tunes. It sent shivers of pleasure and boding up my spine every single time I operated the lightshow during my time with the band. Fantastic vibe!
Pogle Stowell this and the golden void....... I’ve told my kids I want to go into the fiery pit to the golden void on my demise and they are to play this whole album at my service, I’d like to them to pass out micro dots but maybe not..😂
Listening to this in the black forest Germany on a motorcycle trip. I haven't grown up at all. First heard this at 15. That was 1981. Doesn't seem that long ago.
I first saw them at Stonehenge Festival in 1980. I had to cling on to the planet to stop spinning off. I was 15 too! I seem to be doing all right, all things considered.
This evokes a mood like Epitaph or Cirkus, by King Crimson, or Masters of Reality's Blue Garden. Or 30,000 Light Years From Home, by the Rolling Stones. Not many songs or artists can do that. A marvelous piece of music.
The Hawks at their finest, this song is sublime, especially after the fine vocals, when you can really appreciate the musicianship and 'lose yourself' , particularly at 3:02 when the deep bass swirling Mellotron/synth really kicks in along that glorious flute giving just the right amount of tricky dynamics at the treble end of the scale. Of course this is exemplified with the tom tom (?) drums kicking in at 3:16. This is a track you can really lose yourself in and imagine you are with Captain Brock' on the course to sheer divination.
I see what you mean. This is an absolute masterpiece should be mentioned when talking about great rock tracks along with Stairway to Heaven for instance. Great track but this is superior.

A bit early for me. I didn't see the hawks until Stonehenge in 1983, but this record was a huge part of my life back then. I still have the CHAOS shield sleeve.
hawkwind and the original motorhead line up are the masters full stop and neither of them get the true credit they deserved for showing the world great heavy rock..other groups made more money and fame but hawk and motorhead were real warlords of the 70s and 80s...I would say RIP Lemmy but it don't seem right..I say give em hell on the other side Lemmy..a true legend
I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I loved Hawkwind then, and still do. that being said , I also owned & operated a record store in Ithaca N.Y. point being I am very hard to impress musically.
A friend at school played me The Golden Void. I was hooked on Hawkwind from there on. Saw them live many times. Interestingly, my favourite gig was on the Hawklords PSI Power tour.
Lives of great men all remind us ....... That Longfellow should feature in Hawkwind's credits as the bloke that wrote the core lyrics on this ;-p Heh. Bet he'd be in equal parts bewildered and chuffed as owt to find his stuff used like this. Brilliant.
This is still so so brilliantly fantastic. Seen Hawkwind over the years many times and recently at HRH and Rambling Man, they never ever let you down. Keep going Dave Brock you are the King of Prog Rock......no correction the God Of Prog......
This is the best mix I have heard yet on RUclips. But if you like this track, find the original vinyl. This is what RUclips is for. Find the original. If you like this version, then prepare to loosen your cosmic socks when you hear proper flute and second drum kit on a first edition version. Thanks for the upload. Love to all........................
I've never stopped being 'a Warrior On The Edge Of Time' from since I first heard this song and album at about 17 years old, while sitting round open wood fire camping on the edge of the wild Scottish Highlands with a group of mates and my ghetto blaster...,,so there we were at approx 2am..one of my mates suggests he put the next album on...so he chooses this...and most of us were yet to hear it....by the time we got to The Wizard Blew His Horn, all of us were totally transfixed by every word and note .''looking into the flames flickering in the fire ,and then to the light of the flames dancing over the forest trees nearby with the dark mysterious deep forest all around us..in between the songs we had the noise of the wind rustling through the wild forest trees, and the distant noise of the nearby river we were camped near......it truly was sublime and magical ..the perfect setting for a perfect album.
Playing French Horn I was in the backing orchestra for a U.K. Tour of Barclay James Harvest and Hawkwind were the warm up band. A truly amazing series of gigs and a fusion of Orchestral and Rock Bands.
Fabulous track from a great band: this was the opening song (& mission statement) of their set at Sydney University a few years back - followed closely by a triumphant version of "Spirit of the Age". An absolute joy to hear/see them perform. Please return to our shores!
This track in particular, and the whole album, will forever remind me of my late friend Jim "Stridor" Kane who passed away far too early and unexpextedly 4 years ago. We were friends from school days and for the rest of our lives. First times tripping out and all that comes with it. This takes me straight back there immediately................................fantastic times locked in forever
I remember that I bought the LP back in 1975 just because I loved the cover, I did not have any idea about the music and the band... was I lucky! one of the greatest prog rock album of all time!!!!
I first saw Hawkwind in late 1970, then saw them in 72. During the Space Ritual Tour I interviewed Lemmy and drank a bottle of wine with him. Saw them again in Marseille in late 74 and then again in Toulouse in 75. This is one of their best along with The Reason Is.
A friend who wanted to be my boyfriend turned me on to Hawkwind when I was 19, in 1980. I genuinely liked this guy, but LOVED the music, and have done so through all these years. This, along with a few others is a religious experience (for me). Was fortunate to see Dave Brock playing with other folk as Hawkwind, at last, in 2007!
Was listening to this in 83 at 12 on shrooms, after that I got students sell me sum where is fields. Used to have loads all over Derbyshire on me bike, working went in breaks. Not many left at all.love Derbyshire.

F*uck the Nazis F*uck Piñera
My special memory- a bunch of us went down the Villa to watch the match v Notts Forest in 1978. We stood in the Holte End and raved over the bit where A & B smashes into The Golden Void. Mind-blowing. And I met Brian Clough. Also quite mind-blowing!
Have seen them twice in Cleveland. " 1974 tour the "1999 Space Party" This the best Hawkwind ever ways! Same for Chicago. In fact that was recorded to bring the best live album ever!
Seen Hawkwind for 40 years on many occasions. I have been on stage when they played. Memories i will never forget . God bless all who have played under the Hawkwind banner
Spacerock is more popular none than ever, it seems like this generation of kids really dig it! I am in a spacerock band called Spacelyz Rockit, we were playing out 4 nights a week before covid hit. I live outside of Raleigh NC, we have 3 large universities within 40 miles of my house and about 6 smaller universities. Carolina, Duke, and NC State kept us very busy and NC State has one of the best college radio stations in the country for alternative music. WKNC 88.1, has been going strong for many decades. I play spacerock because of bands like Hawkwind, also because it is a real challenge to play and I have an old Moog synth. two old organs, a Lowery, and a wurlitzer. I have tube amps for my guitars and some new keylabs, samplers, and my own home studio. I would rather be in there than play out that take time and is hard work moving everything but it is fun and we have met many spaced out freaky people! Since covid our youtube channel has gotten about 500 to 700 views a week! You can go to my channel and See some of our videos with laser lights and smoke machines and such. We have about $130000 in equipment and are looking to buy more all the time. Check us out let me know what you think, take care all of you Spacey people! Hawkwind is the best! C.R.

hawkwind and the original motorhead line up are the masters full stop and neither of them get the true credit they deserved for showing the world great heavy rock..other groups made more money and fame but hawk and motorhead were real warlords of the 70s and 80s...I would say RIP Lemmy but it don't seem right..I say give em hell on the other side Lemmy..a true legend
You mean Lemmy, Larry Wallis and Lucas Fox?
@@swinetrek don't forget Duncan ( Sandy ) Sanderson and Russell Hunter...;)
I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I loved Hawkwind then, and still do. that being said , I also owned & operated a record store in Ithaca N.Y. point being I am very hard to impress musically.
A friend at school played me The Golden Void. I was hooked on Hawkwind from there on. Saw them live many times. Interestingly, my favourite gig was on the Hawklords PSI Power tour.
Saw em at Oxford on that very tour - simply superlative.
Absolutely love this track
One of my life long favourites.
It has been said of Hawkwind's music that it is "full of atmosphere and energy": what could be better than that?
A full reunion .
Atmospheric energy…….
Always searching for hidden progressive rock gems through a relatively short musical history...always come back to Hawkwind!
Awesome....
🎼🎶🎶🎵
This is easy..the best ever band that has ever graced our planet and others out of touch mm mmm.see them live before it's too late people PLEASE
Lives of great men all remind us ....... That Longfellow should feature in Hawkwind's credits as the bloke that wrote the core lyrics on this ;-p
Heh.
Incredible this blows my mind away every Time seen them so many times absolute masterpiece 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Got it. Gate-fold shield sleeve with CHAOS on the reverse side. One of the best albums ever recorded. Moorcock's tracks are spine-tingling.
@art matters nice to be rich i still isten
Billy longmier stole my original.all three of them.had alot of hawkwind in the 70s.did a lot of trip.
Yes, im used to that version, this mix/version lacks the fine quality !!
We are Warriors at the Edge of Time !!! 🔴🐬📯
In my 60,s now. Can still remember this from my school days. Best band ever live ,,,!,, 4:00 😊
I bought the first album in 1970 and moved on . 2020 they have made 32 albums ..This is good
I've never stopped being 'a Warrior On The Edge Of Time' from since I first heard this song and album at about 17 years old, while sitting round open wood fire camping on the edge of the wild Scottish Highlands with a group of mates and my ghetto blaster...,,so there we were at approx 2am..one of my mates suggests he put the next album on...so he chooses this...and most of us were yet to hear it....by the time we got to The Wizard Blew His Horn, all of us were totally transfixed by every word and note .''looking into the flames flickering in the fire ,and then to the light of the flames dancing over the forest trees nearby with the dark mysterious deep forest all around us..in between the songs we had the noise of the wind rustling through the wild forest trees, and the distant noise of the nearby river we were camped near......it truly was sublime and magical ..the perfect setting for a perfect album.
when you're smoking weed,is when this album sounds it's best!
Absolutely brilliant track this.
As mindblowing as it was in the golden age of blow and lsd as now without. the mind does not forget!!!
Playing French Horn I was in the backing orchestra for a U.K. Tour of Barclay James Harvest and Hawkwind were the warm up band. A truly amazing series of gigs and a fusion of Orchestral and Rock Bands.
This sounds like it couldve been Pink Floyd had Syd remained with them! But of course it's Hawkwind and it's fucking brilliant!!!! Ty for this! ;)
Loved this song for 40 years......
Hawkwind were never the same after Lemmy and Simon King were sacked. What a rhythm section.
King wasn't sacked . He walked. Silly bastard. He was the best drummer they ever had.
This cut NEVER gets old. It's INDESCRIBABLY amazing! Long live the mighty Hawkwind!
absolute brilliant.this is what you call music .
I remember that I bought the LP back in 1975 just because I loved the cover, I did not have any idea about the music and the band... was I lucky! one of the greatest prog rock album of all time!!!!
Hawkwind Are Timeless and will probably be listened to by discerning music lovers "Till the End Of Time" !
One of the best psychedelic albums that have been created
Masterpiece all day long😁👍🇬🇧
I first saw Hawkwind in late 1970, then saw them in 72. During the Space Ritual Tour I interviewed Lemmy and drank a bottle of wine with him. Saw them again in Marseille in late 74 and then again in Toulouse in 75. This is one of their best along with The Reason Is.
Its simply one of the best toons in the world of the wind
And in parting leave behind us,footprints in the sands of time.Lyrics to die for.Superb.
Yeah but that bit was taken from the poet Longfellow
A friend who wanted to be my boyfriend turned me on to Hawkwind when I was 19, in 1980. I genuinely liked this guy, but LOVED the music, and have done so through all these years. This, along with a few others is a religious experience (for me). Was fortunate to see Dave Brock playing with other folk as Hawkwind, at last, in 2007!
Was listening to this in 83 at 12 on shrooms, after that I got students sell me sum where is fields. Used to have loads all over Derbyshire on me bike, working went in breaks. Not many left at all.love Derbyshire.
They really bump their level in this album. This is some kind of unique space rock album.
Assault and Battery
................................
Lives of great men all remind us
We may make our lives sublime
And departing leave behind us
Footprints in the sands of time
Of hewn stones the sacred circle
Where the wizened sages sat
Let us try to remember
All the times where they were at
So your thoughts, they were expecting
Assault and battery on the human anatomy,
Assault and battery on the human anatomy, man ...(ALL 4 X3) MY INGLISH IS BAD
THE GOLDEN VOID
...................................
Golden Void speaks to me
Denying my reality
Lose my body, lose my mind,
Flow like wind, flow like wine
Down a corridor of flame
Will I fly so high again
Is there something wrong with me
I cannot hear, I cannot see
Down a corridor of flame
Down a corridor of flame
Down a corridor of flame
Down a corridor of flame
So you think the time is past,
The life you lead will always last
Chaotic fusion's of your soul,
Down below that rocky knoll
Through the clouds an open sky,
The wind flows through your watering eyes
The sounds are pitched to draw you
On your never ending journey
On The edge of time,
The edge of time
The edge of time...
F*uck the Nazis

...and still listening to it tonight
Whenever I hear this I have 'flashbacks' to every Michael Moorcock book ever written.
@Lord Jagged - Definitely. Since the mid 70's when I discovered his books.
@Lord Jagged - All the Hawkmoon, Corum, Elric stories. Though Elric is by far my fave character.
Yuppidy.
@@Splunkzop Maximillian von Bek for me.
The Time of the Hawklords, apparently, is now. But then, it always was.
Hawkwind has released some great fucking albums...Warrior is definitely one of them!
This was the sound track to my homeless struggle.
Most underrated band of all time!!!!
I've been rocking to this one since the early 70s Still rocking still love it
Fucking masterpiece- timeless
So easy to let your spirit soar.
There again, I can really do without the assault and battery bit. Gettin' a tad old for that shit.
agreed
i second that emotion
go thee with light speed
Feel like you're in a faerie tale. Awesome! I'm tripping to this.
You're on the edge of time, man..
It must have been amazing listening to this when it first came out in the early 70s, way ahead of its time!
When my daughter was a baby I played this to her and said "Listen to this, it'll make your dreams colourful" I knew I meant anyway.....
One of the greatest Hawkwind tracks.
At just 2 years old, my mom showed me this album and I didn’t understand it. Now just a year later, I understand it all!
Ah hah ever young, eh!
Seen this concert live in 1973 -74 Arie Crown Theater Chicago. R.I.P Lemmy.
That Mellotron....
Down a corridor of flame...
In parting , leave behind Us ... Footprints in the Sand's of Time !!!
HAWKWIND lives on / no matter the Player's / ( members ) ... Thank You for the :. " Ear Candy " ! ♦️
"Lives of great men all remind us we may make our lives sublime, and departing leave behind us footprints in the sands of time." Might be my senior quote.
