@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Definitely! My garden has a wooden barrier around it with a covering akin to Jun's over the top. It's small, but the climate where I'm at allows for a variety of things to grow in a smaller area.
Jun has a beautiful gift of making mundane or things I personally consider boring in to an extremely relaxing, interesting, and sometimes informative video.
I have gotten great results this last year, after mulching up my fall leaves and putting them on the garden bed in the fall, letting them decompose over winter and then turning it into the soil in the spring.. My very dry, dead veggie bed has become loamy, and full of earthworms.. first time in 20 years of living here. And the leaves were free! My sister, who keeps a horse at a local barn, told me the barn owner was giving away the compost pile and to just come get what I wanted.. I got two laundry bucket sized loads (what would fit in my car) and put those on my garden this year as well. I have no dead plants this year!
Be careful when watering tomatoes! If the leaves get too damp, you can get mildew and it's very hard to get rid of. My advise would be to water them without touching the leaves as much as possible, you'll tell the difference!
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley yep, I myself live in a place where weather gets really damp, that's why we don't really plant tomatoes that much, and if we do, you really have to fight for it. Drier climates aren't that affected as moist ones, though.
I started planting in March and by now my balcony is a mini tomato- cucumber jungle. 😋 It’s so addicting growing stuff! You did a nice job with this garden!
Here in america when we plant our tomatoes (atleast my mother does this) before we put the plant in the ground, we first sprinkle the hole with crushed egg shells and magnesium sulfate--epson salt. It helps them grow stronger and better. I did an experiment by testing which method worked best, with or without the additives, and with won out by a long shot. The plants grew twice as big and therefore had twice the yield for a longer period of time, than the plants without it. If you choose to do this, you still can, just gentle dig around the plant again and sprinkle it in.
That soil looks very sandy, do you know of anywhere that has horses? Some good old horse muck was my grandfathers favourite way of adding goodness back into his allotment and dealing with the sandy soil.
I guess that's where the compost comes in. They did grow things last year but had started too late to get much out of it. They had a cooking video (not Jun's Kitchen, I don't believe) of them making Rachel's favorite vegetable into a dish from what they'd grown.
