Thank you so much to all of you for watching and supporting this channel! This is the last cooking video in this apartment and I'm going to start cooking in my new kitchen from now on!
Baumkuchen is a traditional German cake, but apparently it's a lot more popular in Japan than it is in Germany. You can get this pretty much anywhere in Japan from convenience stores to supermarkets to fancy pastry shops. It requires a lot of skill and a special machine to make it professionally, but this time I made it with a Japanese pan and very simple ingredients at home. If you get a chance, please give it a try!
【Ingredients (serves 2-3)】
2 eggs
200g pancake mix
40g unsalted butter
135ml milk
0-40g sugar (depending on how much sugar your pancake mix has, you can adjust to your taste) Хобби
Poki is so chill, guy doesent even care hes being vaccumed
Hello, we are Struggling to build a shelter for street cats that you can support us😻🐈🙏🏻
Poki being Poki
He's chill until there's food involved 😂
Of course he doesnt care because he is one, for food! 🤣
As mentioned in the comparing the cats vid.
The urge of every cat owner to say „uyyy big stretch“ whenever one of their cats stretches lol 😆
Also "big yawn"
can confirm, dog owners do the same 🥲
🤣 every time my cat stretches his back legs as he's walking. So cute!!
*Hi Meows. We are 4 adopted cats from the Philippines. We're all brothers. Check out our channel* 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
LOLLLL😂
Jun: “Baumkuchen”
Subtitles: “Bomb go ahead”
LmaO exactly. I had the subs on automatically
My favorite was "bum cool hand"😁
LoLL hahahhaha
cay
why cant anyone pronounce it correctly q.q
jun: casually vacuums his cat
me: looks over at my cat
my cat: don't you dare
i cant decide whats better
poki absolutely chillin while being vacuumed
haku *sprawled* over the floor becoming l o n g
nagi disappearing behind a cabinet
haku and nagi cozying up in a box together
too difficult to decide they're all making my heart extra warm for xmas
For me it was Pichi letting Jun pet her, and not caring
Haku is my favorite haha
Yes
my sisters cat is just like that too, but he is deaf so doesnt hear the vaccum, meanwhile his 4 hearing brother cats freak out! lol
not to mention Pichi being such a tight little roll of cat while sleeping on the couch! It's so nice to see Jun pet her without Pichi seeming nervous!
poki just adorably chomping that bird is everything to me

I'm german and Baumkuchen is one of my favourite christmas treats! I buy a bunch of them every year, usually coated in chocolate. Delicious! Never tried making it myself though, maybe I should.
Hi friend, we want your encourage us to continue feeding the poor homeless Kittens by liking and supporting them, i will be happy if you do that 🐈😻
Guten tag! So much more fun to just watch Jun make them 😻.
Nice that someone else thought about Baumkuchen here 😊I love it
Ey Baumkuchen ohne Schoki ist gefühlt kriminell

Is it weird to feel strangely emotional about "leaving" this apartment? We've had some great memories in this apartment (ie. Rachel and her horse mask lol, kitties jumping over toilet paper, Pichi's first home, and more) ♡
yea i feel the same way but im glad jun and rachel can live in their dream home :]
EDIT: okay have never got more then 7 likes on a comment WHAT HAPPEND HERE????
Nah, I felt it too. It was a familiar setting where good things happened.
@@whoat Yeah, here's too more good memories in a home where Rachel and Jun will no longer bump into walls or hit their heads 🎉
This guy, his wife and his family of cats are just so cool. I love kitties and have 3 of my own but the way he cares and cooks for them is especially heartwarming. They r very lucky to have him as their HOOMAN
Lots of great times in that place :)
When you, as a German, learn to make Baumkuchen from an english speaking japanese person :D
This looks so delicious
pancake dough is too soft for Baumkuchen, cant imagine that it taste as close to real Baumkuchen. Baumkuchen dough has a more try consitency with velvet like behaviour on tounge.
It feels like it was only yesterday that you, Rachel, and the kitties moved into THAT apartment, and now you're at the new house... man I've been watching you both for a while now xD congrats on the new house!!! I can't wait to see what mischief the kitties get up to and what gets cooked there - gonna definitely try this myself when I find one of those pans :)
I've been debating on whether to get that pan or not, this video sold it for me!
Packing and navigating around the cats is an art form, especially when there is cardboard boxes !
Hi friend, you can encourage us to continue feeding the poor stray kittens by liking and supporting them, thanks🐈💞🙏🏻

If Jun is missing any cats at the new house, check a box or the cabinets at the old apartment to see if they're still there. 😁
if ur lucky maybe all 4 of them will be in the exact same 1 XD
or maybe I've just lost to temptation and stolen them for a few cuddles

*Hi Meows. We are 4 adopted cats from the Philippines. We're all brothers. Check out our channel* 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
Jun: * opens kitchen drawers *
Nagi: it's free real estate
Jun: opens every single drawer and cupboard in the kitchen
Me, some who has had cats almost their entire life: I know exactly what's going to happen
Nagi, three seconds later: does it
'The wall is getting closer to you'
Nagi 'I'm Indian Jones, parkour!!!!'
Okay, this is funny. I'm German and I actually got myself a cup of tea and a piece of baumkuchen (the tree rings are darker and it's always covered in real chocolate) to watch this video without realizing what it would be about. 😆 You can get really jummy and affordable ones at ALDI and LIDL here. Definitely one of the most popular christmas treats here. Not surprising it's popular in Japan too. You guys like the good stuff. 😋
Ah man this comment made me so nostalgic.. I miss Lidl
pichi allowing herself to be pet at the beginning... she's come so far :)
9:22 Why does Poki sound so adorable I'm so used to him rendering planes unusable due to the sheer amount of vibrations his voice causes
jun: "idk how to pronounce it"
also jun: *says it perfectly*
Not perfectly...but not terribly either.
My Dad and I watch JunsKitchen together. Jun's calm energy with the cats and cooking gives us Bob Ross levels of good vibes and we appreciate these little gems so much, especially at a time of such high stress
i like how jun is so gentle he doesn't even lift and toss the cats to get them out of his way, but he will vacuum poki
We went to a Christmas event in an industrial-scale bakery once. There they had a display worker showing how they make Baumkuchen. They basically have a huge broiler, like the kind that's used for chicken in butcher shops, and a long, greased tube that a very runny batter is applied to. They turn the roll in the batter and apply a rake that gives the cake its special appearance of segments after a few layers. Repeat for a very long time - and you've got a tube of about 10 Baumkuchen with three segments each (or 30 separate segments).
Because it's such a special kind of cake, it was often used as the guild sign of confectioners.
It's interesting that Baumkuchen is so popular in Japan. Maybe it's not that important here because it's always been around? I love it though, and I'm happy that you're spreading awareness :D
Oh, and there's a variety called Baumstriezel, which is freshly made and sold on Christmas markets.
Check out how Lithuanian baumkuchens are made. Real artisan stuff.
Annnd one more thing to add in my bucket list... Ty!
@@__Hanasei__Levinus__ try Hungarian kurtoskalacs and Croatian krem šnite. My favorite
All the cats are just living their best lives. Can't wait to see them play and explore the new house!
in Germany they pronounce it Baum-kuchen, that's for "tree-cake" as when it's baked on a spit it looks like a tree.
Plus when it's cut it looks like it has tree rings.
Im so amused that no one translate it to "tree-cake" - normally every food will be translated xD
Haku: lies down Jun: brilliant, incredible, amazing
Jun talking to his cats is like me talking to my pets. "What are you doing?" "Aww, so cute!!" Every pet owner would understand how much love they have for them 🥰
新しい猫ちゃんが増えてる!
みんなめっちゃ可愛いですね😍
掃除機で吸われるポキがツボです😊
As a german id like to translate "Baumkuchen". "Baum-" means tree and "-kuchen" means Cake, which is a perfect representation of what the snack is and how its made.
I havent eaten one of those in years so this video is kind of nostalgic for me. Thank you for bringing back some of my old memories.

Even though I don’t like cooking, whenever I watch one of Jun’s videos it motivates me to put more effort into whatever I’m doing at the time. Awesome stuff :D
It feels like just yesterday that I watched you and Rachel take everything out of the drawers and reorganize!
Man we need u to post more videos you're awesome
They upload on a different channel. ruclips.net/user/RachelandJunExtra
it’s comforting to know that saying “good stretch” upon seeing a kitty stretching is a global phenomenon.
Even with my short attention span, all videos from this channel always manage to capture my full attention from beginning to end -- it's just so relaxing. I'm so excited to see videos from the new kitchen.
Haku seems to have most if not all his floof back. I'm so happy. I hope he's all better now. I wish you the best new kitchen ever. I would love to see you make, in the future sometimes, a Jun-ified bowl of chili. I loveeeee chili. Best wishes to you guys these holidays.
I took German in high school and one afternoon I was hanging out in the neighborhood of my school in Tokyo and in a convenience store I saw my first packaged Baum Kuhen. It’s literally “tree cake” in German, so I was surprised to find it in Japan. Years later I got into a small argument with a girlfriend who was half Japanese who refused to acknowledge the validity of the German pronunciation. She was also half German! It’s still funny to me years later.
Many years after that, I was telling this little anecdote to some visitors from Germany and they ended up giving me a full breakdown of the history/significance of baumkuhen in Germany. It’s ONLY made during a very small portion of the year so they were shocked to hear you can buy it packaged, year round, in Japan.
Long comment short, culture is amazing, it’s incredible to see these ideas hop country to country. Keep up the great videos! Congrats on the new space!
Yesss, I absolutely LOVE when traditions/food/etc. are adopted by other countries. Makes me so happy for example to see things like advent calendars, German style christmas markets and that decorated cone-shaped bag filled with treats on your first day to school become popular in many other countries. Like you said, culture is amazing. It's so sad that there is a movement to demonize exactly that and call it cultural appropriation or BS like that.
Germany and their tree traditions are very deeply rooted in pagan rituals that were turned Christian, bc Christianity has always simply appropriated existing things, even the red candles on the Christmas trees. Tannenbaum, Baumkuchen, so many important German tree things. It's actually quite cool, though the tradition of candles is quite...flammable. 😅
@@Ace_Maus I know, even the Romans back than used conifers to decorate for Saturnalia. The early Christians were really clever in appealing to non-Christians they wanted to convert by incorporating older traditions and holidays. And I think many who converted just took their beloved customs with them too.
@@phangirlable I fully agree. Besides, if we never expressed an interest in learning about other cultures and such, we'd only be accused of being racist or something like that. It feels like we can't do right for doing wrong at times.
when the world needed him the most he returned
Once when I moved houses with my best friend, my cat disapeared and I freaked out for about 30 mins to an hour, calling his name outside our new yard. Until my friend opened the drawer and he had climbed in. 😆 it was very hard to wiggle him out of that tiny space. I miss him so much. God bless!
Funny how unsalted butter is just normal butter you can get in any grocery store in Poland in lots of varieties. On the other hand salted butter is rare, usually imported and hard to get😅.

Didn’t expect myself to find a cleaning video so calming with your cats. I liked how it was so unscripted and real too. Thanks for sharing this video!
The beginning was like a little dose of therapy 😭 like we’re in cat heaven w Jun & co.
Fun fact; Baumkuchen can refer to different types of pastries in different areas/countries in Europe. In Austria, for example, Baumkuchen is what we call a traditional hungarian/eastern european pastry, that's made with a yeasted dough and baked by being wrapped around a metal bar (often not baked in an oven but kebab-style on a rotisserie instead), so it gets it's typical hollow "tree trunk-shape". After baking it can either be filled with whipped cream or pudding or it gets rolled in cinnamon-sugar, chocolate shavings, chopped nuts or coconut. It's a beloved christmas market treat over here. :)
as an Austrian I also thought of our version first

I loved the fake ivy and rectangular white design of this kitchen, but I can’t wait to see the new one!
I’m laughing over how the kitties go crazy over seeing bamkuchen, yet also crying seeing Jun packing up his things for the new house. I grew up watching Junskitchen, and this kitchen brings back a lot of happy memories

Pichi letting you pet her is such a huge thing!! Also VERY excited for new cooking videos in your new space once you all get settled
Congrats on the house being finished!!!
And I'm so glad Pichi is now really comfortable with you and Rachel and no longer hides.
This Baumkuchen looks delicious! Reminds me of the one my grandma makes. She always makes Baumkuchen and Neujähchen for Christmas/ new years and it's amazing.
Great job Jun!
Poor Jun, so tall. His new kitchen will look much more to scale
OMG Pichi let you pet her! She has come such a long way since you both adopted her glad to see her pop up here!
hey i'm from germany! we mostly eat baumkuchen around autumn and winter and it can usually be found with a chocolate glaze in every supermarket :)
and you made me crave it so i'll go get some now-
Ich war grade den von ALDI am futtern zusammen mit ner Tasse Tee und dann geht es hier um Baumkuchen. Lustiger Zufall. XD
When you ever come to germany make sure you try the real thing. This is a great homemade version, but real Baumkuchen is so hard to make. Over open Fire and the layers are soooo thin. It is the best thing around christmas. With and without alcohol. :)
This is really cool! I'm from Germany and a trained baker. Baumkuchen is one of the things we used to make at my old job for christmas, but we had a special machine that constantly rotated a horizontally hinged pole im front of a kind of grill, which then baked the cake. (I hope this makes sense. It's hard to explain.)
You had to pour a layer of batter over the pole, wait for it to bake, pour the next layer, wait for it to bake and so on.
That's why I could nerver make it at home. There are recepies that bake Baumkuchen on a baking tray, but they are never as good. In my experience they never get the same texture.
Your technique seems to work really well! I will defenitely try it! Thank you for showing us!
Also I never knew Baumkuchen was so popular in Japan. That's interesting!
Jun's Kitchen videos are all about quality, he may not upload often, but when he does it's a treat. 🤧😊

How nice, easy and interesting it is for cats to live with a master like you!!! I can feel it!! I wish there was such an attitude of man to animals all over the world....
This is not the way Baumkuchen is traditionally made in Germany, but it is so much easier and really clever!

Jun! You can just get some unsalted butter now when the supply is high, and store it in the freezer! It’ll keep for a very long time, and you can always pull out a stick or two when you need it for baking or cooking. It’ll take some time for it to get to room temperature, so you’ll have to take it out hours in advance before you need to use it, but that’s about it!
This video was so pure and sweet!

Hey Jun, quick question: When you say "pancake mix," what's in the mix you used? It might be possible the pancake mix sold in Japan is different from over here in the USA due to different consumer expectations or food laws.
He made his own, 3 eggs, sugar and milk. I hope this helps.
@@yvonneburns2786 were you even watching this video? This recipe was 2 eggs and sugar creamed, then melted butter and warm milk, then pancake mix, which was a dry ingredient combo definitely including flour
