    How does the almost 7 year old GTX 1080 perform in 2023 across a variety of games at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K? Well let's take a look at the underlying tech, and see how the circuitry in the card provides the performance we see!
    The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 is built using TSCM's 16nm lithographic process- and despite the relatively large transistors, the performance still packs it where it counts! It features the fully unlocked GP104-400-A1 GPU die, which utilized 7.2 Billion transistors to build up 2,560 FP32/INT32 CUDA cores, 160 Texture Mapping Units, and 64 Rasterization Operation Pipelines. Is the card still worth it in 2023? Well, yes and no, but mostly... yes!
    Test System Specs:
    - Intel Core i7-11700k
    - ASUS ROG Strix Z590-e Gaming WiFi
    - 64GB 3200 MT/s Silicon Power DDR4
    - GTX 1080 Founder's Edition
    - WDB SN770 1TB PCIe 4.0 for games
    - Samsung 970 Evo 1TB PCIe 3.0 for OS/Boot
    - 650W EVGA PSU
    A GPU is a separate bank of ALUs and FPUs, designed to offload heavily parallelizable calculations from the main CPU onto a dedicated chip. The Graphics Card refers to the entire sub-system, containing the PCB, Memory, and Cooling solution.
    Building a Budget PC can be tough. Not only are GPUs and CPUs so incredibly expensive, but they can be hard to find on a budget... But, there are tips and tricks to finding you your dream Budget GPU, and pairing it with a CPU that will give you the performance you want!
    Also, if you're reading this far - I've got more content coming!

    I somehow got an AIO modded GTX 1080 in early 2019 for $180 and I wish I kept it around. They had an eBay listing for like $280 and I just threw a lowball offer for shits and giggles and they accepted. I thought there must've been something wrong but it ran well, overclocked decently, and never gave a single issue. I sold it in a PC when prices got crazy during lockdown though

    First, we should define “budget”. $150 US might be budget to some, but for us low end users I consider $100 or less to be budget.
    At $150 typical sale price at the end of 2023, I would consider it more of a value.

    One of my bigger mistakes was getting a 1060 instead of a 1080. The 1060 lasted me a long time though, only recently replaced with a 4070. This is why I love 4K, enable GPU scaling and run games at 1080P if you need to, you can really stretch out cards that way. I think the time is here that all Pascal owners start to look to a new card. I know I wanted one, the 3080 10GB but it was MIA at a fair price.

    If you play in 1080p like I do, GTX1080 is the best cost/perf card at this moment TBH. Its cheap, it runs dead cool, it runs perfectly fine on a 500W or below PSU, and most of my titles are maxed out.
    I have a Titan X Pascal and a Titan V I use for machine learning, not gaming. I tested them, and while both beat the GTX1080 in some games, there is not a difference large enough to justify the heat generated, the power consumption and the insane price of these two cards.
    If you are on a budget and want to get started with a gaming pc, just pick one of these GTX1080 for 100$.

I only went through a CPU Upgrade some time ago (4790k to a 11700k) . Every Game out now is playable in a really good performance way. I also play all my VR Games with the Rift CV1 through the GTX 1080 (Iracing-ACC-Flysim and many more) and its really one of the best Price-Performance Cards I had in my entire Gamer Career (startet nearly 30 years ago) (3DFX and RivaTuner if someone knows this stuff at all after all these years hehe) ... i will definately wont buy (especially because of the extreme prices) a newer generations Card as long as i can play all the games with this outstanding GPU. If you have the chance to get one of these GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti's from generations below and dont want to spent way tooooooo much money for a RTX Card then go and get one of these ones! Got my msi armored oc gtx 1080 few months ago for $180 by a miracle because usually cards like the 1080 go for about 50 dollars more then that on Croatian used gpu market. Used it good, played all the games on 1080p max settings and got more then 60 fps. It's still a 1080p 60 and above fps budget king, but sadly because of some money issues I had to sell it, and I was lucky by doing so because I sold it for 200 euros which is about 40 euros more then what I payed for iy few months ago so it was a great flip. Now I found gtx 1070 ti that performs as good as the 1080 managing the same or about 5fps less which I'll pay only 120 euros for leaving me with a 80 euros which will help pay the bills. So glad to be this lucky with the deals I find, and I wish U all to found, wishing luck apron U'all to also find a deal that works good for U.

    I had an i7-7700k CPU and an Aorus/Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU with 16Gig of RAM. My system was running slowly, for years, when playing games and would often stutter with games like Battlefield IV and V, Battlefront 2 and such.. It often confused me because I thought my system was good! Turns out it was my CPU not getting enough coolant because the water cooler had started to crap out so it was at a constant 100 degrees. I also only have 16Gig at 24,000Mhz so those two things were crippling my system.
    A few days ago I rebuilt 80% of my PC with 32Gig of RAM running at 36,000Mhz, a Ryzen 5,600 CPU and a gaming motherboard. Games look AMAZING now and I'm actually passionate about playing them again because I'm not having to get frustrated with my PC and being confused as to why the hell it was lagging so much! Next month I may buy an Nvidia 3060 and the month after that maybe a slightly better Ryzen.. They guy in the shop said that, with what I purchased, I'll be set for years though. Some of you may think that this is overkill but I'm also an experienced 3D model artist working with games engines and digital sculpting so I need the extra power.

      So sounds like your CPU was overheating and now you fixed that but I’d bet your GPU is still overheating. If you don’t want to upgrade your GPU anytime soon definitely repaste it. I added new thermal paste to my 1080 and gained 20-30 FPS via boost clock staying above 1800mhz. Before the repaste I was throttling to below 1600mhz to stay below 90 C. Now I maintain 1800 mhz at 75 C

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking Месяц назад

      Cause yeah, you didn’t experience a bump in FPS from the Ryazan but rather by removing a throttling CPU. 7700k will not throttle 2080 let alone a 1080, lol.

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking Месяц назад

      And 3060 is a terrible upgrade from GTX 1080 it’s only like 20% more powerful. A 3070 is a bigger jump for not much more money and a 3080 is nearly double the performance of a 1080. That’s 20% compared to probably 80% gains

      @@aaldrich1982 That doesn't mean that Vegas are bad cards, but they do need to tune them up with undervolt, and the frequencies were in a hurry, barely leaving room for overclocking. Inefficient power/consumption. I had a water cooled Sapphire Vega 64.

    Games keep on crashing sometimes, even software for headset crash when I play CS2 with 7.1 surround system. Also played Arkham Knight just to test if it's only crashing during CS2 but it happened also in Arkham Knight. I don't know am I having problems with GPU, CPU or something else is going on. I have Gigabyte PSU 550W 80+ bronze. If anyone has a clue what can be the problem and solution, I would be grateful to let me know.

      @VidekanicMarko that’s strange, have you tried DDU’ing your gpu drivers and reinstalling? That would be my first trouble shooting step, but there could be other issues I just don’t know about.

      To focus on competitive gameplay. Most of the people I know turn settings down to low to get the most amount of frames possible. I'm not saying whether I agree, but I wanted to show the 1080 in the best possible light!
