  • My review of a pelican and orca hard cooler. Also added a quick review of yeti soft cooler. Spoiler alert-my orca has a broken hinge.
UPDATE: After this review I learned ORCA no longer required the coolers be sent back to them in a box. You just need to tape the return label on the cooler and send it in. Super easy.

$800 bucks worth of coolers on the bed of his truck but damn that cardboard box breaks the bank.

I personally don’t see anything wrong with having to ship out your old cooler before they ship a new one to you. I think it’s nice that they are replacing the entire cooler instead of just shipping you a lid and telling you “do it yourself”. Sure these coolers are expensive but doesn’t mean they are indestructible, with the little use this cooler seems to have seen I’m sure at some point the lid was opened to hard or leaned on when opened. I have 3 orca hard coolers and one soft cooler from them, I purchased mine for your same reasons, USA made and lifetime warranty on all components of the cooler.

Nothing wrong with Orca. I own a 20. With that said, the hard coolers are made in the USA, but not the soft. Says so on their site. The only cooler maker that makes both hard and soft coolers in the US is Bison. ALL import the cups.

I have noticed through many forums, issues seem to come from color coolers. I tend to stick to boring white cooler coolers. Plus they attract less heat.

I appreciate the video. I've had my Orca (same model as you, just newer) for about 9 months now. Zero issues but I'll update this if need be.

@@dinir1191 with that being said, would you still choose Yeti? Just curious because I just bought the 140qt ORCA over YETI. I was willing to spend $500 and the ORCA offers larger interior space for the money. But def make an update vid, pls? Do one for the replacement :) Def helpful tho. I mean I already bought mine, but it put my mind at ease reading this comment.

@@bobbybongs7147 After the return process was streamlined I would chose Orca over the Yeti. I am very pleased with how everything turned out. Orca did confirm you have to register the replacement cooler even though they replaced it directly. It's not a big deal.

Same exact thing happened to my orca 26 cooler. Ive had it like a year and a half and keep it in my work van. Im surprised from the light use it gets that it would crack like that. Thinking of buying a yeti Roadie 24 since Im pretty much going to be with out a cooler for a few weeks. Already got the warranty approved and shipping label but it is pretty silly that they make you send them the cooler and leave you with nothing in the meantime. Thanks for the vid.

That's funny. I've had warranty issues with Pelican before with a travel case. On my last cooler purchase they weren't even considered. I went with an Orca 40. So far I'm pleased with it. My only complaint is my wife has trouble getting the latches back on sometimes.

I have the 26q orca cooler it's been great but I had the same crack on the same hinge but I contacted orca and sent my cooler in and exactly one week later I had a new one arrive so I can't complain to bad. I definitely like the lifetime warranty

I just got me an orca not knowing it will have the same issue as my Coho cooler that I purchased from Costco. Yes that vacuum pressure when the lid is closed becomes very difficult to open. I will see what cooler I will keep I don't want the same issue on both coolers.

My only complaint is yours too. Not the best cooler if kids, women, not so strong are going to use it often.

I’ve been looking at all of those coolers. I currently have a igloo IMX 70 I have owned for about 2 years. Both latches are broken and it is starting to split. I would have replaced them without question. However, they are not available anywhere. My cooler lives on the patio 24/7. I bought the igloo hoping it would serve me well. Been leaning towards a Pelican.. thanks for sharing your experience

I have the 58qt and no problems. One issue I do see is these orange/brownish spots on the orcas. I emailed orca asking them and they told me it’s normal bc it’s holes for air to escape. I feel like that might have been the reason yours broke. Bc is getting these brownish/reddish holes near by that same area.

People need to stop buying Yetis as status symbols. Pelican doesn't sound sexy in a rap or country song, but I'll bet you most of the artists have Pelicans in the garage and won't tell you...
