You're a bloody lifesaver mate (at least when it comes to salvaging a broken power button phone). Mine eventually got worse and worse until you needed to spam press 1000+ times before the power button worked and so I gave up on it. So these are great workarounds! Oh by the way, in order to do screenshots and other tasks requiring the power button, go to Settings and see if your phone has the 'Interaction and Dexterity' option menu and turn on Assistant Menu. You get a floating widget that you can open to perform various navigation tasks. Also, some phones require holding down BOTH the high and low volume buttons at the same time before plugging in the charger to open up Download Mode, eg. Galaxy A12.

Planned obsolescence. Make something as trivial as the Power Button fail after just two years HAS TO be intentional. I don't want to buy another "smart" phone ever again.
If you own a Samsung galaxy press both top and bottom volume buttons for 10 secs then plug in the charger for 5 secs while still holding the volume buttons.Then unplug the charger and leave the volume button at the same time.OS installation will pop up,cancel it with the bottom volume button and your phone will start.

I had one for a while, but I found it to be absolutely terrible - so laggy and slow that I ended up just not bothering to use my phone for anything (ie. I got out of the habit, it was so frustrating) until I eventually replaced it. I tried every trick in the book to make it a useable device for day-to-day stuff, but nothing worked - I even started missing work calls because it was too laggy to be able to press Answer before they hung up! It seemed the hardware just wasn't up to the task of running the software. I foolishly thought the Nokia name would guarantee some sort of quality!
Thanks so much. I got a oldish android that is well know for rhis problem. It is so annoying because only the very top at a angle of the power button makes me turn my phone on and off. But all I have to do now is lift up my phone to turn it on and double tap the screen to turn my phone on and off😁

Was hoping this would work, but it didn't. From an angle, you can see the glow that the screen is on, but that's as far as it goes. My phone is less than a year old and it's basically a paperweight right now.

What a simple solution you have given. My Honor 8 Pro's Power button is not working. It is in shutdown condition. I tried pressing the volume UP button and connected the charger. Bingo, it threw up the options. I just chose reboot and it is back. Thank you very much for your brilliant advice.

If it's not worked for your phone, my only suggest I'm afraid would be to search Google to see if any similar methods might work for yours - if not, then it's either warranty repair, paid repair at a local phone shop near your, or new phone I'm afraid!

There is “display” in settings but there is no “buttons and gestures” Is there any other alternative solutions to this? My phone shuts down in random events and turning it back on takes a while too since I can’t select without the power button since it is not touch screen..

I dont have ddouble tap to turn off, but your video made me look for another solution... and actually to lock screen on mine I can put a widget on each of my screens in the lower center to lock, this way I dont need to use the power button too often (I can wake by finger print). My Huawei P30 is otherwise still a very good phone, I will try to not use the semi faulty power button too much now.

The comments and your video help me out a lot. I had a app to turn off the screen but couldn't find out how to turn it back on once it off. The double tap is great I had to research how to enable for my phone model. I drop my phone Luckily the digitizer and touch screen volume buttons still works great. Power button slow to respond so this is my new method for now.

However, I have included the word "workaround" in the parenthesis in the video title and also made it very clear in the opening few moments of the video that it's a workaround I'll be demonstrating. Thank you so much, I think my power button got dirt in it or something and I have been noticing it not working a lot. I tried to clean it but I don't know how to. I was able to turn on my tablet using fingerprints but I couldn't close it unless I told Bixby to power off the device, which would close it completely and I had to hold on to the powerbutton for a while before it could open again. It turns out I can just double tab and close my tablet.
This helped me a bit. My phone has been turning off and on on it's own, and with that it used to turn on the camera with it. This helped me make it so it didn't go onto the camera mode.

I quickly headed to the local mobile repair shop and he said he would need to change the entire rear cover for US$40.9/- I was shocked!! If it was me, I'd try pressing it fast lots of times to see if it's stuck and can come unstuck. If that doesn't work then cleaning with isopropyl alcohol might help, or it might not. Failing that, taking the phone apart and seeing if the button can be replaced. That's just me though - that's not advice to do that, just what I'd try! ;)
