What ETH is doing tactically doesn’t make sense to me. He presses high but the back line drops. Both fullbacks bombing forward before the ball even leaves our half. Our midfielders are left out to dry. Casemiro is finished but even if Ugarte played on Sunday the moment he makes one mistake like a bad pass in that midfield and the opposition have a three on two. Idk if he is purposely doing this but he needs to get the midfield and defence closer together if the midfield is going to press high. Mount would have kept there CB on their toes, and with Bruno pressing just behind, it makes a difference to our overall game.

Every manager seems to have the same issue with certain players. It's either their instructions to the players or it's the players themselves that are causing this. Rashford is dreadful..he shouldn't be near the team. Casemiro plays like he's annoyed with something and lacks concentration and that's where the mistakes came from. There's a poison at the club and it needs a cure.
I agree with Casemiro (I still think he is finished) the defence playing higher to the 6 is good especially with the way we press. You think the suggestion that Casemiro needs players close to him is bollocks but then you say if Ugarte works then we have a midfielder who does not have to make those long range passes and that we will have a player that makes short range passes. Is that not ignoring the fact that Casemiro is having to try to make those long passes because everyone is so far away from him when he receives the ball? which short range of passes will Ugarte make if players are away from him as they currently are with Casemiro? I am not defending Casemiro but the way our team is setup makes it difficult for any holding midfielder to find a close player who is willing to receive the ball.
Honestly, eventually we'll need to have a discussion to replace Bruno as well. Just not good enough as an attacking midfielder. I don't know why but in recent months he misplaces a lot of passes. I don't know what's going on with Rashford and Zirkzee does not stay in the box early days but that's a bit concerning for me. As for ugarte, I'm not so sure that everything goes fine with just one player. The style of play is still questionable.
Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say Mark and I agree with a lot said tonight. I however disagree on your point about the tactics. Yes we should expect more from Casemiro but looking at his whole career he has never been a front foot pressing midfielder, he’s literally never done it. Instead he is a sitter who intercepts with cover either side and makes occasional progressive runs into the midfield. ETH has to understand our player’s strengths and weaknesses and this system doesn’t work for Casemiro and therefore doesn’t work for the entire team as that is a key area of the field. ETH is asking Casemiro to hunt the ball, force interceptions, be more aggressive which leads to gaps and a more chaotic style of play. In certain games we should be able to implement a more closed system to suit players like Casemiro and others use Ugarte for that more front foot style. The key here is that ETH is not dynamic in his style but rather rigid and expecting players who have never played a particular style to magically begin doing so. This is why he fell out with Ronaldo again who at his age you were asking a lot of him but dismissing his skill set over the system which so far has not been proven to work apart from a few moments here and there. We are in danger of entering a period where football opinion from fans has come a long way but now being diluted by “I want to be proven right” culture. I agree with Mark that opinions are fluid and it’s ridiculous to say those that wanted ETH in cannot criticise him now. Equally though Mark should not dismiss opinions of the likes of Rio all the time just for the sake of their own internal beefs. We all want what’s best for the club and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The system definitely needs to change or we will see Ugarte also struggling. Bruno and everyone else needs to come far much closer together as we do not have the passing quality to be so far apart nor the technical knowledge of how to make this system work when the players are still trying to get it and understand each other.

What ETH is doing tactically doesn’t make sense to me. He presses high but the back line drops. Both fullbacks bombing forward before the ball even leaves our half. Our midfielders are left out to dry. Casemiro is finished but even if Ugarte played on Sunday the moment he makes one mistake like a bad pass in that midfield and the opposition have a three on two. Idk if he is purposely doing this but he needs to get the midfield and defence closer together if the midfield is going to press high. We thought de ligt would increase the line but the line looked the same as when Maguire plays. Hopefully the line goes higher the more De ligt plays because I can’t imagine Ten hag wanting the line to drop.

ETH needs to change the system if he and the team are going to succeed. Are we a team that plays with a false 9 or are we a team that plays with a high line and a striker? I get you can play different systems against different teams - but a high line against Liverpool? We need to play the right players in their best positions and in my view play with a double pivot with fullbacks coming inside to give support in the mf. For me now, it’s the system and the coaches that are the problem not the players.

ETH likely to be replaced before December if things are not improving fast. He had his time, if things does not work out he should be moved as many players. Im going to say it, we missed Mount in this game. Now here me out. Liverpool would beat us regardless, i think. But Zirkzee doesn't press like mount and even Mctominay to a certain degree. A lot of fans won't notice this kind of effect on the game, but honestly, in the modern game, teams' attacks start from the back. Mount would have kept there CB on their toes, and with Bruno pressing just behind, it makes a difference to our overall game.

We are only as strong as our weakest link. I have nothing against Onana, Casemiro, or Rashford, but these weak links from top to bottom of the pitch undoes all other potential hard work every single time

I never seen a football manager who plays a 3 -0-7 formation except ETH. The goals against Liverpool didn't just happen, it was screaming all day long, and ETH never cautions his players in-game. He has no plan B in games.

Every manager seems to have the same issue with certain players. It's either their instructions to the players or it's the players themselves that are causing this. Rashford is dreadful..he shouldn't be near the team. Casemiro plays like he's annoyed with something and lacks concentration and that's where the mistakes came from. There's a poison at the club and it needs a cure.
Ten hag sacking is just a matter of time, no point arguing over it, admit we made a mistake to keep him, write off the season as this will continue.

I agree with Casemiro (I still think he is finished) the defence playing higher to the 6 is good especially with the way we press. The defence dropping off is not what we expected with De ligt (hopefully with more games the line increases) because I can’t imagine ETH is purposely using this tactics.

It's not only Casemiro, It's the way the team sets up. The 6 isolated and everyone runs forward. The defence is not high enough and that's why a huge gap is left in between. Even Rodri would get run over in such a system. Ten Hag is the main problem.

You think the suggestion that Casemiro needs players close to him is bollocks but then you say if Ugarte works then we have a midfielder who does not have to make those long range passes and that we will have a player that makes short range passes. Is that not ignoring the fact that Casemiro is having to try to make those long passes because everyone is so far away from him when he receives the ball? which short range of passes will Ugarte make if players are away from him as they currently are with Casemiro? I am not defending Casemiro but the way our team is setup makes it difficult for any holding midfielder to find a close player who is willing to receive the ball.

Honestly, eventually we'll need to have a discussion to replace Bruno as well. Just not good enough as an attacking midfielder. I don't know why but in recent months he misplaces a lot of passes. I don't know what's going on with Rashford and Zirkzee does not stay in the box early days but that's a bit concerning for me. As for ugarte, I'm not so sure that everything goes fine with just one player. The style of play is still questionable.

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say Mark and I agree with a lot said tonight. I however disagree on your point about the tactics. Yes we should expect more from Casemiro but looking at his whole career he has never been a front foot pressing midfielder, he’s literally never done it. Instead he is a sitter who intercepts with cover either side and makes occasional progressive runs into the midfield. ETH has to understand our player’s strengths and weaknesses and this system doesn’t work for Casemiro and therefore doesn’t work for the entire team as that is a key area of the field. ETH is asking Casemiro to hunt the ball, force interceptions, be more aggressive which leads to gaps and a more chaotic style of play. In certain games we should be able to implement a more closed system to suit players like Casemiro and others use Ugarte for that more front foot style. The key here is that ETH is not dynamic in his style but rather rigid and expecting players who have never played a particular style to magically begin doing so. This is why he fell out with Ronaldo again who at his age you were asking a lot of him but dismissing his skill set over the system which so far has not been proven to work apart from a few moments here and there.
We are in danger of entering a period where football opinion from fans has come a long way but now being diluted by “I want to be proven right” culture. I agree with Mark that opinions are fluid and it’s ridiculous to say those that wanted ETH in cannot criticise him now. Equally though Mark should not dismiss opinions of the likes of Rio all the time just for the sake of their own internal beefs. We all want what’s best for the club and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The system definitely needs to change or we will see Ugarte also struggling. Bruno and everyone else needs to come far much closer together as we do not have the passing quality to be so far apart nor the technical knowledge of how to make this system work when the players are still trying to get it and understand each other.

Mark you’ve not addressed the system error. There is a BLATANT SYSTEM ERROR. I wanted ETH to succeed but you know you mark you say you don’t deal with extremities but you subtly do. A system is meant to hide the players flaws, every player has flaws the system suppresses the flaws and shows a players strength. ETH is too stubborn.

With the changes in the squad I'd never expected them hitting the ground running; whether people like it or not it will take some time. Plus if you look to all his previous gigs, it always took him a few months to figure it, and as long we don't get behind to much I'm willing to give him that time. People might not like it, but time is needed.

The utd fan base feels very much like a mirror of UK society at the moment, very polarizing views and a lot of finger pointing and borderline toxic verbals between the opposing factions. It's tiring, it's stressful, it takes the joy out of everything. I hope things pick up for utd soon, so some of the joy comes back. Personally ETH in for now, I really want him and his coaching team to be given a chance to get it right. If this carries on though, I don't think he sees Xmas as manager.
