A big problem I have with FB Marketplace is that the search results give more completely unrelated items than what is actually searched for. I have bookmarks for multiple items I search for periodically and for all of the searches it's endless results of cars and clothing when I searched for a phone or laptop or camera. There is seemingly no way to submit searches with wildcards and explicit post requirements.
Another really annoying thing is no matter what range I give it, it always shows results from out of state or far away. Even with local pickup only selected
@@ExDementia666I once got a posting for a car on the opposite side of the *country* It was a very rare Volkswagen pickup for a reasonable price, but a 40+ hour drive according to Google... _WHY_
as someone who spends alot of time buying/selling on FB marketplace it frustrates me so much, but also people in vancouver are actually insane. I buy ALOT of cameras, film etc, and people have a "i know what I got" attitude. Another thing i've seen alot of is the girls who are selling cars and put themselves in front of it.
I love sending ads of cheaper prices for the exact same thing. I have been blocked so many times. "You mean my HP slim with a 12100 is not worth $500 used?"
It's everywhere nowadays, most of the sellers I've seen are selling used crap for nearly retail. It could be an indicator that our economy is not quite as robust as we are told it is... and more people are looking for quick cash.
One of my favourite things about WAN now is hearing Linus start a questionable analogy (Hitler today) then going back to watch Luke’s desperate face as it begins, waiting to see what’s said next.
@@LinusTechTips Don't you think you are a big enough company to just pay someone to do your timestamps (can be some random from the forum, pay them $100 a wan show or something) because not having timestamps equals no watchy, for loads of people. Or at the very least a worse user experience.
Another thing that has appeared in the last couple of years is spam and trolls in nearly every comments section on pretty much every post on public pages... I wonder if it's a tool to increase "interactions" for advertising?
My grandfather was a skilled scythe mower. And yes, the scythe has to be pretty sharp. And since the steel often wasn't the highest quality, keeping it sharp was a bit of a chore. Grandpa would spend quite a while each morning, hammering away at the cutting edge on an anvil - impact hardening the steel. During the day he'd always carry a whetstone in a clip on his belt, and whenever the scythe dulled, he'd sharpen it again. That's what those videos tend to not show... granted, with modern steel less sharpening might be needed compared to back then.
In pre musket times they were also a weapon for when the Lord raised a army for war. They were easy to make and use with good reach. They evolved into things like pikes and halberd.
@@hobojoe9717 these parts there are farmer oriented hardware stores that still carry them or can at least order them... pretty sure you can also order them online, these days.
Don't get me started on FB marketplace when looking for a car, the amount of dealerships that put a price and it says listed price is recommended down payment or the listed price is expected payments. Then these people will be a pain in the ass and refuse to give the actual full price. Its so fucking annoying.
Another way Facebook Marketplace is broken is that the number of postings changes depending on what "sort by" option is selected. "Sort by" should only change the order of the results, not the number of results. This has been an issue for at least 3 years.
And that's not mention that sometimes the sort by option won't come up. I personally live on a coast with land on the other side, so the distance from you is as the crow flies and therefore useless.
Even funnier about the GameBoy backlight thing, the GBA didn’t have a backlight, then the first edition of the SP (AGS-001) had a FRONTlight in 2003, followed by a much better backlight in the AGS-101 model in 2005. Prior to then, the only illuminated screen Nintendo released was the Game Boy Light, which released in 1998 ALONGSIDE the Color but DIDN’T have a color display.
Nintendo didn't need to spend the time improving it as they had the market to themselves. Plus back-light of the time were poor and bad for battery life along with batteries being expensive, so from that perspective Nintendo balanced against those and their competitors all failed because of these sorts of things.
@@bionicgeekgrrlOne of the biggest issues that plagued the GameGear was it's backlight which significantly increased the size and weight, decreased battery life, and increased cost both in manufacturing and shipping.
@@grn1 Yep, screen tech and backlight tech was quite clunky and bulky back then compared to modern screens (even tn) and leds. In many ways the Lynx was perhaps amongst the better handhelds despite the worse battery life compared to dmg gb, but it was lumbered with the headless chicken called Atari.
In the entire show it was never noted why they were seemingly in a bathroom. It was only towards the end that I realized (perhaps incorrectly) that having seen the couch in a prior video of the new space that they were probably in there because they needed a space that was smaller for recording purposes? But regardless low-key both ?? but also amusing to just not explain and slowly tease out where Dan was-
I feel like I’ve fallen into a time wormhole! What’s going on right now with WAN Show? I’m not complaining at all, just different. No more window dressing, just two guys talking tech, kind of nice.
Facebook marketplace sorting by anything but the default just jumbles things up and lists less items. It's been broken since it launched as far as I can tell. I also noticed (as I live in a border area near N Ireland) that uk marketplace users have a feedback system but the Irish accounts don't... WTF FB?!?
The worst is when you change your location and distance radius but leave default sorting. It just ignores location and shows inside and outside the range with no distinction between them
It is also where the first cheap militia weapons developed from, gradually evolving into the pike, halberd and others as they were easy to make and simple to use as well as giving troops a good reach.
Got scammed on facebook marketplace assuming the chat is monitored and you're under protection for making transactions through messenger. Turns out nope, a seller can you just instantly block you the moment you've made the payment and continue on. Reporting them as a scammer doesn't help.
The amount of bot generated facebook marketplace postings trying to scam you is insane. I tried to by a JBL 1000 speaker and out of 45 people that i contacted literally 42 were bots all sending the exact same response trying to scam you.
Yea, the bots have gotten real bad but also dead ads.. message someone about an item, "sorry it's sold", ad still there months later.. wtf is wrong with people? They are answering that it's sold but just leave the ad up!! 🫠
@@acoolrocket I may have issues regarding the fee, and some other things, but at least they have decent protections. Still need be quite wary regarding reading the description closely due to the types of scams like only paying for the box, or a picture of the item, or the classic Apple Notebook.
Yeah, I am 66 years old and supposed to be retired. However, I mow 8 yards and take care of 3 hillsides for elderly and disabled people. I also provide sound/lighting systems for local outdoor events. On top of that, I am a US Marine veteran and active in 3 veterans organizations, performing military funerals for fallen veterans. When I get a chance, I also go kayaking and mountain biking. Needless to say, I don't have a lot of down time to become a couch potato.
Maybe if Xbox marketed outside of the US their sales wouldn’t be slumping. Being from NZ you rarely ever see advertising for Xbox consoles, it’s mainly PlayStation and Nintendo.
They don’t advertise in the US either, the Xbox is a failed product. Microsoft is a failed company. It’s all propped up by corruption and fraud. People don’t realize just how bad Microsoft is for the world.
28:28 why not utilize the price range filter, Facebook marketplace has one. That is how I remove the absurdly low and high price listings for a search and THEN I sort by price.
@@bradweinberger6907 what can I say finding things for free in this world isn't easy. In Facebook marketplace just like in most marketplaces there's people trying to game the system especially thoughs looking for free.
This is the best nostalgia I have experienced in a while. I don't know how long you have been following LTT for but they used to have this set for a while while they were at the Langley House. Casting Couch FTW.
13:24 Okay, just a quick pro tip: DO NOT DO THAT geopolitics aside, you are actually violating another countries aisrpace. there is no innocent passage for aircraft, and yes drones do count as such for the purpose of airlaw. that can get you in serious legal trouble. if that happens with actual airplanes, jet fighters will be scrambled, and the aircraft will be escorted out the airspace, or made to land. this is serious. even more so when you take the geopolitical situation into account.
The CIA must have gotten to Linus. He's now spreading Radio Free Asia disinformation. Maybe next week he'll tell us how Kim shot someone with an anti-aircraft gun because he didn't like his haircut.
It was so refreshing seeing the wan show like this. it was very comforting and felt super personal in a good way. I wish we had something like this every month or so.
You should hire PC builders from FB, craigslist, and offerup, then see if you actually got what you paid for, or got ripped off. Kind of like the shopper series.
It sounds pretty difficult to get a video like that done well. If do a sample size of 1 off each, it's not going to be too helpful. If they use the same video to highlight things regarding the customer protections that (may) apply, the kind of ways to do some due diligence on the sellers, the types of payments to avoid or prefer.. then yeah it could work. Something like a updated guide to 'caveat emptor' for those things would be a help to anyone, even those that consider themselves savvy or techy.
One way I mess with FB marketplace is when I sell an item, I delete the ad and when they ask why, I say "prefer not to say". Just one less data point for them
I mean it already was.. this is certainly not the first instance.. it's just a mass instance so much as.. and and I think it's going to get worse as well now that the kind of fishing version of IDing and tracking specific individuals and creating profiles and whatnot out of little bits of fluff from thin air pretty much.. there's going to be so many lists because they need so much data.. and fuck you know all the data they don't need that they just thought might be cool... There's something seriously broken in that mentality that any of this is okay and it's amazing how quickly it really only takes one or two to start a group dynamic of completely disregarding ethics and morals for the great good or even reworking the reality framework in their head of that.. Dan is a great American and Dan says it's okay.. we must do this, and then that just becomes yeah of course we can do this this is our right.. and I think that does protest a little too much.. and you're on many of these lists Mr always complaining about looking through their garbage at 3:00 in the morning and leaving it on the street for the raccoons to get into.. Yes we know you've looked at your window three times this morning with disdain, that disdain sounds a little bit like.. a disdain for America, people like you disgust me.. I don't know I'm rolling with that one lol, kind of lost my steam at the end. And on a federal level there is some basic uniformity across the states but like on a state-by-state level or municipality, like you've seen the the wildly varying standards of quality policing between places... From those call of duty bros getting into a shootout in downtown traffic in Florida where one of the hostages was shot, by the police who decided they were engage on moving vehicles.. to the absolutely heroic and abnormal jobs that were done in violation of policy to save so many lives in the Aurora shooting at the theater.. this is really uneven playing field and the standards seem to get lower and lower.. I'm sure it'll be fine everything will be all right
For those users in the US it’s a clear violation of their 4th Amendment Rights without a warrant or subpoena. Why did Google comply? Google has a history of doing this.
It's not clear if Google did comply, but with USA having stuff like the FISA court, it's certainly likely. Not saying these particular 'requests' would be under FISA, but that's just one court that has a lot of dealings with telecoms and internet.
in the US we call that a bait and switch price and there are laws preventing retailers from doing it. so they should have a button under report the should say "bait and switch price"
50:00 you don't even have to retire. I was out of a job due to COVID restrictions for a while and I could feel my own decline 6 month in. I'm not even sure if I'm back fully, after 2+ years actually doing stuff again.
In Argentina, many people have experienced that when they go to the agreed-upon location to deliver the product, the buyer shoots them and takes it away
I think we should crowd source the fix for Facebook marketplace by everyone responding to every janky "it's free ..." by replying to the then saying "yeah, I'll have it for free ...". and just FILL their inbox to the point where they can't manually sift through their emails to find that one they wanted. Maybe there's a RUclips video we could watch to find the most efficient way to do it 😁
Remember that list of alleged words that triggered NSAs Echelon? That list that included words like, passwords, secure, firewalls, white house, pea pod, bird dog(?) , unix, and on and on? as a fish owner Facebook marketplace is great you can get appropriately priced plantsor 50 gal tanks for free if you have no problem picking ir up and cleaning it but there are like 5x the amount of listings for 10 gal tanks listed at $200... you can buy a brand new 10 gal for like 15 bucks btw, or people sell their drift wood pieces for hundreds of dollars, and those are the actual listings btw ive called listings like this multiple times and its almost every time its an elderly person who will not budge on the price at all, one listing was selling a 20 gal tank that was filthy and a few decorations that were also gross and old as hell and he was livid when i said il pay $50 for all of it instead of the $150 listing price.
You may not realize this, but your emphasis on coin or currency actually negates the security point. The SEC generally refers to the howey test for classification. According to this test, an investment contract exists if 1) there’s an investment of money, 2) in a joint enterprise, 3) with the expectation of a profit, 4) which is obtained through the efforts of others. According to that definition things such as: commodities (oil, corn, cattle), currencies (dollar, cad etc) and precious metals (gold, silver etc) are NOT considered securities. (Similar argument could be made for many cryptos...)
I've personally always enjoyed the little intro blurbs that appear at the end, I try to either catch them before they dissappear, or take the time to rewind so I can read them. Usually good for a chuckle at least
What I'm seeing from the Labs logo ideas is a lot of options for buttons related to specific product types. Use the PC Beaker logo for prebuilt reviews if they're done, the fan one for heatsink reviews, the cpu one for cpu reviews etc. Just as quick access buttons somewhere.
The old anarchist cookbook. Use to if you went in a book store and ordered it (it was rumored) you'd go on a list...and it wasn't the list of people waiting for a book order.
Ketan got called out for MAYBE being a scam here (rightly so, anyone would assume the same), turned out his ad of free PC building was actually true, that is hilarious how it came full circle 🤣 29:40
This is definitely annoying but it's not as bad as the mess of eBay and Amazon. Their 'variable item' system completely wrecks searching by price. You find a SSD and see a cheap 512gb one for £5! You click on it and then you are presented with lots of options. It turns out that the 512GB one is actually £30 and the £5 is actually for a hard drive protective 'bag' which they've craftily listed as one of the SSD size options! On Amazon you have the same problem, but also even when you get the correct item and price you can be scrolling through dozens of reviews and after a while you realise that most of the reviews are for an *entirely* different product that happens to an option under the same listing! No wonder you get people buying stuff and thinking "Hey, this fridge was missold as it doesn't play Xbox series X games or output 4K!"
The worst part of Facebook Marketplace I have now is that I can't sort for things that are only local. They force both local and shipping items to show which I never want to buy anything and trust facebook sellers to ship things....
10:50 In France few people use a scythe but that doesn't stop them from being found in all DIY stores in the countryside. You need to have the right technique, a sharp blade and grass that is not too tall when it is green. And yes the t-shirt is optional! 🙂
I love how Linus slipped up with the "When you were living in the basement _here still"_ at 51:23, referencing the Langley House, and YT chat just DID NOT notice it
Anyone gonna talk about how Facebook marketplaces UI is LITERALLY unusable? After scrolling just a bit it skips upwards and you can't scroll down without it skipping back up
@@danielross971 False reporting takes time away from the people actually investigating child abuse on Facebook. This might lead to bad people and posts going free for longer.
It's weird because all the ones that on RUclips actually could qualify for it seem to just keep showing up no matter how much I report them... Tell you what if you wanted to really take a chunk out of people violating RUclips terms of service policies, gaze that eye towards the people buying out ads on the platform where there are more scam videos than I could ever find on a home page at random
Honestly, the people on Facebook Marketplace should be legally required to sell it for the listed price if they don't accept offers. If they list it for $1 and they don't accept offers, it's $1 then.
My dad bought a scythe for his rural property. In my opinion, the sound pollution is the main advantage. I only have a few hours experience and I’d say it’s amazing for clearing a meadow but for a suburban lawn I don’t think it’s the right tool.
Talking about facebook marketplace. Could you do a video on the marketplace access denied issues which lately has been happening to thousands upon thousand of people all over the globe. Somehow people suddenly is just denied access to marketplace for no apparent reason. And facebook is not doing anything about it, like in absolutely nothing.
Craigslist has the same issue with things at 1 dollar but in the description gives a real price... it's because they want people who don't want to spend what they're asking for to see it anyway. I just always put a minimum price.
Holy shit! The colour customisation on the LTT labs website is the best news. Thank you! It's Amazing how many companies don't have colour-blind friendly graphics.

Not only an couch but an inflateable couch too 😮

A big problem I have with FB Marketplace is that the search results give more completely unrelated items than what is actually searched for. I have bookmarks for multiple items I search for periodically and for all of the searches it's endless results of cars and clothing when I searched for a phone or laptop or camera. There is seemingly no way to submit searches with wildcards and explicit post requirements.
They probably wanted to be like shopping malls where you are more likely to buy other non-related stuffs if you see them.
Another really annoying thing is no matter what range I give it, it always shows results from out of state or far away. Even with local pickup only selected
Some people put unrelated words in their item's description to make it show up in many searches. It's so annoying and should be a reason for a ban.
I was genuinely surprised to see how well the search was performing for Linus & Luke. I've never gotten that many relevant results to a search!
@@ExDementia666I once got a posting for a car on the opposite side of the *country*
It was a very rare Volkswagen pickup for a reasonable price, but a 40+ hour drive according to Google... _WHY_
The sofa makes so much sense now. 🤣
Fr 🤣
as someone who spends alot of time buying/selling on FB marketplace it frustrates me so much, but also people in vancouver are actually insane.
Another thing is when you message the seller and they don't respond, despite being active and changing the listing.
Even just the search filtering is terrible
Look for a key word, use an automatic filter and results that used to be applicable disappear
It's everywhere nowadays, most of the sellers I've seen are selling used crap for nearly retail. It could be an indicator that our economy is not quite as robust as we are told it is... and more people are looking for quick cash.
I am not a native enhlish speaker so whay ”i know what i got” means
One of my favourite things about WAN now is hearing Linus start a questionable analogy (Hitler today) then going back to watch Luke’s desperate face as it begins, waiting to see what’s said next.

@@LinusTechTips 24 hours later still waiting for timestamps, refuse to watch without them
@@LinusTechTips Don't you think you are a big enough company to just pay someone to do your timestamps (can be some random from the forum, pay them $100 a wan show or something) because not having timestamps equals no watchy, for loads of people. Or at the very least a worse user experience.
@SirDragonClaw - You mean like Noki?
so they WERE at the langley house, haha good one
I expect facebook couldn't care less about "free" listings because they can serve more ads to the user between all the fake listing
Doesn't really because people give up scrolling and won't use it again.
Another thing that has appeared in the last couple of years is spam and trolls in nearly every comments section on pretty much every post on public pages... I wonder if it's a tool to increase "interactions" for advertising?
Until they stop looking at any listings because of it.
If they can serve more ads I think that would imply they like free listings. It's not like they get any kind of cut anyway.
@Donovarkhallum but i think they want more eyeballs on the listings. I've stopped trusting any of the ads and i don't see the ads between them
I wondered why they were sitting on a couch lol. Great job on the april fools video im sure that took a lot of time and energy
Is it tho? No seriously I'm concerned
@@rustylarry7465 if it was serious they wouldn't joke about this, and it wouldn't be so sudden either
You could probably get at least a couple days between sharpening with high end steels now, but it'd probably cost a couple grand.
Out of curiosity, how the hell would someone even go about acquiring a scythe for mowing nowadays? (FBI please don’t put me on a list 🥲)
@@hobojoe9717 these parts there are farmer oriented hardware stores that still carry them or can at least order them...
pretty sure you can also order them online, these days.
Scythe mowing might be more common in Europe but I can buy a scythe and a scythe blade for about 60€ in my local hardware store (OBI).
Don't get me started on FB marketplace when looking for a car, the amount of dealerships that put a price and it says listed price is recommended down payment or the listed price is expected payments. Then these people will be a pain in the ass and refuse to give the actual full price. Its so fucking annoying.
THIS, I was about to say. Or even worse you filter by individual instead of dealer and you see dealers STill listed.
Game Boy Light came 1997 only in Japan.
This reminds me of old school wan show from 10 years ago with the pc hardware boxes in the back, kinda nostalgic now with beardless Linus
In the entire show it was never noted why they were seemingly in a bathroom. It was only towards the end that I realized (perhaps incorrectly) that having seen the couch in a prior video of the new space that they were probably in there because they needed a space that was smaller for recording purposes? But regardless low-key both ?? but also amusing to just not explain and slowly tease out where Dan was-
The new April fools video answers why!
Damn, can't believe I missed this classic WAN show live.
Man that was a a great prank, having just seen the April fools video it makes sense now! Well done LTT!
I feel like I’ve fallen into a time wormhole! What’s going on right now with WAN Show? I’m not complaining at all, just different. No more window dressing, just two guys talking tech, kind of nice.
I just watched the first WAN show for old-times sake and man this was a trip down memory lane.
They have just fallen on hard times recently, they'll get back on their feet in no time
Facebook marketplace sorting by anything but the default just jumbles things up and lists less items.
It's been broken since it launched as far as I can tell.
I also noticed (as I live in a border area near N Ireland) that uk marketplace users have a feedback system but the Irish accounts don't... WTF FB?!?
The worst is when you change your location and distance radius but leave default sorting. It just ignores location and shows inside and outside the range with no distinction between them
Tyler Perry doesn't just have a helipad at his new mansion, he has an airport. (the property is about 1,200 acres)
A what!? 👵🏿
Eat the rich.
11:21 that's how people used to cut grass to make it hay for cows and such for years in my country!
It is also where the first cheap militia weapons developed from, gradually evolving into the pike, halberd and others as they were easy to make and simple to use as well as giving troops a good reach.
29:50 - guy who you thought was a scammer has actually built you a great system, as per your own video you recently released.
The set change makes sense now!
9 times out of 10 they are Instagram only accounts too for some reason
Yeah unfortunately I'd go with Ebay even with the fees because you save your sanity, there's no BS from the buyer and you got Ebay protection too.
@@acoolrocket I may have issues regarding the fee, and some other things, but at least they have decent protections. Still need be quite wary regarding reading the description closely due to the types of scams like only paying for the box, or a picture of the item, or the classic Apple Notebook.

Maybe if Xbox marketed outside of the US their sales wouldn’t be slumping. Being from NZ you rarely ever see advertising for Xbox consoles, it’s mainly PlayStation and Nintendo.
Outside of US PlayStation sales are slumping too. They're behind PS4.
Being in the US I haven’t seen any advertising for anything Xbox so it’s not just outside of it.

13:24 Okay, just a quick pro tip: DO NOT DO THAT
geopolitics aside, you are actually violating another countries aisrpace.
there is no innocent passage for aircraft, and yes drones do count as such for the purpose of airlaw.
that can get you in serious legal trouble. if that happens with actual airplanes, jet fighters will be scrambled, and the aircraft will be escorted out the airspace, or made to land.
this is serious. even more so when you take the geopolitical situation into account.
I think what people mean is, "discord isn't social media, because I don't like Facebook and that's a social media, but I like discord... so it isn't."
Linus's advice about looking up the North Korea drone footage was unclear, I'm on a list now 😢
The CIA must have gotten to Linus.
The North korea thing is so true. I went to the DMZ and saw thru the telescopes, and they look exactly how they describe it
Friend of mine was just there at the DMZ. Still kind of eerie seeing the pictures he took and that was just a rural area.
You should hire PC builders from FB, craigslist, and offerup, then see if you actually got what you paid for, or got ripped off. Kind of like the shopper series.
Facebook nightmare shopper series
Just one less data point for them
It is still a data point. If you want to mess with them, give a false answer
I Love WAN Show for the insights we get into LMG and it's workings Great Job Team LABS website looking great.
01:40 is that the backroom casting couch?
You know it, right from Linus’ basement ❤
It’s a blow up wink
This is the real old wan show! love it!!!
7:42 this is just making the "Alright I'm on a watch list now" meme ls into reality
I'm sure it'll be fine everything will be all right
Id think you can report those facebook marketplace listings for "no intent to sell" since they have no intent to sell at listed price
Nice easter egg in the start there. Funny how nostalgic a sofa can feel.
We are still sending North Korea the bill for those Volvo Cars! They seem to forget to pay every year
in the US we call that a bait and switch price and there are laws preventing retailers from doing it. so they should have a button under report the should say "bait and switch price"
Do it in front of police stations thats what i do
I think we should crowd source the fix for Facebook marketplace by everyone responding to every janky "it's free ..." by replying to the then saying "yeah, I'll have it for free ...". and just FILL their inbox to the point where they can't manually sift through their emails to find that one they wanted.

as a fish owner Facebook marketplace is great you can get appropriately priced plantsor 50 gal tanks for free if you have no problem picking ir up and cleaning it but there are like 5x the amount of listings for 10 gal tanks listed at $200... you can buy a brand new 10 gal for like 15 bucks btw, or people sell their drift wood pieces for hundreds of dollars, and those are the actual listings btw ive called listings like this multiple times and its almost every time its an elderly person who will not budge on the price at all, one listing was selling a 20 gal tank that was filthy and a few decorations that were also gross and old as hell and he was livid when i said il pay $50 for all of it instead of the $150 listing price.
