Nice, as a self proclaimed tooloholic, is nice to see what you have and watch you and others working and see the tools, RUclips has been good to see tools in use that I didn’t even know existed that make jobs easier, Amazon and the internet is nice to search out new and useful tools. You don’t know what you need until you need it and don’t have it. I’ve had lots of ideas for new tools only to search the internet and find they have been making that for years.
Great way to have an inventory for ins purposes for sure. Its in the cloud now. Thanks for sharing. Haven't seen some of those special tools before. I thought for certain when you went to the closet you were going reach in to the brake clean box, ham it up as is tradition, find an empty one instead and hurl it across the floor - ANOTHOOR! Best content ever.
36th! HAPPY MONDAY MORNING RAY AND THE WIFE UNIT! And big shoutout for the two new employees! How much money do you estimate your tools are worth? I bet I would be shocked! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
Loved the tool tour. I have spanners from my father. They are over 60 years old. Still going strong. He loved buying tools. At home as a carpenter or mechanic.
Couldn't agree with you more. As a flight mechanic and station mechanic for Boeing 767 and 777, I have to have organization in all my boxes. Doesn't matter if its my main big box in the hangar/shop, the flight mechanic/flightline box or my avionics box. Watching this video raises my concerns with tool control.
Thanks for the shop and toolbox tours Ray. I personally enjoy seeing how others operate and occasionally, find inspiration to make changes. I enjoyed the video, as I'm sure did many others.👍👍
Great video of a very very busy automotive technician showing Rain man Ray's exceptional memory of knowing how quickly grab any tool he has and get the job done, you are growing to be my most favorite automotive technicians . I'm newly subscribed and joined to membership status of your channel , you have to be the coolest technicians on RUclips, bodymanbob from Alabama, yes I'm a retired automotive collision repair man and body shop owner still, my son now also in the auto body business operating the shop I started 50+ years ago. I love your since of humor and exceptional channel content.please keep up the very enjoyable content. Please!!!!!!!
Wow brings back so many memories, started my trade 1971 bought all snap on , Mac , ect large top and roll cab ,not a well guy now, motor trade took its toll , I would do it all again if I could ,, thank you for sharing ❤❤
I enjoyed the tour of your tools. It is amazing how many tools a mechanic has to have so you can repair a car. Thank you very much for this video. I enjoyed watching the video very much.
I have that Milwaukee bottle opener…it’s hilarious that it has a wire stripper built into it. Nothing says safety like doing wiring and drinking beer at the same time.😂😂😂
Your toolbox gives me a heart attack I was in the Air Force and our tool boxes were shadowed so we could see at a glance if anything was missing after a job on airplane because if it was we had to find it or the aircraft could not leave until we did
Reeee! The Silvery-rado! Waiting on the continuation of that project. I've done some similar stuff on my truck and am looking for ideas on what else I can do on mine as well. Without going overboard, of course. Somewhere between stock and knight rider.
you have a bunch of money invested in tools and supplies! great over view of your assortment of what you use, and the impulse purchase. sometimes the impulse buys pay off and other times it is a “paper weight” a great over view of what is in your shop. mac, snap-on, maco, and craftsmen are good quality tools.
While my personal ocd is crying inside, I can simultaneously respect Ray’s organization methods. The shop is organized for him and his employees and his toolboxes are setup just like my dad’s used to be. 😅
a lot of times you end up organizing based on what fits in which drawer rather than trying to categorize each drawer. if you put 1 type of tool in each drawer, most the drawers would be half empty
I don't know about you Ray , but i wipe my tools off before i put them back in the case . Same as if i had to borrow a tool , i hand them back with a rag around said tool after wiping them down ! Respect of the tools , And the peeps that own them! I expect the same as I ( rarely lend tools) but guys who do as i , i will lend to.
Dear Troy, Ray can't deal well without you. His drawers need reorganizing and someone to replace tools back where they belong since he keeps leaving his tools around or thrown back in drawers sometimes in random drawers. At least come back just to keep him organized. LOL
I'm a home auto mechanic, just work on our 6 vehicles, lawn tractor, horse trailer. I have a fair amount of tools and can definitely see where some can make a certain job easier or quicker, but also one must consider the time to actually find the tool. For example, I do have flare wrenches, but for me a ratcheting flare wrench would likely not get much use.
Don't know if you're a This Old House fan. In 1999 Dick Silva had a house fire, lost everything. When it burns up (or is stolen or blown away) it's hard to tell/prove what you had. His daughter a few months earlier had walked the entire house videotaping everything. Opened every drawer, looked in every corner, videoed every closet. She sent the video to her best friend who had recently moved and they were able to use that footage for insurance recovery. You have hundreds of thousands of dollars sitting there. Keep the inventory video offsite as well as a home video elsewhere. We recently lost a shop I used to take my F150 to. 2 bay doors melted from the heat. Brick building that has since been razed to the ground.
23:20 I have started (at home) storing anything that contains batteries with its batteries REMOVED, if it doesn't come out regularly. It's especially a problem if you're storing your things in a place that isn't conditioned and may get really hot. At work, well, you know... But yeah--exploding batteries can really ruin a good tool or instrument and break your heart. I've decided that I can afford a minute before using the tool and another one after to store the tool with its batteries removed.
I have a 1inch impact socket set. That sit in my garage. Only used it once an only used 1 socket out of it. Got from my father inlaw he was a tank machanic in the army for 21yrs
Ray . Watching this hurt my sole. All that tb space and it looks like a robot threw up lol. Now I'm gana have to go and make sure my boxs are extra organized.
This was a nice informative video, plus it even had gravity in action to make it a Rays video.lol😅.I enjoy all your work and entertainment with your videos 😁.have a good time at SEMA.
24:20 I've bought two sets of torque wrenches, 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". First from Harbor freight and second lexicons off amazon. I didnt rust them and a certification lab down the street wanted $70 to test each tool. I didnt oay nearly that much. Instead, thanks to RUclips, I bought a hanging scale and was able to verify that they were really close, maybe not precise, but I hadnt used them before the first new set and couldnt really gauge them from feel. I was afraid of busting bolts or studs. Now all is good.
I have the knipex adjustable pliers they're amazing but mine aren't smooth face, I Cary the small ones in my pocket and the larger ones are in the drawer, they're great!
I like your channels. I find them very interesting. I too like Organized chaos concerning my tools. Meaning I know where they are, because I put them there for what ever reason. Like you, you can never have too many tools, just need a bigger box. I like the way you know how to fix things and when you come to a problem project you make a way to improvise. Thank you Ray!
Do you know honestly if I knew you before my grandpa passed away I would have gladly offered up all of his Snap-on tools to you plus engine test stands and and a lot of the older tools from like the 70/80s
Cool seeing tools you bought over the years! Snap On and Mac tools have always been way overpriced! But their trucks pull in just at the time you need something! And having payment plans is a plus! Always tried to stay away from tools that aren't made in the U.S.A. but I needed a 16mm wrench and picked one up from GearWrench. I was impressed with the 6 point box end that tightens on the flats of the nuts like my Snap On's!
I sent some photos to friends about various tools distributed across the floors of several rooms .... And what do I find the Algorithm has served up? A video about a Ray sorting out his tools. Spooky.
I was hanging out with a friend back in 1986. I rode over to his parent's house on my motorcycle and was going to give him a ride to work. We were talking and I was basically watching him clean his room. This reminds me of that. What I remember about that day was he was going through his mail and came across a postcard advertisement from the local Kawasaki dealer. It was promoting the new Ninja 1000 as seen in the hit movie Top Gun. We saw the name of the movie and we both laughed at the name not knowing the context of the name. I don't believe the movie had come out yet and if it had, we hadn't seen it yet. It had to be warm enough for me to have ridden my bike.Anyway.. We had no idea how iconic the movie would become. Now they were promoting the Ninja 1000 which replaced the 900 Tom Cruise rode in Top Gun. It was weird that he got this advertisement because I was tge one with the motorcycle and I was into sport bikes.
Nice man , now i have the urge to do all 4 of my boxes , and you made me aware that i don't have impact metric deeps ! 👍on my way to Lowes for the deeps 😅. Good vid brother !
When I first started wrenching around 1980, Harbor Freight was known as Harbor Freight Salvage Co. They were mail-order only and sent out paper catalogs. I had some tools, but needed some things, like impact sockets. I bought a set of impact sockets and some other things from them for cheap. Every one of those tools failed in short order. One impact socket exploded in my hand, requiring a trip to the ER for stitches. Harbor Freight has come a long way since then.
This is my online reference guide when trying to put Ray’s tools away.
Good luck with that.... it will be changed in a week
Does Ray forget to put himself away at the end of the day also?
Ray can put his own tools away. That way, he inspects them for damages, etc.
When littlest unit goes on a collection spree?
Might beat picking up his socks and briefs at home, which I hope he doesn't leave around.
Only Ray can make a 40 minutes video about what's on the toolbox drawers so captivating.
props to you Ray for having everything you need but my OCD is kicking in, I need to come to your shop and clean and organize that mess for you lol
Haven't yet seen the universal creative problem solver - the wire coat hanger. Lift your game!
Should get you a label maker and put "Its Hammer Time" on the hammer draw with a small picture
Of the guy in the sheet pants.
Finally Something Magnificent to Watch!!!

Happy Monday Ray. Love watching you describe your shop and tools. Always learning something from you. This is an interesting video.
You need to do a video with the crystal ball diagnosis.
Enjoy watching the shop updates. Great to see the progress from when you first started in the space to what it looks like now.
If you organize your box and always put stuff back in the same spot, it will save you so much time. I learned that a long time ago the hard way.

I have at least a dozen tools, some I would rarely use, because I saw them on Rainman Rays Repairs.
