As a 40 yr old NYC lifelong resident I can attest to how nasty spree was ! I thought after the Ewing prime years the knicks were doomed but the addition of Latrell and Allan gave us the last legit contender in a very very long time. Dude was fire and hate to say it cause I don’t like Westbrook but they both played angry and with that fire !!!
Fun fact: They actually could've drafted him 7 years earlier and probably would've won a title or two. But selected career journeyman Hubert Davis instead 😪
The 93 warriors team was one of my favorites that never fully realized its potential because of Don Nelson’s personality defects and player management. Webber, Mullin, Hardaway, Sprewell & Gatling. Spre for 3! The spinners - this guy is in my Hall of Fame.
Meh, I don't think blaming his Nelson is entirely to blame. Sometimes the personalities just don't mesh. Nellie didn't seem to have those problems with RUN TMC.
@@IAmRyan25 Injuries were a factor, and also giving Chris Webber an out clause after his first season was a mistake by the Warriors. Don Nelson & Webber should've worked out, but Webber was bound and determined not to be a center, even if in Nelson's system Webber wouldn't have to be a traditional center.
@@IAmRyan25 Yeah, this team really stuck with me (loved using them in "NBA Live '95" as well). I thought they'd be title contenders instead of an entertaining underdog that could pull off a first-round upset (their legacy until they discovered greatness in the mid-2010s), and the Webber thing? If Nelson & Webber could've come to an understanding, the Warriors acquired Rony Seikaly (good player, & fit for what they did) for the center spot, so we're looking at a starting five of Hardaway, Sprewell, Mullin, Webber, & Seikaly, with an okay bench (Chris Gatling, Ricky Pierce, and Tim Legler). Sadly, 15 days after acquiring Seikaly, Webber was traded. The punch was spiked by then, injuries completed the slide, and the team became miserable. I think it's a shame really.
He also rejected 21 million contract from Minnesota and after that nobody offered anything. Infamous - I have the family to feed. He went bankrupt in 2007. Looks like he was a hot head but definitely very attractive player to watch.
Honestly he was basically over his prime at that point.Around 33-34 years old and probably thought if I'm going to play for another few years I want as much money from a team that I can get. 🤔
Let's not forget that in '99 Ewing went down and Sprewell carried the Knicks into the Finals. Those were great times to be a Knick fan. The Garden rocked, and Spree was the man.
Just remember, when you're watching those highlights. Today's fans think it was Jordan and a bunch of garbagemen, plumbers, and mailmen. Sprewell was legit.
Man, I had Spree's Converse sneakers in the 90's. He was so athletic and could contort his body in amazing ways. I did a crazy hezy layup in high school coming under the backboard and reversed it off the glass... I didn't see it go in. Got back down court and my team mates were going nuts. They called out "Sprewell!". That's how much I loved his game. Shame the man couldn't handle his money.
he was really really good. underrated. great defense too. todayso NBA don't have any shooting guards. they r all PG or spot shooter without any defense.
Nothing better than turning on Inside Stuff on a Saturday and having a Spree 2-hander in Jam Session. I wore that #15 Warriors jersey with pride around the casuals at my high school.
Goin' off the hook like Latrell Spreewell I've got the ill technique so you know me well We be kickin' bass, all up in your face And when it comes to beats, well, I'm the rhythm ace
I’m not sure why my head thought back at my first fantasy draft (I was like 13) but his name popped up immediately after and I had to check if you had done a video on him, you’re the man🙏
Bro, love your channel. But, how do you do a Spreewell bio without talking about his NYK finals run? They didn't beat the Spurs but, nor did anyone else that year. In any case, glad to see Spreewell getting some love. Thanks for the video.
I never forgot Spree. He was definitely kray-kray, he had to be restrained in an altercation with his then team mate Byron Houston (same height at 195cm but 25kg heavier!) and threatened to go get a gun! It's a shame that he's remembered for the negative more than the positive, the PJ incident and the falling out with the Minnesota Timberwolves and subsequent bankruptcy, because he was awesome in his prime, and though I am a Spurs fan I admired the Knicks when they met in the Finals and Spree was their small forward at 195cm and 88kg at a time when the league was obsessed with size and physicality. He wasn't just a talented scorer and excellent natural athlete- he had a real killer instinct on defense as well. Apparently he was also somewhat of a practical joker and talented with electronics. So overall a complex individual
When Spree raced down the court on a fast break he was controlled chaos, just like Russell Westbrook. Breathtakingly fast but accurate. I’m disappointed you didn’t show any clips of those fast breaks.
Top 10- Knicks list! Not easy to make!!! Beast mode finisher! 1. Frazier, 2 Reed, 3 Monroe, 4 Ewing, 5 King 6 Bradly, 7 Starks, 8 Oakley, 9 Spree, 10 Houston. Honorable mention for D';Bouchere, Camby, Mason, LJ, Anthony, Stat, Marbury, Crawford, Lee and Barnett - and Jeremy Lin too!
Good job on Sprewell, BTM! With just the little that you highlighted, in this video, you made him look like a possible superstar player and if it wasn't for the incident with the coach, I too believe he could have been a greatly recognize player. There are some coaches that never played NBA, but had possibly played and couched College ball, but some of these coaches needed to be at NBA playing level and they weren't and because they were well supported by the NBA, some took advantage of the players, which weren't in agreement and to keep them in line, they caused the players hardship. Maybe Sprewell had his issue and the coach touched old sores and he let him have it. Of course, the NBA had to step in so that other players would fall in line with the NBA rules. At least New York saw his potential and Sprewell did well after the incident. Thanks, great job!
One of my favourite players of the 90s along side with Robert Horry . Both had a certain aesthetics in terms of how they would move with the ball on the floor. @BTM maybe a future episode about Robert Horry?
Another great video in my opinion spree was like Russ a player that got the rebound and or was on the fast break attacking the rim with force and style. Spree was not afraid of the moment
Man growing up in New York especially in the west side Harlem and the Bronx I will get excited as a kid for the weekends once a month because I will go to every next game that my dad or uncle would take me to And watching him yam the ball with aggression and anger make us hype and you got all in Houston cool demeanor and you got Marcus can be angry block shots I love being the Knicks fan man 🔶🔷🏀 we got Mitch Robinson which is Marcus can be 2.0 and we got RJ Barrett which is latrell sprewell but laid back and we got Julius randle I'm just happy my team is winning again despite all the bandwagon fans 🔶🔷🏀🙌🏾 #NYKFORLIFE
I liked him not only because he was a cool dude but mostly because he had this insane energy, so fast and agile. He was a team player dying for his side and that was always my favorite trait. I always traded him in NBA98 on playstation because his abilities were always higher than his ratings, he was like a cheat in the game.
Spree was the _hit! I grew up in the Bay Area. The Warriors like every team in the NBA they would have two to three guys that could make a All Star team just Nota space to make the first two teams!!! I think if Timberwolves would have signed him and solidified his contract they could've won a title there. Days of hating, see where they are now!!!

He had smaller hands. He had to dunk two handed.
@@thenyyrd9025 lol Latrell "two left hand" Sprewell
So many talented players got lost in time if u don't have rings then its just another day in the NBA
So, basically Sprewell was more talented than a Devin Booker for example, or a Trae Young, This goes to show how watered down the league is right now.
@Vain Freeland You can't even believe that bullshit lol and expect to convince other people? lol
