Hey hey, just to clear the air, these are merely suggestions lol everything isn’t for everyone .. what works for some may not work for others. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but if you don’t find this specific video to be beneficial, there are lots of other influencers with similar content that you may find more helpful. That’s exactly why doing your research is important because you researching got you here. Find what works for YOU. There’s also more specific content on my channel if this video is a lot lol don’t just stop at one place. Good luck on your efforts. 💚
Shea Miller okay so, other people in like AKA or Zeta or Delta say you’re interested or show interest.. they say don’t tell randoms which I know but shouldn’t you show interest at all so they can start getting interested in you
DAMN HOW MUCH EDGECONTROL TRASH EYESHADOW..SHINE FACE..AND EYELASHES AND WEAVE DO YOU NEED...WE ALL KNOW CHANEL EYELINER AND EYESHADOW AND A BLAZER WILL DO....LOL THIRSTY MCGIRSTY..JUST A LIL JOKE WE HAVE ...IN ALL SERIOUSNESS....
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any help you can offer me!
Ladies, as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, over 20 years, Why would you suggest to undergrads to not "window shop". Would you purchase a car without test driving, would you join a church without attending several different churches before selecting the one for you. Personally, you should encourage everyone to attend your events even if they are not interested in your organization. Now, I would not suggest going to several different formal interest meetings, but informal interest meetings should be for all who have any interest in your organizations. Remember, you need to allow people to do their research in person which is the correct way, by participating in your events and service opportunities. You also need to observe them in these settings as well, but everyone needs to do some "window shopping" before purchasing.
When I reference “window shopping” it is in reference of going to several interest meetings, which is also what you said you don’t suggest ... I’ve never seen an “informal” interest meeting, in my area I guess that would be the NPHC panel, which is considered more of an “event” to me and I think V also specifically mentioned someone going to 3 different interest meetings as an example in the video so we’re actually all on the same page.
DeMarias O'Banner i was curious about this too , it’s interesting how white organizations you are allowed to “window shop” or rush as they call it you get to visit several different Greek houses , interest meetings etc and then bid on which on your want to join ... this stuff here about not being about to window shop sounds silly and petty .. the nerve 🙄
I was thinking the same but then thought that may be a grown/grown (w a family, kids, career) woman thought process but then I saw a younger person asked the same question.
Young Ladies...be careful to watch your character development. there is a short quick jump from Pride to Conceit, Conceit to arrogance, arrogance to INFLATED EGO, how else without asking would a possible neophyte know the unknown? if a layperson indicates an interest in your organization, the healthier response(on your part) should be a feeling of honor , apparently, that person is impressed by you and/or your organization"s presentation. But you are the initial representation of that organization, YOU can make the difference between whether or not an individual walk away with a more positive image or a total disappointment. Know yourself..yes but better yet, Know who you have become.
+ladymakini I don’t think we discouraged an interest asking questions but, emphasized asking the RIGHT questions to the RIGHT people. It’s ridiculous to assume that we do not “know ourselves” because of a video on something we’ve actually experienced lol I know who I am and who I’ve become. Letters never changed me. There is no arrogance nor ego .. just passing on the message but thanks for watching 🙃
It’s pretty self explanatory with any organization, if you want to be apart of something you must do work that’s what it’s really about. The letters mean something true enough but if you’re not putting forth the effort what’s the point? Don’t waste anyone’s time like they said if you’re not mature enough just wait. I wasn’t mature enough a few years back so I would inbox different people in one sorority and their same answer was “DO YOUR RESEARCH” and by the grace of God they weren’t mean to me lol I just finally realized what they were saying . You have to ALWAYS be yourself first and whatever you want to be apart of YOU will only be that-apart of you. Good video ladies 💪🏾
Not fully understanding, you say don't attend too many organizations to obtain information if you're interested in one over another. But then you say do your research. How would you find out what's your best fit if you don't window shop. So much of research or asking questions is frowned upon, then what is acceptable? You have to be able to make an informed decision before making a LIFETIME commitment.
+Rhonda Boyd Okay so, what you see and hear in these sessions is not all there is to our respective organizations, so you if you go in to a general interest meeting with the expectation to learn all there is to know to make your decision to your lifetime commitment easier ... you probably won’t. This is why I think it’s important for you to do research prior to attending informationals, because it’s easier for you to weed it out on your own as opposed to a member seeing you at too many events and talking negatively about you to the next org. They do that. Plus, your commitment to that chapter of that organization is less than four years. Shouldn’t you search what past members have done? Shouldn’t you know what accomplishments the org has had as a whole? What other chapters are doing that you like? Don’t like? Wouldn’t it make you feel better going to the interest meeting of the org that you’ve researched already having at least some knowledge and not just going in blind? Just like picking a major, do you need to literally go sit in a biology, psychology, and law informational to know what you like and want to be a part of “for life”? Not necessarily .. the internet makes it to where you can do a simple search & find out the basic info you need. Same can be said for orgs. Hope that makes sense.
I kind of don't understand tho. No amount of internet research will tell you how well you may or may not get along with the women of a certain org. So if I attend events for one org I'm interested in but find that I fit in with the women of a different organization better I don't see why it would frowned upon to change my mind because sisterhood is a big part of Greek life also is it not?
Don’t join any of this bullshit lol. You can go to college, make friends, graduation, and have a great career without the crap. And still have fun along the way. This junk sounds like it’s for people for low self esteem lol. “If u couldn’t pull girls before, now you’re a celebrity “ 😂😂 “if you were a quiet girl, now everyone knows u” I promise this stuff isn’t required for the real word🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Kimberly Austin, lol you shouldn’t let this give the sorority/fraternity life a bad name. as a member of one of the #D9 greek sororities, i can’t front, listening to these 2 really made me cringe. a lot of us, especially the mature, grown ups have never nor do not think this way. yeah, those comments were dumb AF....and FYI: maybe some, but i can assure you that joining an organization does not mean one has low self-esteem.
I'm a freshman and the whole vibe I've been getting from these D9 organizations, especially the sororities, is really starting to rub me the wrong way. The attitudes displayed by members are petty, arrogant, and highly negative. It comes across as a combination social club/cult. All the politics, rules, and "do's and don'ts" seem pretty out of place for an organization supposedly founded on service. And the process for membership is absurd as well, not to mention highly expensive. People really out here paying to be mistreated for power and status.
It’s unfortunate that you feel that way but, you are entitled to your opinion. However, there are rules, regulations, etc. because each organization still operates as a business at the end of the day. Just like with other less “popular” organizations, there are rules .. or even “politics”. There are things that should and shouldn’t be done across the board, not just in D9 orgs. There are even professional organizations that were created to resemble D9 organizations with similar rules and whatnot. Most people only see the “fun” side and think that’s all it is .. but, no. Not all members are the same and most don’t behave in the way you’ve described. Unsure how you’d know about processes unless you’ve crossed but even then, no two processes are the same and the costs vary between orgs and even between different lines in the same chapter.
So ladies, here's my question. You tell people to "do their research", and you mention websites, social media...etc. But how does that really give someone an idea of what your organization is about? Particularly for individuals who may have little knowledge or exposure to these types of organizations? "Window shopping" is frowned upon, but I see that as someone who wants to make an informed decision about what organization they want to be a part of. Why do members view this as "someone who just wants to be down", as opposed to someone who is taking the time to make sure they select something that fits them? And you said it, all orgs do community service and have sister/brother hood aspects. There has to be a defining moment that makes someone choose one over the other. And reading about something online...doesn't really do it. So you're saying that because someone went to ABC, DEF's, GHI's activities, that he/she couldn't possibly be a good member for what reason?
When I joined my organization, I only had 1 family member that lived in a different state that was a member of my org. I reached out to her but of course, there wasn't much information that she could give me aside from "do your research" .. it didn't make sense initially, but I started to do my research. I sat in programs and observed what was going on to not only get a feel for the organization but for the girls as well. I was a criminal justice major, so I'm nosy by nature .. so I looked at their individual social media accounts as well. I looked at RUclips videos, I asked discrete questions to coworkers who were Greek or had experiences with Greeks .. my thing is if someone REALLY wants to know how to find information, they will figure it out. Window shopping, in the way that we mentioned it, is referring to going to multiple interest meetings in specific. You can find out about the organization and if it fits you without going to an interest meeting. You can see how they act at their events, community service events, parties, or maybe even a probate. Interest meetings are the official step before a process, so if you're going to every interest meeting how can I know that your interest is truly genuine for my org?
Thank you for your clarification about interest meeting vs. all other activities. Yes, I could see where the question would come up for multiple interest meetings. However, there are members of orgs who DO still treat interests as something less than desirable if they have been found to have attended other orgs activities. And this is also at the grad level.
Yes, that is true. That's something that I doubt will ever change. I just always try to remember that I was in their shoes once .. and respond accordingly.

I think that some of you, not all, are taking the “Do’s and Don’ts” way too personally. As a man, what I gathered from the video was that it was important to “do your research” BEFORE going to every event, by every organization. I’m much older now, so when I was 18-20 years of age and in college, we didn’t have the internet, Google, or Social Media to research anything about D-9 orgs. Back then, it was called “The Great Eight”, this was before Iota Phi Theta was a part of the NPHC. All we had were books, encyclopedias, and the Big Marchdowns to attend in the summer time. We saw The BGLO’s in parades, and a lot of our teachers had pari in their classrooms. Things were very secretive, and you literally had to read and privately look up things on your own about each org. Today’s college students have a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips. Go read about each org. Actually sit down and R-E-A-D about all 9 orgs BEFORE setting foot into ANY event. You will be well informed, and have good information to see what you do identify with and what you don’t. You can’t be offended or ruffled by a RUclips video. If a video about D-9 orgs affects you in a negative way, that proves that you haven’t read up on said orgs. Trust this old-head. Greek Life is not for everyone, but it is for someone who has done their research, has a heart to serve their campus, community, and world, and aspires to be a part of something that is larger than themselves, and has positive qualities that will be put to good use long after the parties are over and the stepshow has taken place. Take time to know who you are as a person before joining ANYTHING, BGLO’S, a church, Masonic Orders, Book Club, Civic Group, etc. Know yourself first. Peace and Love to all!
Shea Miller you are still one of my FAVORITE RUclips Content Creators. People like you, Corey Jones, and KellsTellz really are doing the thing in guiding these young adults into life after college. Yes a lot of the content involved D-9 Org Prep, but I see the evolution as the three of you are moving into your “Grown Man/Woman” status. Keep up the good work, and may you and your families be safe, healthy, and blessed during these difficult times. Peace and Love, MJ Hunter, St. Louis, MO
I wish I saw this video before I started to go to the informational meetings, because I thought I was interested in a particular organization, but I realized it wasn't for me. I have already been to two meetings different and realized (after doing more research on a different org.) that out of those two meetings, the third choice was the best for me, but they were no longer at my school. I feel as if I have already messed up my chances on pledging what I really want to pledge, because coming into college I didn't know too much about Greek fraternities, and just wanted to really make a good choice that I would be okay with for the rest of my life.
Good video Sorors! Love your honesty and discretion at the same time!! It’s good to see a “seasoned” Soror and someone younger in the sorority together. I think you both were very informative about window shopping. To anyone who doesn’t, rewind! Your research is just as what you’d do for an assignment. You do not have to go back in history to research history. It’s that simple. Organization’s national websites, regional websites, chapter websites, have more than enough information. If you seek membership in an org you do not solely base your decision off your peers. These are national orgs that have all types of people in them. It’s bigger than your campus or people you come across that is why it’s imperative to research for yourself and not what looks or seems cool, pretty or bc it’s what your friend’s want. Annnd Greek Life isn’t for everybody.
Loveee this video sorors💗💚💗💚 I will never forget my freshman year on campus a wise Delta said to me"If you were sh*t before Greek, all you are after Greek is Sh*t in Greek letters!
You ladies can keep your secret organizations... sounds like too much work. You keep saying it’s a lot of work, a lot of money. If you’re trying to convince us to join, you’ve failed.
I know this is the do's and don'ts but the things y'all are saying is MICRO PETTY. Look up Shaakira White do's and don'ts. They are more approachable and are willing to help. You guys are basically saying google and choose, like wtf. Bye Felicias
I thank God for my older bro’s. This video hit close to home because as younger members in these organizations/chapters, your insight is always spot on! LISTEN TO YOUR PROPHYTES NEOS!
I’ve wanted to be an AKA since I was little mainly because the colors. I also like the hand sign and the way they present themselves. My only issue is that I’m not a socialite. I socialize, but I won’t come up and talk to someone on my own. They have to approach me. So joining a sorority probably wouldn’t be a good idea for me. It looks so fun though! 😩
As far as being a prospective member goes. . . How would you approach a member of the organization that you would like to join without telling them exactly "I want to join your organization " but still showing them interest? I know you shouldn't be fake with your approach but what type of things should you say?
I’M VALENCIA! 😊❤️ I love finding black womens named Valencia, someone thought it was a southern thing because I said most Valencia’s I find are from or live in the south, I only know one other Valencia and we are both Iowans
Hello ladies. I wasn't able to attend college right after school. I really wanted to...but it never happened. Instead...I worked, built my career as an electrician for Amtrak, had an accident off-site, and had to leave my career. I attended Herzing University online and received my Associate's degree in medical billing and coding. Presently, I'm a self-published children's Author, attending Southern New Hampshire University, for my Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. I really wish there was an opportunity for online students to pledge a chapter. That's the one part of college life...I regret missing. Thank you, ladies for informing us about the Do's and Don'ts of pledging a sorority. I'm proud of you, both. -Reeb
Thank you for viewing! There’s always an opportunity to go grad if it’s something you’re interested in. Congratulations on being a published author that’s amazing! And good luck with all of your future endeavors.
Hello Ladies, I'm aware u r sharing ur opinions re joining a "Greek Sorority or Fraternity". I would like to suggest that u be careful with your words & ur deliverance. There r many ppl that have & will watch this video so keep in mind u r a representative of ur Organization. Why would any Organization frown upon a person who attends different Organization interest meetings (window shop as u stated)? There r ppl who have friends or family members that can share some info or their experiences AND u have some ppl that do not have any idea what such Organizations r abt. How did U know U ONLY wanted 2 b an AKA? How did u conduct ur research? Was ur research solely on that 1 Organization? Because a person attends an AKA mtg then a Delta mtg then a Zeta mtg (this is in no particular order) etc. or ask different people questions whether on campus or off does not mean that person is in NEED of being apart of "something" or just any Organization that will accept him/her. What u c on the surface doesn't mean it's exactly how it is. U say do ur RESEARCH but how can 1 make a decision/conclusion by attending mtgs, reading info, listening to or asking questions abt 1 Organization? Research includes ALL possible information from several different sources u can obtain to make an intelligent decision and/or conclusion. Also the person will be pledging his/her allegiance/life as u did 2 such Organization; 1 SHOULD gather ALL possible information from EACH Organization before doing so. Some ppl really want 2 know & understand what it means 2 b apart of a Greek Organization so none of the members of each Organization should take that as a form of disrespect but as the person is only trying 2 make the BEST LIFE DECISION.
Awesome video! I've watched a lot of different videos on the subject and I appreciate all the good tips. I like what you said about helping out anyway you can. That's real.
As a Soror, I have never understood why people think that attending various interest meetings are taboo. The point is to figure out which is the best fit and which organization you can best contribute to. It’s all a part of the research process ladies. It’s an Interest meeting.. its not the actual intake. We have to remember that many prospective members are not legacy, they may not have family members who are Greek and may admire more than one organization. It’s really okay. What’s most important is that when a decision is made , they are cemented in that decision and become strong workers for the sorority. An interest meeting is not an indicator of that. It’s just an interest meeting. Great video though. I loved it !
Maybe the terminology differs around the regions but typically “interest” meetings are where those interested in a particular org shows their interest by attending that meeting. Going to several interest meetings tends to lead people in organizations to believe that the person may just be “interested” in joining anything since they’ve been to more than one. There are also “informational sessions” which are typically where people can attend to find out more information regarding the organization. It’s not as formal as the interest meetings, which are typically attached to rush from what I’ve personally witnessed. Thank you for watching! 💚
The story of the girl who was at the Zetas interest meeting really interested me in a way where I was like I’m shocked those folks didn’t kicked that girl out the meeting
I feel like my dad life change but it's funny. So when we go out anywhere and he see someone that's a Omega like him they talk like they best friends and they have known each other they whole life I thought it was weird but I'm old enough to understand.
+Moriah Parker I personally don't...because these friendships are not a "given" or mandatory. Just because you join my org, I don't HAVE to be thick as thieves with you. These orgs provide leadership development opportunities, networking, resources, opportunities to give back to kids and families in need, etc. so it's really deeper than just the friendships. That's an added bonus.
I didn’t say this video I said nobody “SPECIALLY” from sororities DO NOT TALK ABOUT HAZING which is VERY important since young people have died from the effects...
You know what this information is so beneficial. It will take work and effort the fraternities and sororities don't play around when it comes to the letters. I can't believe people actual go window shopping or don't go to the events that's sad.
Ok soo first don’t come for these ladies they aren’t saying “omg join my sorority or so”they are promoting you to maybe become Greek you have to be smart as hell to become a Greek member most of y’all aren’t Greek I’m not but I was looking at it
I’ve watched this video because I’m trying to understand Greek life. My best friend and I have gone to different colleges and she made the choice to cross over. I’m concerned because our friendship has plummeted due to her joining the org. She always has events and etc going on and she’s literally always hanging out with & posting about her line sisters and I feel left out. I now understand from you video why she is so busy and she has def changed personality wise (good thing) but how do I not feel any anger/jealousy towards her org because I feel like they’ve taken my best friend from me and she barely has time to even hangout or text me.. I love my sister, happy for her that she has found something that will enrich her life and we have been friends for nearly 10yrs. How do you guys deal with your non-Greek friends as far as friendship goes??
This happened with me and my best friend, I sat her down and told her I was proud of her and how I was feeling. She explained there are things she cannot tell me and things she knows she will have to do, other sisterly things, after an event so she would not invite me (public event) but after we had the conversation, I started to go places, and understood that she may not be able to hang out and I may not be part of the conversation. We would go places and they all know me as the best friend and I was always the picture taker for them after that but it helped me long term with photography. I would say find a happy balance. If you are close as you say she will understand but you would also have to understand her perspective. Hope that helps :)
A Delta gave me the side eye because I had on #RedWhite unfortunately I was very pregnant at the time. In didn't even know that I had offended her. My favorite color of Ruby Red because it's my birthstone color.... I felt very bad!!!
+Korea Fair awe, sorry that happened! Some are just superrrrr sensitive with things like that. Those colors are kinda more common as a pair but if it’s at an event of theirs, they’re likely to say something 😣
The only thing I wish organizations wouldnt look at so wrongfully is people who actually admire wanting to be in the organization. They don’t look at it as admiration, they think of it as a sign of disrespect and i completely understand you have to put in work to earn your letters but i also feel people should be able to admire and be strongly determined to say I want to be this without it offending a member of the organization
I have a question tho, I’m the type of person where I like to see the brotherhood in action and how they work together etc. So would it be a problem to actually see those organizations before I make a decision to see who is genuine from who is not?
I’m so interested in the AKA sorority I’m still doing a lot of research , but i barely have rhythm so is strolling , and stepping a big part ? Are there some members who just do community service? And how is the initiating process?
No it ain't. Many people look for the path of least resistance without regard to whether they agree with the organization's vision. That is shallow just to slap on some letters. It's NOT a popularity contest people!
Sigma for 27 years here. When I was an undergrad, we were encouraged by all NPHC orgs to attend all of the informationals so that we consciously chose the one most in line with our own values. When did that change? So now if you go to one informational you're marked for life? Strange.
Furious Styles when you say informational, are you referring to events these orgs hold or the actual informational to get in..our school holds a mandatory orientation which gives info on all the D9. Its required for each prospective member to attend in order to apply to the org of their choice
@@JazzyJazzy819 Back when I pledged (before the dawn of time) the organizations held their own individual separate informationals. There were no collective big D9 informationals. If you went to an Alpha informational, at the end they would tell you to check out all the other orgs (then pick theirs). I know that was a long time ago and practices vary from campus to campus. I guess something happened along the way...
The window shopping was done through NPHC events because all active organizations were involved. If you show up at an interest meeting for a specific org it means you’re interested. Hopping from one interest meeting to another can be interpreted as you’re just wanting letters. Sorry!
I don't agree with the not going to different Greek events on campus. That is why they are having an event, so you can come. An individual may just be supporting or getting more involved on campus by coming to the events. A person showing up the different Greek events shouldn't stop their chances from getting in. Also, never assume ! A person may go to all of the different Greek events, but only go to one interest meeting.
+Marie Price I don’t think we said don’t go to different events ... I feel like we specifically said “interest” meetings because that’s what you’re expressing your actual interest .. but this was filmed a while ago 🤷🏾♀️ I’m all for supporting Greeks at their events.
Shea Miller Yeah, that was in the title for #3, but the way y'all explained it made it seem like you couldn't go to the different sorority/Fraternity events. I get what you saying too. I was just throwing it out there for those who might took it the wrong way. Your video was great overall, just needed some clarification for that one area. ❤️
Okay, so I have 2 things. 1) Valencia is so gorgeous!! Like WOW! 2) What if you've done your research and you know in your heart what organization you want to be apart of but you don't necessarily like the chapter at your school because they aren't very active?
There may be reasons why the chapter isn't active that you don't know about. Maybe the members have life changing situations going on, maybe they're lazy. Options are endless. Maybe they need a member to be dedicated or show them how to be better members of the org. So, do you try to fix the problem or ignore it? If I were in your shoes, I'd try to join the chapter and upon acceptance, I'd be the hardest working neo the chapter has ever seen. I'd revive the chapter to show everyone what COULD have been happening and I'd show my prophytes why I was a great choice. This will also show your future interests what they need to be ready for when they join. When I was undergrad a lot of my prophytes had just graduated so my first semester in, I was the vice-president, secretary, and reporter. It was either I do work to help them stay active or let my chapter and organization fall .. which wasn't an option. I planned all of the programs, made the flyers, took all the notes at meetings, took pictures, wrote up articles .. one semester in. It was overwhelming but it was worth it and I think you'd say the same if given the opportunity. Sorry for the essay lol.
Shea Miller thank you so much for responding!!! I appreciate your advice. What you said makes a ton of sense so thank you for that. I know the feeling of having the responsibility of keeping an organization afloat with the non Greek one I'm apart of now. So I'd just have to keep that same mentality. Thank you for putting it in perspective. You are awesome :)
Shea this was kute!! At UHD we had that window shopping problem and prospects claiming they're going to be members on so and so line. After I crossed I remember getting Starbucks and people thinking it was ok to ask if we were having a line in Fall👀🙄 one thing you and Valencia missed was don't try to join a chapter knowing you not going to be the to do work or that you're graduating or wanting to transfer to another school to join that another chapter. Again with it just being UHD, HBU, TSU I've seen girls try to do this, it's lame!
Thanks Soror Diana! But the nerve lol people are so bold with the questions they ask and then wonder why Greeks are usually defensive .. we don't know what's about to come out of the question smh. I would never. But YES! That's a great point as well when you join with intentions of not contributing anything to the chapter that you came through. That's wack. Thanks for mentioning that!
Are you saying don’t go to events of more than one sorority? Because I’m very interested in one sorority, I’ve done my research, still doing it. But If I only went to those events, it would be okay right? To let them know that I’m really interested.
I have a question, if a person wears glasses and their in the probate and they have to wear a mask how would that work, has anyone one of yall ever experienced something like that?
Question, is it okay to rush for non-divine 9 sororities and still be interested/go to divine 9 org events to get info? I know it sounds bad but I'm not sure if i may be going to a pwi or an hbcu so I was just wondering what to do and how to not come off disrespectful
+sunfl0wer02 be interested and go to events? Sure. But...it's highly likely that you wouldn't get selected for membership because of that. Greeks are lowkey investigators lol we find out everything because people talk so that's not a good idea. Just because the school is PWI doesn't mean that there won't be a chapter of whatever org you're interested in. If you're REALLY interested, the better route would be to see if you can get a chapter chartered on the campus. In that case you'd reach out to the Greek life/student activities coordinator at your school and/or reach out to a local graduate chapter .. they'll be able to assist if the interest is there. But that's only if it's really in your heart.
This is great information that you both provided. So here's my situation. I'm a member of three Professional Co-Ed Fraternities. One is a Business Fraternity (AKΨ), the other is a Law Fraternity (ΦAΔ) and the last one is a Community Service Fraternity (AΦΩ). I joined them because I wanted to grow more professionally in my career and as a student leader on my campus. Do NPHC Fraternities frown upon prospective interests being members in Co-Ed Fraternities? And my other question is that I don't have social media other than my Snapchat (which I barely use and engage in). I was told by an NPHC member to create one which I responded that I didn't feel comfortable doing that because I enjoy and prefer not sharing my personal life in an online setting. Is that consider a bad thing and if so, how can I compromise to help my chances of getting an interview?
+pitbull4christ not to my knowledge. Can't quite remember me name of it, but I've met a lot of Greeks who were members of a co-ed business frat and it seemed to be no problem. Just no other NPHC org for sure. I don't think not having social media is a necessarily a bad thing, but they probably just wanted to see it to see the "real" you. A lot of times, social media pages are observed for a number of reasons. Although making a social media page may be an easy fix, I'm not comfortable suggesting for you to do so for the sake of joining out of respect for your personal privacy. I really don't see the point in the person telling you to make one...especially if you're not yet committed. It's just weird to me lol however, if you feel that it would be necessary, go with an Instagram. Just set it up...put a default picture...post a few random things...then leave it be. I don't think this should play a part in whether or not you get an interview.
You would be fine because they are organizations that are tied to a profession or service. NPHC orgs are social organizations. Example: I am a member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity (KKΨ). This frat is exclusively only for college band members, and is based on service to the college/university band program. Also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (KAΨ). There are many, I say MANY members of NPHC orgs that are members of professional or service orgs.
I didn’t have time to pledge undergrad and I didn’t live on campus so the interest meetings were never known to me. Is there anyway I can still join the sorority I want to even if I’m graduating at the end of the year?
I remember when someone I follow on Snapchat and he had on a Sigma jacket and I swiped up and asked him when did he cross? He was like oh... I didn’t cross but it’s something I want to do. I’m not a member of a Greek organization but I have a family member and friends that is and I know that that comes with hard work and you earn it. But I was so pissed. He said it was his fathers jacket but I said that it’s not his and that’s still disrespectful and that’s the definite no for him to that org 😭 because he did that.
So to be clear on the window shopping part, if you're not 100% sure on which organization you would like to pursue you probably shouldn't be going to an informational, right?
+DeDe S yes. I get it, it may sound weird BUT if you do your research prior, you'll know if it's right. That way it doesn't appear like you're just wanting to join something to be a part of "anything"
So I know its wrong to wear a frats colors to their probate but is it frowned upon to wear their colors to a party that their hosting? Specifically when its unintentional and its just the outfit you want to wear that night. For Ex: a black tee to a A Phi A party, or a red hoodie to K A Psi party, or a white tee and jeans to a Sigma party.
Greetings.....I like your Channel. I have a question.....I love two AKA Songs....but I'm not an AKA. I also love the colors Pink and Green together. I hope none of this is disrespectful for me to like this stuff especially since I have Never and Never will disrespect any real Organization
Hello Shea, I go to a private PWI, that doesn't have any Greek life whatsoever, and Ive always had interest in joining one. Is it frowned upon to go to another school for their Greek life? or are we only allowed to join if we go to that college or university?
Not gone lie this video just made me so discouraged to point I don’t even wanna be in a sorority especially with “Don’t window shop” like I understand it’s frowned up but like when you go shopping you go to more than just one store. You don’t just shop at rue 21 and go home. You might stop at forever 21, and Charlotte Russes, etc. Just because someone goes to different sorority meetings doesn’t mean they just wanna be apart of something. Somebody maybe thought they wanted to be an AKA, but went to a Delta event and realized they liked their sorority better. But I mean hey it is what it is 🤷🏾♀️
The purpose of this video isn’t to “discourage” anyone from doing anything, we’re merely people who have already gone through this and know what we’re dealing with .. this video should only be a step in your process of doing research if you’re really interested. If not, that’s understandable. Further, let me try to use your store example in my perspective. So let’s say I work at a boutique store that’s sells one brand .. and I’ve seen you and worked with you personally about 10 times. I know your name at this point, I know your face. We’ve discussed this item (events and interest meetings) but you haven’t purchased this item because its for sale at random times we announce .. but you keep coming back like “I’m going to get this, I’m coming back soon as I can get a chance .. ima get this” .. then when the item on sale (or, a line is announced in this particular situation) I see you come in the store again but you have on something JUST like what you kept telling me you were coming get from me (crossed another org, went to another interest meeting to declare interest, etc.) .. but it’s from the store down the block. So now I’m like dang, she just wanted SOMETHING. It’s not just about “window shopping” as in going to all these different events but once you come to an interest meeting, it’s different. You showing me interest, then you go do something else. So yes, it’s like “she just wants something” .. but most people just take the “oh I can’t go to this that and the next” meeting and find it offensive when that’s not really the case.
I love your page and the information that you are sharing. Does the lady in the green jacket have a RUclips page or instagram as well ?
Exactly
DAMN HOW MUCH EDGECONTROL TRASH EYESHADOW..SHINE FACE..AND EYELASHES AND WEAVE DO YOU NEED...WE ALL KNOW CHANEL EYELINER AND EYESHADOW AND A BLAZER WILL DO....LOL THIRSTY MCGIRSTY..JUST A LIL JOKE WE HAVE ...IN ALL SERIOUSNESS....
The girl in the green jackets personality is beautiful. I like the way she is giving the advice.
Shea Miller 😉👏Soror💕💚
I agree! Character, presentation/delivery is everything!
Hood how? Stop reaching. And it’s *excuse
Yea this video was low key discouraging
How so?
If it was discouraging that means it's not for you. Nothing wrong with that.
Asf ❗️
Thanks makes sense!
Yes, that is true. That's something that I doubt will ever change. I just always try to remember that I was in their shoes once .. and respond accordingly.
I was thinking the same,..it's smart to window shop to make an intelligent decision,..just be discreet about it !!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 this comment is the ONE! Omg!
Louis, MO
Awe, that means a lot! Love positivity. Thank you so much! 💚
JstrawBerri join a grad chapter in your home city
Or do a general membership.
Is there a ahe limit to join a grad chapter
Is there an age limit for joining a grad chapter??
Robin Young No, there is not an age limit
Can't wear certain color it you're not a member. Sounds similar to street gangs Bloods and Crips.
I said the sane thing
+joy mason LISTENNNNN! That is SO real! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I learned so much. This was a great video!
As a grad chapter member, this is one of the best videos ever! Thank you sorors for making this.
Thank you 💚
You ladies can keep your secret organizations... sounds like too much work. You keep saying it’s a lot of work, a lot of money. If you’re trying to convince us to join, you’ve failed.
Dawny B agreed
(“Brainwashed baby prostitution”)
(“Colors don’t belong to y’all wtf”)
PrincessByn123 there’s other videos
I know this is the do's and don'ts but the things y'all are saying is MICRO PETTY. Look up Shaakira White do's and don'ts. They are more approachable and are willing to help. You guys are basically saying google and choose, like wtf. Bye Felicias
😂😂😂
I thank God for my older bro’s.
This video hit close to home because as younger members in these organizations/chapters, your insight is always spot on! LISTEN TO YOUR PROPHYTES NEOS!
Valencia is so pretty! I enjoyed her!
She said thank you!
Loni Dorn try having a regular conversation . Attending events and introducing yourself will show your interest.
I’M VALENCIA! 😊❤️ I love finding black womens named Valencia, someone thought it was a southern thing because I said most Valencia’s I find are from or live in the south, I only know one other Valencia and we are both Iowans
I really enjoyed the information that you two gave, it reminded me of talking about my old fraternity.
+Eric Fluellen thanks for watching!
What if you can’t dance/ no rhythm is that a deal breaker for a sorority?
+Motherof Anactress lmaooo lowkey, that’s a common struggle from what I see 🤷🏾♀️ so no, I wouldn’t say it’s a deal breaker.
Thank you
Practice 😂😂
You can be the person who walks in front of the line with the hand mirror, to lowkey tell everyone to get out of the way.
Motherof Anactress 😂😂😂 noone cares about your dance skill (unless u want to be apart of the Step team)
The first video that I watched by Shea Miller. Awwww. I’m so proud of you dear sister.
Love this! I am part of a multicultural/latin-based organization and so much of this applies
Thanks for watching!
Most orgs ask if you've ever been part of another org, so I do not believe anyone would be allowed to qoute, unqoute, switch orgs.
If you're interested in any org, stick to nuetral colors like white, black, grey, dark blue, maybe beige when attending any events.
went to several events and still missed the Spring line, everything is so secretive, who you know. I'm graduating in the Fall and the lines are OVER!!
You ain't neva lied. It cost to become a member, stay a member and nalia is a whole nother game.
Just wanted to let you know that both of you have great information. Thank you so much.
Thank you! 💚
Awesome video!
I've watched a lot of different videos on the subject and I appreciate all the good tips.
I like what you said about helping out anyway you can. That's real.
Very well done, sorors! Great advice for prospective undergraduate members.
+EduStarConsulting thanks Soror!
VERY GOOD VIDEO Ladies! 👍 I pledged Delta many years ago and I agree with all that you have to say. ❤
I feel like my dad life change but it's funny. So when we go out anywhere and he see someone that's a Omega like him they talk like they best friends and they have known each other they whole life I thought it was weird but I'm old enough to understand.
Girl, ALWAYS lol it's like once we see those letters/colors we automatically bond.
I’m a incoming freshman right out of high school and this helped me a lot. Thanks ladies keep being classy💕🌹
Ummmm and yes this also applies to grad chapter as well!!!!! Thanks ladies good info for IG’s. OOO-OOP!!!!!
This is why I absolutely love y'all! 😂😂
I can just imagine your facial expressions lmaooo.
Do you guys ever feel like you're paying for a friendship?
+Moriah Parker I personally don't...because these friendships are not a "given" or mandatory. Just because you join my org, I don't HAVE to be thick as thieves with you. These orgs provide leadership development opportunities, networking, resources, opportunities to give back to kids and families in need, etc. so it's really deeper than just the friendships. That's an added bonus.
Shea Miller so basically the dues being paid is going back into the community?
+Moriah Parker no.
it goes back to the organization like their HQs and it helps to grow the org on other campuses/grad
Moriah Parker Paying for friendship?Never heard of that before. I have developed awesome GENUWINE relationships since joining my organization.
Awesome Advice Ladies! I am a Delta and agree with everything except... you know what- smiles. All love.
Good suggestions. This can be applied to Alumni chapters as well.
yet nobody saying anything about hazing ❗️ that should’ve been #1 !
Why? This video topic has nothing to do with hazing. There are videos for that elsewhere.
I didn’t say this video I said nobody “SPECIALLY” from sororities DO NOT TALK ABOUT HAZING which is VERY important since young people have died from the effects...
Yeah letters can definitely be beer goggles 😂😂
You know what this information is so beneficial. It will take work and effort the fraternities and sororities don't play around when it comes to the letters. I can't believe people actual go window shopping or don't go to the events that's sad.
I don't understand the whole color thing I know lots of people who like green and pink and they are not in sororities and they wear it all the time
Yessssss, when I get into college I’m definitely gonna do my research before I pick any sorority. I already have one in mind. 😆
Good job 😉 best first step!
Great video and very informative Sorors! 💗💚💗💚
+Jennifer Miles thank you! 💕💚
Jennifer Miles Great video and these Sorors have ALOT patience for some of these comments 😂💕💚
Awesome video! Your friend, Valencia gave some great advice!
Ok soo first don’t come for these ladies they aren’t saying “omg join my sorority or so”they are promoting you to maybe become Greek you have to be smart as hell to become a Greek member most of y’all aren’t Greek I’m not but I was looking at it
Lefty kept sayin' KAPsi. Instant LIKE!
I accidentally stumbled upon this video while researching about a fraternity. I found this video to be very helpful. Shea Miller you are a cutie :)
I am so happy I looked at this video! Thank you for your advice. Really appreciate it.
WEAR WHATEVER COLORS YOU WANT- THEY DON'T OWN RED AND WHITE JUST AS THE AKA'S DO NOT OWN PINK AND GREEN.
That's what I was thinking …. WTF LOL
@@mariejones9606
They're like a lil gang
@@sherrie8221 Right.
I cant get over your hair!!
Thanks Shandy!
This video was very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for viewing 💚
I have a question tho, I’m the type of person where I like to see the brotherhood in action and how they work together etc. So would it be a problem to actually see those organizations before I make a decision to see who is genuine from who is not?
this was actually very informative
I’m so interested in the AKA sorority I’m still doing a lot of research , but i barely have rhythm so is strolling , and stepping a big part ? Are there some members who just do community service? And how is the initiating process?
Can't window shop? Sounds so petty.
Sorry!
I enjoyed this! Great job sisters in Greekdom!
This is sad
No problem hun. Good luck with everything!
Are u saying I can’t wear the colors at all, or does it imply if your interested in the organization and u we’re the colors
Good video! Very informational.
informative
this "owning colors" thing sounds so gangish. yikes
School’s own brand colors right? Political orgs? Non-d9 orgs and clubs too ... even RUclips has the red lol but okay.
Right. It's a serious matter.
@@SheaMiller No one "owns" colors though regardless.
Would it come off as window shopping to go to multiple graduate chapters events (same organization) ?
Very helpful. I LOVE IT! Thanks😌
Thank you ladies for your honesty
Thank you 💚💚
I have a question, if a person wears glasses and their in the probate and they have to wear a mask how would that work, has anyone one of yall ever experienced something like that?
+Acquired Taste i took my glasses off but I’m sure people have worn them before. They may fall off though. I’m sure it would be worked out.
Love this video sorors!! 💗💚🐸
J Update: I’m now a Brother of The Most Honorable Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated. 8.24.19 9:14:25pm QU4D C4UB TAIL C4UB.
Great Video Shea! I remember researching myself and wishing I had more of these! 💚
+ZeeBee_1908 thanks Zee!
I'm 1 st...much respect .you are doing great.you are both pretty young women.❤💖💕
Thanks so much Kristin!
Definitely stamp this video as on point!!! K A PSI Tre Klub!!!
Silence is golden!!!
If someone works full time and goes to school time, but they’re interested it, are the orgs flexible with their schedule?
I would assume the same do's and don'ts apply to guys when wanting to join a Fraternity.
Overall, yes they do.
This really helped. Thank you so much ladies. You are amazing 🌸🌸
Since it’s life long
Do you get paid for anything as a member and committing to an organization
Greetings.....I like your Channel. I have a question.....I love two AKA Songs....but I'm not an AKA. I also love the colors Pink and Green together. I hope none of this is disrespectful for me to like this stuff especially since I have Never and Never will disrespect any real Organization
Hello Shea,
I go to a private PWI, that doesn't have any Greek life whatsoever, and Ive always had interest in joining one. Is it frowned upon to go to another school for their Greek life? or are we only allowed to join if we go to that college or university?
Great Job Sorors!
I really enjoyed this video and gave me a eye opener/ useful tips on Greek Life!
Thanks for watching!
