- April 21st is my AKAversary, yaaaaay! This is year FOUR for me and as the QU4D of my line .. it's only right that I celebrate this as my "golden" year.
I promise I tried to make this video as short as possible but CLEARLY I just start talking and don't know when to stop lol. These are just some of the things that I wish that I knew before joining a Greek organization and that I think may be beneficial for others who are interested in joining one to know.

as a member of a D9 org.....i think you should be able to have these real conversations with the members of the orgs so that you can make an informed decision. Beware of those who try to come for you cause you have on "their colors" or who try to come at you because they know your I interested. intimidation is for suckas and if you encounter that while info gathering.....is that something you want to be a part of?? Use your wise mind when making this type of decision....i love my org and you have to make sure you pick an org that speaks to you purpose/spirit and not to the image you think you are becoming a part of. It runs much deeper than that!

Yes there are christians involved. ..... because some 1, has convinced them its okay. Jesus refers to this as the blind leading the blind. Your videos are very insightful for a people interested in joining an org. Everything you said Im learning now 7 months in. Its about what you bring to an org, everyone is your soror not your "sister", and the physical and financial commitment. Its a little stressful but I love AKA.

I've lowkey been binging your videos.. Greek stuff is so interesting! I don't think I would join one rn, but I definitely love learning about them from actual people. Tbh, i kinda get nervous though because I have so many questions that aren't invasive, but like very elementary I guess. Idunno. Like for example, how does being in your particular sorority impact you mentally and does it make interactions with other sororities awkward?

Can you join a sorority without living on campus, I have a daughter but I’m going to a 4 year university this fall
Your videos are so helpful I've only seen sigmas on my campus in the last 4 years so it's very hard to ask and to come by sorority members . Most of the line are dead so I'm hoping in grad school I can get more insight

So I know the main thing most Greeks say to someone interested in joining an organization is to do your research but how much should someone know? I know of course the founders day and probably where the organization was founded but should we know the founders names and things like that? Basically my question is can you know to much about an organization before you're even given the opportunity to join the sorority or fraternity?
Nia Hines You should know all of the founders. There is no such thing as knowing too much. The more you know the better.
In my personal opinion, anything you can find on the national website/wiki is fair game. These are things you'll be required to know and remember for the rest of your life anyway if you become a member.

Good afternoon,Shea let me first start off by saying I am not a member of any D9 Org but I have a whole bunch of friends that are and I've been around the Greek culture for quite a while. I've watched a few of your videos and I have to say I really like what you're saying. If possible could you make a video on how Greek life has change kind of a old school to new school video. I think it would be good for this generation to know the difference. You seem like you know your history on Greek life so I really would like to hear your views. I feel like asking someone about joint Greek life is so taboo and that really is discouraging...I have a millions questions in my head but can’t even begin to word correctly or ask the correct things!
+Amirah Morreale take ya time guh. It’s not necessarily taboo .. just practice discretion. It’s all about finding the right person to ask the right questions to.
I have a few questions!
1) If I pull a current member to the side what should I tell them? I know I'm supposed to be discreet so how do I tell them I'm interested without telling them?
2)If I ask a current member for their phone number will they know whats "up"?
3) If I do get their phone number I don't want to annoy them. When I text them should I ask them about their day, etc.
+PrincessDes I wouldn't recommend directly saying "I'm interested" but maybe you can be like "can you tell me more about what you all do" .. as far as particular topics that may interest you. Just kinda show interest deeper than just joining. If you ask for their number randomly, they'll likely catch the hint lol so that's risky business. They may not respond. I personally was that type when I was undergrad, kinda skeptical of why you want my number now...so I didn't give it out and hated for people to give my number out. But since you know someone that's a member, maybe you can ask her? She'd be the safest bet lol I can imagine how intimidating that was!
Queen As my Soror said,you can show your interest by attending events . Personally, I would not ask anyone for their phone number. I know I wouldnt give mines out to a stranger💕💚
Now, I Know That This Is A Sensitive Topic But I Know A Lot Of Women And Men Who Are In Organizations Have The Questions About Hazing. Which Hazing Is Hardly Discussed But What About Hazing ? Does Hazing Really Go On.

Don’t ask! Randomly stumbled upon your video. Rather informative! Suggestion. Rhetorically speaking! How many hours a month would be the expectation for your service activities? How many ladies were on your line? Is your line really close? How often do you speak to them? How long did it take you to decide on your organization? Did you have Greeks in your family before going through the membership process?

Should you trust/get to know just one person in the org or multiple people when showing interest. I heard you can't tell everyone your interested even if they are in in org because not everyone has an position.

I have 2 questions. This one is for me. Would the organization have a problem if you work at a job that have their colors during the interest to actual process of getting accepted? This one is for a family member who is scared right now. What to do if you were completely blind, meaning: wasn't exposed to the D9 organizations in high school, had transferred from a community college and didn't know that they weren't suppose to walk in to an interest meeting (didn't know there was any research involved)?
Just using this as an example, if you were interested in DST and worked at Target .. I would simply suggest that you never wear your Target uniform to a DST event. By doing that, you're separating the two and if someone just so happens to roll up on you at work ... you're at WORK to earn money. It shouldn't be that heavy but some Greeks are pettier than others. I would understand.
I'm confused on what the problem was with your cousin walking in to an interest meeting? I take it they're interested in the org now, but how could you walk in to a whole meeting unaware of what was going on? Lol but what happened to make them scared? Got called on and didn't know info? The best thing I could suggest would be to first, toughen up a little. These people are PEOPLE. Don't be afraid because tbh, I wouldn't want to join something I was scared of. Second, brush up on that history and go to the next event more confident than the first time. This would show the members of that org that you're now serious and more prepared than before.

How do you find out about the official interest meeting? Because at my university I don’t ever see any flyers etc given out with info about the informational meeting.
+Annie Love I worked on campus along with someone who ended up being my LS. We were at the counter & she just got up and ran to the board .. I was like tf wrong with you? Lmao she took the flyer down & made a copy & that’s how we knew. They disappeared hella quick tho because people do stuff like that. Take it & keep it .. so you gotta always just be on the lookout!
how do you find out when rush week is or when is the proper time to submit your application. also would it be weird to randomly make small talk with one of the members if you're in their presence but have never spoken to them before? I am having a hard time finding out the first steps in being acknowledged.
+Franky J bulletin boards! It'll always be posted. Now some campuses are more "strategic" with placement (i.e. Only put 3 flyers up, only put them up for a certain amount of time) but you just always have to be on the look out. The app submission may differ through orgs. With most it should be submission only allowed at the official rush event. And small talk wouldn't necessarily be weird unless you make it weird. It's usually not what you say but how you say it that makes a situation uncomfortable.

Shea this was great! Qu4d love!! Almost everything you said are things I've said at meetings and told the girls that came. Our chapter is small so you have to be ready to work! People see us in the halls and think we're cute in our attire but don't know how hard we work. I can say my neos were ready and worked hard! Thank you for your honesty, glad you shared this! I was like you, SGA, orientation, Pre-Law, Working in admissions and AKA + my family. We put in work and you come from a lineage of workers ☺️ #OGlove

+Coolkid Laya no, I don't think it would be too overwhelming at all! Timing is really up to you...you kind of have to have an idea of what works best for you. If you can jump right in to it, awesome. If you're the type to have to observe first, maybe not.

Hi, i have one question . I was reading on the organization that i'm interested in website and it said that information about when to submit your application would be posted around the campus and you touched on that, can you tell me how i would go about on finding out when the organization would be getting ready for the upcoming intake process ?
Every campus is different so you may have to literally hawk out to find it. With mine I only stumbled across it when my coworker (who ended up being my LS) spotted it during our work shift lol. It was crazy. By going to the "week" events (ex. my sorority usually does Skee-week) .. you'll probably find the most helpful info.

Thank you. Some sororities you'll have to wait a semester to get grades at that institution under your belt but, it's up to you. I don't want to say wait .. but I don't want to encourage you to jump in to anything either. Only you can really determine when you're ready.

To join undergrad you can join however long you’re a student . After graduation you look into joining your local graduate chapter. Age doesn’t matter. There are people 70 yrs who just joined.

First if all why can't you ask questions before you join a sorority? How can I make an informed decision without any real information? I am questioning the whole process and if I feel safe or comfortable doing so if everything is so hush. I think it's an unfair practice to not talk openly about the sorority but other things about it is fair game and all over social media......just saying seems like total BS

I never joined an organization because I was trying to finish early. Now I have two freshmen entering college whom I hope pledge but this all seems to ridiculous. They are great kids and hard workers but begging for interest and not even being able to ask questions, geesh. My people, my people 🙄
Candace Harris You can ask questions but be mindful of the relationship you have with the person you are asking. You wouldnt ask a person interviewing you for a job the same things you would ask your bestie😁.

+Safara Ashanti thank you! 💚 with my community service (for the app) I gave it to my staff advisors for the orgs I did community service in to let them give me an official number. Just in general, my school also had a system where we could keep track of the info.

hey...why were you thrown into so many roles your first year as an AKA? 😨 I’m interested in become apart of the divine nine and want to be an active member but I have other task. Would i have enough time to be in a sorority and have an internship, take 15 credits, etc?
Grades! People don’t stress the importance of keeping your grades up enough & you have to have to have a certain GPA (may vary chapter to chapter) to be eligible to hold a position. You can have time for whatever you make time for. It’s many ways to contribute to your org if you can’t find time to always be there physically.

Nope! At that time I had an uncle & cousin that are Sigmas, a cousin that’s an AKA and a cousin that’s a Zeta .. they didn’t care lol they ain’t pay my dues either so 🤷🏾♀️ my family isn’t really Greek org involved.
Shea Miller my dad(Sigma) offered to pay if I pledge. When I told what grad chapter I chose he took back his offer. He wants me to go Zeta under his wife, but that's never been in my heart to do.
If it’s not in your heart, don’t do it. I have a friend that literally told me the same thing yesterday but a different org. Her mom wants her to be a legacy. But i understand where he’s coming from .. he wants you to be Blue Fam .. he may come around.
