Beware of those who try to come for you cause you have on "their colors" or who try to come at you because they know your I interested. intimidation is for suckas and if you encounter that while info gathering.....is that something you want to be a part of?? Use your wise mind when making this type of decision....i love my org and you have to make sure you pick an org that speaks to you purpose/spirit and not to the image you think you are becoming a part of. +PrincessDes I wouldn't recommend directly saying "I'm interested" but maybe you can be like "can you tell me more about what you all do" .. as far as particular topics that may interest you. Just kinda show interest deeper than just joining. If you ask for their number randomly, they'll likely catch the hint lol so that's risky business. They may not respond. I personally was that type when I was undergrad, kinda skeptical of why you want my number now...so I didn't give it out and hated for people to give my number out. But since you know someone that's a member, maybe you can ask her? She'd be the safest bet lol I can imagine how intimidating that was!

So I know the main thing most Greeks say to someone interested in joining an organization is to do your research but how much should someone know? I know of course the founders day and probably where the organization was founded but should we know the founders names and things like that? Basically my question is can you know to much about an organization before you're even given the opportunity to join the sorority or fraternity?
In my personal opinion, anything you can find on the national website/wiki is fair game. These are things you'll be required to know and remember for the rest of your life anyway if you become a member.

+Franky J bulletin boards! It'll always be posted. Now some campuses are more "strategic" with placement (i.e. Only put 3 flyers up, only put them up for a certain amount of time) but you just always have to be on the look out. The app submission may differ through orgs. With most it should be submission only allowed at the official rush event. And small talk wouldn't necessarily be weird unless you make it weird. It's usually not what you say but how you say it that makes a situation uncomfortable.

I have 2 questions. This one is for me. Would the organization have a problem if you work at a job that have their colors during the interest to actual process of getting accepted? This one is for a family member who is scared right now. What to do if you were completely blind, meaning: wasn't exposed to the D9 organizations in high school, had transferred from a community college and didn't know that they weren't suppose to walk in to an interest meeting (didn't know there was any research involved)?
Just using this as an example, if you were interested in DST and worked at Target .. I would simply suggest that you never wear your Target uniform to a DST event. By doing that, you're separating the two and if someone just so happens to roll up on you at work ... you're at WORK to earn money. It shouldn't be that heavy but some Greeks are pettier than others. I would understand. I'm confused on what the problem was with your cousin walking in to an interest meeting? I take it they're interested in the org now, but how could you walk in to a whole meeting unaware of what was going on? Lol but what happened to make them scared? Got called on and didn't know info? The best thing I could suggest would be to first, toughen up a little. These people are PEOPLE. Don't be afraid because tbh, I wouldn't want to join something I was scared of. Second, brush up on that history and go to the next event more confident than the first time. This would show the members of that org that you're now serious and more prepared than before.

Lmao she took the flyer down & made a copy & that’s how we knew. They disappeared hella quick tho because people do stuff like that. Take it & keep it .. so you gotta always just be on the lookout!
Should you trust/get to know just one person in the org or multiple people when showing interest. I heard you can't tell everyone your interested even if they are in in org because not everyone has an position.

I was reading on the organization that i'm interested in website and it said that information about when to submit your application would be posted around the campus and you touched on that, can you tell me how i would go about on finding out when the organization would be getting ready for the upcoming intake process ?
Every campus is different so you may have to literally hawk out to find it. With mine I only stumbled across it when my coworker (who ended up being my LS) spotted it during our work shift lol. It was crazy. By going to the "week" events (ex. my sorority usually does Skee-week) .. you'll probably find the most helpful info.

Thank you. Some sororities you'll have to wait a semester to get grades at that institution under your belt but, it's up to you. I don't want to say wait .. but I don't want to encourage you to jump in to anything either. Only you can really determine when you're ready.

To join undergrad you can join however long you’re a student . After graduation you look into joining your local graduate chapter. Age doesn’t matter. There are people 70 yrs who just joined.

Grades! People don’t stress the importance of keeping your grades up enough & you have to have to have a certain GPA (may vary chapter to chapter) to be eligible to hold a position. You can have time for whatever you make time for. It’s many ways to contribute to your org if you can’t find time to always be there physically.

Nope! At that time I had an uncle & cousin that are Sigmas, a cousin that’s an AKA and a cousin that’s a Zeta .. they didn’t care lol they ain’t pay my dues either so 🤷🏾♀️ my family isn’t really Greek org involved.
Shea Miller my dad(Sigma) offered to pay if I pledge. When I told what grad chapter I chose he took back his offer. He wants me to go Zeta under his wife, but that's never been in my heart to do.

I have 2 questions. This one is for me. Would the organization have a problem if you work at a job that have their colors during the interest to actual process of getting accepted? This one is for a family member who is scared right now. What to do if you were completely blind, meaning: wasn't exposed to the D9 organizations in high school, had transferred from a community college and didn't know that they weren't suppose to walk in to an interest meeting (didn't know there was any research involved)?
Just using this as an example, if you were interested in DST and worked at Target .. I would simply suggest that you never wear your Target uniform to a DST event. By doing that, you're separating the two and if someone just so happens to roll up on you at work ... you're at WORK to earn money. It shouldn't be that heavy but some Greeks are pettier than others. I would understand.
I'm confused on what the problem was with your cousin walking in to an interest meeting? I take it they're interested in the org now, but how could you walk in to a whole meeting unaware of what was going on? Lol but what happened to make them scared? Got called on and didn't know info? The best thing I could suggest would be to first, toughen up a little. These people are PEOPLE. Don't be afraid because tbh, I wouldn't want to join something I was scared of. Second, brush up on that history and go to the next event more confident than the first time. This would show the members of that org that you're now serious and more prepared than before.

How do you find out about the official interest meeting? Because at my university I don’t ever see any flyers etc given out with info about the informational meeting.
+Annie Love I worked on campus along with someone who ended up being my LS. We were at the counter & she just got up and ran to the board .. I was like tf wrong with you? Lmao she took the flyer down & made a copy & that’s how we knew. They disappeared hella quick tho because people do stuff like that. Take it & keep it .. so you gotta always just be on the lookout!

Should you trust/get to know just one person in the org or multiple people when showing interest. I heard you can't tell everyone your interested even if they are in in org because not everyone has an position.

+Safara Ashanti thank you! 💚 with my community service (for the app) I gave it to my staff advisors for the orgs I did community service in to let them give me an official number. Just in general, my school also had a system where we could keep track of the info.

+Coolkid Laya no, I don't think it would be too overwhelming at all! Timing is really up to you...you kind of have to have an idea of what works best for you. If you can jump right in to it, awesome. If you're the type to have to observe first, maybe not.

Hi, i have one question . I was reading on the organization that i'm interested in website and it said that information about when to submit your application would be posted around the campus and you touched on that, can you tell me how i would go about on finding out when the organization would be getting ready for the upcoming intake process ?
Every campus is different so you may have to literally hawk out to find it. With mine I only stumbled across it when my coworker (who ended up being my LS) spotted it during our work shift lol. It was crazy. By going to the "week" events (ex. my sorority usually does Skee-week) .. you'll probably find the most helpful info.

Thank you. Some sororities you'll have to wait a semester to get grades at that institution under your belt but, it's up to you. I don't want to say wait .. but I don't want to encourage you to jump in to anything either. Only you can really determine when you're ready.

To join undergrad you can join however long you’re a student . After graduation you look into joining your local graduate chapter. Age doesn’t matter. There are people 70 yrs who just joined.

hey...why were you thrown into so many roles your first year as an AKA? 😨 I’m interested in become apart of the divine nine and want to be an active member but I have other task. Would i have enough time to be in a sorority and have an internship, take 15 credits, etc?
Grades! People don’t stress the importance of keeping your grades up enough & you have to have to have a certain GPA (may vary chapter to chapter) to be eligible to hold a position. You can have time for whatever you make time for. It’s many ways to contribute to your org if you can’t find time to always be there physically.

First if all why can't you ask questions before you join a sorority? How can I make an informed decision without any real information? I am questioning the whole process and if I feel safe or comfortable doing so if everything is so hush. I think it's an unfair practice to not talk openly about the sorority but other things about it is fair game and all over social media......just saying seems like total BS

Nope! At that time I had an uncle & cousin that are Sigmas, a cousin that’s an AKA and a cousin that’s a Zeta .. they didn’t care lol they ain’t pay my dues either so 🤷🏾♀️ my family isn’t really Greek org involved.
Shea Miller my dad(Sigma) offered to pay if I pledge. When I told what grad chapter I chose he took back his offer. He wants me to go Zeta under his wife, but that's never been in my heart to do.
