In this video guitar lesson series I will show you how to play “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses in it’s entirety.
Released on their Lies EP, “Patience” went on to top the charts in with what was a surprising acoustic departure for the band.
This lesson series will be in two parts. In the first video lesson I will demonstrate how to play all of the chords and progressions as well as the intro guitar solo.
Since there are many acoustic guitars being played at the same time on the original recording, I am teaching a condensed version of the chords and chord progressions. In other words, I am sorta picking the best or most important parts and putting them into a part that can be played with just one guitar and still sound close to the original recording.
In the second video lesson I will teach you note-for-note how Slash plays his highly melodic guitar solo. Slash has two solos in this song and the first solo will be taught in the first video lesson.
I think this lesson will be a nice challenge for the intermediate guitarist. It uses mostly basic chords, but there is a lot of melody work being played within those chords that you will need to play in order to make the song sound correct. It will probably take a little bit of practice to be able to confidently have those melody notes come out over the chords.
The main solo is also a nice challenge, especially the second half of it where Slash employs many large bends in very low positions of the fretboard. Doing these bends on an acoustic guitar can be very difficult.
Alright that is about it from me. Enjoy the lessons!
    Carl…

All the dislikes are from Izzy stradlin and slash. They don't like Carl showing their secrets. It's like Bruce Lee when he was teaching Kung Fu to a bunch of white boys in the 60's. Thanks for sharing Carl.

so, I was sitting in my living room for like 5 hours writing what you said in chords and tablatures, (while I was playing it on my guitar obviously, curious fact: writing it helped me to learn everything faster) so I sacrificed my low back and bed time (its 5:45a.m. where i live), but I can finally say I know how to play this song so it was all worth it, big thank you

I first visited this video about 2 years ago when I first picked up guitar and I remember struggling for hours to get the timing of the notes/ pull offs down while strumming the chords and I eventually made it as far as I could and gave up. Something inspired me tonight to try this song again and I picked it up almost immediately, so to all you new guitar players keep going, I still am not a great guitar player but the stuff that seems impossible in the beginning shouldn’t scare you away

I've played this song for years, but without all the little fills and nuances you teach in this lesson (largely because I didn't know how to play them). I've since incorporated some into my own playing, which makes the song sound more full. Thank you!

What about the walkdown in the verse from C to G? Is that only the bass guitar or is there a bit of a walkdown in the acoustic guitar arpeggios as well? You say it's the same chords but more subdued, which I understand but I feel like there's a very obvious walkdown that isn't being addressed.. Am I wrong?

Rorschachxx1985 If you're good with learning things by watching people play search in nightrain niko slash cover. You can kind of watch how he plays the outro then use youtube's slo-mo thing for the faster parts. That's how I learnt it. It takes longer but niko slash is the only guy I know who has got it completely perfect note for note :)

my opinion about bands that don't want their music taught..is it should not be so...a real musician knows that...it some way shape or form....we as humans need music....it's a scientific fact
rather it's a person that has to be able to hear a song...or a person where listening to a song is not enough they have to be able to play it!!...either way know matter song
..no matter how popular the band that created the song...the song should be put out there for those to Learn...as much as it is for those to listen...MUSIC IS FOR ALL OF LEAST ONE THING EVERYONE AGREES WITH...WE NEED IT!!!!!!!
