Cathy (and Indi): Thanks for sharing part of your {Sanity Recharging Time). I grew up in Eastern Oklahoma, USA. Some years ago, I had the need to "Live On The Streets", as in "Homeless". After I retired to Social Security, I now have an apartment on my own. Peace, Long Life, & Health to All.
When I was doing agility with my dogs and camping because I couldn't afford hotels I always zipped two bags together for us. It was very warm with two dogs in the bag and they loved it. We've also been camping with cats and they liked it inside the bag too!

Ha ha, thanks David. Legend...love it. I think I was born with a little craving for outdoor adventures in me and ended up with the right family to foster that. We were out in the mountains every moment possible. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate the support.
Hi Cathy 😊👋, enjoyed this video and look forward to your next adventures, the rain sounds were excellent put me right in relaxation mode, had to fight off sleeping lol, love your dedication and care for your channel and us ☺️👋
@@adventureot it did, I was having a really tough day today and about 15 minutes in I started to relax thanks for everything Cathy and Indi too, btw do you have a cat? Because if you do I really love cats and it'd make my day if I saw one in your videos, as always much love from Canada ☺️👋
2 hours of full pleasure watching this video Kathy. You picked another beautiful area to set your camp up in for certain. You definitely have a sharp eye on the great places to put your camera to use. And I think that if the mouse chose to spend time under those campfire rocks surrounding your campfire, the coals surely were quite safe to disperse on the ground. Thanks again for letting us spend more time out in the beautiful New Zealand landscape. Take care and I will see you on your next video.
Thanks for the feedback. I agree, I feel like if I rush over things and edit the trips down too much it doesn't give time to absorb the slow pace of the actual experience. These trips usually aren't go go go intense, so part of the accurate 'story telling' is to let the experience speak for itself.
I like a good mix. I like shorter o b es for when I don't have ti.e to commit to watching an hour+video, but the longer ones are great for when you have an entire evening to watch!
I love camping alone with my dog, but as an Aussie I've been spoilt with much dryer weather so I always try to avoid going away if it's meant to rain. But watching you brave rain, hail and snow makes me feel weak, and like I'm missing out because you make it look easy and beautifully relaxing cuddled up by a fire listening to the rain. You're inspiring me to get out there no matter what the forecast says! Thank you for sharing your adventures and giving us aspirations to be more like you!
I definitely understand the attraction of fine weather camping so you can take be free to move about camp and not be too restricted to sitting in a tent. Wet weather camping just offers a different experience I suppose. Never anyone else on the track (they are home with a cup of tea, he he), so I get the place to myself. And then there is exactly what you describe, the cosy set up where you feel justified to just sit and listen and relax. If you have a nice set up rain camping can be SO awesome. Just be warned though, the clean up at home afterwards is a mission! My washing line is currently loaded with wet , smoky camping gear, lol.
One th ing that baffles me about so many camping youtubers, is that hey put so much effort into setting up a lovely campsite, only to only stay 1 night! If i put that much effort into something, i would want to stay at least a couple nights!
You might find that most of those You Tubers do spend longer at camps when with family and friends recreationally and not filming and editing it as a trip for YT. I personally have to ask myself how much value is added for the viewer in seeing me spend that extra night there. Does it add real value to the video or not, because time is precious. Already most trips include two full days of packing, driving, hiking in, camping, hiking out, driving home, unpacking and cleaning and managing gear. The extra night or two adds a lot on top of that. Hope that makes sense. Only my take on it of course.
Hello, always enjoy your videos. The birds sound are amazing. Seems they like the rain. Do you see many goats at your campsites. I have heard they are an introduced species. Look for the video. Take care, Grace n KY
Hi Gracie, thank you. Yes I think the birds love light rain and bursts of sun, they always seem most active in their songs around that time. There are a lot of goats in parts of NZ but not so much in this area. Top of the South Island, yes definitely.
Thanks. I’m lucky where I live and where I camp. There is not a lot of things to be scared of. Plenty of things to entertain an over active imagination, but not real risks.
Cathy, this was a great video. The length did not bother me. I watch the first hour one night and the other hour the next night. It would be really difficult to get too much Adventure OT! I’m already looking forward to your next one! Take care!!

Hi, I have only just discovered your camping vlogs a couple of days ago and am thoroughly enjoying your adventures vicariously, thanks for posting and best wishes, I am now a devotee.😄 BTW, do I detect a vague hint of south African there?
Sensational Stuff Cathy and Indi. Love your Starters ..Superb Dining.. but i would have eaten the Costello with that glass of red...view from campsite across the fire is marvelous 😊. Highlight of an evening is cook time,as the birds begin to roost, and the rain continues to fall.Bread bags x2 next trip😂..ATVB2U Both Scott Somerset England UK
Hi Cathy & Indi👋 Vivian here. Another ENJOYABLE Vid ✅️ [ 2hrs long] Woo-hoo 👍 Indi is ADORABLE 💯 Till then..✌️😎 P S How were the Chops?? They looked 'delish, so had to ask😉
Oh the chops were sensational. When editing the video I realised I didn't have footage of the consuming of the chops or reflection on how delicious they were and I think that must have been because I was too busy partaking in consuming them. He he.
lol I share my name with your dogdog. Whenever you call her, I instinctively look up😄 Doing study with your vid on the desk next to the books. Nice and relaxing.
Observation: When I watch New Zealander’s camping videos, I hear fascinating bird calls (I am a birder). I would be interested in knowing what these birds are.
I can identify some of the bird calls but not all, so that is a nice challenge for me to inform myself. I too love native birds. I will add some info/observation in to my next video when there is a noticable song/call.
So I'm going to watch all your videos to see if I have been at them. I love the out doors but don't get out enough due to life. (life:work money health time)
Porters pass will never be the same again after a tourist came around that corner on the wrong side of the road forcing us to almost go off the bank at the top of the hill. Used to be a fun snow ball place.
They are pickled, so have that pickle taste. They go really well with seafood. They are quite salty. As far as I know they are little seed pods that haven't yet flowered.
We have all sorts of mosses and lichens that grow on our trees. I'm not sure which specific one this is. The black growth is a sooty mould fungus that grows on the Beech trees.
I always love your adventures. I wondering if you going to set up a patron account. I would love to support you that way. And you keep more of the money RUclips will give you
It’s a tricky balance finding the perfect length. Personally my preference is around 45min, but this time I found myself cutting out so much content that it felt like I owed it to the trip to include snippets of everything. The great thing with YT creator stats is that everyone ends up feeding back in the sense that watch time and audience engagement is captured, so I’ll work out very quickly what length is best for the majority.
Fully agree with your comments on the modern world.... less and less human connection... everything is online, shops are becoming a thing of the past, even pubs are less common, people debate on social media instead of face to face... its becoming a strange world.
yip, we are social creatures, and all the research (that I have seen anyway, lol) suggests we are happiest and healthiest when we have meaningful connections with others. These days we just have to put more effort in I think.
Yes I've looked at a few of those. Mostly they are a bit bulky in the way they fold up, so not so easy for light weight hiking. They also tend to be single walled so condensation builds up. I am not against them though so am keeping my options open. You might see me in one, one of these days.
How does the RUclips algorithm work for fast forwarding? Love the videos but who has 2 hours spare to watch the entire video. Was led to believe that fast forwarding negating the $ algorithm. I'll continue to watch but fast forward will be used !
The YT algorithm is a funny ever changing creature (lol), or so it feels, so I am not 100% sure. What I do know is that loads of people fast forward. What that does is gives creators insight into what they like, because what you choose to skip and what you stop at and watch is captured in a line graph so we can see peaks and troughs according to what content engaged people. So I think just do what is right for you and that will give me the feedback I need to see what is engaging people most. Thanks for even considering this. I appreciate it.
One of my favourite things to do on RUclips is to watch camping videos, especially in stormy conditions. I have enjoyed watching yours but I prefer a shorter more condensed video. Sorry, I don’t think I’ll be watching this one.
Thanks 'All About Live' I loved your comment, seriously. It was so validating for me because I've made 50 videos so far and never once ever faked the rain (except for overlaying a rain layer over the thumbnail in Photoshop, but that's obvious, which is the point, everyone knows capturing falling rain drops in a still photo is impossible for a noob photographer, which I am). Cheers.
IS RUclips unsubacribing us from certain channels? I have subscribed to your channel along with some others 2 or more time!! Enjoyed the video and subscribed again!
Oh no, I hope not, although someone else mentioned the same thing to me a while ago, so I guess it must happen some how. Certainly not me unsubscribing anyone (lol). THANK YOU for subscribing again!! Really glad you enjoyed the video.

Yay, thank you, that is so nice. Oh yes indeed, good spotting. I grew up in Johannesburg.
Thank you Scott. Yes I think you are right Costello and red wine would have made a winning combo.
You have a lovely country there maybe one day i will visit.
It is lovely , thank you. 😊👍
From West Chester, OH - Thanks Cathy and Indi. Good video. Thanks for sharing the adventure but I much prefer the shorter versions
Thanks Linda, and I appreciate your feedback.
Hi Cathy & Indi👋
Vivian here.
Another ENJOYABLE Vid ✅️
[ 2hrs long] Woo-hoo 👍
Indi is ADORABLE 💯
Till then..✌️😎
P S How were the Chops??
They looked 'delish, so had to ask😉
Oh the chops were sensational. When editing the video I realised I didn't have footage of the consuming of the chops or reflection on how delicious they were and I think that must have been because I was too busy partaking in consuming them. He he.
lol I share my name with your dogdog. Whenever you call her, I instinctively look up😄 Doing study with your vid on the desk next to the books. Nice and relaxing.
Hope it's not distracting you from your studies (lol). Glad you are enjoying the video.
I ❤watching you and Indie loving up on each other ❤ from E. Tennessee
It is so easy to love that adorable girl, she just loves cuddles.
The forest looks like Mirkwood the way that it lays out in rows in JRR Tolkien's maps from about 54:29.
I had to go back and re-watch that portion, but I see what you mean now. Thanks for watching.
The brid life in NZ is amazing. If you ever get the time to visit NZ,just go.😊😊😊
The most common bird sound was probably a bellbird.
So I'm going to watch all your videos to see if I have been at them. I love the out doors but don't get out enough due to life. (life:work money health time)
There can be so many obstacles to getting out hey.
I wish I could find a place where I can say "I really like it here". Still looking
Good luck 😉 🤞🏻 🏕️
I laughed so hard about your boots steaming 😅😅😅
Yes kind of funny and gross at the same time, lol.
@@adventureot 😂
Thanks for a lovely video, good on you. Do u ever see others on your expeditions. ❤😊
Thank you. If it is a weekend I usually pass a few parties of people on the track and say hi, but midweek I often don't see anyone.
Indi looks lonely wandering around in the grass…think she needs a pup playmate eh 😅😅
Now now, are you trying to temp me into getting another dog (he he)
one glass of wine is fine cheers love
Yip, I'm not a big drinker, but I relish a little drink once camp is set up. More of a ritual than anything.
Porters pass will never be the same again after a tourist came around that corner on the wrong side of the road forcing us to almost go off the bank at the top of the hill. Used to be a fun snow ball place.
Yikes, that would be really scary.
👍
Thanks
I've never had capers. Are they like pickles? If so, I would love them.
They are pickled, so have that pickle taste. They go really well with seafood. They are quite salty. As far as I know they are little seed pods that haven't yet flowered.
What is the grass or moss like stuff on the branches of wood you have
We have all sorts of mosses and lichens that grow on our trees. I'm not sure which specific one this is. The black growth is a sooty mould fungus that grows on the Beech trees.
❤
Thanks
Does indi require more food since shes hiking and active?
No not really as we already feed her based on her 'working dog' active breed. She is active most days so her diet is designed around that.
@@adventureot ❤️
I always love your adventures. I wondering if you going to set up a patron account. I would love to support you that way. And you keep more of the money RUclips will give you
Thanks Bob, that is really kind of you. I am looking into Patreon and will let you all know if I sign up. Cheers.
We are getting cold rain here going to turn into snow overnight. Our biggest snow storm. Schools and most facilities will be closed
Yikes, that sounds like a big storm. Hope all is well.
@@adventureot definitely was , now it's melting 😁
1 more hour, it would be as long as a AB Camping video
yip
Even 2 hours is too much. Aw hell no. I stopped watching AB because of the length.
Was that a Tesla you pulled up in?
Well spotted.
What about a. Pop up. Tent. Would. Keepvu dry
Yes I've looked at a few of those. Mostly they are a bit bulky in the way they fold up, so not so easy for light weight hiking. They also tend to be single walled so condensation builds up. I am not against them though so am keeping my options open. You might see me in one, one of these days.
Without the meat it would have been a gorgeous video. ⛺🌲
Ok
GLAD YOU FOUND YOUR SAW ,YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF A TABLE NOW YOUNG LADY, IT MAKES LIFE EASIER EATING OFF A TABLE
Yes that would be luxury for sure.
@@adventureot WELL GET ON WITH IT
You need camp slider 👞 👟 🥿
That I do! Yes indeed.
why have dog out in rain
Hmmm, yes, that is definitely a worthwhile question to ponder. Another question to ask ourselves would be .... why have dog stuck in house?
dogs ride better in front seat!
ok
One of my favourite things to do on RUclips is to watch camping videos, especially in stormy conditions. I have enjoyed watching yours but I prefer a shorter more condensed video. Sorry, I don’t think I’ll be watching this one.
No problem. Thanks for letting me know.
LOL wtf theres no rain hahaha fake
It happens often and doesn't seem to be targeted just glitched
