I love your show, the dog is very smart and watches you very closely at all times , that’s great. You love her so much and take wonderful care of her. Your adventures are so interesting, thank you. The mountains are so awesome, keep up the good work. Linda Wilde from. Ohio USA.
While RUclips loves and encourages shorts (which drive me mad), your hour long magical videos are amazing. I adore your channel, its simply the best. Your next Anniversary is going to be even more epic. Thanks Cathy.
Thank you so much Ian. I agree about the shorts, too easy to get trapped in a mind numbing death scroll. I make longer content because I think it is good to engage with an idea or experience for long enough that you can relax into it, rather than just scroll on when it isn't giving the full on Dopamine hit. Thanks for the support.
So true. I absolutely love rain on a tent/tarp/umbrella. It was raining here at home last night and I got out of bed and went outside just to stand under an umbrella and watch the rain for a few minutes. The sounds, smells and sights of rain are so therapeutic.
I appreciate your work you put into your videos, getting these amazing content for us. Running forward and back, to replace the camera. And than cutting and editing all the material in a entertaining footage ❤ Thank you for your passion❣️
Thankyou so so much for your appreciation of our efforts and your generous donation! Haha yes, it can be tricky running forwards and backwards setting up all the shots but I manage despite often wild conditions. Your kind words mean a lot and thankyou for consistently watching! 😊 - Cathy
Congrats for your first year of videos. Your banter and laughs are brilliant - and all the rain looked so real! 🤭 Also cheers for showing the neat way to set up a tarp tent - very stylish.
Thanks 🎉Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! 🎉 I’m so glad you made the choice to post those first videos. You’re an absolute fixture in my life. 🙏🏻
That's awesome, so glad you are enjoying the channel. Thank you for the support. I really really do appreciate it and it make a big difference for me. Cathy
Thank you for sharing this content with us. Really appreciate the background unseen efforts that goes into creating the fantastic content. Thanks again. Cheers. Wini
Down to earth camping show, great lady, makes you feel at home with her show. Keep up the great camps,..by the way, the log shields you spoke of are to stop the wind blowing flames and sparks into your tent,..all the best, Alan, Bendigo, Australia.
Happy one year of bringing us along with your videos. I am so glad you live in this time in history - a woman camping alone even 50 years ago would have been difficult but you have such a skill set that shows how life for women has evolved. In all weather you manage to make me smile and bring interest into my life. I love when you are able to take Indi along she is such a good girl and a great companion. Looking forward to your spring /summer camps. NZ is such a stunning country. Cheers from Australia.
Fire reflectors which I use in the wintertime is mainly to improve the radiation heat from it either around the campfire or radiating heat into your tarp setup. It is so great to have a nice warm tarp setup to fall asleep in the wintertime. Smoke loves to follow us around. . My best advice from experience is to setup your tarp so that the wind blows perpendicular to the tarp opening. The smoke will not come into the tarp or your face since it is blowing across the front of the tarp opening. If it rains or snows you still will not get rain or snow into your tarp setup, nothing new there since you camp in the rain much more than I do. I do camp when it is snowing and love it and also rain at times. Colorado mountain winds change direction a lot of times after sunset, so a good weather forecast is a must around here to know the wind direction change. The joy you show camping, makes me want to pack my backpack and as you say, head out into the bush...
Yes the smoke can be relentless when it decides to follow you around (lol). I'm going to try a bit more of a side on approach next time. Thanks for that suggestion. I am glad my joy of camping shows through. Yes, grab that backpack and head out. Good idea.
Congrats on your one year RUclips anniversary 😅😅All of your campsites look unique and well laid out…keep dry and warm as much as possible in each of them 😊😊
Happy 1 year anniversary! Love your videos! New Zealand is so beautiful! Your tarp tent set up was very cool! Greetings from northern Illinois, USA! Love Indi too! Such a good girl!
Just found your channel and subbed. You made it look so easy but I know how hard it is wild camping in those conditions with a dog because your always worried if they are warm enough and OK. Really enjoyed the video, beautiful views and beautiful dog. Atb Bill and his three tick magnets.
Thanks so much! Yes you are spot on, it looks easy because I’m loving it and in my happy place BUT there is challenge and that responsibility for another being is always on your mind. Thanks so much for stopping to say ‘hi’ by leaving a comment 🙂
Amazing how you set the tarps up, 1 as a tent and 1 as a cover, simply brilliant, never seen that before, just goes to show that you don't need tents to enjoy natures best, thank you again for the awesome content
Thanks, yes there are all sorts of ways of setting up shelters. It is quite fun seeing all the different ideas people come up with. Thanks for watching.
Hi, Building the log wall behind the fire is to project the heat towards you however to stop the smoke not so much but a little , absolutely great video, really enjoyed watching, thank you 🤝
Thanks. I thought that was probably the case. It's a good idea I think if you have the time and resources, especially in those freezing snowy conditions that I often see people using them in.
@@adventureot if you watch (Mathew posa ) he uses this method many times as he mostly camps and builds in snowfall conditions and explains different methods on fire building 🧐, I have followed and watched Mathew for a few years now amongst many more and always learning wild camping and bushcraft. Hope this helps and thank you for your reply, you have a great channel and you will do very well indeed 🤝🫡🇬🇧
Just watching this Dec 2 and just in 2 months you have exceeded 5000 subs..5,022 as of today..congratulations and another amazing video...The rain so relaxing and watching you and Indy always a joy..
Another great video! I always get excited when I see you’ve posted a new video. It’s good to see your channel is growing. Thank you for taking the time to edit and post your video. Am looking forward to your next one! Take care!
😁 thanks, there was a bit involved, but I enjoyed the process. It’s fun creating a little ‘nest’ 😂 and then getting to reap the rewards of a warm dry camp 👍
Hello from Sweden! I just discovered your videos and I am enjoying them so much - thank you for making such beautiful videos and sharing the amazing nature of NZ - for someone on the other side of the planet, it’s all quite exotic!
That is great, I am glad you are enjoying them. It's so funny because when I think of Sweden I think of exotic. I guess anything unfamiliar is exciting and new.
Always enjoying your videos. Happy one year!! I must say you are amazing. It looked so easy when you put up your tarptent and you explained so clearly. Looking forward to next video. Happy camping!!
Tarp tent camping is my favorite. So many different configurations along with the prospect of combining it with a bushcraft frame. If you're interested cut down there two inch tree poles and use paracord to make a tripod. Set one of the tree poles more horizontal than the other 2, and wrap a tarp around the structure. With a large enough tarp you can pull each side of the tarp into the structure to make a tarp floor, let the bottoms of the tree poles hold the tarp down. For the door you can feed paracord through the grommets to tie it in like you're lacing a shoe. You can improvise in other ways to make a door. With a big tarp opening of the door to the back of the tent can be about 7 1/2 feet which is plenty of room. Tree branches with leaves can cover the top. I did this last winter and it was excellent. This is my preferred tent for camping
Congrats on your one year bringing us along exploring your beautiful country 🙂. You could use a bivi bag in the tarp tent. It'll keep your sleeping bag dry.
Thanks, and yes good idea on the bivy bag. I’m keeping my eye out for a second hand one to add to my gear for times like this. One tarp and the bivy bag would make a nice light weight option.
Aww. I'm so glad I ran across your channel! So refreshing to find you, a very down to earth, real girl camping with an amazing dog. Cheers from upstate NY. 💜🙏🌷 subscribed.
I have been watching camping videos for a while and would love to give it a go. As a woman I thought oh man can I do this and then I found you. Thanks so much. I know some of the connects are well 😅. But thanks a for the inspiration. ❤
you are correct about the heat being radiated back at you, but smoke is also attracted to uprights and that screen would attract it and keep it from blowing your way. keep it up. thoroghly enjoy your videos
Thanks Chris. Makes sense. It always looks like a lot of work to me building those, but I tell you, it would feel well worth it not to have smoke in your face all evening 😂
Another great adventure. Congratulations on the one year 🎉 a big thanks to you for sharing with all of us. Your super awesome. Really enjoy your content. See you in the next ones. Stay safe and keep camping 🏕❤️🔥
Happy 1 Year Anniversary! I have so enjoyed this past year watching your videos! Love your content and love Indi! Looking forward to watching your Summer camping adventures while I endure Winter here in the Midwestern US.
You are very welcome 😊. Hopefully your winter isn’t too harsh. I love the change of seasons and variety they bring, but I bet it gets pretty cold where you are 🥶
Hi Cathy! Enjoyed the video, another lovely campsite. I like the variety of what you show, be it scenery or how to set up. I will give one vote for showing more of your hike up to the site.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a lovely comment. I love your ‘vote’ and will take that into consideration for sure. Watch this space 👍
Met 2 of your countrymen (actually one was a woman) in the hiking trails of Mt. San Jacinto. They thought I was a New Zealander. Ha! I don't have an accent, was born in Los Angeles. Lovely couple though as we talked while gazing from 8600 ft, down into the Coachella Valley. Maybe it was the backpack stenciled name. Getting in shape to camp in Long Valley campground at 9000 ft. The tram ride here is world renown, don't miss it when you come to Palm Springs. Steve
😆 yes you can often find New Zealanders travelling the world and hiking in distant places. We certainly love yo travel. Looks like you live in beautiful country! The aerial tramway looks amazing. Definitely on my travel list now👍
You always find beautiful spots to camp. From what I understand there’s no wild animals or snakes? I have a question for you, the ground blanket you’re using outside the tarp tent, the plaid blue blanket you’re sitting on, what is the name and where can I find it?
Yes there are no scary critters here, we are very lucky. The blanket is really nothing special. It was given to us as a Christmas present in a hamper so I am not sure where it came from to be honest, but I searched up 'waterproof picnic rug NZ' and found this, which is almost identical www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/instock-%28r%29-massive-xl-waterproof-check-picnic-blanket-check-2-x-2-meter-red/M20036145.html
@@adventureot Thank you for your help anything is appreciated when help is needed. I would love to see New Zealand, it looks just beautiful and to be honest I love the rain!😂
@@adventureot now I’m sad, that link was perfect and I was going to order that ground blanket but they only ship within New Zealand. Thank you for trying to help!
Happy one year anniversary to you both😊Its nice to see Indie out with you again. She is lovely and very affectionate bless her.I liked your tarp tent. What a great idea as i bet it cuts down some of the weight compared to a tent. Those silly comments make me laugh as people have such a mistrust of people 😂😂 Not noticing the self ignitor is an easy mistake to make lol.I am sure as you go along and try more products it will click in naturally and you will notice those things instictively so its a learning curve 👍 Another very enjoyable adventure thanks for bringing us along 👍
Thanks Phil!! I think you are right, many people have many reasons to feel untrusting of others. I try not to surround myself with that so I forget. Ironically I think faking things while camping would just make the job so much harder 🤣 best way is just to get on with it and bring others along for the ride, whatever that turns out to be. 😁
@@adventureot You are welcome. You have people who appreciate your work so i think that is most important. Those others need to work on themselves !! I don’t blame you.I just let negativity go over my head these days but luckily there are more good people in the world then bad people and i personally think the events of the last few years is the world being cleansed to make way for a better world for future generations 👍👍
Hi, Cathy & Indy👋 Congrats on almost 5k.👏👍 I've watched & enjoyed all of 'em .💯 Even the ones w/o "Indy. I'm a animal lover so that says lots. Meaning, I would prefer U had 'Indy w/u all the time[I get it tho] Anyway, Ur Vids r delightful 😊 Hug 'Indi for me💋❤️😍 Till then ✌️😎
Thanks so much. You and me both, I would love Indi to be on all the trips too, but….the National Parks are so gorgeous and wild and special that it would be upsetting to not enjoy them because I can’t take Indi. I’m trying to increase the Indi to non-Indi ratio to 2/3 of trips 👍
Yes smart idea. Next time 😉. This time I hoped to get away with just the waterproof rug as it’s so much warmer than a ground sheet. I just forgot that it’s so blimmin small.
Me too, but it's been 7 years of babying this foot and my hope of healing is almost non-existence. Diabetes is an evil disease. Fortunately, I can almost smell the fresh air through your adventures, so thank you.@@adventureot
If Indi is not with me and I’m packing light for a climb up high altitude then around 12kg/26lbs (includes 2.5kg of camera related gear). If she is with me and I’ve got the odd luxury it’s closer to 20kg (44lbs).
Yes I think you're absolutely right. A wall in front of the fire will deflect and influence the air towards the fire. It will do actually both things, reflecting the heat and perhaps deflect some of the smoke directly albeit into your face but it's never perfect. Your tarp arrangement though, for your vestibule i love the idea. Although, I thought from your tent towards the fire is all wrong. For the way the wind as it is behaving. The tarp is sloped higher from the fire and lower towards the door of the tent which allows the rain /run-off if any and or smoke to be directed under your tarp to flow up and then be captured down to flow towards the front enterance to the tent and into your face. A little bit of Off I'm thinking here. If The tarp was to be sloped down a little more towards the fire, and higher towards the tent the wind would be less apt and not be so inclined to trap as much air, to rise and come up underneath the high end of your tarp as it is, and force aIl the undesirables down towards the lower tent entrance and invariably into your face. Everything would be opposite. But then again hot air always rises. Hindsight is always after the fact and therefore harder to predict than foresight. The wind to me seems to always change 180° from daytime to night-time anyways. Most definitely it is hard to handle all the variables and it is a hit and miss. Sometimes though you do get lucky. I've heard it said once; Blessed is he who is flexible, For they won't get bent out of shape. I love your episodes. Thank you!
Thanks Steve, lots of good points there. There's payoffs with every option, hey. With the tarp this way I get the height and view out front, with some wind protection from back and sides, but yes, it funnels the smoke right into camp, which is definitely the downside. You are right about switching winds too. I think I might try the side on to the wind idea though and see if that helps. Cheers
lol, now there's a good question. I don't know actually. You have got me thinking. Is it just me that says that? Hmmm, no, I think it must be a southern hemisphere thing.
No worries about missing the igniter in the stove. As campers/backpackers, we are all guilty of little crimes like that at one point of adventures!!!🤣🤣 let’s just keeping enjoying the outdoors…..
your not a growly person r you, I see that with how you love Indie... but you have the cutest try to growl voice I must say... thankyou for another great camp...I enjoyed your car camping too
😂 yup, that’s spot on. I’d rather not growl unless I think it’s in her best interests. I’m lucky though she’s easy natured and doesn’t need much guidance to stay in line. She’s all about connection so as long as we’ve got that she listens well.
Great video, however you have 2 tarps now setup so why not just use one tarp in a tarp config, a frame or many other choices and just put bivvi bag under that. Saves weight and hassle setting up 2 tarps.
Yes, agree, bivy bag and one tarp makes more sense for practicality and weight. Just did it this way for something fun and a bit different. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much 😁!! yes I think there can be a lot of scepticism and pessimism out there in the world. It’s hard for some people to trust others. I understand why. Ironically though in my videos I’m aiming to showcase the natural world because it is so true and honest and a refreshing break that takes us back to basics. It is so calming for my busy mind. I’m honestly working too hard and I’m too tired to bother faking anything. Things like that just require more work and eventually trip you up. 😎
Put the door on the opposite of the wind Otherwise why don't you just go that Walmart that's on the other side of the tree line there I'm a smartass. I'm just saying
😂 okie dokie, thanks. I googled closest Walmart though and turns out as the crow flies it’s over 11,000km (7000 miles) away, not just beyond the tree line. I’d better start walking 🥵 (and swimming) 😉
I love your show, the dog is very smart and watches you very closely at all times , that’s great. You love her so much and take wonderful care of her. Your adventures are so interesting, thank you. The mountains are so awesome, keep up the good work. Linda Wilde from. Ohio USA.

Loved the video tell i seen the fake wood hahaha 🤣 jk i just had to, happy one year thank you for all the great camping content.
😆 thanks
Oh no 😞
Happy one year anniversary to you both😊Its nice to see Indie out with you again. She is lovely and very affectionate bless her.I liked your tarp tent. What a great idea as i bet it cuts down some of the weight compared to a tent. Those silly comments make me laugh as people have such a mistrust of people 😂😂
Not noticing the self ignitor is an easy mistake to make lol.I am sure as you go along and try more products it will click in naturally and you will notice those things instictively so its a learning curve 👍
Another very enjoyable adventure thanks for bringing us along 👍
Hi,
Cathy & Indy👋
Congrats on almost 5k.👏👍
I've watched & enjoyed all of 'em .💯
Even the ones w/o "Indy.
I'm a animal lover so that says lots.
Meaning, I would prefer U had 'Indy w/u all the time[I get it tho]
Anyway, Ur Vids r delightful 😊
Hug 'Indi for me💋❤️😍
Till then ✌️😎
Thanks so much. You and me both, I would love Indi to be on all the trips too, but….the National Parks are so gorgeous and wild and special that it would be upsetting to not enjoy them because I can’t take Indi. I’m trying to increase the Indi to non-Indi ratio to 2/3 of trips 👍
A groundsheet under the tarp?
Yes smart idea. Next time 😉. This time I hoped to get away with just the waterproof rug as it’s so much warmer than a ground sheet. I just forgot that it’s so blimmin small.
Another lovely adventure with you and I'm STILL following my doctor's orders staying off my foot. lol
Oh boy, I hope your foot gets better really soon!!
Me too, but it's been 7 years of babying this foot and my hope of healing is almost non-existence. Diabetes is an evil disease. Fortunately, I can almost smell the fresh air through your adventures, so thank you.@@adventureot
You are so welcome. Ah man,
Diabetes is not a kind disease 😞 I’m sorry to hear that is what you are up against.
Hi how much does ur pack usually weigh? Thank u❣️
If Indi is not with me and I’m packing light for a climb up high altitude then around 12kg/26lbs (includes 2.5kg of camera related gear). If she is with me and I’ve got the odd luxury it’s closer to 20kg (44lbs).
Yes I think you're absolutely right. A wall in front of the fire will deflect and influence the air towards the fire. It will do actually both things, reflecting the heat and perhaps deflect some of the smoke directly albeit into your face but it's never perfect. Your tarp arrangement though, for your vestibule i love the idea. Although, I thought from your tent towards the fire is all wrong. For the way the wind as it is behaving. The tarp is sloped higher from the fire and lower towards the door of the tent which allows the rain /run-off if any and or smoke to be directed under your tarp to flow up and then be captured down to flow towards the front enterance to the tent and into your face. A little bit of Off I'm thinking here. If The tarp was to be sloped down a little more towards the fire, and higher towards the tent the wind would be less apt and not be so inclined to trap as much air, to rise and come up underneath the high end of your tarp as it is, and force aIl the undesirables down towards the lower tent entrance and invariably into your face. Everything would be opposite. But then again hot air always rises. Hindsight is always after the fact and therefore harder to predict than foresight.The wind to me seems to always change 180° from daytime to night-time anyways. Most definitely it is hard to handle all the variables and it is a hit and miss. Sometimes though you do get lucky. I've heard it said once;
Blessed is he who is flexible, For they won't get bent out of shape.
Cheers
My Friend Morgan ( my doggy ) Lays here and watches Indy with real interest.
That is so cute. Hi Morgan.
"surplus to requirement", I like this phrase a lot. Is it a Southern Hemi thing, or a you thing?
lol, now there's a good question. I don't know actually. You have got me thinking. Is it just me that says that? Hmmm, no, I think it must be a southern hemisphere thing.
Awesome! Language is so interesting.@@adventureot
No worries about missing the igniter in the stove. As campers/backpackers, we are all guilty of little crimes like that at one point of adventures!!!🤣🤣 let’s just keeping enjoying the outdoors…..
😂 thank you!!
❤
Thanks Jeanasoy
🎉🎉🎉
😁
great video! and quality what camera do you use to record
Thank you 🙂 I’m use a Sony a7iii
Check with either Tony of AB Camping or Abel. They both do the what I call 'pyramid- like' rock wall for their fire.
Thanks. I aspire to their amazing fires 🔥
your not a growly person r you, I see that with how you love Indie... but you have the cutest try to growl voice I must say... thankyou for another great camp...I enjoyed your car camping too
😂 yup, that’s spot on. I’d rather not growl unless I think it’s in her best interests. I’m lucky though she’s easy natured and doesn’t need much guidance to stay in line. She’s all about connection so as long as we’ve got that she listens well.
@@adventureot I love seeing that interaction between you n Indie she's gorgeous
What type of work do you do? I understand if you don't want to disclose that .. just curious
I work in a health profession 🙂
@@adventureot awesome 👍👍
I’m sorry, my English isn’t that good, but I hope I’ll be understood 🙈
No problem. Your English is perfectly understandable. Thanks again.
Where is this place , country?
It's New Zealand.
It's to bloke the wind so the smoke doesn't get in your face and to direct the the heat to you
Cheers
hey i am planning on making videos like this whats your best advice
Be yourself, viewers enjoy authentic content. Don’t wait to perfect it first, just start and let it evolve. Best of luck 😊
ok thank you so much @@adventureot
It drys the wood and then slowly use it on the fire
Ah ha 👍 thanks
Great video, however you have 2 tarps now setup so why not just use one tarp in a tarp config, a frame or many other choices and just put bivvi bag under that. Saves weight and hassle setting up 2 tarps.
Yes, agree, bivy bag and one tarp makes more sense for practicality and weight. Just did it this way for something fun and a bit different. Thanks for watching.
May i know the Dog breed?
Indi is a short haired border collie crossed with a black Labrador
do you see alot of snakes i hate them
No not here at n New Zealand. No snakes 👍
😂😂😂
🤪 happy to entertain 👍
I think you are amazing your sense of humor makes me laugh keep up the good work❤️
Congratulations on 1 year! Sounds like another utuber that i follow. He was accused of it all being fake as well.
Great video, please please don't throw sticks for your dog. So many dogs die through sticks damaging here throat.
Thanks for your nice comments about the video and your concerns for Indi.
Ciao
Peccato niente traduttore
Good point. I’ll see what I can do to add subtitles in some other languages 👍
if you see a button of any kind always press it - 😝
😆
you should close bihand the tent otherwise smoke bother you
Thanks, good idea
Put the door on the opposite of the wind
Otherwise why don't you just go that Walmart that's on the other side of the tree line there I'm a smartass. I'm just saying
😂 okie dokie, thanks. I googled closest Walmart though and turns out as the crow flies it’s over 11,000km (7000 miles) away, not just beyond the tree line. I’d better start walking 🥵 (and swimming) 😉
