I would make a "shacket" out of the plaid fabric. You know, an oversized shirt you can use as a jacket. That would take the place of the bomber as a layering piece. And maybe use the lighter wool to make a maxi skirt to go with it? Since the plaid has both black and brown, it would look great with both the black denim and the wool. Can't wait to see your makes!
Uvita is wonderful, kind of a boat neck, not raglan but sleeves are off the shoulders. It is my entry for sew frugal. Interesting set of patterns. Thank you.
I think the Mood shirt, with the sleeve, would look great in the green stripe. The pattern looked a bit fitted for the flannel, though that will look lovely as a shirt too.
Some lovely ideas Alex. Really love how you've approached this challenge and the pattern pics you've mentioned. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing what you make 👏👌
Ooh some great ideas there thank you!! Love the idea of a denim skirt, lago tank bomber jacket outfit!! Also love the mood shirt with the unusual sleeves, looking forward to seeing what you make! 😊
I made a bomber jacket and looked at the mood one but it doesn't have that typical collar if I remember correctly so that's something to keep in mind and maybe alter.
Blueprint DIY is a you tube channel which confers a lot of reasoning denim, including making skirts out of jeans. I’ve watched her since king before I got my sewing machine this Christmas s she’s inspiring (even if some of the ideas are a bit too much for my style, I love how creative she is).
Thanks for some new options Alex. I am thinking of making a dress for project dress a girl. I did that last year and I was really happy to be ahead of the September challenge. Maybe I’ll get two things done but I somehow doubt it. Lol can’t wait to see your denim skirt. Thanks again.
Thanks, Alex. You could always make a jacket with snaps, or buttons, leaving the scrap of tan for your neckline, but the cuffs and bottom more open, you’d need to measure and so forth, but an idea. I’ve a ton of really nice wool from the 80’s when my parents had a fabric store, and I inherited her precious stash, I’m determined to use it! This would be perfect, and I most likely do have a useful zipper and ribbing. Or I might leave it open. Not my idea, read it in the comments below the Mood bomber jacket.
Lekala has a lovely free button up shirt/blouse pattern (it's free if you print it without seam allowance) that I think will need less alteration for the plaid shirt you're thinking of. The instructions are sparse so a novice would need other resources for how to construct a stand collar, for example. I wasn't cool enough for those bomber jackets in high school but my sister had one in black and orange.😁
Thank you for the video! I love the Satin Bomber! I won't be making it for sewfrugal23 since I will redraft/do a full bust adjustment AND buy new fabric for this one in late March at a Dutch fabric market. I'm really thrilled to have something worth splurging on nice fabric on, especially since I can find the perfect ribbing etc at the market! I appreciate you mentioning it sooo much!
Love these ideas Alex. I've made the Spoonflower denim skirt and I love it. It took me a couple of tries to get the fit how I like it and now it's a TNT. I've also downloaded the button front skirt but am yet to make it. Looking forward to seeing your makes
That was fun! Denim skirts, again, huh? I haven’t had one for a long time, but it is one of the most wearable garments. I really like the idea of making it in black. 😊 -Deborah
Wonderful ideas Alex. Good reminder to support the companies behind the free patterns. I bought another pattern from Itch to Stitch a few years ago and tossed in the Lago since it was free. I keep thinking it was a waste since I have to stay completely covered but using it layered under an open shirt would work. Now to check my stash for fabric. It hardly takes any fabric so shouldn't be a problem
I’ve ordered from Spoonflower, but I didn’t realize they had free patterns! Thanks, Alex, for highlighting patterns that are new to me. I fell in love with the button up skirt and the first bomber jacket you showed. The I2Stitch Lago is a go-to for me. The first one I made was from Dino fabric left from a project for my grandson; It’s my favorite. 💗
Ooh yes I remember the green bomber jackets with orange lining! The Melia shirt will be fab in that green stripe - lovely plans Alex, looking forward to seeing what you get done 🤗
Wow, great ideas and fabrics as always. I especially love the mid-century fabric for the tank top. Hope you find enough time to get lots of sewing done 😊
Hi Alex. Oh I had a black bomber with Orange lining in the late 80s - we wrote all over the inside of it! I love the Lago vest pattern - I’ve made lots and even lengthened into a summer maxi dress. Looking forward to seeing which pattern you pick xx
I made the Uvita for last year's challenge, and coincidentally need to make it this year for my Mum, hopefully this month. I love a shirt too - quite like the unusual sleeves on this one. Thanks Alex, great vlog as usual!
Hi Alex managed to squeeze in watching this before take off! Loved the pattern choices, so will definitely check them out once I return. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. ❤
Love the video, Alex! You picked a few that I had chosen also and I’m going to see if I can do a real quick edit so I can have other options for people. Looking forward to your makes!
great take on the challenge! i love the idea of doing a button-front denim maxi. you could wear the trend but in a less stiff fabric than traditional denim. long skirts that don't have any movement are not a very good look on me.
I’ve been thinking of a bomber jacket and also found the mood one but I don’t love the collar or where the rib meets the zip - will check out the other one and see if the size will work! Thanks for a great video, look forward to seeing what you make 😊
Great. Idea. I was all enthusiastic about a denim skirt but then I checked and I had used up my one piece of denim. Might have to be a cord skirt. I have made the lago tank - just a word of warning - it is a semi racer back so if you don’t like bra straps on show you will need to redraft the back armscye.
Thank you for another great video Alex! Love your work always 🥰 What I love about sew frugal is all the references to free PDF patterns. I believe ALL PDF should be free. Probably salient here is that I hate them 😂 You and your viewers might enjoy Johanna's video (Threads Magazine videos) on making a bias tube which I've done a few times. For silk infinity scarves and for skirts and 1/2 slips. I have several silk 1/2 slips made with this method. Fun to do and actually you can make continuous bias tape using this methodology. ruclips.net/video/-emWRbc9f_M/видео.html The other person who can help you create your own patterns is Sew Custom. She is awesome!
Thanks so much, I'll enjoy watching that video later - I'm team PDF as you probably know, i but I almost always send them to be printed because the sticking A4 paper together part is my idea of booooring.
@@AlexJudgeSews In Canada getting PDFs printed and mailed is $$$. Typically between $12-$16. The PDF ($upwards of $20) plus the printing which doesn't include the instructions) could climb as high as $40 with tax. Alternatively indeed sticking together a bunch of sheets is NOT what I want to do with my precious sewing time. Printing in the UK and the US must be much less expensive than here. If you pay $18 for the PDF plus even $10 for the printing + mail costs, it's still not worth it in my opinion. If a pattern company ONLY offers PDF then I take a pass to go to companies (large and small) who have invested heavily in their business to print and stock patterns. Some companies are even getting out of the printed part of their business due to the expense. PDF's have severely hurt these businesses which makes me sad. I have so many thoughts on this whole PDF business. None of it good. 🤫

Say yes to green stripe with puffy sleeve. Fun spring sewing!

Arghh I don't know why I thought they were raglan! I've made a few myself ☺
Love the idea of the black denim skirt and plaid shirt.
I think the Mood shirt, with the sleeve, would look great in the green stripe. The pattern looked a bit fitted for the flannel, though that will look lovely as a shirt too.
I can fiddle with it to make it looser, but yes I'm seriously thinking about making 2!
Some lovely ideas Alex. Really love how you've approached this challenge and the pattern pics you've mentioned. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing what you make 👏👌
Great ideas, thank you! I’m thinking spring colors whatever I decide to make!
Ooh some great ideas there thank you!! Love the idea of a denim skirt, lago tank bomber jacket outfit!! Also love the mood shirt with the unusual sleeves, looking forward to seeing what you make! 😊
Thanks Sarah, I might still make the bomber but with bought fabric - don't tell Sam & Ruan 😂

i love the lago tank. I've made multiple for myself and my daughter
Ooh I didn’t know Spoonflower did patterns!! 🎉. Thank you for taking part in the challenge Alex 😊
Nor did I until I went on a hunt for denim skirt patterns 😄❤

Oh yes! I used to have a maxi length denim button front skirt and I miss it. Thank you for the suggested pattern.
You are so welcome!
Interesting selection. Bomber jackets have been swirling round my head so your ideas are helpful.

Thank you. I'm an advanced beginner and am sewing from my Mom's stash!
Wonderful!
I love the shirt pattern 😍 Might have to add that to the very long list of things to make. I look forward to seeing what you make

Great video with fabulous ideas. I'm keen to try to sew a denim skirt but I've never sewn with denim before. Can't wait for your reveal on 31st.
You can do it!
Haya. You showed some great patterns there 🤩Loving your fabrics 😍Look forward to what you make 🧵Thanku 'sew' much for sharing 🪡✂
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you Alex, I’m really needing some summer tanks, so I’ll check out the Lago. PS: the colors of your top are very complimentary, you look lovely!

I hope so too!
Great selection Alex, thank you very much . I absolutely love the Mood Society shirt, it would look fabulous in the green/white stripe.
Thank you too!
I love the shirt pattern 😍😍 and I definitely think I’m going to look at a denim maxi skirt! Thank you for sharing your ideas xx

Lots of thoughts and great ideas. I’d love a denim skirt but maybe one with a zip. I’ve never sewn with denim so it may be a good idea. Thanks

Hope it all goes well Rosie, you'll be a fab mother of the groom ❤❤
I got fabric printed for facemasks during the pandemic from Spoonflower! they are fab x
Ooh good to hear, one day I'll design my own fabric
Lovely ideas. I have spoonflower skirt pattern in my stash for a while. I think it's time to make it
Go for it!
Some fabulous suggestions Alex, my list is getting longer and longer!
Thanks Cara, mine too 😁

Could you dye the ribbing to match the fabric?…..technically the ribbing is currently in your stash.

can you do a self drafted pattern for this?
Yes, I should think so
