    Our local Kia & Hyundai dealers hand out a little half page instruction sheet on replacing the filter yourself and even recommend a third party cabin filter (Spearhead) that is $13 on Amazon. The service managers basically agree that the Kia/Hyundai price of $30 for the filter that you are supposed to replace annually is too much, and they aren't even carbon filters and they don't want to charge customers another $40 dollars to install it when it takes at most 5 minutes to do yourself.

      They sound like a wonderful dealership. Fantastic customer service! My dealership just quoted me $55 to replace the cabin air filter which was coverd in debris from the trees by my driveway. Plus another $95 to vacuum out the debris they said had fallen down into the AC blower motor. This brought me to here view this video while in sitting in the customer lounge waiting for my complementary oil change to be completed. Thank you for the tip on the more cost effective filter. You and @SpiritedWrenchers just saved me around $135. I watched a quick 10 minute video about how to remove and clean the AC blower motor, before finding this informative filter replacement video.
      Edit: I just sent @SpiritedWrenchers a few $ as a thank you.

    I got reamed at the dealer today. $96 for them to change my cabin air filter $35 for the filter, $25 for labor, and $30 to clean up the 'debris' that they spilled while removing the filter- which I never even asked for them to remove in the first place. I am more than capable of changing the air filter on my own. Sure would be nice if they'd ask if you want them to check it before just apparently carelessly pulling it out and dumping stuff in the hole.

      Thanks for watching and sharing your unfortunate experience. We can definitely understand why your username is WantsANewVehicle after that experience! I have, only once, needed to put my foot down at a dealership for attempting to charge me for a service that I did pre-authorize. It was many years ago, and they did drop the charge, so while it wasn't a good feeling at the time they did make it right for me. Never again did that dealer perform a service without first getting my expressed approval. In your shoes, I would have done the same thing and refused to pay for a service I didn't pre-authorize! At the very least, I would not have agreed to pay the labor or bogus clean-up fee. Not every dealership treats their customers the same, and I hope your experience with them improves or you find a dealer that treats you right from the start. Take care and stay safe!

      Guess I am not alone problem was they did not tell me they dumped debris in my AC. I found out by myself. The problem is how they fix it. If they drop the fan motor that is a real fix but if they use an air hose to blow it out not Good! In my opinion that just blows the debris further into the system. Kind of like a dirty air filter on you HVAC at home and that dust accumulates on the wet evaporator and clogs up. In particular that is why you have a filter it does help the air quality in the cabin but its more about a clogged heater core and evaporator.

    • @wantsanewvehicle
      @wantsanewvehicle 3 месяца назад

      @@GordonLanning Yeah.. the worse part about it is I don't know if 1) they even got 'debris' in the hole or not, 2) if they actually cleaned any debris out or not. Just seems like an extremely easy way to get extra money out of the customer because it's not like you can easily see down in there to see if there are debris or not. Also, if they are a super shady dealer and you decline, I'm sure they could put stuff in there and say "well, we told you it needed cleaned out".

    Is there any differences between OEM filters and aftermarket filters , like from Canadian Tire here in Canada?
    BTW, never did get audio controls (voice commands) to make windows raise or lower.

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Год назад +1

      Hi Andy, Thanks for watching and sharing. We really appreciate it. You can definitely do this yourself. Very easy. In regards to the filters, I'm not familiar with those from Canadian Tire, but the cheaper you go there is a noticeable difference in material quality. Some are very basic and thin, resulting in less filtration. Although we don't feel there is a requirement to go OEM, their products are well made. The prices also weren't far off from brand names at the auto parts stores such as Fram, STP, etc. I have also gone to parts stores and pulled them out of the boxes to compare as well as price comparison. Hope that helps. Stay safe out there.

    I have a few questions (I was looking for the video but couldn't find it) When I have to change my coolant? What coolant can be used for Hunday Santa fe 2022? What is the process to change the coolant if it comes in a different color than the original pink? Or Where can I get the same pink coolant in the car?

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Yulimar; thank you for watching and a fantastic question! The owner's manual states to check your coolant when you stop for fuel (this interval is also quoted for checking the engine oil level, but we feel it's a little too frequent for the standard driver), and for the turbo engines to replace the coolant first at 80,000 miles or 10 years (whichever comes first) and then every 24,000 miles after that. As far as ensuring you are using the proper grade/color of coolant, we would recommend that you call your local dealership to see if you can purchase it directly from them or if they would offer an alternative brand you can more readily purchase from an auto parts store. This is really the best way to ensure that the coolant you are adding meets the specifications for your vehicle and prevent any undue corrosion that can cause leaks and/or major issues down the road. Take care and stay safe!

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Год назад

      Hello! Thanks for watching and asking! There are definitely a handful of ways to get the OEM filters. I walked into our local dealership parts department and got the filters I needed from the service rep at the counter, but if you're not in close proximity or if you just don't like your local dealer then you could definitely order them online from a distributor like hyundaioempartsdirect. I have heard on Facebook of reports that not all dealers will have a reliable parts department fully stocked with all the filters and parts needed for DIY maintenance, or that the local prices are above MRSP, and that's when I would recommend ordering online (and probably buying in bulk to save on shipping). Take care and stay safe!

    Hi, I just a brand new 23 SF Calligraphy this week and just found your channel. You guys provide some really great information for car owners. I do have a question. In the engine bay there was a box with a big red plus sign on it wrapped in some cheap plastic. Is that a fuse box? I actually ripped all that plastic off as I thought it was shipping protection or something. It didn't appear to be covering anything the plastic cover already is. Any thoughts? Keep up the great work. Looking forward to many years with our new ride!

      Hi Bonzo. Thank you very much for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it greatly. Congrats on your new 23 Calli. Foe that box, it's actually the cover for your positive battery post/terminal. It's so large because of the fusible links that are on the battery cables. We were actually happy to see a cover because our Subaru doesn't have a cover protecting it all. The plastic was just a protective cover during shipping and such. We still have ours on, but I don't believe there is any concern if it was taken off. Hope you get many safe miles from your Calli and we appreciate you following us on the channel for more content.

    Great video. I have 12,000 miles on my vehicle. HELP! However, my dealership checked my filter, and it was contaminated with debris on the top side of the filter. When they carefully removed the filter to inspect, they wiped the debris off the top side of the filter, and it fell into the squirrel cage of the blower below. It is impossible to do otherwise because of the size of the blower housing filter door. One. Going forward as a maintenance process. I need to be sure no leaves are outside on the windshield by the wiper arms collecting and waiting to be sucked onto the filter. That debris that fell onto the blower now creates an out of balance issue with the blower and a horrible vibration occurs on speeds of #4-#8 lower speeds of the blower is not an issue. I need a video on how to remove the blower since all video on this process are not applicable for a 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy FWD 2.5 Turbo. Dealership resolution is to take an air hose and compressor and blow the debris out of the squirrel cage. Did that and at first it did not help and then gave it another shot, and it worked. My concern is blowing that debris around and out of the squirrel cage will likely blow it further into the ducts, dampers, evaporator and heater core. All that does is kick the can down the alley so to speak. Really, I think should drop the blower and do it right.

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  2 месяца назад

      Hi Gordon, thank you for watching! My sincere apologies for the delay in response. This is a very common problem in the design of the 4th generation Santa Fe's. The Dealership response is the exact same that I was told when I heard a rattle in my blower (they also noted that me replacing the air filter myself voided the warranty on the blower, so I now always ask before I do any DIY). They suggest first to blow compressed air through the blower, then to drop the blower. My rattle resolved itself, perhaps a leaf that shredded and blew its way through the system.... I actually have a funky smell eeking out my vents and it's been suggested by my latest service advisor that I drop the blower to check it out, and also that it's also very simple to do. We do have a small backlog of projects to get done first, but will add the Hyundai blower to our list. My very limited understanding is that you just need to remove the glove box, and then it's a few screws holding it up. Again, sorry for the delay in response and I'll apologize in advance for any delay in video release on this project. You're doing everything correct and you have a right to be suspicious of just blowing air through the squirrel cage, lest you end up with a stink bug stinking in your vents! Take care and stay safe; we'll post up when we have the video!

    how many miles do I have to change air filter?

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Год назад

      Hi Andy! Thanks for asking. The owner's manual says for the engine air filter, to inspect every 12 months/8k miles and replace every 36 months/24k miles. The caveat is that under more severe driving conditions (as we have), you should always inspect more frequently and expect to replace them more frequently. For the cabin air filter, the manual states to inspect every 12 months/8k miles and replace every 24 months/16k miles; again, with the caveat that if you are driving under severe conditions that you should inspect more frequently and expect to replace them more frequently. We generally replace our air filters once per year unless we happen to inspect and notice something is amiss and replace them sooner. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  3 месяца назад

      Hi Julie, apologies for the delay in response but thank you for watching and asking this! The hybrid engine does have a different layout than the straight gasoline engines. To replace the air filter in the hybrid, you will have to remove the upper cover of the air assembly by thumbing off the cover clamps. It is not quite as straight forward as our 2.5L, but you can still accomplish this in your driveway at home. We were unable to get our hands on a hybrid to take pictures, but I'm attaching a link to a parts catalog that has a great diagram to show you how it all fits together. We also recommend posting in any of the various Hyundai Owners groups/forums as other owners may have more visual guides to help you out. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

    Why does your new cabin air filter say MOBIS instead of Hyndai/Kia like your original one? Are you sure your dealership sold you an original part? Also? What is the normal interval for replacement? I have a 2023 and recently went in for oil change with 8500 miles. I told them not to replace or even check the air filters because I wasn’t going to change them yet. Since then, I’ve noticed a mostly smell coming from the air vents. I also noticed finger print (grease marks) by my glove box when I picked up the car- that tells me they did indeed at least check the filters when I told them not to). I suspect they stole my original filters and replaced them with older filters. I’m watching this video to learn how to check them myself. I’m so mad that the dealerships are so corrupt and no one can be trusted. They steal from their own loyal customers.

      Hi Elsa, thanks for watching and noticing that. I did question it myself, but my second air filter that I purchased from the dealer also didn't have Hyundai/Kia printed on it, and also came from a sealed box. I suspect that auto manufacturers, like the US Government, will go with whatever parts manufacturer is the most affordable. I have the receipt from the dealer should I run into any problems, it would be on them to fix the parts problem. It would be on my to fix any issue with the labor, such as possible debris falling inside of the blower motor which could cause noise, smells, and premature failure.
      The owner's manual interval for changing the cabin air filter under normal conditions is to inspect every 8k miles (the same as the normal oil change interval) and to replace it every 16k miles (the same as every other oil change).
      While it is quite possible that the service technician working on your vehicle is required by their employer to follow this precise instruction, you could contact the service manager with pictures to inquire about your concern that technicians are: 1- handing interiors with greasy fingers, 2- failing to follow customer request, and 3- possibly having ill-intent. Not all dealerships are the same as they are all independent franchises. If you're unsatisfied with your local dealership, I'd advise you to post honest reviews of the service department online and to call Hyundai USA to lodge a formal complaint about your local dealer.
      Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!
