Outstanding! When you solicited comments on this upcoming test, I suggested that you make sure that you design the test so that the dust is suspended in air as it is drawn into the filter, the way it would be in an actual car. All the other tests I have seen on YT have just dropped the contaminants onto the filter surface, which is not at all representative of the challenges a filter will have to overcome in an actual vehicle. I am not sure if my suggestion played a role in your decision to do the test as you did, but either way, you did a fantastic job!
Of course we read your comment! Thank you for bringing it up.We did tons of research into this testing to ensure it was as close as possible to the ISO standard test. Really appreciate all your suggestions and feedback. You support is immensely important to us!

@@ashishpatel350 I clean my cone one every 12 months or so, apparently they can go for longer but what's the point in letting it get dirty when it's for performance
@ProjectFarm (similar channel to Brand Ranks) did a good video on air filters years ago that led me to pick Wix as a balance of performance and projection, I'm curious how this test will compare to that one. I think more viewers of both channels should be checking the other channel out. I drive a lot, I typically change my air filter every 10K miles, or every 4 months. EDIT: After watching, I see that my previous choice has been justified.
@@JamesLPlummer The project farm test was done incorrectly, he just threw the dirt onto the filter. That's going to clog up a filter in a way it was not intended and be inaccurate results. So now gravity and airflow are going to pull dirt through.

Great video. Verry informative. But the masses want to know: K&N or paper. Maybe you could consider including K&N's filters. They have both dry and oiled filters. And the Select dry filters are fairly cheap, especially for K&N.
Very interesting video! Next time try to test: the Mahle Original, the Alco, the Champion and the Hengst. They had very good results at Sergiu Gabor's RUclips channel test. Keep up with the good work!
From my studies, the best engine air filter is the one that actually gets replaced. Questionable new filters are better than old filters already caked with debris.
My last car was a 1995 Sidekick, which I drove for 2 decades. The air filter, like some Suzuki parts are more expensive , about $40 CDN. So I resisted changing it. I learned from desert people to just take out the filter and blast it with compressed air and then check it with a trouble lamp., I do it every year. Half way through about a decade, it had well over 200,000 km on it, I gave in and bought a new filter. Now , with my Toyotas, I added some A/C filter wool just before the filter as rough first stage, and I intend the OEM filter to last for life. I do not drive in dusty areas or desert much. I do the same to the cabin air filter. If you are foolish (or rich) enough at the dealer to authorize cabin filter service, they will ding you for $60, 70 extra. In the old days , well before year 2000, there was no such thing as cabin filters, and I have not heard of anyone who died breathing unfiltered air. In the military maybe at war when they need their NBC filter (Nuke , bio and Chemical) To get more bucks, dealers are also paying more attention to the age of tires, brake fluid, trans fluids etc. The only one left out of the money tree were the mechanics.
I would love to see you test the AEM Dryflow versus the old performance standby, the K&N. The K&N has long been the standard for anyone looking to upgrade, but the tests (with the flawed "drop the dirt on the filter" methodology) that have been published thus far (Project Farm and others) have shown it to not be so good. This is why I do not have a K&N in my beloved Mustangs. I have instead gone for the AEM Dryflow, a cleanable lifetime filter that does not need oiling, and that is supposed to filter much better than the K&N. I would love to know how it stacks up in your superior test method. Also, since the K&N and Dryflow are washable, I would also like to know how well they filter after repeated cleanings. Does the filtering ability decline as the cleaning process removes fibers (something that has been rumored with the K&N)? Incidentally, I believe AEM is owned by K&N, which makes it rather interesting. If I were AEM, I would be marketing my product as having much better protection than K&N while still producing great airflow... but they would not want to harm the sales of their best selling K&N brand!
All amazing suggestions and yes we will be testing AEM and KN both dry and oiled. Very excited to share he results in the next video. Thank you again for all you do and suggestions you make on every video!
To me the way project farm did it, just dropping the dirt onto the filter directly, invalidates the test. that's not how air filters work and k&n was not designed to work that way either! I'm excited to see these guys test it correctly!
I've bought 3 or 4 AEM dryflow cones in the past 2-3 months and their quality control is horrible. Creases and scratches along the filter media and loose rubber on the inside. I used a dryflow on my car the past 1000 or so miles and there is build up of fine dust on the rubber couplers. It's very fine almost like a powder, but I've never seen this with the OEM paper filter. I'm wondering if AEMs quality and filtering abilities have gone downhill since k&n bought them out. My girlfriend has an AFE pro dry s on her intake and when you hold it up to the light next to the AEM dryflow the AFE is noticeably more dense and there are no tiny pinholes in the media like with the dryflow. It seems to be a challenge to find a washable filter that filters as good as the OEM paper filters
@@BrandRanksplease test the AFE pro dry as well. The AFE pro dry and AEM dryflow seem to be the best "high performance" filters you can buy when it comes to filtering ability
Awesome testing! The dyno tests were above and beyond. Thanks so much for the effort and sharing the results. It would be great to include the OE Nissan/Infiniti filter to see how the aftermarket compare.
Thanks for posting. I started using the Wix a while back and love the filters. Not sure where you got the Wix filter for that price. I paid nearly $30 for mine!
Ive used the ecogard filter in my car for 2 years quite and it works fine. My MAF is always clean and my car's performance hasnt had any major problems. Quality is really good too. I use genuine oil filters for the engine, though.
Would love to see premium air filter like K&N or other no-oiling high flow comparison please. And even the results against these traditional air filters just tested. Amazing video !
K&N and similar filters DESTROY engines! My engine got a bad oil consumption and some smoke after 2 years and looking in the intake it was sand everywhere! Might just as well remove the filter all together.... It is GARBAGE at filtering and still about the exactly same pressure drop as a proper high pleat filter since it has much more surface area for the paper filters
Wohoo! Thank you so much for your support and patience as we try and juggle life work and RUclips. We keep coming back for people like you so much appreciated.
Excellent testing as usual, guys. Some feedback - I would have liked to see a better breakdown of the filtering performance. From the graph, it looks like you plotted multiple sizes over time. Would be really nice if they had to disclose some of these performance characteristics like they do for HVAC filters. But then they wouldnt be able to lie I mean market their way out of it. Like HVAC ones are a commodity product with documented characteristics. You pay more you get more objective tested filtration. I think some even say their pressure drop. Idk if thats required.

Yall should do the XGA Fram air filter since they differ trom the extra guard and the dry K&N (Select) air filter maybe even STP (Blue)/STP (Premium/Red) and SuperTech ones as-well
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your support!. Comparing OEMs vs OEMs is very hard since for example Honda wouldn't make a filter for the G35 we are using.
Just watched Project Farm's video about air filters. The WIX is a great all around air filter. But you also forgot about STP and SuperTech airfilters. I wonder if they're good since I have one in my car.
If in any doubt which is best.. stick to what the manufacturers use for your vehicle.. Yes it maybe more restrictive.. but at least you ain't gonna end up damaging your engine through poor filtration.. By this I mean letting in a lot of foreign objects due to the material of the filter..
For filtering performance, you really need a pulsing pressure/flow mimicking the actual air flow in an intake. There's some good info on why K&N cotton filters work better in practice than on static filtering tests due to this phenomenon. It would be interesting to see the filtering results under such conditions. If you plan to add premium filters to the test, then please look into how to mimic those characteristics.
When you do this type of testing it would be so cool to see you throw a random OEM filter in just to give us some food for thought. I.E Honda, Toyota ETC.
Good reviews. I've pretty much gone to WIX for my vehicle's maintenance though currently have a K&N on my '31 Ford's 5.0 engine simply because that was the only available 12" oval at 4" height 2-3 years ago. That one will be scrapped soon for a dry version as even the small amount of oil on it has coated the carb choke plate.
If fram puts up respectable numbers then it should be better than for use "in a pinch." If you had stated that it was second worse in the 5g dust test then that would be better justification. As someone else pointed out, a summary chart would help the viewer digest all the test info.
You should always test an OEM real genuine original filter from the dealer for whatever car you are testing as a control - not an "equivalent" or "the same manufacturer" but an actual genuine one.
if you take the filter completely off, you will win in every category except 1. proving the only important test is the ability to filter small particles. The Beck/Arnley is the winner by far.

I buy the cheap amazon ones for my Toyota and it does a great job. No problem or isses.
Another great video! I'd love to see performance filters like an oiled K&N and dryflow like AEM compared to these.
Coming soon in the next video. Thank you so much for your support!
Nice! First time viewer and subbed right away, love the content
So glad you enjoyed! Thank you so much for supporting us!
@BrandRanks it's my pleasure
Such an awesome channel. Testing against an OEM filter would have been cool too
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your support!. Comparing OEMs vs OEMs is very hard since for example Honda wouldn't make a filter for the G35 we are using.
Great stuff thank you!
Just watched Project Farm's video about air filters. The WIX is a great all around air filter.
But you also forgot about STP and SuperTech airfilters. I wonder if they're good since I have one in my car.
This channel is interesting.
I just subscribed it.
Thank you. 👍
Brand Ranks is precision Project Farms ❤️ Both goats 🐐
Thank you so much for the support. It keeps us motivated to keep making more videos.
great video!
Thank you so much. It means a lot to us to read this in the comments.
Great video!
I wonder how O'Reilly's Auto parts name brand Microgard will test?
Master guard is manufactured by Fram last I checked.
Did anyone notice that Beck & Arnley gives most performance in low to mid range? Its the range we use normally in daily driving.
Please do a K&N filter. Thank you guys for doing these videos.
Yes, we will be doing K&N on the next video. Thank you so much for watching and supporting us!
Thank you for the suggestions. We were trying our best to mimic ISO standard testing like the one performed by K&N. Appreciate your support
When you do this type of testing it would be so cool to see you throw a random OEM filter in just to give us some food for thought. I.E Honda, Toyota ETC.
Thanks for the suggestion and for watching. Really appreciate the support!
I just switched to the K&N dry stock replacements
Good reviews. I've pretty much gone to WIX for my vehicle's maintenance though currently have a K&N on my '31 Ford's 5.0 engine simply because that was the only available 12" oval at 4" height 2-3 years ago. That one will be scrapped soon for a dry version as even the small amount of oil on it has coated the carb choke plate.
Thank you so much for watching!. Yeah the Wix was great. Those oiled filters tend to do that.
If fram puts up respectable numbers then it should be better than for use "in a pinch." If you had stated that it was second worse in the 5g dust test then that would be better justification. As someone else pointed out, a summary chart would help the viewer digest all the test info.
Why stay away for the Ecoguard? Very good filtering performance, good power, and cheap. The only thing it didn't do well is dirt capacity.
You should always test an OEM real genuine original filter from the dealer for whatever car you are testing as a control - not an "equivalent" or "the same manufacturer" but an actual genuine one.
Awesome video. Thank you.
I love this channel. It's legitimate testing not some bumpkin on a farm. Nicely done. Really love these videos.
if you take the filter completely off, you will win in every category except 1. proving the only important test is the ability to filter small particles. The Beck/Arnley is the winner by far.
I do an Amazon subscription, and change it whenever it comes in
That's a great idea! Thanks for watching
