  • 2020 Highlander over the 4Runner? In this video I compare the 2020 Toyota Highlander against the other brother, the 2020 4Runner. Which out of these two should you buy?
    GET A DEAL OR PROMO ON A TOYOTA HERE:
    conquestcars.ca/carlegion/per...
    Which one offers more technology, which one has more space, and which one is better on the road. For the first time ever I introduced a turning radius test, besides my usual cabin noise test.
    The 2020 Highlander has a new fresh look, on the inside and outside. It also offers an hybrid model compared to the 4Runner which doesn't at the moment. The 4Runner on the other hand can be a serious monster for off road weekends with the family. The 4Runner can conquer any path, even paved roads...

    Highlander is more generic, it looks like any other cuv. The 4Runner is a real SUV.

      4Runner also get horrific fuel economy, known to rust, ancient powertrain. I’m cross shopping both right now, I want the 4Runner for its looks, capability & reliability....highlander better tech, nicer interior, better powertrain, better fuel economy. We have 2017 Toyota Highlander, 2018 Toyota 4Runner, 2018 Toyota Rav4 and 2017 Toyota Tacoma in our family. While Highlander most certainly is better on the highway and city driving, there's something special about 4Runner. It just feels like a proper old school SUV, that you won't be worried to go over bumps, puddles, take it to trails and whatnot. Whereas Highlander is like a car with some additional ground clearance. Which is not a bad thing actually if you're only driving on pavement. Highlander's cabin is also much quieter and driving on higher speeds (75-78 mph) won't feel like you're about to flip your vehicle. 4Runner is not a great vehicle on the highway. I feel safer on my Tacoma when I'm driving on highway than I feel inside our 4Runner. Much like Lexus GX 4Runner just doesn't feel safe when you start going 70 mph and up. That said, if it was my money (since I already have Tacoma) I would choose the Highlander. But if that was going to be my only vehicle for every occasion (camping, daily driver, travel) then I would go with 4Runner since it's a great vehicle all-a-round.

      My wife has a 2014 Highlander which we love on taking on a family trip because of the comfort and space. I recently got a used 2013 4runner, and I love it! It is boxy, tall and no nonsense. I didn't realize how heavy 4runner is, hence it is not as responsive as the Highlander. I also noticed a highlander drives much smoother than 4runner on Highway. However, like you said, when I drive off road... The 4runner shines. It has the ground clearance and the capability to go almost anywhere. I feel like having both is like having the best of both worlds. City driving and long road trip definitely the Highlander. However, an occasional excursion out of town, 4runner will be up for the task. I recently sold my 2007 RAV4, which has been a reliable ride for many years. I do miss how much more fuel efficient it is and surprisingly RAV4 has lots of interior space, more so than the 4runner. Can't go wrong with any of the Toyota SUVs and Trucks.

    4 runner is so outdated has 20 less horsepower than a Highlander, look at the specs! The Highlander has changed so much and is really the bang for your buck if you get the XLE all wheel drive. Believe me the Highlander is really tough now and can handle snow, rocks, rain, sleet and really looks aggressive as well as luxurious!

    People don’t realize that the 2020 highlander does 0 to 60 and 6.7 seconds, it can also tow 5000 pounds and can seat seven or eight people and that is your preference. It also has close to 300 Hp! To me Highlander has it all. You can get the highlander XLE for $39,000. So all around the Highlander wins by far, when you look at speed, towing capacity, seating capacity for eight and price and luxury and even off roading. It is a Lexus with a Toyota badge which is not uncommon because as we all know Toyota owns Lexus. Simply a no brainer.

    I get that the sales volumes for Toyota are much higher on their cars and unibodied/car based crossovers but they also need to re-design their truck based/body on frame trucks and SUVs (4Runner, Sequoia, etc) with more frequency. I think the 4Runner and Sequoia haven't had a major re-design since 2010. Yes, they have had updates but I was looking at an SUV and was looking at a 4Runner but the powerplant and everything is still from 2010. I hear they may do a major re-design for either the 2022 or 2023 model (especially since they just re-designed the Tacoma) but the RAV4, Highlander, Camry, etc are all more "modern" than the 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, etc. I like the interior of the Highlander but the exterior of the 4Runner.
    I guess I'll wait another year to see if a newly re-designed 4Runner comes out with a different engine, transmission, possible hybrid, etc

    Most people are better off with a highlander since the vehicle is their daily driver and even for the majority of the 4runner owners,the 4runner is an overkill for their needs and I’m one of them,but I just like the ruggedness,simplicity and tough appearance of the 4runner,that’s why I went with the 4runner.

    Eight seats in a Highlander? Not if you're talking about actual human beings. The Highlander's 3rd row has 27.7" of legroom, the least of ANY three row crossover on the market. Simply providing 3 seatbelts in the 3rd row doesn't mean that 3 human beings (even 3 children) can be crammed back there.

    • @SamCarLegion
      @SamCarLegion  4 года назад

      Toyota says 7-8 says seating capacity. I am going by that. I have said this in many other videos, the third row seat isn't for adults at all. The only car that I was able to fit in was the Explorer.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 года назад

      @@SamCarLegion No 3 row crossover compares to the rear seat accommodations of a minivan but the Highlander is especially cramped with less legroom than any other vehicle in the category. As far as your experience is concerned, I assume you haven't driven the VW Atlas with 33.7" of legroom compared to the Explorer's 32.2" and the Highlander's 27.7"

    • @SamCarLegion
      @SamCarLegion  4 года назад

      I need to explain smth, forget about numbers online, when it comes to overall space numbers that they tell you about legroom and headroom do not necessarily reflect the truth. There are so many variations that come into place. How the seat is positioned, how thick is the seat, how the car is shaped, how the rear window is shapped. Think of the fuel economy nrs that manufacturers tell you, you almost never get that mpg or km lt. If you took 10 people with the same height, I am pretty sure all 10 would have a different opinion about the space.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 года назад

      @@SamCarLegion The figures I cited were from the manufacturers and confirmed by Car and Driver. It's one thing to have a single person's "opinion" about space. Personally, I'll take actual measurements.
