it doesn't have to be forever... esc voting changes all the time like with juries and stuff. if after may everybody thinks this way of voting sucks they might change it again :D
+jr I think this voting is amazing, but it would be better if the televoting would be given 1-7 , 8, 10 and 12 points, and the jury vote just overall. So, if they switch, it can be better than the old one
If Alexander Rybak's record will be beaten this year (which it probably will) It wouldn't really count because when Rybak won the most you could get was 504 points. Now it's 1032 because of the new voting system.
The highest when relevant to the highest possible and those that were attained was Brotherhood of Man 1976, averaging 9.65 points per country. Nicole for Germany 1981 was 2nd with 9.47 (I love stats, lol)
Portugal's 2017 entry broke the record mentioned in the video, even after applying the new voting system, by scoring 758 points. It was also the first time they ever won this competition. I know this video is from 2016, but I thought it would be cool to point it out.
@@RealKingston1 Portugal's winning song was the only real song that won Eurovision for a long time. Away with special effects and show, it is a SONG contest. Luckily Netherlands follows Portugal's excellence with a song that also is about voice, music and lyrics!
Under the 2009 system, Portugal 2017 would've received 417 points. That overtakes Anne-Marie David's record of points share (84.7% vs. 81%), and would have received 12 points from a record 20 countries each.

The most astounding result was 1998 in my view, because Israel and Malta had the same points before the last vote came in and then Macedonia gave Israel 8 points, so only Israel and Malta had the chance to win. After that Ireland received the 10 points and it was quite obvious who would get the 12 points. But unfortunately Malta didn't get a single point of Macedonia, so Israel won... Even now when I rewatch that scene I'm so full of hope that Chiara would win, although I already know that she wouldn't xD
Ornochestror Interesting but that happened in 1988 and it was definitely an even bigger thriller. It was even closer. You see almost *all* countries (all but two) had awarded the United Kingdom some points. Many of them 10 and 12 points. Celine Dion of Switzerland was *behind* the United Kingdom by 5 points *not* the same points like was the case in 1998. Then the final votes came in from Yugoslavia. She was trailing the United Kingdom. Yugoslavia then only awarded Switzerland (Celine Dion) 6 points which barely put her in the lead with a single point when 7, 8, 10 and 12 points still could be given... Since the United Kingdom just needed 2 points to overtake Celine Dion chances seemed high they would either get 7, 8, 10 or 12 points and win. As it were Yugoslavia awarded 7 points to the Netherlands, 8 points to Germany, 10 points to Norway...and then a complete shocker - they gave 12 points to France. France was in the lower midfield and nobody had given France any high points. Yugoslavia giving France their 12 points was totally unexpected but it meant Celine Dion had won by the smallest possible margin. Yugoslavia only placed Switzerland 5th and gave higher points to France, Norway, Germany and The Netherlands. So it seemed as if Celine Dion's 1 point lead was a final tiny bit of brief glory. I checked up 1998. The country Macedonia gave 10 points to wasn't Ireland it was the United Kingdom and it wasn't a shocker since it was one of the favorites that evening and had already received four 12 points and placed 2nd overall. Also Macedonia gave Croatia 12 points (not very surprising) and Croatia was doing well that evening and had two 12 points and four ten points votes. It ended the contest in a strong 5th place. So let's summarize: In 1998: They headed into the final vote with equal points. In 1988: Celine Dion was behind and trailing the United Kingdom by 5 points. In 1998: Macedonia still placed Israel top 3. In 1988: Yugoslavia placed Switzerland (Dion) 5th. In 1998: Macedonia gave United Kingdom their 10 points, a popular song which ended the contest in 2nd place and 12 points to Croatia which in a strong 5th place (already had six 10/12 points votes). In 1988: Yugoslavia gave the Netherlands 7 points (a song that finished 9th that evening), 8th to Germany (finished 11th overall) , Norway 10 points (finished 5th but only had a single 10 point vote by said Yugoslavia) and France (!) 12 points (which catapulted France to 10th overall in the final standings). Nobody expected France to get 12 points from Yugoslavia. But this meant that their 6 points had given Celine Dion the lead by a single point at the finish line. As such Yugoslavia's "We sort of like Switzerland's song but don't like United Kingdom's song at all" won Switzerland the contest by a single point after having been behind by 5 points.
Everyone who is arguing about how Rybak still holds the record, nope!! If the old system of the 10 favourites of the entire country was used, Portugal would actually have 418 points, meaning they are actually the ones with the record.
There is not any dictator in Turkey. Turkey is a demokratical republic. Every one has to feel respect Turkish people's choices in elections. Turkey does not participate the esc anymore because the voting system is not trustable with national juries.
Let's look at this soberly shall we? The voting system has changed over a handful of times through history. Juries, no juries, just televote, different points, different orders of delivering them... And yeah, the previous system (with occassional adjusments) served us well for some 30 years - what we're missing here is the excitement of the voting process. 2003 and 2011 were the only relatively exciting years as of late. As more countries joined, the bigger the lead a favourite could get. Was it exciting watching Loreen rake in douze points after douze points for well over half an hour? Fine if you wanna be nostalgic about it, but what SVT and EBU is doing is trying to get back the excitement and the nerve. We will still have the douze points, we will still have the spokepersons from each country delivering the vote - but it will take less time and be more exciting! +gummybears50 Because now, Jury-Voting and Public-Voting are not combined anymore. So every Country gives two times the Classic Points from 1-8 and 10 and 12. But only the Jury-Votes will be announced by a spokesperson. The Public-Voting result will be anncouned, starting with the Country with the fewest Points.
why would they do that? so bizarre! also public voting is more important for us as public ourselves. But I dont understand.. if it's not combined, which one is the considered one?
Am I the only one who's looking forward to see the new voting this year? 1993... The last 12 points were about to be awarded... Ireland had 175 points and United Kingdom had 164 points... if United Kingdom received the 12 points would've beaten Ireland by one point but Ireland got the 12 points.
The voting had always been one of the most exciting moments of the show. But not anymore. Sorry, but you seriously ruined it this year. Now I understand why Turkey won't participate in the contest.
+Şule Güleryüz Why ruined? Now you can't say anymore that the Jury Votes ruined everything. Or in the other way, that the public voting destroyed it. (but nobody said that ever). I would love to see Turkey back in the Contest. And Liechtenstein should debut. They have enough Money, so why don't they go to the EBU become a member of them? Why Liechtenstein, Why?
+Schinni Nobody Well, it could be 1st in SemiFinal and 3rd in Final, but Rona did amazing as a 5th too. And Malta was 4th for the jury. Amber was AMAZINGLY good.
I guess the voting in 1998 - Israel and Malta went into the last set of points joint top - wasn't included because it turned out that Spain's votes were incorrect (they should have given Israel 12 rather than 0).

1993... The last 12 points were about to be awarded... Ireland had 175 points and United Kingdom had 164 points... if United Kingdom received the 12 points would've beaten Ireland by one point but Ireland got the 12 points.
It's February and I'm already excited and nervous for this year's ESC! Come May!
Alexander Rybek will always be my favourite winner. Not necessarily his song, but his overall smiley attitude. He just looks like such a happy guy :3

Portugal and Bulgaria in 2017 : We are about to break his record
Back when Yugoslavia existed.
' Sad southern slav noises'
In 1969 4 winners, in 1990 2 winners, but Only one winner, noooooo...why?
Nice to see the system developing through time.
The votes are Homework
Me is Yugoslavia...
I want to celebrate every point, which my country gets in Eurovision. I can´t do it with the new voting system. The voting can´t be too long!
Am I the only one who has watched every single voting since 1957? (though 1964 could only be listened to, because no video recordings are available)
Goodbye to yesterday in background.... i want cry
Time to add Portugal to the list! BOOM
Effective Media Yeah!
"Good evening Yugoslavia " 😢😭😭 -Serbian
ArsenijeviĆ.
What about 1998? The most thrilling voting
What with 2021? 4 countries getting 0 points from the televoting in a row (and UK getting 0 points overall)
“With 21 points....Sweden”
estonian "goodbye to yesterday" in the background
Yeah I love that song
You know what I hope they add, a time where Cyprus doesn’t vote for Greece or Greece voting for Cyprus. Like actually
+Schinni Nobody The televoting ruined Malta 2015 and Albania 2012. 😢😢😢
ESC Albania 5th for Albania in 2012 is a verry good result and Malta wasn't that good in my opinion.
+Schinni Nobody Well, it could be 1st in SemiFinal and 3rd in Final, but Rona did amazing as a 5th too. And Malta was 4th for the jury. Amber was AMAZINGLY good.
ESC Albania Amber was in my opinion not that fantastic. Warrior was good, but not amazing.
TURKEY :(
LEONIDAS very funny :) try harder next time
***** please try harder next time. I'm pretty sure you have the capacity
***** thats my cock
LEONIDAS typcial jealous greek!
@LEONIDAS 😂😂
Might have to update it
yeah.........
wow, four winners at time!!
Wait, WHERE IS THE 1998 VOTING? WHERE?
I guess the voting in 1998 - Israel and Malta went into the last set of points joint top - wasn't included because it turned out that Spain's votes were incorrect (they should have given Israel 12 rather than 0).
I like how you use the Karaoke version of "The way you are" Denmark 2015 (SF only :( ) hehe
And 2021 would be the four Zero Points
This video just shows how exciting the old voting system could be. Well... no need to change it then
Come on, this years way of presenting the votes was way better! You couldn't tell who was going to win until the end, unlike previous years when you can tell early on who's gonna win
The music in the background is Denmark's entry from 2015.
Hope I won't be disappointed at the end.imagine when your country is 1 and after the televoting coming 3 or 4 place
That's what happened, but it kept it more interesting
hello from 2021 :) yk what i mean right
thought it said "memorable vomiting moments in eurovision" made by the actual ESC xd
