What videos would you like to see in the near future?
when to create contact, creating contact, etc
plz make a video about what shooters can do on the court aside from shooting(most of the time catch and shoot which is quite passive) to contribute, like cuts, setting the screens, off-ball movement, etc.
@@martinmatin4636 ^^
This might sound dumb but I think a shot-gather video might help some people. I myself struggled early in my high school days gathering the ball effectively off a dribble, which totally limited my ability to drive and shoot. This video could be similar to your "feet pointed away from basket when shooting" video, just a demonstration of real-life examples so we get a detailed look at how the pros do it. Then you could probably show us counters such as fake-gathers + head-fakes that lead to easy layups.
OK, I talked too much and am going to shut up now. :) Any content you release will be cool regardless. Cheers.
@@dash2k8gmail This basically explained it too
Great tip. I love how you called out Gilbert Arenas over this. A lot of players don't realize they're doing this, so they think it's "a waste of energy." Let's see them try to beat the defender otherwise. :D
Thats why they turn the ball over so many times they stepping out of bounds
in training, it hurts your front explosion if u rely on ur negative step explosion.
It's not a real move or something that is taught or practiced. I hate for kids to see this and start doing it. It's exactly what you said...wasted movement. And gives a smart defender additional time to adjust. How do you even accomplish a move like this, with your back to the sideline, without stepping out? There are plenty of fundamentals in the game, but this ain't one.
I miss agent 0
Hilarious 😂 Kobe clip whispering "What (is wrong with these people)?" ...and then looking up at the quotes... vintage editing... brilliant.
Thank you so much Coach!!
Had a game yesterday against a 9-0 team, and we won!! Your videos are so helpful and dont stop posting👍👍
Love to hear that - keep it up
Fantastic editing !! Love the sprinter photo overlay
Thanks so much coach, I’ve been cut from my middle school team last year, and your videos have helped me focus on the important things to work on this summer.
You have the absolute best move breakdowns with hella examples. Your vid’s are must watch, must likes EVERYTIME! Keep it up. I train people and your stuff is reaching the youth 🙌
Never stop these are so helpfull
This is prime reason number 1 for Achilles ruptures!!!
This is how you start sprinting. It happens multiple times a game in every sport ever. No matter if you're doing it willingly or unconsciously.
No injury should happen if you do it properly bio-mechanically.
Both KD and Dwight Powell did it awkwardly w/ their heel almost touching the ground.
Okay that little audio edit at 3:19 is SO good 🔥
This is so cool. Great work putting this together
Love this channel
I love the kids part at the end of the video. So intuitive.
Coach frikki! Who ever you are I love your channel, it really should be more popular than this, cos there's so much to learn here, my game has improved a while lot just by watching this channel
Great video!
Amazing video.
Thanks Coach.
I wish I saw this when I was growing up. This breakdown and examples make it so clear how effective this is.. I would've implemented this more for sure
That move is called the Achilles tearer.
Man love your content
Great Video! 🧠
Bruhhh i love ur videos ur one of the best mannn
A wise person once said “Turn left to go right” and this is a great example of it used in basketball
Is that a cars reference bro?
Elaborate
Elaborate
Please elaborate. I think this only applies to 2-wheeled vehicles like motorcycles (countersteering). Idk tho
@@renceileto1776 he’s saying how you have to fake one way to go another
THANK YOU SO MUCH CHOACHH
Great teaching wow!!!
Merci.
love this channel✋🏾✋🏾✋🏾✋🏾✋🏾
Thanks coach
The jazz hop hop is nice too.
is this the best video to give you O game ever? Bro. YOU DESERVE AN AWARD
I loved it
Thank you you and this move going to make me a deadly iso player
Love that attitute! Build a package around the negative step and its counters.
Well only perform this move on top of key never in the corners or else you'll step out of bounds
Haha Luka even got the announcers: "Luka... 🆗... stepback 3." 😂 They didn't know what he was going to do.
Thank you so much for this
im early, thanks coach
For those saying Jordan never used this move, he certainly did. Just find the video "Michael Jordan Episode 10 Triple Threat" and go to 3:08 in the video. Only difference is the narrator refers to it as a "load step."
That’s GOING LEFT. A righty has no choice to explode like this or else it’s a travel. Don’t try to piggyback in what I said.
@@SDSOverfiend I know that's GOING LEFT. However, it doesn't only have to be going left. A righty can do this going right if they have the proper pivot foot established. Your comment made it appear as if this is the only direction a right handed player can go is left doing this move. My fault if I misinterpreted.
Man, where was this when I was coming up?
I might have to start travelling, it goes so undetected and it makes it way easier lol!
Jordan was the master of this move.
No he didn’t use this
@@SDSOverfiend Definitely did, u dunce.
@@SDSOverfiend He definitely used this move.
Great move but too many players step on the sideline doing it. Need to know where is a spot on the court to utilize it because it is effective!
Coach what’s the name of this song? It’s so calming and pairs with the energetic finishes
Great move, just watch out for your Achilles’ tendon!
You can hurt your Achilles walking
@@georgebell9634 this move rely’s on the Achilles as a block
I tore my Achilles doing this move 😔
yup I thought of KD when I saw this video. Kobe too
the coach: I want everyone to go on a positive step
Literally ALL player's negative step: I respectfully don't care
I was doing that when y'all weren't even thought of yet
It has to be done at the right moment to be efficient. Only one way ! Just practice (Iverson's voice) 😁
This is true, it gets the defense out of position. Of course youre not gonna use it all the time because sooner or later the defense is gonna read you thats why you need to have counters. Negative step is effective I seen lots of clips where Melo does couple of times in a game. If it helps your game do it, stop listening to those who says otherwise because maybe they just cant do it, and they jealous so they too dont want you to do it.
god tier
Also how you rupture your Achilles
🔥🔥🔥
Combine the negative step with the stiff leg crossover, great way to create space
Stiff leg crossover, what move is that?
@@CoachFrikki This is James Harden version of the stiff leg

If you push off back non privet foot isn't that carry? Aren't you supposed only use your front (pivet) foot
Wow, this is a glitch in the system. I was flying out there like night crawler yesterday after a couple open threes 😊
"Olafur Styrmisson".......wit da deep cuts.....
It is actually a natural reaction. And there is nothing negative about it. Lee Taft calls it a plyo-step. He is actually in your video around 9:36
Love Lee Taft! I call it a negative step simply because it is backwards.
You better make sure you have a good achilles. Proper rehab and rest.
train that soleus muscle 💪
You would only catch a master Defender with this play one time and then once he knows you have it in your repertoire it's easy to shade a player in the direction you want him to be able to go to where he could still go in the other direction but he would have to go over and through your defense rather than be shaded where he's allowed to go to the opposite hand where he doesn't like to do that it's not an impossible move but it is a very good one
Hit'em with it one time. Next time hit'em with an counter.
And piano plays beautifully in the background as defenders get cooked lol.
in general, old school big men in basketball did not have the negative step move because they can't shoot from the outside. it only goes to show that modern players are better because improvement is inevitable.
Cap
Great move but can be dangerous to your achilles heel. Just watch what happened to KD
So can walking 😂😂😂 and running, and jumping
@@georgebell9634 Exactly this football player was at his combine torn his Achilles just running
Oh! 3:25 got him!
What's the name of the bgm?
This is why Achilles injuries are so prevelant these days
Have you ever thought about making workout videos with reps and stuff?
Might do some. But I'm not a big fan of the classic "workouts" where players are just mindlessly doing drills someone tells them to do.
I'm a big believer that playing 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 is better than any workout. I don't think Jordan or Lebron did any special "workouts" while they were young, they just hooped.
🤔if I use my right foot as a negative step, I have to go left and vice versa?
Yup driving right after a righty negative step doesn't make much sense, looks awkward and can be called for a travel.
I consider this move might have negative impact on tendon.
fact
Negative step works if you don't pick up your front foot. Many players, even pros, pick their front foot up during a negative step and that is a travel. There are some travels in this video, tbh.
It's a good move but problem I see is that right handers will need to go left, unless you can change your pivot foot and still get the same explosiveness.
Use other good moves going right. Like a rocker step (both explosive and shifty).
I don't see how that's a problem. Basketball is played asymmetrically.
Just learn how to drive with your left hand
@@CoachFrikki This! Your dominant hand already effects a lot of factors such as the best direction to stepback or which shoulder to fade over is more effective. Additionally, even at the NBA level, guys are often way better at finishing, dribbling, and passing with their dominant hand. Basketball is VERY asymmetrical.
Is it required that I dunk it????
No
Coach lets see u hoop
Some highlights on this channel.
ruclips.net/video/xVwxST4JAvg/видео.html
I'm a very positive person. I can't do negative steps 😔😎
Don't we all naturally do this so called backstepping move, whenever we try to explode into a drive anyway?
only left side ?
Yes, if you're a righty you jab with your right foot. And therefore drive left after a negative step. There are other good moves to go right.
Out of bounds simulator
Old heads hate this move cuz it makes u drive faster lol
I'm still wondering if this is not just normal "take off"
Normal for some ballers. Not everyone. A lot of players w/ bad slow footwork as well as travelling when they take off.
Hard to execute. Lot of traveling here...
i see this a lot of kobe to kill defenders like lightning....
How about bad defense...
Sadly this is called travel in my city.
achilles destroying move
Basketball is a dangerous sport. Jumping, sprinting, landing, stopping, changing directions is all dangerous.
Repping this move out with good form will minimize the risk of it ending badly. Every hooper (hell, anyone playing any sport ever) is gonna make this move multiple times every game both onball and offball no matter if trying to or not. Might as well practice doing it properly.
KD did the move badly biomechanically. Overstride + heel way too close to the floor. Him returning way too soon from his previous injury likely contributed as well.
Dwight Powell did the move terribly biomechanically. Heel almost touched the floor. It looked like he had no clue what he was doing. If he had practiced the move I doubt he would have gotten hurt.
I was about to mention this, this move is now being associated to all those achilles injuries. They need to further review this matter, as many players that pop their achilles happen while doing this neg step. I am not a specialist, but I would assume that the position with the knee completly extended and also bringing the heel to the ground causes a lot of strain/extension on the achilles, need to perform this move with less leg extension, so that the calf muscles also do some of the work not just a rebound effect from the achillies.
@@CoachFrikki bit of a stretch coach, but can you demonstrate the proper way to do it in a sound biomechanical way? Showing the do's and dont's and putting emphasis on the overstride.
Tore both of mine with the same move, with the latest tear a couple of weeks ago. Would like to go back to playing knowing how to utilize the move safer in the future. Thanks in advance!!!
I used this in a scrimmage and got 38
don’t you use this move in hesi’s also??
The footwork is similar.
I guess CJ McCollum watched this lol
It's 100% not a travel but allot of refs will call that a travel, same as I you jab right, then go left with your right foot, not a travel but will call it...
Come cercare di far passare per buono un evidente errore tecnico. Nn produce alcun tipo di vantaggio ed è evidente dalle azioni mostrate
Akala ko si Cong tv hahaha
You actually lose distance doing that...you can just positive and cross first step, less risk to kill your Achilles
Show some clips of players stepping out of bounds when using the footwork blunder when close to the sideline. It's a bad habit turnover waiting to happen. It's better to step off of parallel feet, lean forward into your second step for explosiveness or quickness.
U show them
this is how kobe ended his career
Apparently you didn't watch his last game
It also takes takes away your first step. Secondly all these players doing the “Negative Step” are all right handed going left pushing off the right leg. Plus all these players rocking mids wondering why they are always hurting and tearing something.
That's because these guys are exploding in the direction of their pivot foot. You have to push off your right leg going left if your left leg is your pivot foot. They could do the move going right but the right foot would need to be the pivot foot. The first step only really comes into play if you're leading in the direction of the "free foot" or the non-pivotted foot which is when an experienced player would unlikely use the negative step.
@@flossbee Thank you going into further detail about what I originally said. Only a fool would negative step as a righty going right. Most of the examples are righties going left because if they didn’t it would be a travel. Kobe for example when going left doesn’t negative step.. he steps forward with his right leg shielding then explodes. Unless your Paul Pierce you chooses his pivots.
Please change the music. Pleeeaaase. Love your content tho.
Negative step never works against me. It just gives away the intentions in my opinion.
It's nice to have several moves and maybe it'll work on most defenders.
You negative step because you're not able to pivot off your right foot. Constantly using negative step instead of pivoting of your right foot to a stagger stance will create physiological imbalances
Every person in every physical activity in the world ever uses some movement patterns more to one side than the other.
Doesn't seem to be a huge problem for Lebron, Kobe, MJ, Steph, Doncic and Harden. Players use a permanent pivot for a reason and the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks if there are any.
You negative step and split step the other way a lot while you're dribbling (hesitations to the right) and a lot off ball. So you're getting a lot of reps both ways.
Should guitar players spend time playing flipped? Should tennis players practice playing with their weaker hand? Should Gordon Ramsey be cutting onions with his weaker hand? Might be fun, but time could be spent doing other more important things.
That was a checkmate response ✌️
Literally none of those travels were called though so are they really even travels?
Rarely called unless you lift your pivot a lot.
@@CoachFrikki like 0:28
😂 lol all day long
i learn this from Michael jordan... but this move already 2 person got injured .
Michael Jordan himself did this all the time.
Is there any benefit to not doing it tho? lol
I mean there are other moves you can use to go left. Jabbing sideways for example.
But stepping backwards is the simplest and most explosive.
@@CoachFrikki ah ok thx
.... lol and fast players faster ⏩
This is just bad basketball that’s been tolerated by officials
Like this move or not, its one more for the bag. Fill it with as many moves as possible, youngsters.
