Great video! I like the point where u mentioned to take advantage of the extra man, players will often pass the ball up the court to early like 8:49 (which seems like the unselfish option) but actually keeping the ball yourself will make the opponent have to make a decision.

Great point. Sometimes you want to push the pace and hit the wing. But doing so does remove you from the numbered situation (3v2->2v2), so not always a good decision.

that's not the case in that moment. the right read WAS the pass ahead, just not that pass. the other pass on his side would've created a 2v1 and an open 3

At 8:45 those 2 guys on the wings should have sprinted ahead of the ballhandler to the 3 point line to set up a pass and cut opportunity. The guy receives a pass at the left wing then the original passer should cut immediately to get the ball right back, which is basically a give and go on the 4vs2 fast break. They lost that opportunity because they 3 teammates were lagging behind the ballhandler, and he wasn't attacking hard enough nor commanding them to get to those wing spots. Now he could have gotten a layup himself with his teammates a little bit behind him and the defense expecting him to pass or wait for everyone to catch up.

These things can work really well in pickuo games, but you need teammates who like to run and are willing to position themselves when you recognize it and notify them. If you're playing with a bunch of selfish guys who want to go 1on1 all day then it will be difficult. You're also going to be unevenly matched in fastbreak situations because teammates will stay back after a defensive play. That's when you slow the game down and wait for your team to go up court.

on that 3on2 situation clip at the 9:11 time stamp from the 93 all star game where Tim Hardaway tried to pass it to who I thought was Karl Malone at first; should the first guy who passed the ball to Hardaway at half court have cut? Because that's what I see in that situation if the guy comes out on Tim to take away the open 3 point shot. If he doesn't come out then Tim should shoot it. I also believe the first guy passed it to Tim too early or Tim should have ran a little deeper before receiving the pass. An earlier pass at half court allows the defense to quickly camp themselves in the paint to take away the backdoor cutting big man as well. Am I right or wrong?

    • @CoachFrikki

Spot on. If you're gonna pass it, pass it later. You only want 1 pass when you have a numbered advantage. Run patiently until everybody is perfectly spaced, 1 killer pass and get a high quality shot.
