  • If you want to carry a plate or bowl, or grab your coffee from the Starbucks window, and many other daily activities, you'll need to be able to supinate your forearm. Without supination, or the ability to turn your palm up, it can make almost all daily activities nearly impossible. That's why you are going to want to watch 4 of the Best Forearm Exercises to get supination back after an injury with Hand expert and Virtual Therapist- Michelle.
Lots of injuries to the elbow, forearm or wrist can cause a loss of forearm rotation. Elbow dislocations, elbow fractures, midshaft fracture of the ulna or radius, even wrist injuries such as DRUJ or TFCC...Google those if you aren't sure what those are.

I broke my wrist this past season snowboarding. The bone "healed" on the wrong way and had to get surgery for it. I have a plate and screws on my radius. My doctor told me that I most likely would never get Supination back. However, I could definitely feel the difference after just one session with your exercises. I'm truly thankful.

    Hi,
I shattered both the radius and ulna very near the elbow on November 16, 2021, had rods, plates and screws implanted and am currently in PT and OT for Lymphedema rehab and to get function back. I have had progress with OT on flexion and extension of the forearm but have not had much success with supination, I currently cannot supinate very much at all. In addition, I have a lot of swelling and pain in my wrist and all fingers especially the pinky and ring fingers. The doctor ordered the supination Dynasplint and I have been using it for several weeks and only ended up with more wrist pain. So, I tried your supination exercises as well as the hand and wrist exercises and am thrilled with the increased ROM. Thank you so much for posting these.

Holy crap thanks so much! I really needed this. When I was around 11 years old I ended up breaking my wrist due to me attempting to preform a "backflip" off a swing set. I ended up fracturing my left elbow, which casting led to me only gaining around 60% supination and 100% pronation. This was horrible for me, as I played guitar frequently at the time and could not play most of the notes on the fret-board. Thanks to you, I am now able to resume my 90% supination and am able to play all the notes on my guitar without problem!

I stopped all physio waiting for a x-ray, I thought I'd broken something. back at hospital and surgeon very strict telling me I need to seriously move everything or I'll end up with permanent disability.

Hi, I just started going to the gym recently and found out I can't supinate my left wrist completely, it only goes about 45 degrees before it starts hurting, hence I can't even do arm or bicep workouts with anything that involves a barbell as it ends up putting strain on my right hand much more. And I think my hand has been like this for years now since a fracture I had many years ago. Will this help or am I stuck like this now?

Thank you for this wonderful explanation and exercises about supination and pronation. I just dislocated my elbow last month and I cast it straight and after a month it stiff and I have a lot of problem in twisting my wrist. I watch the video about elbow flexion but its say that I need to focus first in supination and pronation. I wish that I heal faster so I can help my family. Thank you again for this video. We really appreciate it. Greetings here in Philippines.

Thank you! But what to do if I cannot even put my forearm in the normal position? So it always has full pronation and no rotation (even no opportunity to have a normal form). How to use these exercises? In this full pronation position I do not comprehend how to stretch without this normal position. Both ulna and radius were broken.

NIce. Thank you. I added guitar to my piano skills 60 years ago. Easy piano playing for me. But supination of the guitar neck forearm is very limited. I developed workarounds, including "thumb chords" and working with open tunings to create surprises where I just can't do normal professional fingerings. I'm now 72 and it's supposed to be "too late" to do anything about it medically. But again today--flying over a guitar neck but crashing unnecessarily into the problem out at the end of the runway---here I am, looking some idea to improve my range. I will try your exercises
