I've always said this. The mark of a really great marching show is that you forgot your watching a marching show. When they are so dialed into the character it transcends just that one year. This is one of my favorite shows. This, Rhythm X 2013, pulse-2014, Broken City 2019,Aimachi 05(i think?)
I do Indoor Percussion and Marching Band in the USA near Raleigh NC and It’s my favorite show in the WGI but I wish my school could go to World Championships for WGI but I still have a lot of fun doing it
Wow this is cool! I was in the 1998 competition, we got 2nd place to Arvada, Colorado who did a great job with their show! Best use of my time was getting involved with Drumline.
I've been waiting for these WGI videos. What a great way to start, with my all time favorite show. I hope you enjoy exploring the world of WGI indoor percussion and winterguard. Here's a bit of background information: Indoor percussion groups are made up of the battery, or the drums actually moving, and the front ensemble/pit. The battery is separated into snares (single drums mounted horizontally), tenors/quads (five or six drums fixed together), bass drums (drums mounted vertically and with varying sizes), and cymbals (big shiny disc things). In the front is the front ensemble, which consists of various percussion instruments as well as keyboard instruments, mainly the marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone. WGI doesn't only have indoor percussion groups, it also has winterguard, or indoor guard groups. I highly recommend checking out a few of their performances. WGI also has indoor winds groups, but they're a little less well known.
A lot of the theatrics and body movements in the DCI shows you’ve watched come from WGI. A lot of the older DCI shows you watched were straight forward marching and small to no story lines. Also DCI had traditional uniforms. The rise of WGI has seen DCI follow with wild costumes, dancing/body moves and deep story lines.
Another very different show I remember when I was helping out with our Winter Guard was Dantes Inferno. Really unique, especially for its time in 97. Wowed the hell out of me.
I'm in color guard! It's definitely stressful to learn, so much time goes into these shows and often times people will break down crying because something was too hard at first
Elements of The Amityville Horror, Scream, Poltergeist and The Shining all in one performance. I appreciate this one probably more than the one last week because the musicians were actually performing the music AND playing the parts of the goblins, ghosts and ghouls. You need to re-watch, because I VERY MUCH noticed the couch being removed. I thought it was to represent the couch flying across the room, but I was probably wrong about that.
"It's so scary!" You need to watch the Stryke show about the airplane from a couple of years back. You are now seeing where a lot of the body movements and theatrics in drum corps came from....WGI has had a large influence on drum corps performances.
Yes! Nightmare at 30,000 feet is siiick! Still wonder how they didn't have any timing penalties, how do you even go about dealing with a prop like that?
If you like the scary theme you should look at Music City Mystique either 2017 or 2018. But if you seem to like Mystique 2019 and 2020 are also really good shows!
I'm kind of ashamed to admit I'm less up to date or familiar with winter percussion than I am with DCI and BOA, especially since my whole life and career are based in the marching arts. So this was fun to watch some of these shows I've never seen right along with you! :D I'm currently working on a WGI Winds/Soundsport marching demo video that should be posted sometime tomorrow!
@@acstudios713 I mean yes it like they didn't play a lot but to score that high the music has to be difficult, clean, and demand and they had all that. That is why I brought up the scoring high but yes most people won't understand that masterpiece unless they really immerse themselves into drumming and the aspects about it.
Definitely recommend Pulse Percussion's show from 2014, "That Which Confines Us". It was first place in worlds, and it's one of those really creative shows that's real fun to watch. Definitely not as scary as this lol Honorable mention is Father Ryan High School's "Don't Try This At Home" show from 2013. The performers do a bunch of stunts during the show, pretty insane.
Courtney!!! Sweetheart, if you want to watch a battle of the bands from two bands in 2006 ish i would love to give you a glimpse into two high school bands doing their best to be hbcu styled bands.
You 100% should react to Broken City 2019, it's another wgi group that won in 2019 and they broke the score record, it's my favorite show, you would definitely like it!

I highly recommend Rcc 2018 and Broken City 2019. One, because they’re great shows. Two, because my favorite teachers were in it.

that show won't be appreciated by people who don't speak drums. It's also pretty easy to score high when you play for 20% of the show
