I'm of the fortunate few who was introduced early to Elijah as a child when I was only a few years younger than he in the Good Son. The movie freaked me out as an 8 year old, but there was a sincerity and grounded believability in his portrayal that really opened my young eyes to what good acting might look like even from a young age. I am tremendously happy to see he not only grew to a successful actor, but maintained and honed his passion enough to rocket into superstardom with LOTR and well beyond. Hope to one day shake his hand
him and daniel did the same thing. didnt even try to beat typecasting just went off to do weird indie movies and bit parts because they could and we love them for it. nowadays im more exited to see what role they took on then the actual movie their in simple because i know their roles going to be interesting.

You had me from "Hobbits are sneaky.." lol I've always loved Elijah Wood. He chooses roles that are so different from each other, its always exciting to see what he is doing next
I was already a fan of his when The Lord of the Rings came out. I used to LOVE Flipper as a kid, though in hindsight that movie wasn't very good. I also really enjoyed Deep Impact, and his character was my favorite. He also made The Faculty watchable and was the only reason I watched that movie in the first place.
Elijah Wood seems like one of the most genuine and creative people in Hollywood. I love how daring he is. And he's such a fantastic actor. Giving us the Frodo he did was a gift, but the fact he kept branching out and doing all these weird and wonderful things, and supporting other creators shows he's a truly admirable man. Great retrospective! Hope we continue to get lots of odd and fun performances from Elijah
We are close in age and I have been following his career since I first saw North and The Good Son when they were new. I got Really excited when I found out he is a also a record collector, moreso when I found he is a horror devotee and started making his own. If you haven't seen Cooties yet, please do. One of the best horror-comedies of the last decade.
Great article, now I know why Spectrevideo is doing so well. Also the video context/cuts with the dialogue are *chefs kiss*. Fantastic editing, well done.
The problem with why we associate Wood with Frodo is because of the sheer size of LOTR. Wood hasnt undertaken a blockbuster role since then. Its just indie films. If he decides to ever take on another blockbuster role (although his acting style and physical presence doesnt exactly make him a front-man) or if he performs in such a way that it receives widespread and mainstream critical acclaim he could distance himself from Frodo in a pretty meaningful way. But until that happens he will undeniably be most known for playing Frodo
Woah, nice video. But you can't just hit me with the "It's done, it's over now." clip 7:57 . I wasn't prepared for that right now. That scene usually hits me in the feelings after hours and hours of watching the trilogy, not after barely 8 minutes😂
Elijah has gone _gently_ through _the faculty_ and has indeed succeeded in gaining an acclaim. Hope he doesn't stop surprising people (if it's what he wants)
My favorite performance under his belt is when he played “The Guy” from Spy Kids 3. Utterly astonishing performance. Trilling from when he entered the screen to when he exited. There will never be another performance like it.
I remember him in roles in Huck Finn, Oliver Twist (AFAIR its the version with Andy Serkis as Sikes from 1999), and "the War" (with Costner) and the Avalon (great movie) and the Ice Storm (also good movie). And the Good Son. These were good roles despite his age. But I never heared of him before LOTR, only when they announced the cast of LOTR I started to search for the previous roles of PJ cast :)
@@TallisKeetonI remember watching Fellowship for the first time and thinking "it's that kid from The Faculty!" haha. Good to hear he's still got a thing for the horror genre.
@@cariandiyes, The Faculty is also one of my fav of his roles :) But I love most roles of most of PJ cast (including those horrible movies B-class or C-class where I can see JRDavies - I just search for Davies roles as he is so rare to find in good movies so I would watch even bad movies just to see him) :) and I've watched many movies with Wood, Astin, Mortenssen, Weaving, Tyler, Otto, Urban, Hill and Lee but most of all I guess I've watched with McKellen, Holm and Blanchett - with those 3 rather even more movies than with Wood. Actualy McKellen, Holm and Wood were the first whose movies I searched for a lot becouse I remembered McKellen and Holm from older movies long before LOTR, and Wood and Astin was another part of my searching - some of those movies I already seen of course like some of Lee, Mortenssen and Holm movies but never remembered the names of the actors and I begun recognising those names only after they were in LOTR.
Elijah Wood is one of the best younger actors alive. And, also a genius for his LOTR audition video. I wish that had been put on the special features of the DVD and Blu-ray releases of the trilogy. He is a true chameleon when it comes to the roles he takes.
From the first time the casting of the Rings movies was announced, I knew they got it right. Elijah Wood as Frodo? Perfect! Christopher Lee! Ian McKellen! Every one of the actors (the ones I was familiar with) seemed like perfect choices to this long time fan of the books.
There are many reasons that the LotR trilogy has been one of the biggest successes in pop culture history. But a huge amount of this was due to the phenomenal levels of work that the actors had to go through. Many of the actors were injured during shooting. Some really badly. Yet they just shrugged it off and went right back to work after first aid was applied. Compare that to some of the so-called "actors" in The Rings of Power, who couldn't stand the slightest hardship. One of them actually needed emotional therapy after filming a fight scene. Give me a frickin' break. So, yeah. the entire cast of LotR was absolutely incredible. I'm not surprised that Wood has made such a career for himself. Good on him. And I thank him for giving us such a good performance in his movies.
1:st season was perfection. Second was ok, but that mostly so because it was covered by season ones great shadow. I still would have loved a third season and fourth...
People didn't know Elijah Wood was weird before Frodo? I was. I'm curious about this heavy audition tape that got the weird kid cast in a massive Hollywood franchise.
He was always doing passion projects. None of them knew that their nerdy and in-depth full trilogy take on The Lord of the Rings was going to be such a huge hit. They just hoped and did their best to respect and portray the material.
Elijah Wood's performances are very nuanced and understated. He's one of those actors who can do a lot with just his expressions.
He's a great actor but he was miscast as Frodo, with this sad, forlorn vibe. Frodo is supposed to be cheerful and perky, not brooding and morose.

I remember really enjoying him in Green Street, i don't even like football but that film was a fun watch.
You forgot to mention his role in dirk gently's holistic detective agency, which was amazing
him and daniel did the same thing. didnt even try to beat typecasting just went off to do weird indie movies and bit parts because they could
and we love them for it.
nowadays im more exited to see what role they took on then the actual movie their in simple because i know their roles going to be interesting.
Green Street hooligans is one of the most underrated films ever
Wilfred is one of the most underrated series I have watched to date... I absolutely loved it and wished there was more like it!
He also voiced the main character in the show Tron: Uprising! Amazing work! I hope he does more for Tron!
He's throwing shade at two of my favorite Elijah Wood movies, lol. Green Street Hooligans and Deep Impact.
I am ashamed to say I havn't seen Green Street Hooligans but I love Deep Impact.
@@1Dreamking same. I also enjoyed, and preferred, his performance as Huck Finn. Guy could have been an iconic Peter Pan too, if he wanted.
Oh, wait, there was Child of the Night, but that was referencing Peter Pan. Still was cute in the suit.
Pretty sure Elijah Wood was also The Killer in Sin City... which was a REALLY creepy role.
And to his credit, he's got a lot of range and acting skill, so he's earned his post LotR career.
That was in the video, though.
woods is one of the best actors/directors of the last few decades, i love when he get the appreciation he trully deserves. we loves art, and he loves making art!
Green Street Hooligans was a miss? I saw it like 10 years ago but remember liking it
Agree he has a "i can do what I want" career cause of Lord of The Rings. He did a great job in a remake that was different yet better than the original "Maniac" Clifford was a bizarre yet interesting FX show as well
Nooooo you missed over the garden wall 😭😭 such a beloved animation that he voiced a main character in.
Ugh, yes!! When I saw he was attached, I had to watch, and now my sisters and I watch it every October. It's soo good!
Unfortunately a lot of people don't treat animation or voice acting with the same respect
That’s my favourite role of his no joke
You had me from "Hobbits are sneaky.." lol I've always loved Elijah Wood. He chooses roles that are so different from each other, its always exciting to see what he is doing next
How dare you talk ill of green street
I was already a fan of his when The Lord of the Rings came out. I used to LOVE Flipper as a kid, though in hindsight that movie wasn't very good. I also really enjoyed Deep Impact, and his character was my favorite. He also made The Faculty watchable and was the only reason I watched that movie in the first place.
My favorite was the Good Son...
He did 121 movies and series, more than most actors.
If you haven't seen them - The Faculty and The War both featuring Elijah Wood are two awesome films that are great young adult films.
Serious misses??? Green Street Houligans was actually awesome! Surprisingly good.
He's done so many diverse and insane movies. What choices.
I love green street hooligans. Its one of the best films ever about the dark side of fan culture
My favorite Elijah woods project will always be wilfred. That show is so underrated
It doesn't compare to the original Australian version. The American version I couldn't watch, and I've been a fan of Woods since he was a child actor.
Great article, now I know why Spectrevideo is doing so well. Also the video context/cuts with the dialogue are *chefs kiss*. Fantastic editing, well done.
green street hooligans is awesome, wtf
Green street hooligans is a miss? What? Srsly? What
😂 I was also, WTF ???
My favorite performance under his belt is when he played “The Guy” from Spy Kids 3. Utterly astonishing performance. Trilling from when he entered the screen to when he exited. There will never be another performance like it.
He been famous a while even before lord of the rings
I need to see that audition tape
Yeah, I've been searching it up with no luck
From the first time the casting of the Rings movies was announced, I knew they got it right. Elijah Wood as Frodo? Perfect! Christopher Lee! Ian McKellen! Every one of the actors (the ones I was familiar with) seemed like perfect choices to this long time fan of the books.
Can't believe he was In Red Vs Blue
Shame there was never a third season of Dirk Gently.
1:st season was perfection. Second was ok, but that mostly so because it was covered by season ones great shadow.
I still would have loved a third season and fourth...
Can't forget; "Radio-Flyer". Deeper movie than you'd expect from the title.
Sean Astin was not an obscure actor before lord of the rings
Big facts! Even if you can only name Goonies or Rudy, that’s hardly obscure.
I lived down the street from him in austin for a year and a half. He was a super nice guy and had no problem answering my fanboy questions.
TF?! Green Street Hooligans a miss? Are you allright? That movie was amazing (well the first one at least).
Green Street Hooligans was intense.
Ummm greenstreet hooligans was awesome
Can’t forget about his performance in Over The Garden Wall
Green Street is a bit of a cult classic here in the uk
„Everything is illuminated“ changed my life
Green Street is a cult classic tho
I could see Elijah going full circle and one day playing Gollum in a LotR series!
0:50 There is no television series. That’s not Tolkien, that’s blasphemy.
After his performance, I can't imagine anyone else playing frodo.
FALSE. Green Street Hooligans is AMAZING
People didn't know Elijah Wood was weird before Frodo? I was. I'm curious about this heavy audition tape that got the weird kid cast in a massive Hollywood franchise.
Got to meet him last weekend. Extremely genuine, friendly fella.
He was always doing passion projects. None of them knew that their nerdy and in-depth full trilogy take on The Lord of the Rings was going to be such a huge hit. They just hoped and did their best to respect and portray the material.
Kevin from Sin City is one his most memorable roles to me. His silent performance is incredibly terrifying and bone chilling.
I was going to say "Free Willy", but it's actually "Flipper."
90's kids gonna have to sit down for a moment...
Green street hooligans a miss? That movie is awesome!!!
The fact Elijah Wood played a roll in 3 of my favorite films LOTR, Mandy and Colour of outer space is amazing.
Everything is Illuminated is one of the most underrated movies of all time.
I completely forgot about the Amazon tv series. Surprised you included it in the LotR franchise at all.
Hey man... What's with the Deep Impact dig? That was a great movie...
Yeah but armagedon was more of everything but factual and shadow it...
the "share the load" will always be connected to that spider scene
