Lack of Motivation is the thing, I struggle the most with. I got a lot of coping mechanisms, even acknowledged by the psychiatrist, who did my evaluation. But this stupid motivation thing is a real pain in the butt.

61 and ditto. So many mistakes I wouldn’t have made and wondered what the hell was wrong with me. Let’s hope now we know what we’re up against life might be a tiny bit easier, and if not that we can at least be easier on ourselves x

I was recently diagnosed at 46 and ditto (well, had I or someone known 40 years ago). Less anxiety (maybe I would never have developed agoraphobia 🤷‍♂️), less depression, not forcing myself into square pegs, etc. It's maddening, isn't it? I vacillate between anger and acceptance. Best of luck to you! I hope your diagnosis brings clarity and an even more fulfilling life!

I felt really validated by this piece of the chapter right now. I am currently taking a class and struggling a lot. I always wanted to take this class and paid a lot of money for it and waited years before I signed up and the tasks I'm supposed to do are great and fun, but I just can't get myself to do them and I've missed deadlines for months now and am really frustrated and mad at myself every day that I think is going to be the day I'm finally productive.

that was my experience with uni, I loved the topics and it was so much fun, but I couldn't concentrate for the life of me, and working on essays at home or even reading texts at home was impossible. it was so frustrating, I hope you find a way to trick your brain into being productive!!

    This book sounds great!!!
I LOVE that you are so unapologetically YOU! Looking at your bookcase behind you, it's what YOU like and what appeals to YOU vs. What society typically dictates as appropriate adult decor! That is AWESOME!!!
I recall overhearing my (then) very dearest, closest friend talking to someone negatively about how I like unicorns and like stuffed animals (still), etc. For reference, I was 45 years old at the time and she scouffed at me being me - or course behind my back.
Well congrats on your book and/or the makings of your book and to you being YOU and staying true to YOU! ❤👏

I absolutely sympathize with you there! As an adult I still like to gleefully look through toy stores, or toy sections in stores (though I've lately been able to stop myself from buying most of the time). It sucks to feel judged, and more so to actually be judged, but you are unique and amazing. Don't let the "standards" of society keep you from being you (so long as you're not hurting anyone, including yourself). Stuffed animals are awesome! And this is coming from a guy who still has his first ever stuffed animal lol

I cant wait to read it!! I love how the layout is distinctly ADHD-friendly too. Concise language, easily readable text, engaging.
Theres a pschiatrist on YT (something-something gamer?? idr) who compiled a document for how to overcome ADHD challenges. And when criticized for it not being ADHD-friendly, his response was basically "sorry I cant compress this information into tiktoks". Having someone who knows ADHD from the inside write about it is SO valuable. It means so much to have a resource that is accessible AND helpful.

Hope that tiktok comment was a joke.

I love HealthyGamerGG and find his content invaluable. Yes he has some blind spots but he's always learning and growing and trying. Neurodivergence isn't his specialty but as a person with ADHD he has some of the most refreshingly unique content around in so many topics and it's so helpful.

I have a bunch of books that I've never finished reading (ADHD Life!), but I felt compelled to pre-order your book in audio form in the hope that I'll be more likely to actually consume it that way! As you say, it's not that I don't WANT to read your book, but my brain is hard to keep focused and motivated, even on things I want to do, hence why I know I'll benefit from your book like I benefit from your videos. Thank you and congratulations!

I'm so torn about this book and Dani's Anti Planner. They look so amazing and they're from creators that have really helped me, but I'm afraid they'll end up on my unread book stack and fuel my guilt and self depreciation about "not doing more". It's quite discouraging when the very thing they're made to help with holds me back from engaging with them.

    • @amarylily

I totally relate agh I have such a huge pile of books I need to read and bought but just haven't gotten to yet
Right now I'm doing art for my art portfolio so audiobooks are super helpful (but even then I sometimes will just lose interest 10 minutes in)
I'd say to still get them to at least have then on hand and available when you feel your brain is ready to work with you on it. That may be in a few weeks, months, or years but at least it's a resource there that you can lean on when you need it the most!
Also maybe instead of reading/listening to it all at once, try reading in increments!
Of course, these are just a few things that helped me and this might not help you since everyone is different, but just know you aren't alone in this struggle! Even comic books have been hard for me to finish reading!
I hope the best for your reading journey!

    • @CarolineDyar
      @CarolineDyar 6 месяцев назад +25

@ahrpigi I totally get that conundrum and have an idea that could help with it! You could buy them to give as gifts and then see if you feel motivated to read them before the deadline (a birthday, holiday, etc) of giving them away arrives. That helps create a sense of urgency. And if you realize you're engaging with them, you can always change your mind and keep them!

I've been following this channel since I was about 15 because I love psychology. I got diagnosed with ADHD at the beginning of this year, kind of a surprise but I always knew I wasn't NT. I started uni (college) and I super relate to this. I'm trying really hard to gear my distractions to be relevant to my degree, self motivation is still pretty hard though. I hope to get your book

Looking forward to receiving my copy of this! Im hoping I'll have an easier time getting through this one than I do with most books, though I'm finding reading a lot easier if I do so while listening to white or green noise. If anyone else is struggling with this like I do, give white noise a try 🙂

this hit way too hard. Ive been having the suspicion that I have adhd for a few years, and this short chapter just described me and my struggles perfectly. there's hope that im just neurodivergent instead of lazy and too dumb to function. anyway, thank you, gonna go cry now

I love this video. And it is apropos because my brain today refuses to do a task that it has refused to do for the past three days.
