Ed Rush & Optical's stuff ages so damn well. Imagine the current DnB with cheesy EDM vocals in 20 years time how cringey that will sound by comparison. You could listen to this in another 20 years and it will still sound like the perfect soundtrack to a futuristic horror sci-fi. The drop on this is ridiculous! I remember some time after its release in early 2000 Ray Keith dropping this at tinnitus-inducing volumes at Bar Rumba. People went APESHIT. THAT was DnB. In that moment. You can try to explain what DnB is to someone but no words can substitute actually experiencing a tune like this underground in a PACKED intimate club. The tumbling amens, the HUGE distorted Reese. He rewound it FOUR times. This is pure, uncut classic nasty DnB.
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Martin Michael thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
got massively overshadowed by alien girl but for me this was even better! dont get me wrong alien girl was still immense, but this track was absolutely horrifying. the bass at 3:47 is just the most outrageous savageness ever. one of the best 12 inch's ever though where both sides were sick :D
Ollie Duracell the tech step dnb around at this time was really good..you had ed rush and optical working on there virus album plus making beats like this with Nicole and trace and good stuff on 31 records to ..those were the days
This track is my favorite one of all. It made me a dnb fan. But no one played it in clubs here. Then I think Andy C played it during his first visit in my country. I was shocked and thrilled at the same time. One of the top ten moments in my life.
I survivevd the massive speaker wall at the Q Club in Birmingham, walked into the room and this was just starting, and OMG I'm getting goosebumps remembering! My damn chest was vibrating, it was the best moment of the night, and the room was pretty much empty as we were some of the first through the doors, so we were in the perfect spot.
So true! I remember walking through the tunnel walking into Elevation 95 (camden) hearing The Terroist drop as I was coming up. That made my whole life worth living
I'd love to see someone deploy this absolute roller out at a modern EDM festival and melt everyone's faces. It'd be like that SNL skit about the bass drop.
I have Tinnitus which I blame firmly on my love of loud Drum and Bass. I'll take never hearing silence again over never hearing this stuff played gut-wrenchingly loud in clubs back in the day.
Decent trade off I reckon Nev, we were lucky to be there back then, amazing times which can’t be replicated. 🙌🏼😊🙏🏼 Sorry about the tinnitus though, I get it intermittently and just try to ignore it. 😬😩

I remember a DJ, who shall remain nameless 😂 playing this twice in his set at The End, cos he was a little, erm, ‘merry’. 👀😂 Me and my pals loved this tune, so his mistake was our gain. 👏🏼😊😂
I remember buying this in a record shop in Soho. I was flicking through a stack of vinyl and a dude that worked there dropped this at the back of the pile. I saw it was a Prototype rec so just took a chance on it. Took it home and it was two of the best tunes from that era!
The name of this is Cutslo and it’s an anagram of Locust, the earlier incarnation of this track, by ed rush and Fierce, hence this with Optical being called the lokuste mix, AND the original Locust tune before, was a remix of Proton! Back in ‘97, which rumbles way deeper, and all these 3 versions of the the same tune, by Ed Rush all played and mixed together causes absolute carnage and mayhem on the dance-floor!!! 💣 🔥 💥 🎊 🎉
I hooked in when i was 16, now 32. all the good times we had back then, so glad i bought all this stuff on vinyl back then. Iam gonna pass it on to my kids.
little correction, this was before my time but my local record store had these classics, i only had to dig them up between the dust... timeless neuro to say the least.
I Was in Vancouver when this dropped. There with my future wife, a MacBook G3 and cubase VST 5. Found a friendly record store (with very big bass bins) who kindly played many of the new and upcoming D&B tunes for me to record, but fucked if i could get cubase to play ball, however i didn't let him know and pretended i was recording all this loverly fresh d&B. When he played this track, i just turned to him and said "I need this on vinyl!!" . Now living in Fuerteventura with my own bass bins, my children despite being obsessed with phones and all things pointless on the internet, I can confidently say they have been "educated".
An unforgettable feeling when the bass hit and it felt all over the body. I am 43 years now but I still think it's the best piece of dnb next to The Messiah Konflict.
Best DnB tune of all time! It's almost like 3 in 1 & I just never get sick of it! Amazing to mix (if you understand my 3 in 1) as you can mix in & out! There ain't many tunes that can even compete with this base line & I agree this pips Alien Girl too - Which is also in a league of it's own
Original tear out bad boy monster. What an effin tune, the bass drop at 3:46 kills everyone all the time, then to make sure they clean up with the drum track at 4:33. OTHER WORLD LIFE TUUNNNNEEEEEEEEE
Cutslo by Ed rush, is an updated beats version of Locust by Ed Rush, (Cutslo is an anagram of locust) and Locust was a more mid frequency version of the original source tune called Proton, which has the most Bass!! Back in ‘97 a tech step anthem, which used to destroy dancefloors. And the 3 mixes played all together at the same time is absolutely mind blowingly devastating!! 🙌🎵🎶💣🔥💥🎊🎉🙌🤩
Top shelf 12" - both sides were murdering dance floors for a year on dub before we could get our hands on these 2 instant classics. Still got a couple copies to drop a needle on. Horribly compressed RUclips doesn't do music like this justice ;) - so you gotta rinse that beautiful vinyl on a banging' system and you're in business....Big ups Grooverider - bit ups the Ed Rush and the man they call Optical - brilliant era to have been a part of - cheers.

the best part is this samples predator 2....other world lifeforms . actually, that isn't the best part but God damn I've listened to this for 23 years and can't stop
I remember hearing this on a dub plate when Ed and Matt played to a nearly empty room in Chicago circa 1998. I had heard whispers about the Locust remix and this didn't disappoint. The twenty or so of us there liked it. The original is also massively overlooked.
wish i had a time machine so i could take in that show! i was living in L.A. when I first heard this... i thought I was listening to music from another dimension...

I’m 53 and this is still my favorite song! If the current edm crowd heard this they wouldn’t know what to do. Absolute classic.
Dropped it last week at an event and the young kids had no idea. All the heads were going bonkers, though.

I agree, love them both but I played Cutso out way more times as a dj than Alien Girl, so dirty.
champion style
if you remember going to a club and this being played then your life was worth it!!!!!!!
Don't remember it but it definitely happened

Ed Rush at the Black Swan in Bristol. Terrifying!

Still makes the hairs on my neck stand up after all these years.
when the bass first rips in on the break i really do cry tears of joy, still one of the finest tracks ever. along with the flipside!
Yes yes
I'd love to see someone deploy this absolute roller out at a modern EDM festival and melt everyone's faces. It'd be like that SNL skit about the bass drop.
Still a Dance floor destroyer 25 years later 🔥🔥🔥. Stands the test of time this classic

check your sinuses also smoking air quality and diet regularly.give it 10 years

One of the greatest Dnb tracks ever made.
the breakdown on this sounds like it's tearing space/time a new arsehole.

Not many better experiences than hearing this late and loud in a club.

That 2nd drop is nuts, still banging after all these years, this is a legendary DnB track.
as of when this track was created , there was nothing out there that could touch it. it was on another level entirely. and still is
47 years old today and i still love this track from the bottom of my heart, like when i heard it for the first time in the end of the 90:s.⚡

There's 2 questions that prove someone's old.
1. Do you know Cutslo?
2. Did you wank over magazines?
