    The 2018 and up twin turbo V6 has tons of torque right from idle. Between 2000-3000 rpm your at 400+ TQ. Its 80K too. I'll stick with my '88 460 F250.

    We have enough upper middle class rv ers with new trucks and airstream trailers and overproduced videos on you tube.
    One thing I enjoy about your channel is you do it more on a budget.Also you use your mechanical skills to improve your situation rather than just money. Many people will have to make older stuff work. That includes me.
    I have a 93 gmc 2500hd with a 6.5 turbo diesel.Rebuilding a surplus humvee engine that has next to no wear.It is the optimizer engine that got rid of the problem gm had with the engine.I will know this truck from top to bottom.So I feel I can fix this on the road no problem.I'm also a federal lisenced aircraft mechanic. I have yet to buy a trailer as of now.But I have two years to go before hitting the road.My youngest is 17.
    Keep up the great videos and keep it real.
    Robert

    I am 100% in agreement with you on the 460 vs diesel. Also, if you can afford $40k, and you put the $6k into your current truck, $34k is a lot of cash you'll have for fuel,campsites, repair/maintenance etc, not to mention you know every nut and bolt on your truck and can still work on it yourself with basic hand tools. I don't trust these new computers disguised as trucks! That new overdrive unit would be sweet.

    Iv'e done all of your mods in my 91 f240 4x4, plus i put a Dana 60 up front, when i replaced the engine i found a 460 RV engine (heavy duty!) Also those air inlet hoses & the air filter box have been wrapped with heat reflective tape, which lowers the air intake about 40 degrees. Mine is a work truck

    ive got a '90 version of this and plan to have a similar trailer. thinking of doing some similar stuff. power costs money that i dont have much of, so im thinking of just making basic improvements like bosch matched injectors, ignition coil/plugs/wires, alternator, bigger radiator, better muffler and or headers but i also already need new front springs and of coarse have to buy the trailer still. i figure two yrs from now ill be ready to hit the road.

    Hi we follow you on your other Chanel, RV Daydream, by the way it's very good but i didn't know about this one, now we are a family of campers and we have 3 grandsons from 3 years to 11 & 14 here in the north of you, so my daughter wanted a bigger camper for the boy's, she got a big camper and she got and older ford van with a 460 motor to pull the camper, well we also had to get a bigger camper because the boy's love to hang out with grandma plus we can take our bike, so two campers, a 38' and a 25' toy huller, I'm going to make some change's to her E-350 van, she loves it and we had to jump up to a larger truck as well V-10 Excursion , keep up the good work on RUclips

    Pretty awesome that you have the last of the 460s and with reliable EFI. I have a ‘77 Lincoln Mk V 460/9”/C6/4w disc. Rebuilt the Spreadbore carb, couldn’t get it to run right, put on a sqauarebore Holley 600 with an adapter. Drove it round trip last summer over 2k to Carlisle PA. Averaged just over 16 MPG cruising 75-80 (2.50 gears). Now I am building a 530 CI for this car. That stock 460 is so quiet and refined, and intend to have the 530 every bit as quiet although it will have headers and dual 3” exhaust. My build should be slightly north of 550 crank HP and hopefully surprise unsuspecting luxury German sedan drivers on the highway.

    One thing to look into if you have to do a timing set is replace the OEM with a set from a 429. The 460 timing sets have the camshaft timing retarded. The 429 sets are straight up. You'll gain power across the board with no other mods.

    The conversion to MAF seems a bit steep. Maybe a 5.0 computer reflashed and set up for larger injectors. A special wire harness laying beside the stock harness. I figure 800 bucks. Still a bit pricey for me. Engine? A stroker kit with a bore job and different heads. Still way cheaper than a new truck. I wish I knew more about newer 460 computers (maybe one or two years of this)and being able to put this on my 92. The MAF would make for more camshaft selections.

    How much did that 4 core radiator set you back? It looks like a factory ford style. Is that one for a 7.3? Interesting on the oil cooler. My 86 has a regular cooler next to the trans cooler. Having both a FI 460, and a carbed 460, this is some great info.
    For the air horn you cut out, I say good! I cut mine last fall no difference. This winter I had to pull off the air hoses and broke the IAC hose nipple. Pulled one off a 95-97 e350 box van. Lo and behold there was no air horn. Ford eliminated it.

    Cummins 12 valve with a kit from Diesel Conversions will go a long way for your fuel economy. With your skills, it would be nothing for you to install. I have a '94 with the crew-cab and with the 460 and fuel economy is something we don't discuss because there is none. Air bag kit will make a huge difference in those long trips.
    Where I live, a new Ford with all the options and the towing capacity, you are knocking on the door of easily over $80,000. One of my buddies went over $100,00 with his 350. More money than I can afford.

    First of thank you for all the videos. Im doing many similar things on my RV tower. I’m getting ready to install a 4row radiator in my 95 f250 XLT rwd. It has a built in radiator cooler in the new radiator. I’m stuck on what to use for a fan. Thought of using stock without the fan clutch and bolt it straight in, thoughts?
    BTW what did you do with the AC condenser that sits in front of the radiator? I don’t see it in the video.

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  5 лет назад +1

      A perfectly functioning clutch fan will move more air than any electric fan on the market. That is information that was given to me directly from Derale... if you remove your fan clutch your gas mileage will be horrible. The general rule of thumb is anything above 40 miles an hour doesn't require a fan. So you definitely want to have a clutch that will disengage and cause less drag on the engine. I still have my AC condenser and it's stock location I'm not sure why it was difficult to see in the video. For more engine cooling options check out my other video where I installed an after-market oil cooler. There are more close up pictures of the AC condenser on that video. My truck has the stock fan and a Severe Duty clutch. I believe I need to upgrade my water pump however to a high flow water pump as the extra coolant that the radiator offers in the system is causing the stock water pump I believed to suffer and not able to push all that extra coolant.

    Thanks for all the incredibly informative and helpful videos on the F250. I have a 97 F250 HD 460 7.5L also however I have the 4x4. Been doing alot of work on her as she has 210k but the motor is strong. I live in Colorado, I have a question for you on the 4 core radiator. Do you have a part # or link to the one you installed? I get alot of heat build up climbing the steep inclines and she shut down on me once due to overheat. I have a new water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, and even radiator however It's 2 core and I am unable to find a 4 core for that vehicle.

      Glad my videos are helpful. My wife has work for Advance Auto Parts for the last 21 years and has been the manager for the majority of that time. When I had her look up my radiator she said that there was a 4 core radiator that was listed for it. So you may want to check with your local Advance Auto Parts. One thing that you may want to consider that you may not have done already is a high-flow thermostat and also a high-volume water pump.

      My wife was the manager of Advance Auto Parts. At the time I had her get into one of the books and look up an ambulance radiator that would fit into that truck. She then saw that it was an option on her computer for some years of those older trucks but not all. You'll have to find somebody that's willing to look up other vehicles and you'll have to know the size of your radiator and where your Inlet and Outlets are including your transmission Inlet and Outlet to make sure that what they have in their books matches what you have.

    When you look at the cost of your truck and the mods you have done and what you would like to do, you will come close to the cost of a new truck. I always have this problem when deciding to keep my old car repaired or go newer. There is a point of no return where the investment far exceeds the value of the truck. Just to let you know, I have and love my 2002 Chevy one ton dulley

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 лет назад +2

      John Simone Yep.. Did that with my F150 too. But starting with the purchase price $3800 then add $1100 for tires.. $400 for complete brakes.. $1300 for exhaust..$1700 in fuel pumps, fuel tank, ignition, injectors, cooling system, brake controller, ball joints, shocks, sway bushings, steering box. That puts me at just over $8000.. Even with another $3500 for an engine and $2500 for a Transmission then add on $1700 for MAF conversion and finally $3700 for Gear Vendors unit.. I Would far exceed what the truck could be resold for However, at a grand total of $19,400 I would have a beast of a bullet proof tow vehicle and still have $22,600 saved from buying a new truck.. the real value, that is very hard to numerate, is that I would be able to fix every single thing on the truck without any problems, where these new ones are quite that simple anymore. Now if the new trucks were only selling for about 20 to $25,000, I could definitely see going to a new truck, but I just can't swallow this $39,000 to $75,000 for a new truck. Plus if I had all the mods that I wanted to do to mine, I really don't know if there will be any new truck out there they could do a better job of pulling our RV. Hard telling what I'll do. I almost bought the mass air flow conversion kit today. Well if I make modifications I'll be doing videos of it that's for sure. Thanks for the comment love to hear that you're keeping the old trucks going! :-)

      It works fine, smooth idle, You have to buy very good plug wires amzn.to/1Iasi1s and increase your plug gap... easy to install..get the MSD harness for ford coils amzn.to/1FmwTwM OR amzn.to/1HwAviQ makes it even easier.. Aftermarket coil good idea also amzn.to/2LeM1TW

      You'll have to compare the 2.... Make sure gear is made of same material... Of course all dimensions need to be exact.....

    What symptoms were you experiencing when you found the broken wire in your coil harness? Which wire was broken, power or signal? I had an instance where I was waiting for a traffic light, and the engine (5.0) just died, as if I turned the key off. Started right up again but, I never found the cause.

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 лет назад

      I'm not sure which one it was...It was right at the plug at the coil..

      I had a similar experience with my 95 f250, very frustrating. Long story short it turned out that the entire distributor was going bad. Engine would die either when it got warmed up or it was wet out. Put in a new distributor and never had another problem.

    • @mark98070
      @mark98070 5 лет назад

      I've heard that the pick-up coil inside the distributor goes bad on these.
      Probably best that you changed the distributor instead of trying to just change the pick-up coil which can be very difficult. What engine do you have? How many miles on it? Did you get an aftermarket or a rebuild? I don't think you can get OEM anymore.

      mikey mike I believe I picked up the distributor at O’
      Reilly’s, aftermarket. I have the 460 running about 125,000 miles.

    NO Emissions laws,....... What is the Large "box" (with sm tubes) Between the Battery & AC recovery tank? I have a catalytic converter etc (bought in CO. live in MI) Yet do not have that box.

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  5 лет назад +1

      Gas tank vent vapor recirculation canister.... It's sort of a emissions thing however it's also a great idea having all the gas fumes being captured instead of venting underneath the bed of the truck... Especially a rusty one with a fiberglass cap on the bed...

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  5 лет назад

      Sorry, disregard previous reply. That is not a box that is a vacuum Reservoir canister. It helps with keeping the vacuum on a constant usable level. There are a lot of valves that use vacuum and need to have vacuum available at all times even when the engine isn't creating as much vacuum as it normally would. I don't know that many trucks that don't have vacuum canisters. My F150 with a 302 had it and my Lincoln Town Cars had it all the way back to 1972. A lot of race street cars run vacuum canisters because their cams are so large they don't create vacuum very well and they need it for their power brakes.

    Awesome video, lots of good points. Especially about buying a new truck. I'd take my OBS 460 truck with mods over a new truck any day. I have an e4od as well, another worthy upgrade for it is this: www.amazon.com/Derale-14208-Transmission-Cooling-and5R110W/dp/B004XONSX0 , along with a bigger trans cooler like you talked about. Anything to help keep the trans temp down on the long hauls in order to get a longer life expectancy for the e4od

    have you adjusted timing?

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 лет назад +1

      Scott LaVine I think I bumped it up 4 degrees... I didn't want to go too crazy because pinging starts more easily at lower RPMs under a load. And of course Towing is definitely under a load. Also we did our Florida trip in July where the heat index was 104 degrees. Even though I ran premium fuel, I wanted the option to run the cheap stuff. I could probably afford more timing but it's pretty good where it's at.

      Foxboss9 here in Colorado I run my 5.0 at 14 before tdc. And run cheap fuel no issues

    • @hunterlemastdr97
      @hunterlemastdr97 5 лет назад

      Trying to buy the Hedman y pipe alone is a real pain I ordered thinking of just putting headers and take it to the exhaust shop but after getting quoted 500 for all I figured if I could buy a y pipe for 100 and have around 275 in building my exhaust it’d be worth it

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  5 лет назад

      @@hunterlemastdr97 the Ypipe is nothing special... Definitely the headers replacing the manifolds is where most of the performance will come from... So I would get the headers and have a shop fabricate the ypipe back to the tail pipe..

    • @Foxboss9

      I bought two new trucks since this video. We live on the road full time and no matter how nice I think that old truck was I did not necessarily have the means and ability to pull over to the side of the road and make major repairs Towing an RV. And currently we have a 20 20 F350 with the 73 gas and we're towing a fifth wheel that the 460 couldn't even come close to having the capacity to haul

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 лет назад +4

      Michael Buitenhuis too much money to buy, maintain and operate... Plus the stink and noise is something I rather not deal with on a daily basis.. Plus it takes a whole lot more $ to modify.. If I was pulling more than 8500lbs on a regular basis and towing more than 10,000 miles a year... maybe... Most people have been told "buy a diesel" if you are towing.. Problem is, most people don't tow enough miles or anything heavy enough to warrant a diesel... You do know that this gas engine stock is rated across the board by Ford to be nearly identical in capabilities in towing and payload?
