Hey folks, after doing some research it turns out that the ZF5 was never offered in the Bronco from the factory. It's still a popular swap for Broncos though. Thanks again for keeping me honest!
Definitely going with a ZF5. Infact i literally went and picked it (and another transfer case) up on Friday. They sure feel like more than 175 lbs! Ha. Stroking an all original 351w as well. All of that is going into an '81 Full size Bronco. Thanks for the effort and good videos!
you can swap a 2wd car to 4wd.. or vise versa.. the 2wd/4wd zf5 is interchangeable, provided you have the correct bell housing pattern. bell housing patters including sbf(5.0 or 5.8)/bb (460) / diesel. 6.0 diesel and 7.3 diesel are not interchangeable. to swap from 2wd to 4wd youll obviously need the correct driveshaft as the transfer case would change the length.
You have to swap the shaft as well from what I understand. I of course, could be mistaken. That is a serious "job" though if you have to. You would pretty much rebuild it at the same time. Probably better off just getting a 4x4 version. Again, a mix of my opinion and semi limited knowledge.
@Bullnose81 I was actually kind of surprised when I initially came across the website and channel. I thought it would be a bigger (F250, Rrock crawler, etc) vehicle since the plan is a stroked 315w. I mostly agree that the I6 with ZF5 would probably be really nice on the F150, but I get the desire for higher HP/Torque as well. I'm building a heavy Bronco, and I will need the stroked windsor. Just about everything is going to be heavier. Seats, sound deadening, engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, tires, etc. I'll be lucky if the engine I'm planning will even be enough. Lol

One engine you missed was the 6.9 idi diesel in 1987 only. This does make it backwards compatible to the early 6.9 years of 83-86
I love the close ratio diesel version. If only these transmissions had removable bellhousings.

Was told I could take the 2x4 drum trail shaft housing off and go right to a transfer case

The zf5 is even better when behind the 460efi in a 68 f250
They also fit triton engines.
Keep the 300 and slap in a zf5

Broncos 5.0 & 4.9s had a mazda transmission. They didn’t have a zf5
@@josenoyola9851 true. And anything bullnose didn’t have a zf5. They were introduced in 87. Bullnose 80-86. Cool swap though
Thanks for the correction. I'll pin a comment so folks know I made that mistake.
Im finding out there very expensive to overhaul
