Learn how to remove the air pump (aka smog pump) including bolt sizes and tips/tricks. Make it a drinking game every time you hear “1996 Ford F-350...” 🤣
Thanks for the video I picked up a reg cab 89 f350 4x4 from the original owners family. He passed away and it sat for 4 years. 50 somthing thousand original miles. Replaced fuel pumps and cleaned out the tanks and she’s running great again. This will be the next thing I do. Thanks again for the video!
Special thanks for including the belt used after removing the smog pump. Saved me a lot of trial and error along with time! I have a camper with a 460 and then pump was totally jammed and I couldn't find a replacement.
@@scottsthaname1you're kidding right? The EPA isn't hunting individuals, they are going after big diesel shops, eBay sellers and companies selling smog bypass equipment.
I did a full smog delete on my 95 460 best choice I ever made trucks runs a 100 times better got headers going to dual pipes with mufflers runs a lot better and sounds great to
Nice truck I have a 94 250 with the 460. Thanks for posting the belt part number. What else have you done to the truck and how are you going to put coils on it?
Right on. I haven’t done much to it yet other than the mods in my videos (cat and muffler delete, air intake horn delete). For the coils, I’ll eventually do an axle swap. Get some axles from an ‘05+ Superduty and viola! You can do a little welding OR swap it by doing a little more drilling and do it bolt-on style. I’ll make videos of it when I do it with all the info!
I’ll have to look tomorrow but it was from auto zone and I do not recommend it...unless you’re selling your truck that very day and want it to look good for a hot minute. It gets a lot of build up with this stuff on it and, it looks great for a few hours but then starts to grab every spec of dust around.
Need some help. I have a 97 f250 with the 460 and tried the smog delete but now runs weird. Only thing I capped off was the Plastic Y on passenger side where the 2 pipes from the manifolds meet. Am I missing something?
There are a couple of black pipes that come out from the back of the motor that are just offset from the center of the engine bay towards the passenger side. Trace those back to the motor and then you’ll need to plug it. IIIRC, it was maybe a 3/8” NPT fitting from Napa. Been a while since I did it.
@jamesleon98 I put long tube headers on mine (460 efi) and it sounds like a champ. Definitely improved the sound. No dash lights before or after doing so. Highly recommended. I used Doug Thorley.
Thanks! No codes and not a different idle. I did notice a change in the idle though when I did the air intake horn delete and I feel like it runs really well.
Awesome! I was changing my valve covers and it was blocked by all this egr stuff. I’m gonna keep my valve but was gonna take off that smog pump. Sorry if I missed it in the video, but did you just plug up the areas where the hoses came from? And you just cut off that piping to the exhaust and just left it open? Thanks for all the help! Never done a delete before myself and just trying to see what all it will take.
Yep I just cut the pipe off the exhaust and also removed the cat altogether. On the back of the motor, there’s a spot where you can screw in an NPT plug fitting so you can get rid of the tubes. I’ll see if I can find the size I got and let you know.
Thanks! I’m not sure about the smog part. I live in the great state of Texas where they don’t care about the environment and we don’t have smog/emissions testing in my county. I’m sure someone else will chime in.
@@olemansailor6519 i live in California i think it dose but idk thanks for replying im just take the pully off and bypass it then put it back when i get it smoged
@heyitsmedouglasheyitsmedou1312 I just wanted to ask cause my just locked up an I live in ny cause we all know how cali an ny are but thank you for letting me know
Thanks, appreciate it. Doing the smog delete shortly just want to get all the parts before hand. Cats getting cut out, going straight piped with dual tipped side exhaust.
I’d imagine it’s similar. The belts may be slightly different but I’ll let someone else answer whether it is or is not. Disclaimer: this is legally binding advice. If I show how to do something and it’s wrong and you mess up your truck, I’ll buy you a brand new one.
While changing belt on my 93 460 I loosened only the top bolt pried over the alternator then pried it back... bottom bolt certainly would of snapped if I wouldn’t of. Good luck.
remember they had one less number then so it rolls over at 100,000 miles. It is likely yours rolled over at least once, sorry. Look at driver's seat and wear to carpet, it can help id milage, at least give you a guess.
Hey I bought a 460 recently that is in a 92 F350. Can I get in contact with you and ask what a part is on it? My smog was deleted as well and I have a loose wire. Just curious if it went to it. I can send a picture somewhere

it also helps lower engine bay temperature and makes your manifolds last longer
Great video Sir. My smog pump just started squealing l ike crazy. Yeah im considering this now 😢 thank you so much for the information.
I'm about to do a top end rebuild and delete all the extra crap from under my hood... thanks for the belt #...👍

What did you use to plug the back of the headers?
Great job showing and telling, I took it off mine too and that’s the way you do it great job. Well see ya next time see ya bye

Is it possible to leave the smog pump in and install the new shorter Napa belt?
Sir. If theres a belt to bypass the AC compressor. I would love to know that too
will the cruse controll still work or not, i rly wana do this but i use the cruse controll on my truck so pls lemme know
What happens if you dont block off the holes in the manifold?
Nothing significant
Nothing worse than a drugged up motor, eh
Had the mechanic smog delete when doing an efi conversion, he didnt plug the holes
What have you applied to your hoses to make them shiny like that? Mine are all brand new but don't look that good. Is it armor-all or something?

What does this do? Does it improve anything besides a few Hp?
Increased engine life bc of less “strain” on the motor. A marginal increase in power. Those are the 2 main reasons.
It also allows you to remove the catalytic converters
What would be causing the drive belt to wear faster than normal? Mine has a light colored line starting to show on the inside edge of the belt.
The belt that also goes to the water pump?
no cel for the Thermactor when deleting this?
Nada
Does it affect how it idles and runs?
Makes it run marginally better and it idles the same
Thank you I want to do the smog delete so that I can install headers

Yes but I’m in a republican county in Texas so it’s easy to pass. I’m not in communist Houston or Austin or anywhere liberal.
So what were the fittings you ended up putting in the manifolds
Great question
...? Got a answer then.? lol
They were some npt plugs but I don’t remember what size they are. I’ll do some searching to see if I can find it.

Where’s that air pump located?
Beneath the alternator

I tried the wrench and cheater bar and now it’s stripped what should I do
Start with some liquid wrench and soak it. Then try welding a new nut onto it and try again.

I tried every belt that NAPA Auto parts had for a 351 which is what I have and none of them worked
Not sure about a 351, as mine is a 460. Kind of surprised Napa couldn’t set you up with the right belt.

It did not on mine. Some guys with earlier built trucks have said they get them. Mine is a ‘96.

The egr delete is what throws the codes. You would want an aftermarket setup like 460efuguy.com
