For using on a tree the squirrels will force their way between the baffle meets the tree. They will tear barkk away to make a space for them to squeeze through. So where the baffle meets the tree has to be very secure.

@@UnchartedDIY I'm making a heavy duty galvanized metal baffle, rather large pecan tree, Using scrap duct work, so it is like an an upside cone and will try stuffing bird netting between the tree and the baffle. Also spraying red pepper all around. Squirrels are so determined that last year one of them tried so hard to get between the baffle and the tree he got stuck and died. I found him when I took the baffle down. It really is WAR..

Yeah I've been battling the God Damn Squirrels too caught 4 in traps in my attic i got a bunch of sheet metal wrapped my tree in 80 inches of metal but they were still getting in somehow maybe somewhere else but I have no idea how they are getting in besides my palm tree in front they are a ridiculously crafty rodent smart as hell I have one trapped now put him out front in the trap by the palm tree to Warn the others but that didnt work either I have my tree covered in spikes now with 2 fake owls at the top we will see if that work but I have my serious doubts. I think I'm gonna take my sheet metal and make a baffle like this to add it to the tree but in all reality I have to start patching the holes they are getting in under my easels that the critter control folks pointed out to me so i picked up the Wire mesh and great stuff and paint and gonna do that. I've lived here 16 years with no squirrel problems and then I get a F--cking Palm tree and a Nightmare of a 6 month squirrel problem costing me money and sucking up all my time Squirrels will never be cute again they are the enemy and I'm going to take em' out.
I understand the frustration, Seahawks! I've been battling with squirrels for a long time too, though the baffle and spikes has kept them out of the cavity nest since I put them up. There was one exception though: I found a squirrel in the nest and discovered that one section of spikes had come loose, but none since I put it back in place.
Unfortunately, squirrels are amazingly smart and athletic, which is a bad combination when they go into destructive mode!
Many thanks, I needed a large baffle for a big birdhouse on a 10-inch piling by our dock (for water snakes). My Cone Calc pattern needed two 4' x 2' pieces (cone is 36" wide, 14" tall), so I got 24-inch aluminum flashing to practice on before cutting the 26 gauge sheet metal that I was able to get from our HVAC guy. In the middle of doing it now, but it looks like it should work? Of note: the Overlap dimension splits to the 2 sides (if you put in 1", the two tabs on each end will be 1/2" each). To have a collar just reduce the inner dimension by 2" or so.

I looked everywhere on cat baffles for a palm tree.
We tried the chicken wire, we tried tall bamboo sticks around it. I need a baffle for a " palm tree". It's up against our privacy fence and our cats keep getting out. Plz help. I have maine coons.

Creating a baffle using the roll flashing as shown in the video will work great for a palm tree too. I've watched a cat try to get past ours and it wasn't able. The other thing you could try would be the bird spikes as shown in the video on protecting cavity nests: ruclips.net/video/TD9wrnY9e9s/видео.html

It would be great for rats, squirrels or pretty much any small animal.

Or simply do what I did and purchase a $20 baffle from Amazon, flatten it out and trace it to make your pattern. Done
Great idea, if they have the right size. I couldn't find one large enough AND with the proper angle. It's a balance between being wide enough at the bottom to prevent anything climbing up from below, and a steep enough angle to make anything jumping on it slide right off. I'm glad to hear you found one that works for your situation.
That poor tree has been screwed to death
That part of the tree has been dead for a while, but we keep it so the Flickers can have their nest cavity. They've raised four broods in it and are working on their fifth.
People, this is a waste of time. Just get a cheap big plastic pot at the dollar store and cut a hole in it. Cut a side. Hang it and re-staple the cut side. So simple and cheap. Done.
Interesting idea, but it seems that the lip of the pot would make a great grab point for jumping creatures...
But, if it works for what you need it to do, it's a great solution.

Come on dude you working your brain too much go the cheap way get some old planting pots plastic you cut it make a hole and you put it on your tree with some zip ties It will stop squirrels rats and everything Automatic work like a bell if they do jump on it it will make them fall right off
