I'm lying here feeling lost, I don't know what I'm striving for or what achievements I want to accomplish. I want somthing to get up for in the morning I want, passion, tenacity and drive, not complacency. I don't know if I'll find it but this song certainly makes the search better. Edit. 3 years on. Found my way, what lovely sincerity from you beautiful people. 👊
I found my life's purpose in doing art - writing, drawing, photography (neither professionally nor to make a living but for "making my soul grow"). Maybe something along these lines would work for you, too? Or maybe helping others, if you're more socially inclined?
+wolkenzebra My family says I could make a living off writing books, and I already have the first three books written/planned out for my first book series and two other possible series I could make. ^w^ sad thing is I have to rewrite the first and most of the second book.
If you think about it, the song is explaining the meaning of 'Lord Huron': "I was born on the lake and I don't want to leave it" ... "I'm the lord of the lake and I don't want to leave it" 'Huron' comes from Lake Huron, which is where the lead singer used to visit when he was young. 'Lord of the lake' coincides perfectly with the band's name.
How have so many people gotten the lyrics wrong? Even on Google.. Here's an update! I'm just a man but I know that I'm damned All the dead seem to know where I am The tale that began on the night of my birth Will be done in a turn of the earth Lie where I land let my bones turn to sand I was born on the lake and I don't want to leave it Every eye on the coast ever more Will remember the sight of the ghost on the shore Under the waves and the earth of an age Lie a thousand old northerners graves Deep in the night when the moon's glowing bright They come rising up into the light Die if I must let my bones turn to dust I'm the Lord of the lake and I don't want to leave it All who sail off the coast ever more Will remember the tale of the ghost on the shore I'm goin' away for a long time I'm goin' away for a long time Lie where I land let my bones turn to sand I was born on the lake and I don't want to leave it Every eye on the coast ever more Will remember the sight of the ghost on the shore Die if I must let my bones turn to dust I'm the lord of the lake and I don't want to leave it All who sail off the coast ever more Will remember the tale of the ghost on the shore I'm goin' away for a long time
Song has special meaning for me. I went searching for my best friend from school. I hadn't seen her in over 25 years. I kept journals back then and I recently read about our adventures. Amazing fun we had. This song became my theme in finding. I love printmaking and decided to do a print based on the song and my search. I just finished and inked the woodcut last night. Really turned out nice. It's good when you can bring emotion to your art. Gives it personal meaning.

I once saw fullest night sky when I was little, I was looking for comets but found something better. It was beautiful, the darkness faded once my eyes adjusted, and I could see something that made everything in me stop. The stars in the sky had never been so heartbreakingly clear. Have u ever seen something so absolutely perfect u felt outside of urself? I still remember and with everything in me I want to see it again. It was blue, and so bright it lit up my dark road, the trees, everything. I’ve never wanted to see something again so bad in my life
Driving through the woods surrounded by trees with the sun coming through the branches just a little and a quiet moment to myself with this song playing... Heaven.
You know a song is legend level when it’s most replayed is just about the whole song. ❤ This song is with me in happy times and is getting me through rough times alike.
This is my absolute favourite song. But I've checked out a lot of their other songs and I find this is the most unique. Haven't found anything quite like it yet.

Lord Huron helps me. It lets me escape reality and enter a new world where life isnt shit, where I am happy. Today I was alone in the woods listening to their songs on repeat and I did not want to leave. I felt at peace, no one could hurt me whils listening to Lord Huron.
I sit with my eyes closed with waves and waves of imagery and emotion flowing over me. Almost like a can feel my mind glowing. Oh-- My-- Gosh-- I can't freaking believe this. It's like an mythically gorgeous sunrise trapped in a bottle.
This song gives me chills, it's gorgeous. It reminds me of camping at the lake near the huge forests that seem to touch the sky this summer. I woke up at 4am and waited for the sun to rise. I've never felt happier in my whole life.
This song reminds me of my first horse Domingo. He was a black and white paint. He’s gone now but every time I go to the barn I always think of him. He’ll always be my ghost on the shore.🖤
Deep in the night when the moon's glowing bright They come rising up into the night Die of I must, let my bones turn to dust I'm the lord of the lake and I don't want to leave it All who sail off the coast ever more Will remember the tale of the ghost on the shore ...so poetic
Glad that Lord Huron performed music for the movie A Walk in the Woods; great movie, wonderful photography and good casting.... makes me want to hike in nature much more than I do.
I love this song so much I haven’t heard it in years since I was a teen and it’s making me cry just barely hearing the first few seconds idky I missed this song so much 😢
This is real depressing when riding on your way to work to stack boxes but somehow I feel free when I hear this. Lord Huron is one of few lords of music
I've only met two other people who know of Lord Huron, and both of them were very special and vibrant. I think this sort of music attracts those with the wilderness inside of them. Artists, mostly.
This type of music is amazing. Coupled with this time of year, it is wonderful. I go out and tap maple trees and collect the sap to make syrup. This music accompanies me as I go from tree to tree. It's really fitting with the quiet of the forest.
When I come across music like this...It makes me slow down. Think about what really REAL in life. Sometimes we get caught up in whats not truely ourselves. Rap, rock n roll, reggae every aspect of music influences us but this music from Lord Huron. This puts me into my true form. Im denver bound this year, im looking for happiness.
Okay , why is everyone getting(interpret) the song wrong , well here's my version of understanding the lyrics , The guy( the songwriter/poet)refere the island / shore as his girl/ his lover(former) And he refer himself as the ghost ( because they are broken up , he's there like a ghost) . So when he sang " all who sail off the coast evermore will remember the tale of the ghost on the shore" he meant , "if anybody ever try to love her , they'll know that i used to be there in her heart , might as well know how mich i used to love her " . "Im the lord of the lake and i don't wanna leave it" Its his rightful place to be in the heart of his lover , he's not leaving it , 'cause it's his and will always be. . "Every eye on the coast evermore will remember the sight of the ghost on the shore" Meaning, 'If you ever saw my love/girl or land an eye on her , I'll be there as well, cause I'm in her heart that I'll never leave , I'm the ghost who stays in her heart forever"
i always saw it as longing for home-art is amazing because it’s so subjective that each of us can gain something unique from the piece because of our individual experiences
This song reminds me of laying in our tent on our annual camping trip and listening to the weather forecast on the radio. I don't know why. It just does.
Man just started my journey discovering these songs and sad to say how relevant of a feeling every word or lyrics resonates with myself . So many times you can give your heart away with full trust and care and be let down each time you can have a heart of gold and it won’t matter to some how much you shine and it creates that damaged person inside me
Eric Reza love without expecting to be loved in return just love because you love .. love and lose and move on .. don’t let others break you my friend you sound like you have a good heart.. the right person will come i can promise you that..
I wake up and I don’t know what to do I go to school learn and halfway through the day I don’t know what to do then I listen to this song and it helps it opens up my mind to new possibilities that I never knew I love listen to music like this and I hope people never stop making these songs they help my past these hard terrible days. THANK YOU😭
My life has been full of heart ache love and loss. But I never lose sight of the beauty this world we live in has blessed me with. This song is haunting, and it reminds me of how sweet sorrow can be. And to hold on to the memories of love laughter, life and living. Because one day we all will be the Ghost on the shore.
This song speaks to my soul. the rhythm speaks to my heart. It takes me into a world where I don't have to live reality and I'm somewhere nice, like a national park, where I can find peace in God's beauty.
My dad frequently listened to this kind of music when i was younger, It reminds me of better times and that's why I love this kind of music, its the kind of music that will take you on a journey through your experiences and beyond them.
I too was born on the shore of one of the Great Lakes. While it isn't Lake Huron, it was Lake Superior. I'm now on the west coast but miss it up there.
This brings me back to my favorite camping spot; right beside the lake at sunset, with a small fire casting just enough light to illuminate the very tips of the water as it crests the shore. The smell of smoke, trees, the lake, and earth combining into a wonderful blend for the senses. Happiness.
And she left, and with her last goodbye a part of my life dissappeared like the waking memory of a dream. Fleeting shapes are all I have left, I can't even remember her face. All I remember is her voice, soft warm calm like the beach of some tropic paradise. I miss her so much but it's only in the back of my mind.
I started listening to this song probably last year, I recently just came back to it, forgot how beautiful it is, this, ends of the earth and Meet me in the woods are Lord Huron’s best songs imo.
I can’t stop listening to this. Sounds like a song filled with hope. Feels like something to play when you’re coming out of a depression.
This is such an amazing comment Bri

One of their most powerful songs. Their songs excite a certain image and atmosphere that few other musicians can match!

I love this song so much I haven’t heard it in years since I was a teen and it’s making me cry just barely hearing the first few seconds idky I missed this song so much 😢
I went to a concert of theirs. When they played this song, I cried. It's so beautiful
This is real depressing when riding on your way to work to stack boxes but somehow I feel free when I hear this. Lord Huron is one of few lords of music
The day when I will find a girl whos going to enjoy this kind of music the same way I do, I am going to get married.
I love this type of music, it is so soulful. Unfortunately, I'm sixty-five and my life is full of regrets.
@@candym2835 why?
Hey man, here I am, be my fiance? JK! hope you can find that girl :)
I am a little late, but I wish you the best of luck my friend. Hope you will find her.
@@kelvinosei6368 just bad decisions and a lost love. So much I want to do ....
Im denver bound this year, im looking for happiness.
lov all lord hurons music...
Okay , why is everyone getting(interpret) the song wrong , well here's my version of understanding the lyrics ,
The guy( the songwriter/poet)refere the island / shore as his girl/ his lover(former)
And he refer himself as the ghost ( because they are broken up , he's there like a ghost)
.
So when he sang " all who sail off the coast evermore will remember the tale of the ghost on the shore"
he meant , "if anybody ever try to love her , they'll know that i used to be there in her heart , might as well know how mich i used to love her "
.
"Im the lord of the lake and i don't wanna leave it"
Its his rightful place to be in the heart of his lover , he's not leaving it , 'cause it's his and will always be.
.
"Every eye on the coast evermore will remember the sight of the ghost on the shore"
Meaning,
'If you ever saw my love/girl or land an eye on her , I'll be there as well, cause I'm in her heart that I'll never leave , I'm the ghost who stays in her heart forever"
i always saw it as longing for home-art is amazing because it’s so subjective that each of us can gain something unique from the piece because of our individual experiences
Lord Huron is absolutely amazing and completely under appreciated. What an incredible band thank you for the fire you've stoked in my heart.
I haven't heard a great song like this for a while. It really pulls you in with the serene feeling and the lyrics are amazing.
Love that this song was used for Duffy's memory in wicked tuna. 🎣🎣🎣
I'm hurting, I feel lost, and this music is the only sort of melody that gets through to my heavy heart.
Great music, I have been listening to it alot and have a heavy heart too, what is keeping you down?
Why haven't I found this band sooner? I didn't know I needed their music as much as I do.
Its going to hurt for the real LH fans when they get huge and everyone thinks that they found this amazing group. Love this album, Thanks for posting!
One of my best songs... its just bliss!
an underrated, beautiful bop wow
This song reminds me of laying in our tent on our annual camping trip and listening to the weather forecast on the radio. I don't know why. It just does.
"I'm goin' away for a long time.." - favourite part
This is just pure artistry 🙏🏼❤️
I think of sitting in my field down by the river with the firefly's flying around at twilight.
Had this song on in the background and recognized it from a Free People video I watched. So happy to have found it!
No Words can describe the feeling Lord Hurons music bringing❤️❤️❤️❤️
sincerely I am very happy to know that this song creates the same sense of tranquility and happiness to other people as well as to me, THANKS
This song makes me cry. It's so accepting, so gentle with death. There's such a quiet, beautiful power to it. "I'm goin' away for a long, long time."
This music deserve much more than many other "pop music".
Kenzi Takahashi unfortunately, good music is find when its not mainstreamed nowadays
I wake up and I don’t know what to do I go to school learn and halfway through the day I don’t know what to do then I listen to this song and it helps it opens up my mind to new possibilities that I never knew I love listen to music like this and I hope people never stop making these songs they help my past these hard terrible days. THANK YOU😭
This will always be one of my favorites.
I feel like this music is my escape .
Glad I've come across with such artist
too beautiful for words
[The Ghost on the Shore] is a perfect mix of everything! Calm and creepy, soothing and scary. Well my name IS Eerie.
I too was born on the shore of one of the Great Lakes. While it isn't Lake Huron, it was Lake Superior. I'm now on the west coast but miss it up there.
Didn't think there were still songs left that would make my soul dance... Thank you for this.
My best friend passed away i cant finish this song without tears
Hes going away for a long long time
My favourite Lord Huron song right here.
This brings me back to my favorite camping spot; right beside the lake at sunset, with a small fire casting just enough light to illuminate the very tips of the water as it crests the shore. The smell of smoke, trees, the lake, and earth combining into a wonderful blend for the senses. Happiness.
A Walk in The Woods with Robert Redford and Nick Nolte brought me here, thanks for share!
This song is ultimate zen. Over and over
I started listening to this song probably last year, I recently just came back to it, forgot how beautiful it is, this, ends of the earth and Meet me in the woods are Lord Huron’s best songs imo.
I LOVE THIS SONG IT MAKES ME CRY😭
I grew up on the shores of Lake Huron he's sound reminds me of the cool evenings sitting by a campfire on the shores of Lake Huron.
Lived near Lake Ontario for the last few years. Such a beautiful place and a force of nature.
the anthem for children growing up off the great lakes. Lake michigan has my heart ❤️
