I grew up 20 miles from Baltimore Md.- tucked away in a fading rural area -1/4 mile up my road was my Grandmothers Farm. Many times I rode my bike to the old farm house down a lane, through the woods - just to see Her and my Uncle (a quiet Vietnam Veteran). Often my aunts and uncles and cousins would meet and eat there....They are all gone now...This music sparks these memories...comforting to my mind...painful to the reality of missing them...

What a great coincidence, listening on my bike ride to this for The Yawning Grave, but Frozen Pines tuned in perfectly as I rode by night into an old forest where a cross has been erected among the trees, "nature's shrine".

THESE songs, they're two in one! And much agreed. These songs came out unbeknownst to me during the worst time of my life, a time when I actually did encounter demonic spirits and the paranormal in the woods as a result (listen to "Meet Me In the Woods," the first song I heard, that was basically my encounter). Now I can enjoy them and the fact I'm not in that place anymore.

They're sung from two different characters' perspectives, actually! The Yawning Grave is "traditional", which means it's sung from a sort of narrator perspective, while Frozen Pines is a particular story of a little girl named Danielle. My reading has always been that, since the Yawning Grave is about somebody opening up the underworld to come back from the dead, Frozen Pines is kind of an inverted narrative, a little ghost girl who doesn't realize she's dead at all and is just looking for the friends she left behind.
