  • Season 16, Episode 23: We might be about to see major changes at the ICC, if the man who already has the most power in cricket formally takes over the show. Dan Brettig from The Age brings us up to speed as heavy-duty discussions take place at Lord's. All of that ties into the proposed Champions Trophy schedule, and an amazing homecoming for India's victorious T20 team, even as a new Indian side falls to Zimbabwe. Plus a superb round of county cricket, and the slim hope that cricket's governors will support the exiled Afghanistan women to play the game.

Who destroyed Zimbabwe cricket? And almost destroyed South Africa cricket it was English cricket. Have heard the term Kolpak were many good players were lost and who was the benefeciary of that. I know BCCI is not perfect but they are not solely responsible for what happening in cricket and each board have their own shares in it for current state.

All Indians by now know that the media, journalists, ex players , fans etc who show hate towards BCCI and Indian cricket are mostly from 3 countries, England, Australia n Pakistan.
These people want the money generated by BCCI and Indians to keep cricket active and alive in their country but don’t want any Indian to have influence on world cricket.
Thus , let’s hope Jay Shah goes for the ICC presidency post so that we can see the mega meltdown shown by all the Indian haters . He can easily win an election for the post as every board will support him except from ECB, CA n PCB.
Other boards know that they are surviving only because of money given to them by ICC from the revenue generated by Indians.
If these money stops, they will get zero help from the 3 anti India boards and will be forced to cut down their cricket involvement especially in bilateral series.
I often wonder why all the India haters involved in cricket in England and Aust don’t pressure their board to stop having ties with BCCI and try to control world cricket on their own , don’t have bilateral series with India , don’t give NOC to their players to play in IPL etc? After all since they always spew hatred towards BCCI n India , why don’t demand their boards to cease all ties completely?
I am sure BCCI n Indian cricket will thrive without these boards.

20:13 From India's perspective, bilateral T20Is are for giving opportunities to their young players i.e. testing their bench strength. As there is always a ODI/T20 ICC event around the corner, this helps identifying options available. It is as simple as that.
India have played many series in the past few years against smaller nations like Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Ireland. In fact, for Afghanistan, BCCI have given them a homeground in India with all the facilities for practice.
On the other hand, Australia have declined to play against Afghanistan. Australia and England Cricket seriously need to introspect instead of moral grandstanding.

The imbalance created between boards is not something which propped up with India’s emergence as the top dog but I don’t see you honing in on that as much as you do on this.
Also what exactly is the issue with OUR Prime minster interacting with OUR cricket team? Like how’s that in any way a concern of anyone outside the target audience? How’s that in any way affecting world cricket?
Why this constant meddling into issues which are trivial & it just makes people feel like there’s some agenda at play here.
This meddling into our how stadiums are named, how our board should be run, how prime minister should behave, who are players meet & how long should they interact is just so comically unnecessary.
Hope you start being a bit balanced & let go of these prejudices as they are very clear with the way you talk about BCCI & Indian cricket/politics.

I appreciate your job of reporting on the sport and calling truth to power. However, I urge a little introspection if the first thoughts on a victory parade of the sport you say your job is to report on, is to not highlight the passion that the Indian fan feels for the team, but say that "World cup is an ODI WC, this is more of a World T20". I know Geoff remarked about the passion of the fan and I also support your right to feel anything on anything. I, however, still urge you to see how negative connotations shouldn't be the first thing one says about good things in the sport. I hope you agree that the passion of the Indian fan is a good thing for the sport!

I also feel if one needs to critique the broader politics surrounding the sport, including domestic politics in India (which btw should be called out at times), one should sometimes try to familiarise themselves with socio-political and cultural factors at play as well. As bigoted as the right wing politics in India is made out to be by the West, it stills thrives due to various factors, social, economic and cultural. I do not even support this govt or its Stooges. definitely you should discuss the future of world cricket and for it's betterment but not anti India . I would like to mention few points here don't take it otherwise.
As you know very well that how much indian cricket and bcci contributes to so called world cricket, And regarding spin friendly pitches I must say professional cricketer have to play any pitches around the globe either it's spin or bouncy pitches . Indian players have done it so many times in so many countries. Regarding our prime minister. He has every right to talk to his fellow citizens or athletes. You know very well that how much cricket means to the indians. And same goes to our PM he loves cricket he loves sports so please stop making these kind of hate content that hurts indians. And lastly with due respect choose your guest wisely before inviting them on your show.

What BCCI does for (white ball) cricket: Tour mid countries once every 4 year cycle, send domestic teams to help smaller countries test and develop, arrange continental Asian Cup to ensure rise of new countries like Afghanistan, Nepal and ensure 10 other asian countries keep playing regularly for qualifiers.
What CA and ECB do for (red ball) cricket: Play test series against same 4-5 countries, make press statements about "doing everything to save test cricket" every few months, start talking about next Ashes 4 months after last one and finally blame Jay Shah, BCCI and IPL when test cricket keeps falling.
Funny how naive most test fans are that they won't even ask anyone at CA or ECB about what actual steps have they taken since the last statement they made few months ago.

Hahaha new people hating on this podcast, here is a quote from Adam Collins from last year
"I can assure you if India loses to Australia in WTC final, there will be no WTC after this."
What pulitzer prize worthy journalism reporting the death of WTC.
Just in this podcast, he said t20 cricket is the king in India, no Adam cricket is the king in India, a young nation which is hungry for world recognition, where cricket is the biggest hope, hence the crowd in parade. if you go around and ask people most would still say it has not healed 50 over loss because that is more important but of course you would paint the picture where Australia and England are bigger than celebrations and India is celebrating just a "t20 world cup" or Indians care about t20 because it helps that narrative that India does not care about test cricket.
I have said before Adam's hatred of BCCI has turned into him despising Indian cricket and its fans in general. Not everyone is BCCI or BJP supporter in India, Adam, that does not mean we will not support Indian cricket team.
Now the final word through their reply will question my ability to comprehend what their saying (how arrogant that we cannot comprehend) or they will comment, ''brother problem starts with you"

My Indian folks, once again reiterating that in an open society, critical discussion shouldn't only be allowed but rather encouraged. We all learn something from the different perspectives that goes on wrt any topic. We don't have to agree on everything or necessarily disagree, but the more informed we are, the better perspective it gives us for our thoughts as well.
For our sport to grow, we need active discussions regarding its future whilst simultaneously trying to better the present cricketing ecosystem. It will be what would keep our game relevant and thriving, an active, varied perspectivistic discussion around the health of our game.
Sure, there is a lot of things that are given in situations, we all have our certain biases in any situation but being receptive is good, right?
We all have our heads eventually to follow our hearts, don't we.

There is no point in repeating the sins of the past in a misguided attempt at revenge or retribution because quite frankly we “won” ages ago. By acting the way we are all we’re doing is recycling shitty colonial and supremist behavior that benefits absolutely nobody. The BCCI helping empower lesser boards and countries and grow the game only helps us at the end, hoarding resources and money means that eventually there will be no competition and nobody wants that. I respect your description of bcci and its influence on icc but lets accept the fact what England did during 1960s and australia at 1990s and early 2000s
Now its india time nothing matters but only financial power matters
First tell ECB to upload the highlights of the team india matches by highlighting best moments
There is lots of issues with respect to ECB and CA As well
    Try to rectify them first
Then start talking about indian board
This year England tour of india has shown the bench strength of india and IPL india won t20wc
    Everything going india way
Stop handpicking issues of india rather than speak about important issues rather than bcci
I always see that people at pakistan and England gets moral responsibility after whenever our team india wins something people says that's not fair catch and scheduling issues
Australians looks like they love india and indirect way they always same as english people 😂😂
Our players are performing well and we are getting entertainment
Thats what matters for BCCI indian interests not about xyz problem from other people 👀
They always have their own issues
You guys have to remember something how australian players such as Warner, Cummins, ellyse Perry received love from Indian fans during IPL and wpl
Please try to do assessment fairly
You have to remember something that even you guys handpicking issues with respect to BCCI indian people love for our team never change or with respect to BCCI
They are doing good job how they deal with issues
It's hard for English people to see India's progress which were once colonised by them but that's how financial power works
People like me we watch only sport in south india majority that's cricket
I hope our team will win more icc trophies and match Australian team in WCs
Currently australia is the best whether it is men's team or women's team
Second is our team india men and women's team
This time Australian women's team going to get very surprises in wc at Bangladesh
I love your conversations but please don't only criticize BCCI
Australia lose match against Afghanistan still they are searching for morality we won't play against Afghanistan because they are not allowing women's team to participate
See I don't say it's good that they are not allowing women's team to play but that's subcontinent culture
English people and Americans are always ready to lecture 😂that's sounds funny
Rule breakers are speaking about morality and all these stuff
What kind of sportsmanship to count boundary count to pick England as 2019 wc champion 🏆
It's ridiculous rule how they win that wc final
Stop lecturing us please blah blah blah blah 😂😂

No country is going to share its riches beyond a point for keeping test cricket alive. It can exist in some sort of boutique format for sure but that’s about it. Even if there are a few test series like Ashes, Border Gavaskar that are popular, why would a player prioritize a format that only has very few matches of significance? We should focus on t20 to improve its cricketing aspects while maintaining the fast pace of the format instead of trying to reverse the decline of test cricket.

So does that mean we don't monitor it, or call it out, or commentate on it?

@@FinalWordCricket You can. I already said that in my comment lol but I guess you didn't read that for some reason. If you don't bring eyeballs to a sport, the broadcasters won't give you prime time space. That is a fact. All your talks sound very idealistic. That's not how the world works. Capitalism is the norm here. Broadcasters don't care if smaller nations don't play cricket and broadcasters are the ones who sustain the game by making and distributing money to the boards. ICC cannot afford to do anything about this situation.

@@FinalWordCricket so why don't you comment on the culture of cricket viewership in eng and aus. Why not dedicate an episode to what specific reasons the sport is not growing there instead to bashing india everytime..it's easy slinging mud at others than looking in your own rotten backyard
