- F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed more sprint races will come to the sport, with the potential to extend all the way to 25 races per season. Alex Albon confirms his extension at Williams until at least 2026, taking the option away for Red Bull to bring him back to partner Max Verstappen in the near future.

52 GP and 52 sprints with only 1 engine allowed. Sounds about right.
25 not 52..
If it were up to me? The F1 calender would look like a NASCAR schedule. A Sprint every Saturday and a race every Sunday from Febuary until November except for Mother's Day. I'm a fan. What do I care what it cost the teams, it's not coming out of my pocket. I just wanna see them race as much as possible.
52 Grand Prix a year I don't think that's quite enough have a race on a Monday Wednesday and Sunday every week no brakes or should we just go back to when it was good and it was excited for it to come on and have 20 races a year
You need to go stand in the corner than straight to bed with you, no supper!
@@paulwilson5451 That would be interesting, did you mean 'no brakes' or should it read no breaks - Magnussen drives like that anyway ;)
Domoneycali is really accountable to no one in the sport. That is the problem.
F1 will continue with sprint race format until the time comes when there is an incident, or multiple incidents in a sprint race that takes out a number of cars in a way that severely impacts on Sunday's "main event".
Not sure the Sunday spectators would be that pleased to turn up and find that the top three/four drivers are out because of an incident in Saturday's noddy race.
I really hope this happens at the next Sprint weekend!
For f's sake, the schedule has been increased to 24 races and they want to increase the sprint weekends? Bloody insanity...no regard for the crew members in the least!
F1 Confirms more sprint races than races itself
"Shareholder value" has cause more damage than every war in human history combined.
War is based on shareholder value
Shareholder value as a front running priority is a cancer
Someone who's never been in a war wrote this
I’m guessing you don’t remember when F1 was broke and the teams weren’t worth shit 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@KailamiMwiinga
Exactly 😄
They have to let teams have more engines if they are going to continually increase these sprints. Otherwise it's nonsense.
Verstappen face on the video thumbnail when he heard about more sprint 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Louder ICE's with sustainable fuel sounds like a great idea. Cant wait to see it on paper
Bring V10s back 🔥
No one, including the driver’s, like the sprint races
We fans love it, better yhan a practice
Am I the only one who doesn’t belong to one side or the other? Idk how I feel about it. The original format makes the Sunday feel more exciting/special but I guess more happening on Friday and Saturday is cool too.
@@ChilpancingoRules Speak for yourself, NOT for us "fans". The sprint races have been incredibly unpopular by the majority of fans, up to this point. So, YOU may like it, but it's hardly popular amongst the masses.
@@ShonnDayleei think both opinions should be respected as a fan of the sport, i think we get distracted from the priority that any fan has to dictate an expected standard of sport, regulation , and entertainment they’re looking for ! Accommodating any specific fan base will never provide good overall racing for anyone in my opinion.
Howbouts no more sprint races
How about ZERO every year? Sounds good to me
I have been saying for awhile the sprint races should be raced with reserve drivers or potential F2 move ups within the F1 teams. This would also allow a new trophy category and possibly major shake up in the driver line up in the future.
@user-yf8ch6gw8f
it would be great especially if they were allowed to use the previous year car.
Personally i would love 25 sprint races. Less practice, more problems with setups, more chance for dominant teams to lose out on a weekend. More chances for crashes having an effect on qualy positioning. Last year many of the highlights were from the sprint races.
Stefano Domoneycali killing us with this one 💀😭
No hes not. This is great
@@ChilpancingoRuleshow is having like 10+ sprint races good imo? It’s an opinion but I personally am not a fan of
@@quadrantalerror1121 Do you not like watching racing?
@@jameshoffa7085I do but sprints take away the magic of the actual Grand Prix, you know what’s gonna happen in the Grand Prix.
If they want it to work properly they should make it longer and add like 2 mandatory pit stops
@@ChilpancingoRuleswhat about all the people working for the teams that will get no rest at all with all the races these years
!Hot Take! I think they should only run 10 cars in the sprint and have a reserve drivers be in the car. Points for the constructors only. This would get the reserve drivers time on track and not spoil the GP in any way. Have the teams bring a 3rd car for them on that race. Let those guys show us what they can do. We hear about them on the broadcasts all the time but unless you watched them going though the lower formulas have no clue what they are about
I’m a fan of more sprint races tbh. I think it’s a change that can help push for more competitiveness.
Love your content keep up the good work
F1 should have a practice session set aside on press days every race weekend. Either at the start of the season, or after each sprint race, teams should be able to reclaim one practice session per sprint race. Teams could redeem this practice session at any track of their choice.
Points ? Decided, one constructor point for each car that finishes the race within 180% of the lead time. Drivers points upto 12 place.
There should be NO conflicts of interest in the pinnacle of motor sports. As soon as they introduced the cost cap. Red Bull has been on the clock to sell alpha rosso
All sprint races should be undertaken by the reserve drivers.....make sure you have a good support driver to get some points !
Best plan for F1 resign from Liberty Media, the teams form their own concord agreement and new European organisation
We have had enough of USA politics, national influence and distortion by Andretti to form state owned monopolies.
There'll only be 10 cars on the grid then
But the problem with that is that the reserve drivers often have almost no experience and are probably crashing more often, which would be a huge problem if the reserve driver crashes a car and then the normal driver can't compete in Qualifying.
These reserve drivers would also need aditional practice sessions so you would need to lengthen the weekend or at least completely change the weekend schedule again.
@@andrewbragg504 good idea, Carlos will be soo pleased that there are no other drivers in front of Ferrari to hold him up ! If chaos is the objective with these sprint races, the FIA can only enhance their objectives of providing entertainment at the cost of millions to the teams in repairs.....this is very amusing.
Am I the only one who likes sprints? prefer a reverse grid, but like the extra races no matter how they line up
The move away from hybrids happening when battery tech is finally starting to get significantly lighter is a real solid play 👌
Would love to see NA 2L v12s or whatever paired with lightweight hybrid tech, but as long as the turbos go and the cars become lighter im cool
The Williams car is a damn golf cart, but next year
Great content 👌
I really like your videos I listen to them and they are very insightful and informed me more than other channels do. Sometimes you talk so fast that I miss it though and I have to listen a second and the funny thing is that on the second listen I fall asleep half the time and the sleep is really good and deep. that is all
Thanks for the good reporting. I'm good with more sprint races. I would much rather watch 2 qualifying sessions and 2 races each weekend than 3 practice sessions that mean nothing. The teams should show up to the track with a car that's ready to race, have 1 practice session to fine tune the car for the first qualy and sprint race, and then on to the main event. It makes the weekends much more interesting and levels the playing field a bit more when the teams all only have one practice session. Also, I'm good with more points, maybe to 12 or 15 places, but not for the end of the backfield. It will definitely provide a better system for showing how the bottom 5 teams have performed against each other rather than just having a 2-5 point spread for the back markers. Hope you're having a good time in Indy.
I do not mind the additional sprint races as long as they are within reason to keep the sprint weekends unique. Although the fans like to complain about sprints, they are definitely more entertaining than a regular free practice session, and with the sprint weekends changing each year (to some extent at least) they certainly provide a good opportunity to switch things up and worked wonderfully in tracks that are normally very stale (not so much others). Maybe they should cap them at 8 since we have 24 races now. Definitely shouldn't have every weekend be a sprint weekend though.
Sprint races should determine the driver’s standing and be run with one standard car with exact same engines, parts and setups. This would show case which drivers have the best skill.
The Grand Prix should be for the manufacturers championship with cars being built as they are now. This would allow for innovation a test which teams are best.
Stefano The-Money-Calling
Finally heard about that Merc front wing 😂😂
if they want decent sprint races, they need to make it 50% race distance and a mandatory pitstop
So F1 in 2020 was 17 races no sprint and no cost cap, and now they want 24-25 races and 8 sprints and all that with a cost cap, 3 power unit,2 ERS,4 gear boxes per season, they should talk to the driver first and then the constructor and see if they want it!! a little advise, less race, around 20 (less plane to use to go all around the world mean less pollution,a real V8 ,no battery (big trouble for us in a near future with those battery) raise the cost cap and raise by 1 or 2 the engine part!!
In 2020 a few rounds were skipped because of covid. It was 21 grand prix in 2019 with the same amount of parts. Which is still a lot less than 24 grand prix and 6 sprints
@@irgendeinerandomperson you’re right,I didn’t mentioned Covid,I think that my brain want to forget about it!
As for Newey, if he's looking for a challenge he should go to Andretti 😉 what a wild ride that'd be if they get in for 26
I think they should go the indy route and have 90percent parts provided and let them tune it. Make it cheaper and closer as it mostly comes down to drivers.
Bring back the V10 Engines with sustainable fuel 💪👍
NOT going to happen, mate. It makes no sense to add cylinders (i.e more complicated system), when they could just use the current style V6's with sustainable fuel/hybrid systems. I get it... V10's sound great, but the reality is, the sound is about the only benefit.
@@ShonnDaylee you're probaly right.. A V10 eat alot more fuel, so they probaly wont allow it.. But it would be Nice to see again.. Or just a screaming V6 .. But, lets see in 8 years.. 🥴
As a keen F1 fan for decades. I do watch the sprint races and qualifying. As a spectator it is a more exciting weekend of F1. More races the better, as a spectator’s point of view.
Shareholder value.. ... Lets look at Boeing and shareholder value......
Makes me wonder if that safety car mistake might have been deliberate. You know.. to make the point that sprint arent always the same.
More sprints! 12 sprints would be the target, but engine and cost cap rules must change for sure
If they are going to have more sprint races then the prize money should go up and the cost cap, more races means more accidents and more costs so I hope that F1 is ready to fund all this.
Call of duty content and F1 content on a daily basis! I admire the grind dude!
Sprints in Monaco, Singapore and Hungary yay
Cars look slower now because cars from the 90s were way shorter and not as wide! That makes a huge difference!
The camera perspective are way worse nowadays too. Look at some comparison videos
Only in 1998 did the rules mandate 1800mm width, before that they were 2000mm like the current cars.
How dare you give me hope in that last minute of the video?!
I mean it makes sense to let RB stay, but forbid any more 2nd teams, purely because they bought them out when the team was in trouble and at the time it's not like it was amazingly profitable (like now anyway) to have the 2nd team.
Max, there is basically no question who the fastest car is going to be as it is.
They dont realize that such a flood with F1 content (repeated Max wins) will only make people lose interest in F1. Money machine will turn against them
Sprints should be for only constructors' point and bring F2 drivers for those. Or atleast one driver per team for F2 drivers. Can challenge driver number 2 be on his toes.
Agreed some of the changes have helped the sprint format work better. Prefer regular race weekend, and think 6 is a good number, 8-10 is the limit. Not all tracks make sense for a sprint.
The Stewards should hand out 2 yellow cards or a straight red like football, but instead of a foul it’s a drive through penalty
I like sprints better than practice sessions. I also like watching f1 when the teams and drivers have less data from practice sessions. There was maybe an argument that when the sprint set the grid that we were moving race action to the sprint. Now we get more exciting sessions than practice and better racing who is complaining about this
what are they going to do about the sprint races having no value to the participants. Last year we saw a rookie win a sprint race, and his reaction was, "that was nice"
Apart from being onerous on the drivers and pit teams, the other down-side of too many sprints is that it dilutes the value of points won in the main races.
About RB owning 2 teams, if RB cashapp was 3rd and 4th every race I could see the conflict. But, since they are still way behind then I don't think they are sharing to much.
Short term profits, lets go!
Thumbnail is outrageous. Gave me a heart attack, no way we’ll have 24 right? RIGHT?! 😂
The idea of the drive through penalty is a solid one. I think there is an issue, as well, when considering objectivity and impartiality. Magnussen has definitely deserved license “points”, and a drive through penalty or two may have been a more appropriate response. Consider also, for example, in Jeddah when there was the slightest contact between Magnussen and Albon. Neither car crashed, sustained any damage effecting race pace, position, or long term performance. Albon had even referred to it as a racing incident. And yet Magnussen picked up three more points on his “bad boy” license tally. This was not the only incident. I guess the question needs to be asked. Is this a solution or a further complication when impartiality, justice, and fairness, seem unique terms unto themselves that often seem never to converge. Should racing become so valiant and chivalrous as to become sanctimonious and soulless? Certainly it should be worth consideration. It would be a tragedy to lose characters like Magnussen, Raikkonen, Alonso, Senna, Schumacher, Piquet, etc., etc. I have been a F1 fan since I first recall watching with my older brother in 1977-‘78. I was even fortunate enough to work very peripherally(and briefly) with a vendor back in the early-ish 1990’s. From my own perspective and experience, even though some aspects of F1 are better, unfortunately it has also lost a sizeable chunk of its character, or “soul”. I can only hope that the powers that be will realize this before we end up with a thoroughly neutered, “European” version of Indycar.
The Red Bull and now RB been going on for some time and want to do something now but look at the difference between the two
Sprint race would be perfect at brands hatch,as it was at Miami, Monaco should have one, because the full race is ,less exciting and bring back that extra days to have the race on that day
with sprints are lower teams going to try harder on a sprint vs main race in hopes of getting a few points? and vice versa..? tires are a problem. I don't think, FIA, can come up with a strategy that all teams will fight hard on sprint and main race. not enough tires, mid leve teams might hold back tires or effort in sprint to work better in main race as well....
Love to see Adrian at Williams. That would be very interesting.
Stefano Domenicali was a likable person now he is becoming like the New Bernie (Money first).
Bernie made F1 great. Copying anything Bernie did is very wise.
Sprint races should have a points based weight penalty. The more season points you have the heavier the car you have to race in the sprint...
Max will need Land Rover suspension then?
What if they added a sprint champion as well?
Sprint races make good radio, better than free practice.
Sprint races are a W for viewers in all honesty, before they were atrocious but since they separated race qualifying from the sprints now they’re acceptable and the very few we have makes them meaningless, but the more we get the more important they become.
there are 52 weeks in a year and almost half that number of races so with the summer and winter breaks that's more than a race every 2nd weekend. there are probably to many races.
The sprints have been good this year, so bring it on.
It just better then a fp- session.
Has anyone seen the sprints in MotoGp? They are terrific and every gp has one.
Lets go.
Yall are hating… the 2 sprints we’ve had so far were fun!
I'm a fan of sprints in its current form it's much better then watching fp2
Mercedes should have considered Albon, though it may not have pleased Williams at a time they want Williams to train up Antonelli.
I like the Sprint races now. Previous seasons not so much. I think 1/3 would be fine.
Bridgestone for sprints and we solve the problem
Sprints are much better than a free practice. You guys have no idea what you are saying. I understand drivers not liking it because is more work , but for fans these are great news!
I agree. (I also like the idea of all drivers getting points for finishing each race).
The Williams is actually better than last year however all the bottom teams have made a bigger step forward especially HAAS and RB
If so many drivers don't like sprints ... I hope drivers start refusing to drive .. ridiculous
Im down with a sprint race at every round. Motogp has done it and its way more exciting to watch. 2 races to watch better that free practice
I like sprints but more engines are needed
Sprint races risks too much for to little!
Make the Reserve and Prospect Drivers do the Sprint racers instead of the drivers instead of doing Q1 Practice Sessions.
In an ideal world, we would have ALL teams owned by the same organization...
$tefano DoMoneycali - Overtaxing sporting participants on all levels, lower remuneration because of the cost cap, excessive suboptimized travel and relentless trend to general over exposure will only work to drive revenue for so long and then all aspects of the enterprise decline from lover quality and over saturation
At this point Merc could stop developing and focus on the engine and 2026 regs 😂😂😂
The organization is not listening at all. The drivers keep saying it is not a problem for them but the mechanics and staff are already on the limit. Doesn’t the organization care about health issues? If they say then get more people then what about the cap. Next to this the drivers don’t want shifting teams. They want consistency. Weird decision from the organization if they force this only to get more money.
With Wolf’s drama at Mercedes there is no way Newey will go there, Newey comes across as someone who is all in it for the love it! He is set for life does care about money he is still working because he is passionate about what he does not all in this sport are here for the same reasons!
Adding more Sprint races robs the teams from really testing their upgrades. When they bring new parts, they need the free practice sessions to try the new parts. The FIA is just really ignorant to what the fans want.
Didnt Max threaten to quit if more races were added, i see this as a positive step...
Sprints suck! It’s too confusing what is happening. Nobody cares about the sprint. It’s just diluting the sport.
Agreed!. I never even watch the sprints as in my opinion the are not THE RACE, which is what matters.
Domenicali is just doing everything he can for the money not for the actual benefit of the racing.
I hate click bate man!
Are mclaren bringing upgrades to imola?
Yes. Zak lost 2 kilograms after Miami.😁😁
The grasp for more money by F1. Teams will need more crew, because I see also more race weekends, don't believe they will stop at 25. Drive thru & stop and go should come back, within 3 laps of offence. Two team ownership is not good, as they have in the past held of competitive drivers to the main team, while letting main team drivers past.
Well, all teams need more than 4 engines. If it is all 24 races around 7, it is needed, plus Monaco won't be good for a sprint race as it is the most boring race plus overtaking is impossible and that the main race...
Albon predicting the return of the Williams heydays (Vowles --> Toto). At this rate, Williams will be on par with Williams at the start of 2026, because Mercedes understand fuckall about ground effect.
6 sprints is more then enough or maybe even less but increasing the number of sprints is too much on the drivers and teams. plenty of drivers arent in favour of these anyway
I think MotoGP is succeeding in-spite of sprints and not because of them, most fans and riders were and still are against them.
F1 changing for the worst
Yeah bully k mag but don’t give Lewis any penalties for smashing into 300 cars every race 😂😂😂😂
They are totally guessing at this point 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I reckon 12
