Nice set up. We use the President Randy hand held and the New Virginia antenna in my wife’s car. Super easy to set up and very good performance also. The radio lasts all day and can plug in to the car to charge if needed.
I shot a video using the Randy II FCC and the new Virginia, great setup and small enough to be left in the vehicle for an emergency setup as well. That video comes next. Thanks for watching. Cheers
I’ve ran a few of those antennas over the years in a similar setup , I like them . My buddy always called then hybrid antennas for some reason , he sold them at his shop . Great performance for the money, then about 10 years ago the price doubled 😬.. I haven’t priced one in years , but I’d like to have another as a backup . I still have mine I ran for years on my patrol car
Do note, magnet mount should only be temporary. If left on long (which you can do if you like) they will damage paint. Both by uneven sun fading (after a year they will leave a darker circle as the rest of the paint fades a bit), and trapping sand under the magnet which will scratch paint when removing the antenna. Be advised.
The radio is grounded once the cigarette lighter adapter is plugged in, correct? If you ran power to fuse box instead, you''d need to attach radio ground wire to a metal screw or nut, correct?
Hello and thanks a lot for this video. The antenna cable is pinched on the door, is that a problem ? What level of "radio noise" is the cigarette lighter alimentation going to make, versus a battery alimentation directly ?
I route the coax to a corner of the door jam, usually never have an issue with pinched coax. I run a 100w radio in this car at times so I have a 8ga wire hooked direct to the battery (fused) . the noise using cig VS batt is the same. Problem with this car is fuel injector noise. PIA at times, some radios filter it out pretty good, hammy ham radios are the worst performers noise wise. Great question !!! Cheers
SWR of 1.7 all 40 channels. Not perfect but just fine for this application. BTW... In a test I did from my base station to her vehicle, we had a cross town conversations at a distance of 14 + miles. Thanks for watching.
Curious how well those magnetic mounts hold up driving down the road. I assume they'd have to be find or no one would buy them but still makes me a bit nervous.
I try to rout my coax in and around a curve, like the B pillar and roof. We don't want to pinch coax as when coax is pinched it can change the impedance as well as any physical damage.
That Pro-Am CB antenna is based on an old line of MFJ HF antennas that haven't been made in about 10 years because they were crappy at best. I do hope that you check the VSWR every time that you install and uninstall that system in a vehicle as it will change even when used in the same vehicle.
I have been selling and using these antennas for many years (since mid 90s) and had only two fail. One was a customers and one was mine on our old shop truck. Thanks for watching.
SWR preset at 1.4 (ch 20) and no pinch happens when routing coax through a corner, bigger gap between door and B-pillar. Hatchbacks as well.......... Thanks for watching.
So no swr check just pinch coax in the door great advice
I was hoping there would be some cable management I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to run the antenna wire with the weather stripping
Yeah, this is pretty useless. Video should be called " turning on a cb radio in you car"
Pre set
@@wayofthesamurai90your channel is pretty addictive
Extremely helpful exactly what we need simple, Direct thank you

@@breakerbroke23 is the Wilson 1000 as good as that antenna u got? Thanks
@@billythekid5196 Yes the Wilson is as good if not just a bit better..
Slick . Not your grandparents emergency Cb . This setup works . Side note : When you turned up the AF , it was as if on cue. 💣🙉
Great quick and easy bare minimum installation.

I like talking to truck drivers on the CB radio to keep them company
nice CB radio on a budget
You can get 10 miles if you do it right. You have to calibrate the cb radio. You have to check the power and the SWR reading and adjust.
Nice setup.......
Nice cameo by Kim! 👍

correct. If you want to "hardwire" the cord instead using the cigarette lighter adapter.
always check swr before running the radio. you can get cheap meters on the net tomake sure you dont burn a final

@@breakerbroke23 thank you for your answer i'll try to do this with my President Teddy II !
I don't use it any moore but I still have two unites from the 80
what the SWR at, or was that jest so you could RX with it

Someone , please make a single and double cup holder cb radio mount .
Lido Mount might be an option for a radio this size www.lidoradio.com/
Sweet!
If I'm also using a pa speaker, is the cigarette lighter enough? I think I'm using an 8ohm speaker.
Is the magnet mount secured when travelling and does it cause interference?
Yes the mag mount was sturdy up to speeds of 85mph.
Did you check your SWR and tune your antenna?
The SWRs were a 1:4 out the box. This video was intended for the first time user and wanted to keep it ultra simple.
Curious how well those magnetic mounts hold up driving down the road. I assume they'd have to be find or no one would buy them but still makes me a bit nervous.
They hold up fine. In certain areas our speed limit is 80MPH. No problems at that speed.
Will installing a cb radio into a very new car affect the car battery at all or any other things in the car?
In my experience no. I have however seen noise from the new vehicles get into the radio.
Need to check/ set SWR…….?!
breakerbroke23~ outstanding upload.
How does this antenna compair to the Wilson 1000 or 5000?
The wilsons are much better. Take it one step further and get the 5000. It has slightly better receive. I have done A&B comp.
Run coax thru trunk
Did you have to tune in the antenna? (SWR meter)
I checked the SWR and it was 1.5 on ch 20 out the box. That is just fine for temporary use, the idea for this video was to keep it simple.
And it's okay to close the door on the wire?
I try to rout my coax in and around a curve, like the B pillar and roof. We don't want to pinch coax as when coax is pinched it can change the impedance as well as any physical damage.
Anyone on these relics ?
Aerial not SWR to radio so the range performance will be poor, if the SWR is really bad then the radio will be damaged pretty soon.
Unfortunately, there was no installation done, but hey, not click bait either😅
Oof. Magnetic mounts ruin the paint on your car roof.
Check your SWRs or you'll burn the thing up
This is more of a wire up connection and not a installation!

U didn't swr the radio ur blow up radio
Don't run coax like that
Why?
easy set up a lot better with a ranger radio president radios, not worth spending one dollar on junk!!!!!!!!
